I'm sorry dear, I am just not going to make a material misstatement.

    I'll see myself out.

One of my juniors had a breakdown in the office about his work girlfriend seeing another guy and I need advice dealing with him. Do I slap him with my left hand or my right?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 12:23 PM PST

My left hand has more finesse so I can get the best skin contact ratio on his fat head but my right hand has more power. Unfortunately this situation is real and I'm absolutely dumbfounded.

Any other Big 4 tax people worried they'll never be able to leave work?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:36 PM PST

Hey, Big 4 tax staff in a high COL city wondering if other tax staff/seniors are bracing for a potentially hectic 2018 if the tax bill passes. On one hand, the thought of getting to learn things from scratch alongside partners and senior managers is kinda exciting. On the other hand, I had enough nights at the office past midnight while things were slow to know that any social life outside of the office is already hanging on by a thread. What are your thoughts?

How come people always say sorry when coming into client audit room?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 11:59 AM PST

Anyone else have people apologize when they pass through the audit room at a client? Like damn, we aren't proposing the new tax bills for the country or anything.. Just copy pasting nothing to see here really.

How Important is a Good GPA?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 08:41 PM PST

Just wondering how much employers care if a candidate has a 2.7-2.9 overall GPA. Does it pretty much mean there's no chance of being hired?

    Leeroy Jenkins

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 12:03 PM PST

    Hello everybody,

So I just took the 1st practice test in Becker in REG. No studying for it whatsoever. Made an 81 on it. I'm eligible to sit in January and I'm thinking about going in Leeroy Jenkins (no studying) to REG. Somebody tell me if this is a bad idea lol. Seriously, for those who have take is the real thing much harder?

    OTJ Training suggestions

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 04:39 PM PST

I work at a small firm who's current idea of training is having us summarize articles from CPA Letter Daily. The partners are maybe beginning to realize this isn't working. And have tasked us to figure out what kind of training we think would be effective.

The only problem with that is, we're all new graduates, and haven't seen what effective training in this sphere would look like.

We asked for review notes, explanations behind why things are done, not just that they are done, and maybe some structured practice during down time with a lot of feedback.

What do other firms do to help get new hires up to speed? I feel like we're grasping at straws a bit, and everyone is frustrated.

[US] big 4 auditors in Boston, what industry does your firm focus on?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 03:05 PM PST

I'm an auditor in Boston and all the clients my company does is affordable housing.

I don't like it at all especially when i plan to work in the tech or financial field once i leave public accounting

I'm considering switching firms because of this and was wondering if any of the big 4 focus on tech and Financial services

    Favorite FASB Statements?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 02:40 PM PST

Just curious if anyone has a favorite that they look at every day to remind them how much they love accounting and FASB. Might make a daily calendar so you can read a new statement every day for a year.

Is it normal to do terrible on the Becker BEC cost accounting and finance units?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 05:56 PM PST

Like at first, I figured I needed to stop skipping lectures so I tried that for two units and I still did terrible. I feel like Becker does such a terrible job of explaining these formulas, that I'm getting to a point where I'm literally just associating steps to various terms, which means if the CPA exam uses a different format, I'm going to miss the question.

Are there any good free and quick help aids to explaining the actual logic to the formulas?

Go into CIS instead of accounting??

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 08:51 PM PST

If i do CIS, I will only need 120 credits, instead of 150 and wont have to deal with a cpa test , and I hear the hours are a bit more reasonable overall.

Should i switch to CIS, I am about to get my associates in business, so i can change majors right now easily.

How do you guys/girls cope with anxieties?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 07:49 AM PST

I am generally a nervous, shy guy with a slight lack of confidence. I get panic attacks when I read "See me" in my email or when my partner asks me to close the door when he wants to discuss something with me (90% of the times, it is regarding good things but my guts twist when it happens). Also, I took AUD past Monday and December 19th feels like it's a mile away and the anxiety is killing me.

Aside from growing a pair, drink koolaid and get over it, how do you guys/girls handle anxieties? What kind of attitude did you develop/have that mitigate panic attacks/anxiousness?

    Thank you

Becker BEC Sims Not Giving Partial Credit

    Posted: 29 Nov 2017 08:39 PM PST

Has anybody else been having this problem? On the other sims and practice exams for the other tests, the sims would give partial credit if you answered part of the question correctly. For example, if a question asks for an amount and if it was over or under budget dropdown, and you get one correct, it still counts it as wrong.
