    Stuck on The Name

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 11:35 AM PST

Hello, my good friend and myself have been struggling to come up with a name for our new podcast.

We were both surprised by how few resources there are available in Spanish-speaking markets when it comes business related topics; contrasted against other languages like English where you can find podcasts that cover similar ground as ours (though not quite the same!).

The principle behind this endeavor is very noble - but we're not sure what should the name be for "The Business Podcast" The idea of this podcast is to give people who don't speak English fluently or prefer the native language an opportunity for insight and education. The goal, ultimately- after listening--is that they will take action by either thinking about opening up their own business or seeking more information on how one goes about doing so!

I need help figuring out the perfect Spanish name for my new podcast. It needs to have some personality, be in line with our vision and purpose of this endeavor; so please give me some advice on what you think would work best!

Stop Selling Yourself Short, Heres Why I Stopped Discounting My Services

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 10:39 AM PST

So a while back when I first began my SEO business I was having crazy amounts of trouble getting my foot in the door and landing my first client. Half of this was the fact that I had no work in my portfolio to show people and the other half was the general pessimistic attitude towards SEO services as business owners probably get at least 5 calls a day of someone trying to sell them on SEO. Regardless of the reason, my immediate first thought was to drop my prices down and by doing so I could land more clients. While this seemed like a good idea it was a mistake for the future and here's why.

Discounting my services in the start did in fact land me a few customers so I shouldn't say it was all bad; however, the problems came when I attempted to raise or alter my prices to reflect my services in the future. Here's an example I work with Bob the roofer (not his actual name) but his roofing business went from 0 calls a month to anywhere between 20-50 calls a month because of his website. Now Bob is really killing it and recommends my services to one of his friends Glenn a local flooring business telling him all the great things about my service. Now Glenn decides to contact me and I tell him I can help him but it will cost him double what Bob pays because his industry is much bigger within their local area. Glenn doesn't take this too kindly and says I'm trying to cheat him because Bob pays X amount so why should he pay more. Boom you just found the first problem.

Here's another scenario, John a local business owner wants SEO services for his business and is willing to pay top dollar. He contacts you ready to start and you being a little insecure as a new business owner offers him a great low price deal without even thinking about it because you are use to offering discounts all the time. John graciously accepts and boom problem number two. There's nothing wrong with this scenario but you just left potential money on the table because you were so used to discounting that you disqualified yourself before the race even started.

These are two very real scenarios that happened to me all the time when I first started in SEO and honestly, it may not seem like a big deal because discounts aren't as bad as I made them out to be but like I said long term they can hurt you either from leaving money on the table or just having people expect low pricing because that's what becomes the norm. Bottom line don't discount your services, I'm not saying you can't give old pop pop a discount or your best friend from high school who still has your Nintendo 64 with the matching Mario controller (Jimmy you scumbag if you're reading this) but make sure you charge what you're worth.

    Business closings/equipment for sale

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 04:55 AM PST

I work at a used equipment company and an auction house. I'm asking my fellow Redditors if they know of any manufacturing or production facilities that are closing that need to move their equipment or auction services. The business doesn't have to be closing I can look at 1 piece or an entire plant.

    Client late payment

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 08:11 AM PST

There is a client that my company has been dealing with for a number of years. In all that time the client has never been late with payment, most often they are several days early. Their most recent payment is now a week late. Several days ago we reached out to their accounting department via email to inquire about this because it is out of character. We have received no email back, nor did we get an out of office reply from the accountant after the email was sent. The payment is only a week late, we've had to deal with clients being upwards of 30 days late and at the 21 day mark we usually start emailing and calling daily. I'm unsure how to proceed since they are only a week late. It's just concerning because it's completely out of character. As well, their company had just placed a new order last week.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Concern about extra business in small town

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 07:37 AM PST

    Hi there,

I have a concern about my families business that I am a bit worried about. I live in a small town in Scotland, and my dad owns a well established kebab shop and has for over a decade now. Recently he has opened up another takeaway that is very identical to the kebab shop, literally across the other end of the high street, but specialises more in fish and chips, puddings and pies. He has paid a lot of money for this new shop in terms of equipment because the rent is cheaper and location is better. We all thought he was going to move premises to this new shop with the cheaper rent and more obvious location, but he has decided to keep the two shops open. We all think it is a bad idea because of the serious extra work load and problems with getting staff, especially in this small town, but he keeps on insisting to have this other shop open. He was going to do the same stuff as the kebab shop but with extra fryer food but has already had to do limited things because of staff, in the first week of opening. We are all a bit worried about this but can't get through to him.

Is what he is doing a bad idea or are we all just being overly cautious and worried? I would appreciate some advice with this. My dad is in his 60s now and has had a heart valve replacement a couple of years ago, so he is no where near as fit as he used to be. If you need anymore details I would be happy to share for help. I don't mean to go around my dad's back and ask about this but all of us in the family are really concerned. Thanks for any help

Help with Equity Share Agreement with Business Partner

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 05:17 AM PST

My best friend and I created a business a couple of years ago in a field where we both were needed to make the company a reality. My friend was the one who created the company (who owns 100% of the shares right now), and we agreed to be neutral on shares until we found the time is right.

The equity share has been brought up now, and we're both figuring out what best works for both of us. One thing we can't really figure out is what type of clause(s) we should add to the agreement for the share distribution if let's say one bailout, or if one wants to sell their shares and other clauses that should definitely be in the agreement to make sure both parties are not getting screwed over.

How to ensure I'm paid for a portion of all of a company's sales?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2022 03:22 AM PST

I have a coworker who's looking to start up a multi-front business. For their sake, I won't detail anything unnecessary, but it could potentially be big. I do logo/graphic design in my free time, and we agreed that I would create a logo for their brand, or at least some merchandise, in exchange for "x" amount of dollars up front, and 10% of all profits generated from products and services which utilize the logo I've created in any way. I need to write up a contract to keep them true to my cut, but how would I go about wording it properly without any loopholes, and how can I ensure that they report profits in such a way that I know whether or not I'm being paid what I should be?

If the purpose of a for profit firm is to maximize profit for is shareholders, what is the purpose of a non profit. Maximize utility for its stakeholders?
