Help! Financial advisor signed me up for the wrong policy!

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:30 PM PST

I was under the impression that $500/month was going to my Roth IRA and $300/month was going to my cash value life insurance policy. 6 months and $4800 later I went to check my Roth IRA and it turns out it was all going to my cash value life insurance. I met with my financial advisor to ask what happened. He, who set up my policy, claims that I can't get the money back or fixed, I can cancel the policy but forfeit the money, and I can't transition to a lower cash value policy because he says it will turn into a MEC. What are my options, am I at a loss, what steps can I take to correct this? This is not what I signed up for and I want my money back and allocated correctly!

Looking at Civics and Camry's - Which to choose?

    Posted: 02 Dec 2017 03:42 AM PST

I've been told that insurance companies can be fickle on the rates for different cars based off of engine size and door count - I'm currently looking at a 2017/8 Civic SI (coupe, 205hp) or a 2018 Camry (sedan, 203hp) due to vastly superior gas efficiency than my 2013 Fusion Titanium. Both are 4 cylinder.

I live in GA, US and I'm currently 23. I work for a fire rescue company and am possibly going to be joining the local police department should they give me offer of employment before my company gets back to me about letting me get EMT-A. I am also a college student with a 3.5 GPA majoring in IT.

I've never fully claimed an accident - I had hit one of those big rakes (with the thick spikes/prongs) on a parkway and destroyed a tire but didn't damage the rim and did not meet the deductible so I did not officially file a full claim but I had let my insurance know in case the rim was damaged.

    Thank you!

EDIT: Forgot to list the engine type. Found out there's a V6 Camry which I'm not interested in at all.

I’ve had my home and auto with Nationwide for 25 years. They’ve finally pissed me off to the point where I’m ready to bail. Looking for tips on how to start getting quotes for other insurers please.

Not-at-fault car accident - who should I make a claim with and what should I look out for?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:42 PM PST

Tonight, I turned left at a green arrow and was hit by a driver who ran a red light. No injuries to anyone, very significant damage to my 2016 Toyota Rav4. I assume its totaled, but, it's a newer car so I don't know. The drivers in the two cars behind me both stayed and gave me their contact info. One stayed to talk to the police, the other gave me his business card, which the police took. I'm not 100% sure the other driver was cited, but I'd be very sad and surprised if she wasn't, hopefully I can find that out tomorrow. Other driver was teenage girl driving her father's car, father had insurance with Metlife. Car was towed to my house a few blocks away.

I have a $1,000 collision deductible. (I know, way too high.) I called my insurance company, Geico, gave them the info, but stopped short of making a claim. They said I could make a claim with them, or with the other driver's insurance. The way they laid out the decision was, if I make the claim with them, they'll arrange to tow the car and get it appraised, it would be not-at-fault accident so they'd cut me whatever check was appropriate, and that they'd go after my deductible from the other insurance company (which they said they often are successful doing), and that they would request rental car reimbursement (which they said they are generally much less successful at getting.) Or, I could make a claim with the other driver's insurance company, and assuming no hiccups, they would pay me for the entire car, and rental car reimbursement, but, I wouldn't get it as fast, and I'd have to figure out where to bring the car in the meantime for repair/appraisal.

My first inclination was to just go with GEICO, let them get the car out of here, hope they can get me my $1,000 deductible, and failing that, go after anything remaining out-of-pocket expenses in small claims court. Then, borrow my girlfriend's car while she's in England for 8 days starting Monday. I might still need an Uber here or there, but, I think I could mitigate the rental car cost, I live and work in a city and don't have to travel far for anything. I'm not going to have any short-term financial issues over this, I have savings to cover any short-term or temporary annoyances.

But, as I type that all out, I start to think that of course I should make a claim with the other driver's company. My only hang-up is the possibility of them dragging their feet, disputing liability, or somehow making this a huge pain in the ass that I don't want to deal with right now. Geico has always been so good to me and easy to work with.

What should I do? And does it make a difference if the other driver was cited? Should I hold off until I can find that out? I have a collision report # and the police report will be available in 7-10 days, but I'm hoping I can get info about whether she was cited during regular PD office hours tomorrow. I'd feel so much more confident about all this going smoothly, if I had that knowledge.

Also, I believe there's a camera at this intersection. No idea if it's functional or records all the time or if I'm able to access it.

At the hospital because someone hit me via car accident - who pays?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 04:28 PM PST

Preliminary question here - I am pregnant and was rear-ended in a car accident and am sent to the hospital. I was told that I have to be monitored for 4hours minimum. I assume since the accident is not my fault the other persons insurance should cover?

Need advice on dental insurance service denial.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:33 PM PST

So, my wife had two teeth removed and posts installed about 4 years ago while we lived in California. Our dental insurer at the time was Metlife. We are now living in Texas and my new employer has Metlife as the dental insurer. They are denying coverage on the crowns she needs because of a clause about prior missing teeth and also possibly something about the fact they were the ones to pay for the extraction 4 years ago. We are now basically paying a slightly discounted full-price to get this finished.

It's a different plan, year, and state. Do they have the ability to deny this coverage?

Is there anything we can do to force Metlife's hand?

    Car relocation, insurance related questions!

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 09:20 PM PST

Hi. I am currently an Indiana resident with a Indiana driver's licence. However, I have a car titled in my name with a valid Vermont registry, but the insurance has lapsed. However, I am wishing to relocate to Minnesota in the coming months. My question is, should I tow the vehicle or insure it? If so, how would I go about insuring it and keeping it consistent with the garage location? Thx

    Short Term Disability

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 10:52 AM PST

Hello all - so my wife and I are currently trying to have a baby. She currently is not enrolled in short term disability through her employer - the open enrollment period was in June. Coverage would've gone into affect in September (she is a teacher). My question to the group is, is it possible to get an individual policy through an insurance provider for short term disability that would help to cover her income through her maternity leave? Her next option to enroll through her employer would be June 2018 but there is a chance she may pregnant by that time and wolf be considered to have a pre-existing condition which would disqualify her. Looking for guidance and options here! Thanks!

Hey guys, I have a claim issue. Car hit a car that slammed into me on the freeway on CA, only had 5k pd on his policy. I don't have collision.

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 11:31 AM PST

I used to sell P&C, but never did claims on the back end. He has the same insurance company as me if that makes a difference. How will the payout work? Will it be split between us so both of us will not get the full cost to repair?

I do have UMPD, but since they caught him, it looks like it doesn't apply (the only time I wish he would have taken off, just my luck!). I haven't gotten an estimate, but it seems to be all bumper damage, so I'm guessing maybe around $500 to get it fixed, but just an estimate.

On a side note, it was some kid in a mustang and she got a lawyer, he into had 15/30, I'm not hurt (thankfully) but damn, that kid is done. Her car barely ran and she was hurt. Get higher liability limits people, it's cheap. I don't have collision due to my car being work maybe 3 or 4 grand (even though it's in good condition) but owing money that kid will is going to screw him for a long time if the lady he hits pays the lawyer to go after him.

Basically, how screwed am I? Any recourse or am I looking at small claims at this point? And if that is the case, will my insurance company release his info? I just want my bumper fixed, never went to the doctor, I was in pain for a day then over it, this was back in October, not looking to take advantage, just want my bumper fixed. Thanks everyone!

Part 2: Hit a deer. Have also agreed to switch insurance. What does this all mean?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 01:15 PM PST

    Original Thread

So I have additional questions regarding this issue. I have put in a claim with Nationwide and they are paying to fix the damage and not totaling the vehicle. I am due to drop the vehicle off on December 6 and it will be there until December 13.

    1. How can I tell if my coverage includes rental car coverage that I can use while the vehicle is in the shop?

    2. The effective date of my coverage switching from Nationwide to Allstate is December 9, the middle of the repair dates. Does this matter at all?

No way to exclude teen from specific vehicles? (KS)

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 05:24 AM PST

My wife and I have 2 vehicles, SUV with liability and Sedan with full coverage. We pay $133/month. 6 years no claims, no accidents.

My daughter turned 17 today, she got her license and a car. '02 sedan. She's completed driver's ed, defensive driving, 3.0+ GPA. Adding her and the car to the policy made the monthly premium $370.

When I received the temp IDs and policy change information I realized the rates increased for all the cars in the household. the breakdown showed the rate for the new car, as well as at rates for the SUV and Sedan doubling. I called and asked what could be done, the answer was 'nothing.'

Are there insurance companies that allow you to pledge that a certain driver will not drive certain cars? Perhaps in writing, with the understanding that insurance would not cover any damages if she was driving?

It seems crazy that every insurance company would look at these type of situations and say "Obviously she didn't drive the cars without a license. Now that she has a license, she has her own car, and won't need to drive the other cars. Let's charge them the same amount as we would if she was the only person driving all three vehicles every day."

I can almost understand the logic. She's in the household, has access to the vehicles, and may drive one if she or the policy holder's thought it necessary. But I wouldn't, and didn't let her drive my cars regardless of whether I thought it necessary previously.. If the difference is $200/month, I can guarantee it won't ever be necessary. For that amount of money I could have helped her buy a much newer, likely safer and more reliable car...

Lastly, isn't my policy priced in a manner that if I let someone (anyone with a valid license) drive my car once, I'd still be covered? If I understand correctly, this nearly tripling of my premium is justified by the possibility that she drives the car even once. Coverage for that situation exists at my current rate, right?

I've spoken with a couple teenage male employees at my place of business. One reports a total monthly insurance cost of $115, he's 19 with an 03 blazer. Another says his parents policy went up $85, he's 18 with a 1998 pathfinder.

My legally parked car was hit and totaled. Tips to get the most money during the settlement?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 07:36 AM PST

So like the title says my 2002 red Oldsmobile Alero was parked in a spot while I was at work. A guy driving a 2017 Ford super duty hit my car and did lots of damage to the front. He left a note with just his number, and when I left work and saw that my car was undriveable I called him. He was reluctant to come back, as well as reluctant to have the police there to file a report, despite totaling my car. I told him tough luck and he came back, the officer wrote up a report and an Information exchange sheet. I started a claim against his policy this morning.

Does my insurance need to be notified? I was advised by the tow truck driver to go through the other guys insurance only so that's what I've done so far

How can i get the most for my car? I got an amazing deal on that car. It had been very well maintained by a family and had just 128k miles on it. Everything was in fabulous shape.

What are a few tricks I can do to get the most money seeing as I now need a new car? And I probably will not be able to purchase one that is in as good condition as mine was with low miles as well. Anything is appreciated!! Thanks!

Commercial insurance carrier is excluding (mid-policy period via endorsement) a coverage I specifically paid extra to have. Is this allowed?

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 05:40 AM PST

I have a policy with an insurance carrier in NJ. My agent wrote it specifically so that it included a coverage typically excluded from a policy for a business with my operations. The carrier approved it and sent a revised quote. I paid a higher premium in full and it was bound. Now, 3 months later, I get an endorsement in the mail saying the coverage we added, that was approved, and that I paid for in full is being excluded. Can my carrier do that? It seems entirely unfair.

    Insane Auto Insurance Quotes

    Posted: 01 Dec 2017 05:17 AM PST

    Hello,

I am looking to buy a prius or ford fusion 2013 to 15 so I can commute to work. I just passed my road test nov 30th and have not completed drivers ed. I also passed my first test (IDK if that has any effect) but I am getting what I believe to be some pretty insane quotes for car insurance and don't think they are accurate. As such I am looking for any advice on the matter... I am 22, first licensed at 22 too, I live with my girlfriends parents, I work 60+ hours a week, I have no rent, no criminal background, my credit score is 540 (dont know if that matters) and im working on it...

I am getting quoted anywhere from 400-800+!!!

My friend who has completed drivers ed, who is not a good driver and has been at fault in atleast 1 serious accident pays 700... I don't understand why I am getting quoted so high when I have done nothing

    I live in mass
