Is my insurance coverage considered good, fair, or poor?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:19 PM PST

Im in Texas insured through Progressive, been with them 3-5 years and drive a 2013 Nissan Murano. My current coverage is the following: Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability $30,055 each person| $60,055 each accident| $20,055 each accident

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Bodily Injury: $30,055 each person| $60,055 each accident

    Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Property Damage $25,055 each accident| $250 deductible

    Medical Payments: No Coverage

Personal Injury Protection: $2,525 each person/each accident

As far as the vehicle goes I have $995 comprehensive deductible, collision $995 deductible as well.

Is this considered good coverage to have? Should I make any changes?

Got a letter from auto insurance saying they're dropping me next month. Do I have recourse?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:23 PM PST

I'm in Georgia. The letter says the reason is because of my driving record, which is admittedly a bit spotty but not terribly bad.

I have never heard of this happening, especially since the most recent incident is nearly a year old. The insurance is through USAA, which is even more surprising. This seems fucked up to do right before the holidays and without prior notice.

    Third party claim

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 02:05 AM PST

If my solicitor claims back money from the insurance company of the person that him me instead of going through my insurance company does this count as a claim. Even if it's not my insurance company.

Need help with UK Car Insurance.

    Posted: 06 Dec 2017 01:16 AM PST

I'm looking at some car insurance for my girlfriend. I want to add myself onto the quote to bring the prices down.

Now my question is: we have been together for about a year, she is classed as my partner, but we are not living together. Can she add me onto the insurance? The quote doesn't ask where we live so I'm really unsure.

What could be prolonging my car accident claim?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 04:57 PM PST

I was involved in a rear-end "crash" in March and immediately opened a claim. I immediately changed lanes, braked due to traffic, and was rear ended. I wasn't quite sure what to do at the time as this was my first accident and it was seemingly a hit-and-run as the person kept driving and didn't stop.

Eventually, Allstate received information from the other party, claiming the other party also filed a claim a few days later. The liability was set to 50/50, which I thought was justified, and the last update on the claim was on March 23, 2017. The claim has remained open since and I'm kinda worried something is up.

My deductible is set to $1000 and it says my payment responsibility is $1000. I have given them photos showing the scratches (Yes, scratches. Not dents, not cracks - scratches) left by the impact, and there's no way that the damage on their car correlates with the payment I'm responsible for.

I've been contacting my claims adjuster and I haven't been able to get ahold of her this past week.

    I'm located in California.

What caused my health provider's coverage to decrease my employer's yearly HSA contribution in half?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 03:47 PM PST

I'm with a private insurer in the Southeast and for the past few years, our employer has been making Health Savings Account contributions that total $1,000 annually. Which comes out to be $83 and some change per month. Recently starting next year, the contributions from them will only be half that. What gives?

Also, the premium increased over 50%, as well.

Will my parents insurance go up for an accident that happened when I was on their insurance even though I no longer am?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 01:31 PM PST

The gist is, I hit a guardrail. It was never reported to the car insurance company (Nationwide) as the damage to the car was minimal. The state, however, (NC) is now charging me for Guardrail repairs. I have since got a new car, and switched to my own insurance. Will nationwide cover this expense? and will my parents insurance go up if they do?

    thanks

Aetna says they cannot discuss medical details with me over the phone due to HIPAA. Is this true?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 11:25 AM PST

If you know of a better place to post this, please let me know.

I was denied Long Term Disability Insurance due to a minor mental health issue which has no impact on my employability. I am trying to go through the appeal process, but am not getting anywhere with submitting a letter. I want to actually talk to the person responsible for my case.

However, they refuse to discuss anything over the phone, claiming that discussing any medical details violates HIPAA unless the communication is in writing. I have friends who are medical professionals and say that they don't think this is true. "The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act does not state that you cannot share information over the phone regarding your health if you as the patient agree to disclose the information."

Can anybody else comment on this or give me an authority to cite? I just want to talk to the people responsible for deciding whether or not to grant me coverage. Thanks.

Is it better to stay with an insurance company or keep switching?

    Auto insurance.

I have Progressive Auto insurance and I read that it's better to stay with 1 Company rather than move around for better rates. Is it better to stay with an insurance company or keep switching for better rates. If other insurance companies sees that i've moved around a lot, will it affect me?

    Condo Water Damage Liability

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:04 PM PST

    We live in Tennessee.

Recently, a busted pipe in our condo (no negligence on our parts) caused water damage to two units below us.

As I understand things, our insurance will almost certainly reject our liability claim, since we technically weren't negligent. However, the Bylaws for our HOA specifically state that, in situations such as this, we are responsible.

So which one typically wins out here? Bylaws say we're responsible... our insurance agent says we aren't.

    Insurance jobs

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 07:37 AM PST

How much do insurance salesmen make? I've heard they make over 100k and others make nothing. Its a commission based job but are the pay outs good? Is it just people that want more workers that tell people they can make that much? Combined has a crazy commission base but I'm guessing their products are hard to sell? They have so many poor reviews online. Some insight would be appreciated. If i don't work for them then i have another 2 years of accounting.

Car considered totaled; don't agree with ACV

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 10:04 AM PST

Someone backed into my parked car and admitted to it, so now I am dealing with their insurance company. The damages are more than the cost of the car so it's considered totaled. The car is an older car, but I have collectors plates and try to keep it in good condition. There are not a lot of this particular car for sale in the area, but I know a lot about them and found many craigslist ads backing up what I think it could have actually sold for before damages. They don't care.

The insurance company hired an separate appraisal company to look at my car and come up with a value, which is basically NADA value. They also apparently called a couple local dealers and asked them what they'd pay - I think that is unrealistic because who sells their ~25yr old collector car to a dealer?

The insurance company won't budge on this amount and have already sent me a check without warning, despite me not agreeing or asking for one yet. Is it possible to still argue for the amount I want? I think my car is worth ~$2200 but they're only saying it's worth ~$1500.

Parked car hit and run - file a claim?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 09:52 AM PST

I have geico auto insurance. Yesterday while parked outside my office building someone hit my car, leaving a dent/paint marks. I was parked in the fire lane with my flashers on, unloading some heavy materials. I didn't see the accident; the dent was just there when I came out. I filed a police report with campus police (I was on a university campus).

Will my insurance premium go up for filing the claim? I've had the policy for 2 years, never filed a claim, clean driving record.

Other guy's insurance company decided not to cover him because he bought the policy after the accident

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 08:42 AM PST

What are my options? My car was ruled totaled by my insurance company, and they already issued me a check. We purchased a new car and moved on, so this news essentially means we're out the $500 deductible.

Will my insurance company go after the guy? I'm assuming hiring a lawyer wouldn't be worth it as the cost would outweigh whatever money I get back.

Is asking to renew an existing prescription during an annual physical considered a separate charge?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 02:39 PM PST

I asked my doctor to renew my existing allergy medicine prescription during my annual physical. He went and grabbed his attending physician at the end of the visit who asked me the same questions that my doctor already asked me about the allergy medication. Now it is showing up as a separate $300 charge for the attending physician. Is this improper medical billing?

Not at Fault Accident, Afraid They Will Total My Car

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 06:08 PM PST

    Hello,

On 11/14/17 I was involved in an accident. In short, I was at a red light and the driver in front of me decided to back over my car.

I drive a 2000 Mazda Miata, the other driver in a newer Dodge Ram pickup.

The other driver was insured and admitted fault to the police, his insurance company accepted liability.

Today, I took my car to their recommended body shop and was given an estimate of $2,700 and was told it was "over the limit". I am to expect a call from the insurance company.

My car has full service records, less than 80k miles, and was in excellent shape before the accident with no prior accidents.

I've looked around locally and while rare, cars with similar mileage, in similar condition, and options are listed for 6-8k.

I also looked at NADA retail and KBB retail. NADA is $4,550 and KBB is $3,530-$5,099.

I have a bad feeling I am going to come out on the short end of this deal.

What are my options here? Is there any reason they can't just cut me a check for the cost of repairs without totaling my car? It seems like that would be more cost effective for them.

    Thank you in advance, Sly

Agents, marketing advice for new insurance agent?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 05:46 PM PST

Hey all, tomorrow I'm interviewing w/ an insurance company that is expanding their market into my state. I'd be one of the first agents in the state and, obviously, the public is not familiar with this company yet.

What are some ways, other than family/friends/acquaintances, networking and referrals, to sell policies when first starting out? I'd like to get a good, fast start to building my book, but I'm not the type to plaster my face on billboards and bus benches.

    Thanks in advance :D

Small fender bender - Should I file a claim with my Car Insurance? First time accident.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 05:00 PM PST

A few days ago I bumped a car in front of me, it caused a small hole in their rear bumper. I gave the person a picture of my license, insurance, and my phone number. We tentatively agreed to deal with this outside of insurance, and confirmed this intent later after he acquires a quote for the cost of the damages.

I haven't ever dealt with this before. My mom was of the opinion this is the correct course of action and told me my monthly rate would go up if I filed even for a small accident. But some articles I read online seem to be of the opinion that this is a bad idea.

    So, questions.

    1. If I don't file a claim, or some kind of incident report with police, am I at risk of this guy taking my money, and then going to my insurance company and asking for more?

    2. If I file a claim, how do I know if my rate will go up? Can I call and ask without filing? Can I notify them of the incident and not file a claim?

    3. Just curious, but I have been scammed before so I'm a little wary. The guy says he works for a car dealership and can get a cheaper fix, does that sound like a red flag?

If it matters, I'm 26, I've never filed a claim before, I have had one red light traffic violation years ago.

Accidentally was placed on Medicaid. What should I do now?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 12:56 PM PST

Let me preface this with that I'm a fucking moron and I feel awful. I just discovered I was accidentally placed on Medicaid.

My story goes back to last year. I procrastinated and filled out my application for my states ACA marketplace on the very last day. I filled out the form and when it came time to enter in my financial information, I entered in that I made 950+ biweekly. Or at least I thought that's what I entered. I signed up for a plan immediately.

Two months later, I went to the Dr and they couldn't accept me as a patient because I had a secondary insurance that was conflicting with my primary. I had no clue what they were talking about until I did some research. Turns out I was placed on Medicaid. I knew I didn't make a ton (about $25000 a year), but I didn't think I made so little as to qualify for Medicaid, but I figured since the state put me on Medicaid, I qualified. I canceled my other plan and stuck with the MA.

Fast forward to now. While filling out my application this year, I notice a glaring error on my application when it auto-filled my financial data. It said I made 950+ MONTHLY. I don't know how this happened. Now it makes sense why I qualified for Medicaid. I don't know how this happened. I'm freaking out. I didn't mean to do this. I don't know what to do.

Any advice on what to do or what's going to happen? I didn't mean to have this happen. And I'm fucking pissed it did.

(CT) First accident and my claim got denied?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 04:21 PM PST

Hello, I'm new to reddit so hopefully I'm posting this correctly. I recently gotten into an accident literally right in front of my apartment. I haven't driven much except the same exact path from my home to my university. There were 3 lanes and I was in the middle lane (this is also on the police report filed..) and I was just paying attention to my own lane doing my own thing, I was also planning on staying in my own lane (not switching or anything.) There was a car double parked behind a Usps truck and it could've gone around the truck way before I reached close to it. However it didn't. That driver decided to merge into my car which caused a dent under my gas tank (near my brake lights) and it was scratched up. I was driving at a normal speed and I want to note that there wasn't any traffic (20 MPH). However it was raining and dark, so i'm not sure if he checked his blind spot before doing so. Their front passenger side (right side front of the car) was damaged. They never sent me a email or a proper letter stating why my claim was denied (assuming that it reached the 30-40 day limit for a claim). I was left a lousy voice mail regarding my claim stating that it was denied because of the point of impact and both our statements. I'm extremely confused because I want to dispute this matter, I feel like the point of impact would support my statement rather his, however like all car accidents what he claimed contradicts what happened and what I claimed happened. The total of damaged was around $2.5k, and his insurance is AMICA while I have Liberty Mutual. I know theres a huge difference between both companies, do I have a winning chance if i try to dispute this denied claim? I just want to note that there weren't any witnesses or cameras at the intersection lights. Also their insurance claimed it wasn't their driver at fault. I'm wondering if I would be able to get reimbursed for the damages (around 2k) and have my company go through the dispute process to get reimbursed? I'm not sure how it all works (first accident), any advice is helpful. Also i was wondering if someone files a claim against me would I be notified?

[CA] Motorcycle accident with Bodily Injury vs vehicle. Not at Fault. Do I pursue myself or get an Attorney?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2017 02:21 PM PST

I was involved in a vehicle vs motorcycle accident In California. I was traveling down a main street at about 30-35mph when another car turned right in front of me causing the bike to collide perpendicular with the side of the vehicle.

I laid on the ground until emergency services arrived about 45 minutes later. I was taken by ambulance to a local hospital where I was given an emergency "reduction" operation for several breaks in my left wrist/hand. I was also given a brace for minor fracture in my right hand. A firetruck blocked the road while a police officer had my bike towed and handled an exchange of information with the other party.

I had the motorcycle out of the tow yard the next day. My insurance company totaled my motorcycle and will pay up to $5,000 in medical expenses once I give them access to my medical records. The police report and Insurance found her at fault and her insurance company accepted 100% responsibility. My insurance company has told me that I need to speak with her insurance company or hire an attorney to do so for me. The other party's insurance has contacted me by phone and was asking me how I was doing and what my injuries were.

A few days after the accident, I had a follow up at the hospital that my health insurance is associated with. This hospital had all three of their hand surgeons off duty for several days, so I was seen by a sports injury doctor who put me in a full arm cast (I later found out from a hand surgeon at another hospital that I was not supposed to be in a cast yet do to swelling).

I've had several more "reduction" operations and a surgery at a separate hospital, over an hour away, where the hand surgeons were on duty. They inserted a titanium plate and 4-6 pins through my wrist. After a follow up appointment, I was placed in a cast. I have been off of work since the accident and still need to have the cast and pins removed. After that, I will need physical therapy for my hands.

My question now is how to handle the situation from here. I know that the insurance company can only pay out to the limits of the policy (My insurance representative seems to think their limits are "pretty good"). Should I contact the other insurance company myself and see if they offer the policy limits? Should I hire an attorney?
