Properly logging personal items in case of a needed claim? Insurance

Properly logging personal items in case of a needed claim? Insurance

Properly logging personal items in case of a needed claim?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 03:40 PM PST

I saw a video on Reddit of someone's room with all their personal belongings that burned down and it reminded me a lot of my room. Kind of freaked me out, I own a lot of niche older products that are hard to replace like studio quality CRTs, out of print designer board games, retro video game accessories and if I lost them all to a disaster I wouldn't know how to replace them.

My homeowners insurance includes personal belonging loss, and I want to make sure I can utilize it if needed. I am currently grabbing serials numbers, model numbers and pictures of everything, but the hard part is receipts. For my board game collection, I have them stored at various electronic retailers but matching them up would be a pain.

For the old electronics, many were bought cash second hand on places like Facebook and Craigslist, these are actually the items I'm most concerned about. Can a claim be denied if I don't have a receipt?

Basically I'm looking for ways for the insurance to deny paying for personal loss and how to avoid them.

    Appreciate any assistance.

Can someone take out insurance on my child if I have sole legal custody without my knowledge?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 09:10 PM PST

I have reason to believe that my ex boyfriend has taken out a life insurance policy on my infant daughter. Here's the thing: only I am listed on the birth certificate, and we never signed an Acknowledgement of Paternity form, so I am legally our child's only parent. However, we do have an upcoming court case to establish paternity, financial supports, health insurance, etc.
Can he have an active policy right now even though at the moment he has no legal rights?
EDIT: The reason I believe there may be a life insurance policy is because he received a call earlier this week requesting that he pay a premium for a new policy, and in his court suit against me, one of his stipulations is "Changing or in any manner altering the beneficiary designation on any life insurance policy on the life of the parties' child" is forbidden

ACA Family glitch options. Family insurance is unaffordable.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 08:28 PM PST

My family has insurance through my small non-profit employer. I live and work in northwestern Illinois. There are no SHOP plans in my area. My employer is looking at a FICA tax credit that we may qualify for to make the insurance more affordable, but I am not sure how much that would help.

Starting next month, the family part of my insurance will be about $2,000/month (it is only about $1,700 now...) of my base pay, which is making it difficult financially. Since my employer offers family insurance, I know the ACA family glitch prevents me from getting ACA coverage for my family because it is affordable for me.

Would I be able to no longer take my three adult children as dependents. They are all under 26, but still on my insurance, One is disabled (over 2 years trying to get SSI for them, and my spouse and I have guardianship) and the other two are students.

I am desperate and looking for better options than geting a job with better insurance, as I love my job.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Do I need an umbrella policy?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 07:39 AM PST

Located in CT. We had limits of 250/500/250 on our auto policy and 300k liability on our renter's policy. We were able to increase both to 1m with the auto as a csl for a savings of $50 a year. Would it make any sense to get an umbrella policy at this point? Our current ins company Amica quoted $330 annually, and 451 with our original limits. We're in our 20's and don't own a home or have significant assets yet.

Any tips on how to get lower insurance rate for someone my age (I live in Canada). Please help so I can get the car!!!

Home Insurance Claim - improper repair

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:49 PM PST

Secondary home in (very rural) Michigan. I'm 2019 we started a claim due to some damage we noticed to a well likely coming from a failure on the roof. Long story short the insurance company found a contractor to quote and perform the repairs. We had to go with the people they found because there were no contractors we could find locally. They decided only a partial roof replacement was needed along with a lot of other things. Because they were painful to deal with AND my wife needed better coverage (she needed profession insurance and an umbrella policy) our broker recommended switching insurance providers which we did. Mid-way through the repairs a major windstorm came through and damaged the rest of the roof. New insurance company kicked in and they did an entire roof replacement and fixed everything. This was dragged over through the pandemic. A lot of delays, etc. The General Contractor that we were going through sucked. Poor communication. Never had updates, etc. In Q1 2021 the repairs finally completed and we got to enjoy our Lakehouse for the summer. There were a few "call backs", like the water supply to everything in our basement was turned off (no idea why), and they came back out to "resolve" that issue because they had turned it off and I had no idea how to turn it back on.

Today my neighbor called me because he checks on our house from time to time. The roof is leaking in MANY places, our flooring is screwed. Paint and dry wall is bubbling. There's mold. The basement took water from what looks to be the area they had the water shut off at.

I'm not even sure where to start. Do I call my insurance first? Part of me thinks I should get a public adjuster and/or an attorney involved because I don't want to be stuck with this bill and am amped to go after the GC too.

    Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.

    Reimburse car rental

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:42 PM PST

I got into the car accident but I'm not at fault. My car was totaled. It took them exactly 3 months to investigate the case and within that 3 months I have no car to work so I have to rent a car. And I did tell them that I'm renting a car about $45 a day and all I got from them was "we still investigating" and now they finally sent me my car settlement check and I have email and text message to the claim adjuster about my rental bill and she just didn't reply back

Is there any benefit to having rental reimbursement coverage if we have an extra car?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 07:43 AM PST

Our policy includes coverage for 20/600 at no charge. Is there any reason to increase that if we have an extra car? To go to 40/1200 costs $19 every 6 months.

Brother got in a car accident driving my vehicle. The other driver is at fault. How to handle this?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:00 PM PST

My brother was in a car accident yesterday afternoon. He is not under my insurance (will be adding him soon though). The other vehicle is at fault and I only have liability insurance. Do I have to contact my own insurance or can I go directly through the at-fault driver? The other driver has AAA and I couldn't find out online how to handle this. Any help would be appreciated!

What type of body damage does a standard insurance policy protect against?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 04:45 PM PST

I was driving to my friends house in a hilly area last week, when I heard a scrape against the bottom of the car. For the next few days, I kept hearing that scratching noise when I turn the wheel or drove the car generally.

Took it to the shop, and they told me that the cover of the bottom parts of my car had been split off. They charged me $500 to fix it. Is this something that I can submit to my insurance company?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 04:34 PM PST

Some information about me. 22, No previous car accidents or tickets. I rear ended a car. my insurance is paying for both my car and other cars damages. Total payout is 32K. 18K for my cars damages and 14K for the other car. My car is an audi a4 21 and other persons car is 2020 Bmw x1. My premium right now is $3400 for 6 months. And I have 3 cars insured. and my sister is under my insurance aswell. She is 18 if that matters. My coverage is 250k/500k/100k for bodily injury and liability and 500k/1m uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. What would be the estimate rate hike? By any chance would it be under 4K?

Car being sent to scrap yard after crash without me accepting or even receiving a formal offer for the vehicle from my insurer. UK.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 10:05 AM PST

    Hi,

This is the first time I've had an accident so I'm unfamiliar with how insurer's operate, but I'm pretty sure things aren't happening correctly. I'll try to make this as clear and concise as I can.

Incident occurred 3 weeks ago. I am deemed to be at fault.

My insurer has used an external company to assess the damage which they have done (eventually) from a series of images of the vehicle.

They have concluded that it is a total loss and when I spoke to the assessor he suggested a value to me which I didn't think was a formal offer, but I told him I couldn't accept because I have GAP insurance from when I purchased the vehicle and I would need to speak to them. He said that it's not a formal offer anyway and that any offer would come from my insurer directly.

2 days later having not heard from my insurer, I have chased to see when I could expect to receive an offer for my vehicle. My insurer then advised that their notes say I have accepted an offer for my vehicle made by this external company, for a value different to what had been mentioned to me previously.

I guess my questions are these:

    1. If I have not accepted an offer for my vehicle, is legal ownership of the vehicle still mine and would it be illegal for them to send my vehicle to scrap?

    2. Does an offer for the vehicle need to be made in writing?

    3. What are my options for recourse if my vehicle is sent to scrap without my explicit approval? Would there be any criminality here?

    4. Bonus question, is there a way to get insurer to increase their offer for the vehicle? Used Car prices are through the roof right now!

    ICBC insurance collision claim

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 03:46 PM PST

I am a new driver (not full license) and I accidentally had a minor collision. Total damage is minor dents and scratches costing around $2400 for each car approximately. No injuries from either side. Just wondering how much of a premium my insurance will likely go up by?

Help with car rental in no fault accident.

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:30 AM PST

I was involved in a no fault accident recently. The other driver had already accepted fault, but I did not go through their insurance because it was Allstate and they wanted to me to pay upfront for everything and maybe reimburse me but would not give exact details on what limits to stay within (kept saying get something similar class but then said you just need something to go from point a to b). Because of that I went through my own insurance and chose subrogation.

The problem now is that a part has been back ordered with no ETA and my rental limit has been reached on my policy. What are my options in getting a rental now?

[WA]What are the insurance requirements for an adult first time driver with a learners permit to learn to drive from a licensed and insured parent in the same household?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 02:05 PM PST

What would someone in this situation do to stay in compliance with insurance? As far as I know, I cannot drive uninsured. I just got my learner's permit recently, but I have zero driving experience. A parent who I'm currently living with has offered to teach me. Do they need to add me to the policy first, or am I OK because the car is insured?

Thank you. I apologize if this is common knowledge. I am completely ignorant on the subject, and I've seen a lot of conflicting information online. If any additional information is needed to answer this question adequately, please let me know.

Edit: I just wanted to add that I can't really adequately learn through a driving school. They're only doing these online through zoom in my area, and I don't want the first time that I operate motor a vehicle to be the day of the driving test. Maybe I'm just stupid but I don't think I'd be able to pass if that was the case.

    $700/mo for car insurance

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 05:31 PM PST

That's what my farmers' agent told me.

The only thing on my record would be speeding tickets. I feel like I get one maybe every 2 or 3 years. I got one recently and I am on a payment plan to pay. I have never been at-cause for an accident. Someone recently hit my parked car in a parking lot and their insurance paid for my car to get fixed.

The agent said it's due to my driving record that it is high.

I don't even know how to SEE my record let alone fix it. Would love any advice.

Btw - does the cost of the car also go into consideration? Like if I tried to get a cheaper car will the insurance be cheaper?

[FL] Obtaining a declaration page from a company we didn't receive it from, and the broker is under investigation

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 12:52 PM PST

Are there any regulatory agencies specific to homeowner's insurance? It's a very long story, but I've found this all out within 24 hours and am trying to get coverage ASAP over a weekend and the first few days of next week.

Short version is (bullet points because I WILL ramble):

    • Homeowner's insurance company was recently downgraded. We did not know about this.
    • Insurance broker we've used for over a decade is under investigation for multiple counts of fraud
    • Neither insurance broker or insurance company notified us of pending lapse, but one says they did and the other is not contactable YET, but am still trying multiple avenues.
    • We found out about lapse in coverage yesterday, via mail, from the mortgage company, with date of lapse (which is recent).
    • I'm in the process of shopping insurance. Based on circumstances, we're basically stuck with the government-backed insurance. "Circumstances" includes the fact that almost no brokers are binding new clients in our area due to outrageous fraud rates and the fact that the policy holder has a recent discharge of chapt 13 bankruptcy (which she's out of now, yay!)
    • I've contacted both Insurance Company and Broker to attempt to get a copy of declaration page, which I don't think we received.

I'm going through a firm right now that's helping me navigate and get a new policy in place, but in the meantime... since the brokerage is currently in legal trouble and will probably go under, if I cannot get that declaration page from them or from the insurance company, do I have any other entity I can contact that can compel that from either the insurance company or the brokerage? I've contacted the Florida Office of Financial Regulation (about the broker issues), but I'm hoping there's a specific insurance thing that I need to ask for or contact, if any of you know. Trying to prepare for worst-case scenario, so I'm not blindsided after we've got the home inspection done.

    ANY advice will help.

(full disclosure: I've also posted to legal advice, but that's more about the legal ramifications and so on)

Policy with another car after Write Off (uk)

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 12:01 PM PST

Sorry for the bizzare question, but a colleague had got me questing myself.

Car was written off, after third party drove into the back of it while parked, they admitted liability, so not our fault

Insurance paid out , we bought a replacement car, called the insurance company up, and changed the car details on the existing policy (8 months to go) and fine we think after paying 25£ more

Weird colleague in work says "you can't do that, you need a new policy for the new car, as the old one has been claimed against.."

    I think that's bonkers, but thought I would ask…just incase…..

My existing policy can still carry on after a site off with my replacement vehicle can't it?

Does anyone know what kind of intensive care is provided through Health Net Medi-cal?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 10:54 AM PST

Next month a huge hospital and urgent care is going to open about a mile from my house which I'm relieved about because the nearest one was 7-10 miles away. I found out today I am technically covered under the hospital (torrance memorial).

Question is, let's say someone I know is having a heart attack, stroke, needs an urgent x-ray, in labor, etc I don't have time to ask if its covered or not and can't seem to get in touch with reps as phone line is crazy busy. Are these procedures covered or will there be a hefty bill?

    Duty to Disclose

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 09:39 AM PST

Do insurance brokers/companies typically have a duty to disclose information to eachother/government agencies?

Trying to renew home insurance and my new potential insurer asked for a Electrical Inspection/Certificate.

Based on where I am financially I cannot afford this inspection. Can I terminate the broker and go back to renew with my former (still current until the end of the month) insurer? Or find a new insurer? Will the broker be obligated to disclose/inform anyone I denied doing the inspection?

(Ontario, Canada) Gf crashed my car (at fault) & has her own insurance. What’s the best way to file insurance claim?

    Posted: 19 Feb 2022 09:25 AM PST

With noting we live in same address with different auto insurance policies. I have added her as optional driver. My insurance is telling me I should claim under my policy, but we will need up getting penalized as she will incur an at fault and I'll incur a claim. Would like to know if there is a way we can minimize damage (eg by claiming on her insurance only). Thanks.
