Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:18 PM PST I️ called them to reinstate and they told me they could not and sent me to an in house dept who goes through a different company. They quoted me $330/mo (the previous policy was $110/mo). That seems like such an outrageous amount. I️ haven't had a ticket in 8 years and never been involved in a wreck before this one. Is there anything I️ can do to help reinstate that policy or am I️ just out of luck and hope to find a significantly cheaper quote? [link] [comments] |
Worth it to file $600 Renters insurance claim? Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:17 AM PST |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:14 PM PST Not exactly sure if this is the right place for this question, so sorry if not, but... I looked back at past posts and I see that dashcams are recommend even though it can be a double edged sword. However, I've looked a few times and had a hard time figuring out what dashcams features are important, what ones are easy to install, reasonably compact, easy to use, not super expensive, and reliable. What features are worth paying extra for and what features are worthless. So, my question is, what do I look for in a dashcams and are there any specific brands or models that are recommend? NH USA Edit: for those that come to this later, the side bar on /r/dashcam is exactly what I was looking for. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:35 AM PST I have been noticing that there are a ton of posts regarding the same 3ish things over an over again and I think a side bar post would be very helpful. Specially in regards to: How much should my insurance cost/Is X to much for my car insurance/Etc Diminished Value- Just a run done of the realities of it due to that stupid LPT post. For instance I found something like this. https://www.mwl-law.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/diminution-of-value-in-all-50-states.pdf Third is something about claims, what to expect, response time, realities of police reports. Anything else you see a lot of? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:16 PM PST This incident took place in Michigan. I have the minimal PLPD insurance required in MI with no collision coverage. So the woman who hit my properly parked car kindly left her number and I was able to get in touch with her. She said she was interested in compensating me for the damages out of pocket instead of getting insurance involved, depending on the price of the repair estimate. The repair estimate from the body shop came to just under $1,400. These are the KBB values of my car. If the woman who hit me does not want to try to repay me out of pocket (and can some sort of cash negotiation happen here? That feels kind of extorty on my behalf), will her insurance company try to consider my car totaled and offer me that (likely lower) price as compensation? It'd be nice to get a sum of cash to put toward a new car or whatever portion of the repairs I want to pursue. Any thoughts? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Thinking about adding spouse to insurance plan Posted: 28 Nov 2017 08:08 PM PST My partner has Humana Medicare Plan (Its a HMO, I believe), and we were talking about adding him to my insurance through my employer. My question is..for one is his even possible for him to have both my insurance and keep his medicare advantage plan? Second, which becomes primary and which will be secondary? Where is a good place to start looking for information related to this? I have tried googling and looking on Humanas website, but I am having a lot of trouble getting an answer. The reason this was brought up, was because the cost of his medications. We have discovered it would be cheaper for it to go through my insurance regarding copays. [link] [comments] |
Obamacare and insurance through employer, penalty? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 02:03 PM PST Hello, I enrolled in Obamacare in 2016 for the 2017 year because I was unemployed, but I got a job at the end of January 2017. I was covered by company's insurance in March 2017 and I am still employed. I never canceled Obamacare for 2017 until today, Nov. 2017 (canceling process was very confusing for me), I was told by a Healthcare representative that I would need to call the IRS and that I could potentially be charged a penalty. How much could the penalty be? [link] [comments] |

Finding a better rate in Minnesota (or Indiana). Posted: 28 Nov 2017 05:35 PM PST I could really use some help. I'm looking to get comparable coverage but want to reduce my insurance expense. Can you recommend any comparison services, independent agencies, or national agencies? I'm fairly clueless on where to start. Details: I have a condo in both states (primary residence in Minneapolis) and have only one vehicle. I have all of my declaration pages now and found out I'm paying just over $1,713 a year for insurance (through Ameriprise; they have an arrangement with Costco). Looking to do both condos and the vehicle with just one agency. [link] [comments] |
Can somebody translate this insurance paragraph into readable English? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:28 AM PST I won't bore you with the details, but I'm looking through an insurance document about warranties and have come across a paragraph that is entirely beyond me. It reads: "A breach of a warranty can only be waived by an insurer by the insurer making an unequivocal representation that it will no longer rely on its legal right to be discharged from liability under the policy, and requires the insured to have relied upon that unequivocal representation in such a way that it would be inequitable for the insurer to renege from the representation. " Can any of you translate that into layman's terms? [link] [comments] |
19 yo needs help with insurance in Las Vegas, NV. Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:59 AM PST My parents both receive health insurance through their work, but me, my twin and 2 other siblings received coverage through Amerigroup (I believe it is a CHIPS program). That coverage runs out for me and my twin this December, because we turned 19 in November. Me and my twin are still dependents (in school) and so dont know if we can file through the healthcare.gov as independents or can still be in our Amerigroup coverage? Me and my parents are vrey confused because the Medicaid representative we talked to said we should file the packet that came(it told us our coverage ran out+ included papers to refile for family) and that me and my brother would still be covered. Any help appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:20 PM PST Hey all, so basically my question is; we have a really close family friend that's extremely generous, and basically lost his licence for 5 years and has joked around about giving me his car for the mean time. So recently me and him were talking and he was being very serious about me using the car. Anyways to get to the point, I was asking my mom about it as he seemed okay with it and she said that it wasn't insured. Is there anyway we could go about doing this? Would I be a primary or secondary driver? Any info helps really, Im lost :) [link] [comments] |
Police said both may be at fault, should husband pay out of pocket or go through insurance? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 07:54 AM PST Here's a handy drawing I made to try and explain the accident, since it's a strange turn. Yesterday my husband (blue line) was making a right turn into a parking lot when another car (red line) hit the back right corner of his car fairly hard where I circled in white. Husband called the police to file a report but the officer who arrived told him that it's impossible to tell who is at fault (if the stop sign was run vs if my husband cut him off) so a police report + insurance claim may end up just raising his rates. Looking at his Geico policy this morning, he does have accident forgiveness but is worried about his rates being raised in the future if they decide that he is at fault. Is the police officer correct? Should we contact Geico no matter what or just try to pay for the whole thing out of pocket? Deductible is $500, bumper, wheel and possibly a sensor underneath that's now giving an error are all damaged. [link] [comments] |
Total loss and sales tax in Colorado Posted: 28 Nov 2017 03:17 PM PST Hi! My insurance company valued my car at $13k and under that is a line item for +$800 for sales tax. Is that $800 for tax on my current car, or payment towards sales tax for my replacement? If it's the former, once I buy a new car, can I come back to the insurance company seeking reimbursement for tax and registration costs? EDIT: I've had a ridiculously hard time getting someone on the phone, and the person I spoke to today gave me the impression that she didn't really know and was erring on the side of not over promising. Where do I find insurance industry statistics? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 01:40 PM PST I'm trying to find statistics about the number of payouts for health/ property/ life insurance in the industry. I've already found the amount of money that's been paid out but the count of payouts I cant seem to find. If anyone know, let me know too. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Nov 2017 09:49 AM PST Our business had 5 vehicles get their windows shot out over the weekend. The insurance company said it can't be under 1 claim as each vehicle has its own policy. They are treating it as 5 separate claims. The total damage is about $2000, but not one truck has enough damage to go above my $500 deductible. Does this sound right? Is there any reason to submit a claim if the damage is less than the deductible, or should I just pay out of pocket? [link] [comments] |

Happy with employer, not happy with pay Posted: 28 Nov 2017 04:34 AM PST I wondering if there are any tips out there available as how to handle jumping to another insurance company as a Claims Associate/Claim Handler. I'm in the Atlanta area. Have just about 1.5 years of Claims and Claims handling under my belt. Crazy thingI actually love Auto Claims and Claims handling but company keeps stacking more work on us while openly admitting that they recognize their salary leaves a lot to be desired. It's really really demotivating on my end personally. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Best policy to provide for kids after my sudden death? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 06:23 AM PST Looking for suggestions please. I am 49. I somehow managed to make it this far without knowing that I have a genetic disorder that means I must realistically plan for the possibility of not making it past 53, or even getting to 53. Obviously I'm hoping to roll lucky dice on that, but in the meantime here's my question: As a lifetime single parent I took a lot of 1099 work. I don't own real estate. No 401k or IRA. Zero savings now because I haven't worked since June 30th as one symptom is narcolepsy & it's kicking my ass. My other issue is that I'm a candidate for aneurysms and/or heart valve failure of some sort. I have two children, one under 18. I was betting life insurance won't touch me now but R/personalfinance says ask you anyway. If we imagine that I resolve my income situation favorably soon, what financial vehicle can I use to RAPIDLY create some sort of tiny nest egg for the kids? I also owe back taxes so I need it to be protected in that regard. Impossible request I know, but any input would be welcomed. If I am wrong about the life insurance, please let me know. I don't need to plan for hospice etc., as my exit will be sudden if it does happen. TIA. [link] [comments] |
Who's at fault and what to do? HELP!!! Posted: 28 Nov 2017 12:04 PM PST My wife was driving on the thruway today (NYS) and a State-owned thruway truck made a U-turn on one of the intermediate access roads, causing cars to slam on their brakes with short notice. Huge huge Hertz truck fully loaded with furniture caved in the back of her SUV. Driver couldn't provide insurance information, cop didn't assign fault, and now she's trying to get any info from Hertz about who is paying for damages. In a couple hours she's going to have to pick up her rental (ironically hertz, but it's unclear if they are paying for it or not) Basically I'm asking what our recourse here is. Should the truck be at fault? How do we prove that and get the insurance to pay? Is she partially at fault? The messiness of this and the slowness of hertz is making me consider getting a traffic lawyer. Pretty rare that we get into accidents, so any insight would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Does gap insurance cover the vehicle insurance deductible in a total loss wreck in GA? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:30 AM PST For example: Vehicle was valued at $21,000 of which a $1000 deductible was retained by the auto insurance company, an $8000 loan payoff was sent to the vehicle finance company, and a $12000 payout was given to myself for the total loss. Should not the additional GAP insurance coverage pay the $1000 amount to myself that was retained as a deductible by the auto insurance company? [link] [comments] |
How much does car insurance cost for a handicapped van? Posted: 28 Nov 2017 10:09 AM PST Car insurance experts, does anyone have a ballpark estimate of how much it would cost to insure a minivan (a Dodge Caravan 2016 model) that has a wheelchair conversion? State would be PA. I have asked my insurance broker for a quote but want to get a sense for a reasonable range, and Google has not provided me with much help. [link] [comments] |
