Loan name different than title/registration/insurance name Posted: 04 Dec 2017 03:42 AM PST I have a question I'm really hoping you guys can help me with. First of this is in NC so if possible please consider the states particular laws. I have gotten a loan for a car in my name but I do not have a license. The plan is my mother has a car that needs a $1,100 clutch put in it and she's on disability and cannot afford it at all. I want to buy this car for myself but do not have a license right now. I would like to have this car for my mom to drive while I can come up with the money to have a clutch put in her car as well as workout getting my license back this will take at least two years which is what the loan is for. I'm wondering if I can put the title in her name even though the loan is in my name and her pay the insurance and put the insurance in her name since she will be the only person driving it for the next two years. I understand there's potential fraud if I were to be driving the car all the time or whatever and do not plan on it at all. I don't have the best credit and could not acquire a personal loan to just put a clutch in her car and figured this would work out best for us both in the long run. Do I have to add her as a second owner on the title? Can I not have the title in my name and insurance and registration in hers? Please help as I didn't expect the rules to be quite so complicated and I already have the loan and car. [link] [comments] |
Found out my insurance doesn’t cover self-inflicted injury, what now? Posted: 04 Dec 2017 12:14 AM PST I moved to the United States from Canada and have student health insurance with a Canadian insurance company. I ended up in the ICU due to a self inflicted injury. I have diagnosed depression and anxiety. This might be stupid but I didn't read my policy (I'm on my parents insurance, they pay for it and completed the forms). Regardless in the midst of mental illness some actions are uncontrollable. In the policy it says that it will not cover self inflicted harm or overdoses of any kind. Is there anything I can do to fight this? And if not, what am I supposed to do about my hospital bill? [link] [comments] |
Car Collision - A Hit & Run that didn't happen Posted: 03 Dec 2017 11:51 PM PST So around 9pm I was driving on my street to get home while all of a sudden this guy pulls out his driveway, head out, and slams right into my car. He starts backing up then he actually BOLTS out. I didn't get his license plate # so I asked my friend who was the passenger to pull out his phone and take a picture. I try and chase him (for the license plate, not to confront) but he eventually turns off his lights and speeds away. I called the police and headed back to the place of incident. FORTUNATELY, the neighboring people come out and say that he lives there and has a tendency to drive drunk. The guy comes back and denies running away and says to not call the cops and he'll pay out of pocket. I refused. Police show up and did absolutely NOTHING. They didn't file a police report either. I did get the guy's license, car registration, and car insurance. I was originally going to go through my insurance (Geico) as I have full coverage, but after learning that I have to pay out of pocket first, I decided to go through the guy's insurance. However, now that I look at his insurance company (Access), a lot of people say the company is complete shit and basically ignore you or dismiss your claim. I'm still going to call in the morning when they're open. I don't want to be ignored. What is the best steps to go about this? Is there anything I can do to improve my chances? This is California if it makes a difference. [link] [comments] |
Pet Insurance: Says teeth surgery was preventative and won't honour full claim amount (Australia) Posted: 03 Dec 2017 09:40 PM PST My dog went to the Vet and he said that she had some cracked rear teeth that look like it would need to be removed due to periodontal disease. During the procedure and through x-rays they saw that the teeth could be retained with antibiotic treatment. My initial claim was refused as they deemed it 'preventative' surgery. I asked my Vet to write a letter again basically saying it wasn't preventative but necessary to treat infection (periodontal disease). I requested a review of decision and they agreed to pay $200 of the $700 claim that covered x-rays and half the anaesthesia. Is it worth pursuing this further as I really dont see how they can continue to claim it was 'preventative' treatment? This is in NSW in Australia [link] [comments] |
Hit deer collision, any help with my first claim? Posted: 03 Dec 2017 08:08 PM PST Hello everyone I am 21 and just today I was in a collision with a deer, on a 2016 Malibu, the front drivers side fender, radiator, bumper, light, is damaged, the car still runs and drives. Im just seeking for advice or help from people with experience in this, the insurance told me they would cover $50 per day for car rental and anything over would be coming out of my pocket another agent told me it would all be covered since it was a comprehensive coverage claim and I was not at fault. being 21 Enterprise charges around 90 per day with all the fees and everything included, would the insurance cover the whole cost? Also they told me any money left over could be sent to my bank account, thats something I did not understand... how would there be money left over ? The wrecker recommended me to a nearby body shop that he refers everyone too, I know sometimes cars aren't repaired properly after a collision repair. any tips on not getting screwed over with a problematic car later on? Thanks everyone [link] [comments] |
Car Insurance - Slight variation in vehicle title on policy? Posted: 03 Dec 2017 07:46 PM PST Hey guys, Just purchased a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata as a weekend toy. I just switched insurance carriers to Progressive since they were a good bit cheaper, but after purchasing the policy, i noticed that even after entering the VIN for the miata, it only shows up as a "Mazda Miata", not a "Mazdaspeed Miata". Since there are differences between the two, namely the mazdaspeed being a bit more performance-oriented, i find this odd. Most other insurers note the difference between the mazda and mazdaspeed miatas. I did my due diligence and entered the vin for the car when completing the policy online, but am a little worried this may cause an issue down the road. Is this something I should call them and ask about? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Disputed fault car collision: claim or not? Posted: 03 Dec 2017 07:23 PM PST About a month ago another driver attempted to make a left turn in front of me and failed. I filed a claim with my insurance - she was deemed 100% responsible for the collision. There was some minor damage to the front right corner of my leased car (bumper is deeply scuffed and requires replacement). I have not yet had a chance to have the repair work done. Last Thursday an extremely aggressive driver attempted to merge into a bumper to bumper lane of traffic right in front of me (I'm stopped in said lane). Her right rear corner hit the left front corner of my car. We exchanged insurance information during which time the other driver insisted that I was completely at fault. I managed to get the name and phone number for the person behind me, but she claimed "I didn't see anything". Fine. So, what to do? I think that most of the damage will be repaired by the bumper replacement that I have coming anyway. I'm sure that the other driver is going to do her best to avoid fault. Do I make a claim? Should I just call my insurance and make a statement? At this point I'm concerned about my 10+ of perfect driving record being obliterated by two collisions in a short time. [link] [comments] |

Insurance for a car that's registered to someone else in a different state Posted: 03 Dec 2017 06:41 PM PST Here's the scenario. I live in NY, my brother lives in NJ. He has a car that is registered under his name but there's no insurance on the car. It's just sitting in his property. He doesn't want to add it to his current car insurance policy. Am I able to get insurance on the car without having to reregister it so I (alone) can drive it around? Would non owner's insurance be a good option for such a scenario? [link] [comments] |
Orthodontia Coverage Availability Posted: 03 Dec 2017 11:19 AM PST I am going to get braces in 2018 and want to understand how I can find/obtain dental insurance coverage that includes orthodontia. I live in IL, and am currently browsing the health insurance marketplace. None of the dental plans appear to offer orthodontia coverage. What other options do I have? Any advice is appreciated. Worth submitting a Diminished Value Claim? (CO) Posted: 03 Dec 2017 03:07 PM PST I drive a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with ~160k miles on it. I was hit earlier this year by a bozo who didn't understand how turning lanes work. His insurance accepted full responsibility, paid for the repair and my rental, etc. My question is now whether it's worth my time to submit a DVC? I know my car is on the old side, so I don't want to spend hours on this if it'll be a check for $50. Thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Buying a used car, do I have to get full coverage? Posted: 03 Dec 2017 02:25 PM PST I work at the dealership I'm buying the car from. Mom says i will have to put full coverage on it. Is this true? Do I have to or is there a loophole I could use? Tl;Dr: Don't want to pay for full coverage on a used car. [link] [comments] |
Am I being screwed? (USAA Auto) Posted: 03 Dec 2017 01:00 PM PST Hello, I live in Michigan (no-fault state) and have government medical insurance. Car is a 2011 Kia Forte Koup (9k miles driven average per year). I have 1 speeding ticket (10 over). I pay $210 per month on $1000 deductible plus standard collision with the absolute worse coverage allowed (lowest limits to obtain coverage, or declining certain coverages). It originally was $280, but after this month 2 tickets dropped on my policy plus I called them and complained that my credit vastly improved (went from 600 to over 720 for all 3 credit scores) and all I got off was $90 for my 6 month policy that activates in January (will be $210 per month starting in January) I have 1 ticket (speeding) on record that drops off next policy. I have over a 720 for my credit score. Feeling my quote was too high, I did another quote on USAA and it came out to $150 per month for average coverage (what most people take out) for someone with my car, in my state, with 1 ticket, and my credit score. Is there anything I'm missing as to why my quote is so high that maybe I can call USAA and see if I can get discounted? I would be fine with paying $210 if it was for average level coverage. Right now if I get hit I'm likely screwed. I've called around and I've been quoted like $300 from other insurance co's but that would be for average coverage, so USAA is definitely still cheap or cheapest. I just don't feel like I'm getting a great deal with USAA, mildly feels like they're purposely screwing me over. Sorry if this comes off like I'm trying to gouge USAA, I'm not and fully accept responsibility of my ticket and the costs I have to bear because of it. It's just annoying that the online quote doesn't match what I'm paying and it just feels like I'm being picked on. Thank you for any help, hope your weekend is going well :) [link] [comments] |
Bodily liability and car rentas Posted: 03 Dec 2017 11:01 AM PST So, I'm a bit unclear on what most people use for bodily liability coverage while renting cars overseas. (I'm based in the USA). I understand that the rental agencies have coverage and waivers for the vehicle itself, but what if I hit someone and incurred a $100,000 surgery? What kind of insurance do people carry to protect against this, or is it actually built into rental agreements? (Which I couldnt find) Additionally: - would an umbrella insurance policy cover international rentals like this? - any other recommended steps? I'm traveling through south africa for what it's worth. Country Insurance VS Horace Mann Posted: 03 Dec 2017 08:51 AM PST Currently have Country Insurance for 2 cars and home and live in Midwest USA. Never had any claims, so I can't rate their customer service. Annual Premiums are rising each year, even as our cars are older. No tickets on either car. Got a quote from Horace Mann and it is $340 cheaper per year (total for all 3 policies). [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Dec 2017 08:41 AM PST I hit an ice patch and smacked my back wheel against the curb. I took it to firestone and it says it'd cost me about 3000 dollars to fix. I have a Pontiac g6 2009, with 150,000 miles on it. Is it worth filing a claim? If so how much of an increase can I expect in my rates? I'm also 21 years old if that plays a factor [link] [comments] |
