How to grow a basic Etsy store Posted: 28 Dec 2017 03:36 PM PST I just started a small Etsy store with some T-shirt ideas a friend and I had. We design and decorate the shirts ourselves. Basically, we just started this for fun. Do you have any basic advertising ideas for cheap? I'm Looking for some inexpensive ideas to get out in front of some people. Any other constructive comments about doing this kind of work on the side? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 05:41 PM PST We have a monthly subscription for custom websites. Is that something business owners would be interested in or would they like one time fee to get a website built? Thanks for your feed back! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:25 PM PST Wheelchair transport service. Meaning we take people who are wheelchair bound to appointments. Monthly expense rough estimate $1200 (not including van - purchased, not financed) One way trip gets $40 on avg ( taking person from hospital to nursing home) Two way trip $80 (to and from doc appointment) There are three transportation broker services in my state that you can register with. I do not know how much they would pay and how much business they would send to me. I called one and they wouldn't tell me anything regarding how many trips they give out, reimbursement, etc. Assuming $80/trip I need approx 12 trips a month to cover expenses. The way I look at it I can reasonably do 4-6 trips per day, while keeping my full time job I am able to operate 3 days a week comfortably, or 3 full days and two half days. (keeping my full time job) This business will cost me about 50k to start. My uncle was recently being a nay-sayer, so Ive come to the internet to get additional opinions. (to be fair, my uncle wasn't saying the idea was going to fail, he was saying ''why not work overtime at your current job, you can make $400/day doing that" - Clearly he doesn't get it) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 01:39 PM PST I have recently come into a good opportunity to get large quantities of Truffles for a really good price. I am able to get white truffle oil and other truffle products also at ridiculously low prices. I would have to bottle and label all of the truffle products myself. I need some advice on how I should go about my marketing, among other things. I know going into restaurants and showing the chefs these high-quality Perigord Truffles is a way to do it, but I'm wondering what else I could do. I live in a metropolitan area so I'm not worried about the lack of demand, and I get it cheap enough that I can sell it less than market value and still make profit. I'm thinking about also trying to be a part of all the farmers markets around my area, as I'd like to think that would get my name out there and maybe I could meet somebody that will help get these things sold. So to sum it all up, my questions are:
Thanks in advance for y'alls help! [link] [comments] |
Family owned carpet cleaning company...need advice Posted: 28 Dec 2017 05:47 AM PST Hoping someone on here can offer me some advice. So we have a small family owned carpet cleaning company run by just myself, my husband and my uncle. It's been owned by our family since 1966. Times have been tough the past couple of years and we are barely keeping our heads above water. My grandfather who passed away in 2001 and my grandmother (78 still alive) started the company with almost nothing and built it over time and it's been an honor and blessing that I've been able to take over and keep it running. As I said though, we are barely making enough money to get by now days but usually can still do it as long as we have steady work for the week. Here's where the problem comes in... We do in Home /commercial carpet cleaning (as well as oriental and area rug cleaning) but our in home cleaning brings in the majority of the money that pays our bills and paychecks. In the winter time, we run into the issue that our water lines that we hook onto our truck mount and run to the customers outside water spicket will freeze when the temperature outside is below 25 ish degrees. These past couple of weeks have been in the teens temp wise and although we did have some jobs booked in, we are now having to push them until we can hopefully get some warmer days to be able to work without our water lines freezing. This has proved to be terrible for us as no money coming in means we will probably be broke within a month if we can't find a good solution to our problem. I guess the advice I'm looking for is really anything we can do to either make additional money (quickly) for the company during this time, find a way to work in the cold conditions (without spending any extra money right now-I know it seems hopeless) or if anyone knows of any kind of insurance that I guess maybe you can cash in on in the event that you physically cannot make money for your company at the moment because of conditions that are not in your control. (I didn't really think this existed but I weirdly remember watching a reality show about a company who got some kind of payout when it rained and they couldn't make money at their venue or something) I JUST took over the company this past year so there are many things I am still learning and don't fully have knowledge of. This year has just been the worst so far and I'm super stressed and sad because I don't want to let a company that my grandparents put their blood, sweat and determination into just fall apart. Just to be clear, I'm not looking for ways to market or get more customers in for the cleaning part of things, we have some people booked, the problem is on our end that we can't clean! Any advice would be helpful. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How does health insurance work for a solopreneur? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 05:24 PM PST I got laid off from my job. I intend to freelance. I'm going to apply for a health plan through the ACA as an individual. Or is there a plan for small businesses? If so, at what point am I going from healthcare coverage for an individual to a small business? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 08:22 PM PST Say I purchased a valuable domain privately a year ago, and I finally decide to do something with it. Is it possible to start an LLC and then lease the domain to my LLC? The idea is to keep the asset as mine and not the LLCs asset. Is this doable? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:32 AM PST I realize that many lenders don't like to lend money to buy out a partner, but I know some do. My partner and I keep running into walls trying to sell out business. I would like to just buy them out and sell it myself. When I google it, I find high interest lenders that may be better at SEO than the lenders that I should be looking into. Where should I look? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 07:45 PM PST We are a 2 person company with both of us in different states (we work out of our homes). We are working on building a SAAS product and have registered a company in Delaware. If we use Gusto/Zenefits for payroll, do we need to register nexus in our home states or does Gusto/Zenefits do that for us? Who should we contact to get everything setup for proper payroll (a lawyer, CPA, HR professional)? There is no physical address for the business. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 02:58 PM PST My wifes goal in life is to start a school for young kids in Kenya. These past few years she has completed her teacher education, and we have saved up the money to start a new life and a business. So the next step is to learn all we need to know about starting a school in Kenya, business education, and the like. We also need to find good contacts to aid us through all these steps. Right now, I don't know where to start. I'm currently trying to assemble all kinds of information that we need to make this huge step in our lives. We have both been to Kenya several times before, and will go there again in a year. We want to be prepared by then. Do you guys have any tips for us, on what we can do to be more prepared for this, or do you know any agencies/companies that we should take contact with? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 05:55 PM PST Hello, For my Master Thesis at the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands, I am testing the attitude of entrepreneurs with respect to the "smart contracts" of ethereum. I am still looking for more entrepreneurs that want to fill in my online survey and help me with my Master Thesis. It will only take 5-10 minutes and I will share the results when it is finished. If you are an entrepreneur and also interested in Blockchain overall, I would really appreciate your help by filling in this survey; https://tilburgss.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_djnFmkMpLpWKmcl. Posted: 28 Dec 2017 04:50 PM PST Hi guys. I'm starting a junk hauling business and just wanted the chance to get any insight from anyone else in the trade. Backstory: Did this as a kid with my father and we were pretty successful. Got paid $5 an hour and bought my 1st bicycle off the job. I was a solid 1/2 man at the time and did my share of work. That was 20 years ago though. We did all this with F150 pickup trucks and would rent box trucks occassionally. I currently own an F150 and an F250 but really want a box-truck. Even without the business I want a box-truck. I sell "trash" and other goods at the flea market and a pickup truck is really limited in that sense. I'm not a great driver though! So bigger is not always better. I considered a dump truck or stake body too but I like the box-truck. It will hold value better over a dump or stake body and look more professional too I believe. 12' or 14' is commonly what I can find as an E-350. Works as a camper for me as well. We filled parking lots with fliers as a kid and I still think this may be the best way to go about getting business. But looking back on it, we kept it very very local. Obviously I'll post on craigslist but I will definitely post up fliers and pull tab fliers. I'll have to check out local dump rates but I'm not sure on pricing at all. I'm generally very cheap with my work and I'm going to have to work on that. I don't have any real questions.. Just maybe some things you guys could point out. I'd like to do some light demoing too if possible. But I may not be in the best market for that. [link] [comments] |
International or local traffic to a blog Posted: 28 Dec 2017 04:15 PM PST Hi, a friend of mine and me are thinking to create a small business in digital marketing. I used to work for a small company and did digital marketing consulting. My friend is working in IT. As we both finish our studies we planned to do a website with focus on visual blog content. This blog website would be our leaning path as we want to use google analytics, tags to track it and social media (youtube, facebook, Instagram and so on to promote it) Our main goal would be either start with e-commerce later on, or local digital marketing consulting (data-driven businesses, strategy follows business and customers values, be seen locally on google and so on) The aim of the website and blog is to get a closer look at the situation. Now the question If the blog content would be in English, and the website .com and we would target actually the world. Will be there any consequences in switching later on to the local market for consulting? I know there is a code form google you can insert if you want to have two different languages on a website, so google knows how to index it. What interests us, how the traffic will be? What would happen with Google ranking and so on? We live in Switzerland and here people speak German, French and Italian. Most of them understand English however. Is it wise to start a blog and drive targeted traffic form the world as a first learning path and then do sales locally? [link] [comments] |
Scrubbing a Phone List for Do Not Call Posted: 28 Dec 2017 12:21 PM PST Does anyone have any ideas on how this is done? I have a substantial list I need to scrub against the DNC registry. I have an account with donotcall.gov and have my SAN number for 5 zip codes.... I just need help with figuring out how to scrub my current list. [link] [comments] |
BabyVue Ultrasound (New Business) Posted: 28 Dec 2017 11:00 AM PST My partner and I started a new business, providing 2D and 3D/4D ultrasounds to expecting moms. We would love some insight across the US if anyone knows of any of these style businesses, and how successful they have become. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Dec 2017 07:12 AM PST I own a cafe that is spiralling fast to going bust. I estimate we have about a month to live. I am trying to sell the cafe since it has decent equipment, very good long term lease and is located at a rising part of town that has some new appeal. I have it listed at two different agencies for sale but I feel it's taking too long. It's been there for about a month. The "agents" say it should be easy to sell the business as they claim to get many inquiries about centrally located cafes. However no real bids of value have been placed and I'm getting a little bit desperate. I really don't want to have a bankruptcy on my portfolio so I'm trying to speed things up as much as I can. Have any of you been in a similar situation before? I would love to hear your thoughts as this is pretty tough to be honest. Really a burden for me personally. I want to try to find a different business or a successful restaurant and go to them directly to try to broker a deal. I am running the risk of looking too desperate and would love to hear advice on how to approach this scenario if you have any knowledge to share. [link] [comments] |
Hi folks. Do you understand what link building/content marketing is? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 10:55 AM PST Hi guys, hope it's been a good 2017. I run a small business that builds links for other businesses. This isn't a promotional post, I would just like some input by small business owners. When it comes to my business, the vast majority of my clients are other agencies, which means I never get to communicate with the business owners which slows things down. My question to you guys is, as small business owners, how aware are you of link building and content marketing as a digital marketing tactic? Is it something you are aware of or do you just pay a digital marketing agency to cover all areas? I'm beginning an advertising campaign on Facebook and would like to know whether it's worth reaching out to small business owners who may have less time or budget than someone who owns a bigger business. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on virtual bookkeeping? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 09:52 AM PST Hey /r/smallbusiness!!! I'm looking for a little bit of input/advice. I'm considering getting a certification to be a virtual bookkeeper, and would love to know some small business owners' perspective on this. How would you feel about hiring a remote/virtual bookkeeper? What would make it more encouraging/appealing for you to do so? What are concerns you would have about it? I would really appreciate any and all input or advice you have on this!! Thank you!! Happy Holidays!! [link] [comments] |

Do I need an official business for making apps? Posted: 28 Dec 2017 08:03 AM PST Hey all, I've recently started developing apps for the Alexa platform, but I have been publishing them under my own name. Along the process, I've been asked questions like what my company name is, but I'm not a part of any business or company, it's just me making skills. This made me think, should I make some sort of company like an LLC for publishing apps? Is that even necessary? Was hoping to get some perspective from other small business people who have done software, and at what point they shifted towards building a business from their software product? [link] [comments] |
