Insurance to cover massage chair Insurance

    Insurance to cover massage chair

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 08:47 PM PST

I recently went to Costco and they had a guy who was demoing a personal massage chair and it blew my mind. I've been dealing with chronic pain for many years. Mostly back and neck. I have also been treated for years. I used to be on neuropathy medication and now receive bi-weekly injections. Last year I had seen a physical therapist for a while and a chiropractor for about 6 months straight. No relief from any of these therapies. Unknown causes and my MRI only shows that I have a straight, or flat, c-spine. The ultrasound shows potential signs of tissue damage, but nothing definitive.

I didn't have an accident or anything the pain could be contributed to.

I've been reading about how insurance may cover a "personal massage chair for medical treatment." I have an appointment with my provider scheduled in a few days, but wanted some advice.

My Partner is losing insurance due to turning 26, does COBRA cover this at all?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 07:51 PM PST

They start a job next week that will offer insurance 30 days from hire, but they are literally going in for surgery tomorrow and have mandatory followups for the next few weeks.

Their current coverage will officially end March 3rd, and their new coverage starts around the end of March.

Auto insurance - when to file for rental/loss of use?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 10:14 PM PST

Hi all, my car was damaged by cargo that fell off a pickup truck, and it will be in the shop for several months for the repair. I need a car to get to work, but I do not know exactly how long the repairs will take.

Should I front the money for a rental car and file a claim with the pickup truck driver's insurance later for the amount? The body shop says it will be at least 60 days

    Inherited commercial property insurance issue

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 07:51 AM PST

My father passed away recently and I inherited a 7800sqft commercial property. He had this insurance policy that was really a sweet heart deal because this property was his "man cave" and he was down there all the time working on projects and restoring cars. Now I am the owner of this property and everything in it. The insurance company kicked me off because I live on the other side of the country, and wouldn't work out ANY deal with me.

The property is valued at about 480k, and it has about 300k in assets stored inside. I do have a kick ass security system installed, and some of his friends store their vehicles there so they are in and out occasionally.

Based on my research, I'm in a bit of a pickle. What are my options here? I need to insure this building and at least some of its contents.

Tricare clawing back mental health therapy fees

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 07:43 PM PST

Hello everyone, I am a licensed mental health counselor in Texas and saw a client for over a year for mental health counseling. My client was a dependent and their spouse carried health insurance under Tricare (the spouse was and still is active duty military).

They went through a contentious and ugly divorce and the active duty military spouse informed Tricare that my client was covered under another health insurance while I treated my client. (I was completely unaware of this and my client did not inform me that they had secondary health insurance at the time. When I asked after getting the notice from Tricare, they gave me their insurance information.)

Tricare sent me a letter demanding pay back for services rendered. They stated that Tricare would act as a secondary insurer and I should have billed the primary insurance (Blue Cross Blue shield) first.

I have not paid back Tricare. I called Tricare and noted that there were several mistakes they made in their letter to me. Most notably, they tried to claw back for an entire year's worth of therapy when they claim that my client was covered for 6 months under their own health insurance. While on the phone, Tricare informed me that they paid me for 2 months when my client was not insured at all. (This cannot be true as the military requires that active duty military members insure their dependents.)

I billed Blue Cross Blue shield for the time my client was covered under their insurance and have not heard anything back in over 2 months. I offered to see the patient through private pay, and they have been unable to afford the deeply discounted fee I offered. (They are currently in arrears $40 for two sessions.) I have stopped seeing the client for follow-up sessions as it would be unethical to put the client into more debt and our written policy is not to see clients with accounts past due more than 30 days. Thankfully, the client completed their course of treatment and did really well in therapy. The client is wonderful and in a sincerely terrible situation.

I informed the client verbally that they will have to pay what insurance will not cover and they be required to cover the copayment should Blue Cross Blue shield pick up payment. Thankfully, this is covered in my intake paperwork that the client signed before starting services. The client informed me that they cannot pay me and they actually owe other health providers thousands of dollars because Tricare has demanded payment back from all of their medical providers as well. (I can't even imagine what that is like for them.)

I am waiting to hear back from Blue Cross Blue shield in terms of what they will cover and waiting to hear back from Tricare for the corrected clawback amount. I spoke to Tricare 30 days ago and have not received anything in the mail yet.

I'm reaching out to this subreddit because you really know what you're talking about and I've learned so much by reading questions and responses here. I am open to your advice and I ask you to please be kind. I have stopped taking health insurance as a provider for this reason; Tricare is attempting to claw back north of $3,000.

I am open to any and all ideas. Thank you in advance for being a great place to ask questions. TBH, I wish I had been reading this subreddit before I started taking my own clients in private practice - lesson learned.

    Pumpkin pet insurance?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 07:25 PM PST

Are there any cons to pumpkin pet insurance because my old Insurance was raised to $900 for my 19 year old cat, so I was looking if there are any insurance companies that accept old cats and I found pumpkin insurance which just seems to good to be true? Only around $100 each month, no vet exam required, is there anything I'm missing?

College student hit my car while I was stopped. Next steps?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 06:56 PM PST

    Hello,

A college-aged kid hit my car while I was stopped at a stop sign with one of those hourly rental scooters. (He's ok.) I pulled over and he admitted fault in front of me and my friend in the car, and said the brakes on the scooter went out. He told me he didn't have any insurance (doesn't own a car and no renters insurance) but that he could probably swing around $500 for repairs. We exchanged info so I have his drivers license and phone number.

I went to the body shop today and got a quote for $2700. So if I go through my insurance, what happens? I've heard I'll get a point against me on my insurance record for the collision (which seems odd) and will have to pay an increased insurance premium for years. Is that correct? Will they go after the young man? Does it matter? How much is this going to cost me?

    Thanks for your thoughts!!

    Healthy paws pet Insurance

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 06:47 PM PST

I have had healthy paws Insurance for my cats for around 10 years, always for $100 for my older cat. This year however, they raised the price to $900 because my cat is older? (He is 19 now) I understand that it gets more expensive as the cats get older but $800?!

First time dealing with workman’s comp…

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 05:09 PM PST

Long story short, I was injured on the job. After I gave the adjuster my statement and forwarded the health record that corresponds to my injuries, I got a letter one week later saying my claim was denied due to 'causation'. The letter then states that the case is "pending clarification of work status as it relates to this incident". I understand what causation means, but still unsure whether I would be awarded anything due to the 'pending clarification' comment?

Hit car in front of me, then got rear ended

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 01:01 PM PST

So basically, I was on the highway in stop and go traffic. I was going normal speed and didn't realize the guy in front of me stopped, then jammed my brakes too late. I ended up hitting him, and the person behind me hit me, which caused me to be forced back into the car in front again. The second impact definitely did more damage. I'm in California if it matters, but my question is, how do I go about dealing with this. This is my first accident ever. The police came and took statements and information from all 3 of us, and now I'm just waiting for a report. I already called my insurance and let them know what happened, and they advised me that I would have to file a claim with the insurance of the guy who hit me. Is the car behind me responsible for hitting me, even though I jammed my brakes? And am I 100% responsible for the damage I did on the car in front of me, even though the guy who hit me caused me to damage the car more severely?

How does Continuation of Care work?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 04:46 PM PST

My wife is expecting to deliver the first week of March. We are living in Texas and have insurance with BCBS of Illinois. BCBS and the hospital system we are using are playing chicken with their contract negotiations. If they don't work something out, the hospital will move to out of network starting on Mar-1. We've been trying to understand the process today for what impact this means for us and what our options are. It seems like we can request continuation of care so that the in-network rates would be honored, but we were told we couldn't submit the request until they actually move out of network (Mar-1) and that it might take 2 weeks to get the approval. We are in that sweet spot where the baby is going to get delivered before we'd probably have that approval.

    • Is there any reason she wouldn't be approved for continuation of care?
    • When we are discharged, if that hasn't been approved, do we have to settle with the hospital someway that day? If we make any self-funded payments, so that cause any issues if our insurance would have instead end up covering it under the in-network rates?
    • After the baby is delivered, if my wife requires any further medical care resulting from delivery, is that still counted as continuation of care or are we SOL and anything after that is out-of-network?
    • Is there anything else to be said about this situation that we just wouldn't be thinking about?

At this point, it seems pretty difficult to even swap hospitals unless we just show up after she's gone into labor. We had contacted a few doctors about changing over, but they said they'd have to review the medical files and couldn't commit to accepting my wife as a new patient.

    Dental Insurance, Unexpected Bill

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 04:12 PM PST

Looking for some advice... I was at the dentist about a month ago and the dentist told me I grind my teeth in my sleep and need a bite guard to wear at night. I asked if my insurance (I work for the State of MI, so I have quality insurance) would cover it and they said they have many patients that work for the State and they know the State would cover most of it, but they could confirm if I wanted them to. I asked them to confirm. After about a 15-minute wait, a staff member returned and told me the insurance would cover everything but $60. I said okay, that sounded good, and paid the $60 that day. They did the measurements for the bite guard and I went on my way.

Today, I received a bill in the mail from the dentist's office for around $540. It looks like my insurance covered my visit and cleaning that day, but not a dollar of the mouth guard. I don't even have the bite guard yet- I haven't been back in to pick it up. I would have NEVER agreed to the guard if I had known I would be on the hook for the entire cost. Do I have any recourse here? Do you think it was a mistake by the dentist? I am at a loss and pretty upset over it. Thanks.

After exams we both came back as 2nd best level health wise they could offer. 20 year term. For 800k for myself and 400k for my wife it is $37 and $27 respectively per month through Pacific Life. Does this sound right?

Is it worth the time investment to spreadsheet/picture everything I own?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 03:25 PM PST

I've been doing this in a limited fashion for awhile now, but only with high dollar items (electronics, instruments, power tools, etc.).

Is it worth the time investment it would take for me to take individual pictures of everything I own in my house and categorize it in a spreadsheet? Incase of a fire/burglary.

This is going to be a massive time investment, I'm really not sure if picturing and listing 'everything' is worth it (example: t shirts, pencils, hand tools, picture frames, toothbrushes, etc.). Thoughts?

New York State auto insurance question post dui

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 10:28 AM PST

My fiancé has been without a license for over 8 years following a fatal car accident he caused while dui. There are several driving related felonies attached to this incident. The dmv just recently allowed him to get his drivers permit and he plans to take a road test in the near future. He is also looking forward to owning a vehicle again. He is not able to get an accurate insurance quote since he doesn't have a drivers license. Everyone he did talk to made it sound like he wont be penalized that badly as the crimes are over 5 years ago. I see New York CAN look back ten years. But do they? We have found some carriers will not insure him at all just due to the lapse in license/insurance. I am very worried about how much he will pay, as well as how this will affect my own insurance. I have a very clean driving history. I thought I read that in New York you cannot exclude a spouse from your policy. I'm worried that my insurance carrier will completely drop me and I am afraid to ask them. Would not being married be more favorable or does it not matter? I haven't been able to find much information. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Should I enroll in my company's insurance if I am still covered under my mom's plan as a student?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 02:00 PM PST

I recently started a new job and I am eligible to start receiving their benefits. However, since I am under 26 (I'm 23) and still in university, I am still under my mom's insurance which has been pretty sufficient for me as far as medical/dental goes.

What are the Pros/Cons of enrolling in my own company's benefits? Will I lose eligibility to be under my mom's insurance plan if I get my own insurance?

    Thank you.

Why did vehicle accidents have a lawsuit taking 5 years to get settlement?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 01:45 PM PST

Here is what happened. Accidents happened in August 1995. I was at fault. Victim has back injury. The victim went to hospital after accident and then got released back home at the same night.

A week later, I got a letter from the victim's lawyer. They demanded me to take this letter to my car insurance.

About 6 months later, I called insurance and asked if he had already settled. They told me no. Victim wants 7,000 dollars, and insurance only wants to pay 3,000 bucks.

I haven't heard from them until the winter of the year 2000. At winter if year 2000, I got a mail and calls from insurance attorney telling me that victim's lawyer want me to come to meetings room between insurance lawyer and victim lawyer and I give my own statement of what happened. I signed the paper to say yes, and I can come to make a statement. Then , I haven't heard or even got requested to show up for making a statement. By the early spring of the year 2000, I got a letter from insurance it said it had already settled at 3,000 dollars.

So why take this long? The insurance is still the same at the beginning of the lawsuit and end of the lawsuit.

I don't even understand why want my statement is, but never arrange the date to meet with them.

    And why took 5 years?

So, car insurance companies are not factoring in the insane 45% inflation when a vehicle gets totaled...?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 04:22 PM PST

How is that okay? I get that insurance is pretty black and white, and it's easy to assess the value of a vehicle. But is everyone that gets in a bad wreck for the next few years screwed? Situation:

My sister was rear ended. Her 2010 Toyota was totaled. Her car would have easily lasted another 5-10 years, it was in great condition. They have acknowledged this, but remain that they will not factor in the inflation right now aka what the car "was" worth should she have sold it last week. What they are offering her will not even cover 25% of what a 2010 corolla currently costs.

Is there anything she can do besides possibly lawyer up?

Need Help in Deciding Career Path - Agent or broker?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 03:57 PM PST

I'm ready for a career change and I think going into the property and casualty insurance industry will bring challenges, and meaning as I'll be able to help people. And I'm excited that it would allow me to work independently.

A little about my background. I've been an administrative assistant for almost three years and I'm going nowhere with that title. Not in life, not even within my current small company. I have a Bachelor of Arts in both Psychology and Communications.

Now, seeing how relatively naive I am in the insurance industry, I'm not sure whether to get started off as an agent or a broker. I understand that an agent represents an insurance company while a broker represents their client. Having some guidance on which step to take first will let me decide which license to get, the Registered Insurance Brokers or the Other Than Life.

I want to start off working for an agency/company to gain experience and eventually work independently as a broker. Does it matter or make sense to start off as an agent then go on to be a broker? I just think starting off as a broker will be harder for a newbie. What's a reasonable path?

In case you're wondering, I'll be 43 this year and live in Ontario, Canada. And my address is...just kidding. On a serious note, your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Collision Repair Question RE back ordered part

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 12:08 PM PST

I was rear-ended a month ago and my car has been in the shop for repairs for a month. Today, the collision shop called and told me that my car is ready, but they had to put the old muffler back on, due to a national shortage. They think it will be safe, just not new.

They will call me when the new one is available, which could be anywhere from 6-months to a year! Insurance stated that they will pay for a rental car when the part comes in.

Both the insurance and repair shop are saying it should be fine....

I have children and I drive a lot of miles for work.

    Any advice?

Would you be ok with this?

    TIA
