Tricky question about car insurance and family member I don’t trust. Posted: 28 Jan 2022 06:00 PM PST So my sister who I haven't spoken to in a long time supposedly got in a car accident. I don't trust her at all and don't even know the full details and if what she said happen is true. I'm also barely finding out about this which is why I'm asking if anyone experience d knows anything about car claims and if anything potentially smells like shit. So my sister randomly calls me to tell me if I can send her a photo of my license because the car claims adjusters needs to make sure it wasn't me driving her vehicle. Once this is cleared according to her they will start fixing her vehicle. I was suppose to be excluded from her insurance which I was on long time ago but according to her she said the company made a mistake of never properly removing me. I don't want to send her any of my info because I don't trust her (long story). I don't want anything biting me in the ass. Is there any way I can verify all is true and she's not trying to pull anything sketchy ? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jan 2022 08:12 AM PST State farm is paying for damages to my vehicle because it was not my fault but the other driver. They had me go to a preferred shop for a estimate and after I told them I would be going to another shop that I trust, they said they now have to send an appraiser to look at my car and now have to wait again, why do they need this when I already went to get my estimate at the shop they had listed, if the appraiser estimates a different amount can I show the pdf I have of the original estimate I have [link] [comments] |
I crashed, I’m not sure what to do. Posted: 29 Jan 2022 07:28 AM PST I crashed yesterday, a girl passed a red light while I was turning left. (My left arrow was green) this is the first time this happens to me. Any advice you can give me? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
How eyeglasses once every 24 months work? Posted: 29 Jan 2022 06:07 AM PST I get a Alberta Blue cross Extended Health and Benefit insurance from my employer and they cover 250$ of eyeglasses in every 24 months. Benefit period starts from February 1. Does it mean if I get a eyeglass this month (January 2022), I will be eligible for the next one in February 2023? (After 2 benefit years) Or will I be eligible in January 2024? (After 2 calendar years) [link] [comments] |
Question about replacing items. Posted: 29 Jan 2022 04:42 AM PST I recently had a total loss to a house fire and received the payout for the contents. My insurance is State Farm. I had several antiques I inherited from family. They weren't items I would normally buy, but they sentimental value so I kept them. I put there value for what it would cost to replace but because they were so old the ACV was almost nothing. A couple Examples is a crystal punch bowl set that was worth $300 ACV was $43, 1960's Buffalo Bill BB gun worth $150 ACV was $11. Can't I replace those items with anything and still claim it? The 2 biggest was my wife's wedding dress that she paid $1700 for and they gave an ACV of $300. She has no need for a wedding dress and would like to use that $1700 for a purse, is that something they would give us the remaining $1400 for? The other is my computer. I had a custom water cooled gaming computer that was 4 years old. Because of the current crypto crazes the cost they gave me to rebuild it was $4500 but the ACV is $800. I don't have room for a big desktop setup at the new place and would rather have a laptop, would I be okay to buy a $4500 laptop and get the remaining balance from them. [link] [comments] |
Dental Claim may get denied - Very Worried - Please advise Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:33 AM PST Hi guys, Tl:Dr - I was told AFTER the root canal procedure that prognosis on the tooth is "guarded". Checked insurance details and they say they will not cover root canal for "guarded, questionable or poor prognosis" teeth. Very worried now that claim will get denied. Looking for advice on what to do. I've neglected to get treatment on two teeth due to no insurance and no money for a long time. Now i'm trying to get my dental health under control. Originally my primary care dentist suggested that I get root canal on one and get the other extracted. While getting the root canal my endodontist said "you're young, you should try and save the other as well". I asked about the finances and cost of all that and they said it would be the same for both teeth. I figured alright lets do it. Root canal on the first tooth proceeded smoothly, all claims were processed and paid by insurance. Then I went in for root canal for the one that was originally to be extracted, and after the procedure, endodontist tells me that the root canal finished successfully but she says the prognosis on this tooth is "guarded". I asked her what that means and she told me a bunch of things including that the insurance might treat this claim differently so I should check with them. I came home and looked up my insurance claim details and under my schedule of benefits they clearly state under Exclusions "We will not cover endodontist treatment for tooth with guarded, questionable or poor prognosis". No one had mentioned to me about the "guarded prognosis" or that my insurance may not cover treatment for this tooth, prior to me actually getting the procedure. I'm now shitting bricks.

Posted: 29 Jan 2022 03:17 AM PST I'm really sorry if this is not the right sub, but I'm at my wit's end. To make a long story short, my parent's house flooded and they have been staying in a hotel 2+ months. The contractor has submitted the estimate to the adjuster over 3 weeks ago and insurance haven't approved anything. The contractor wants to put us on their schedule, but I told them to hold off on starting any work until the estimate has been approved. But, all communication from the adjuster stopped a few weeks ago. At one point, I was able to reach out to the adjuster's supervisor and the supervisor claimed that they tried to reach us at my parent's home phone number - the home they are currently not living at. Despite, me repeatedly telling them to call my # and that I would be handling everything. Since then I've called the adjuster and his supervisor repeatedly. What do I do? My dad has dementia and staying at the hotel has not been good for his health and well-being. He's confused and wants to go home. He's in one of the final stages of dementia and he's going to die in some place that isn't home. Why can't they reply to me? Who do I escalate this to? Do I call the insurance and try to make a formal complaint? Will the adjuster or supervisor try to retaliate? Can I remove them from handling the claim and if I do will that just make the process longer? My dad cannot live like this for another month or two. Thank you for your time if you've made it this far? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2022 02:16 AM PST I live in Florida and my 2019 Toyota 4runner was rear ended by someone who was rear-ended by a 3rd car. The cost of my repairs was ~$4000. I have asked my insurance company to reimburse me for Diminished value of the vehicle and they have come back with a DVA of ~$1900. which is 4.18% of the value of the car. This number sound ridiculously low to me. am I out of line on this? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Uninsured Driver who is at fault Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:48 AM PST I live in Hawaii (no fault state), and have Geico. About a month ago, another car ran the red light and t boned me at an intersection, leaving me without a car. The police came right away and a city bus driver was an eyewitness to the scene and told HPD he saw the driver run the red light. This whole time I have been speaking to not only my insurance company, but his as well (liberty mutual), then all of a sudden I get a phone call from my insurance (Geico) saying that Liberty Mutual denied his claim and will not be covering the accident because "his vehicle was not insured at the time of the accident". I am a little scared now since this basically means I got hit by an uninsured driver. They said they will try to contact him directly but if he doesn't respond, I will be responsible for the deductible. He owns a care home and a gym here, so I know he has assets. Would it be worth it to sue? Also would it be good for me to tell my insurance company that he owns two businesses? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 29 Jan 2022 01:21 AM PST Maybe this is the wrong thread to ask but I don't know where else to ask. Basically, I was driving a car with no insurance. The cop said if I at least buy insurance for the vehicle by the date of the court date, I should only be charged a 100 dollar fine. Does anyone know if this still stays on my record and also, if I would still have to get SR-22 insurance, thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jan 2022 10:26 AM PST My little sister who is 17 years old was driving my leased car to drop off our niece at her school. She has her permit. As she was driving, a car that was parked suddenly started to back up to a parked space and crashed into the front right bumper of my car. My sister pulled to the side and parked, meanwhile the other lady got off the car and started yelling at my poor sister who at this point was crying, to leave. My sister left scared and dropped off my niece. We filed a police report and the report said it was the other ladies fault. The report has the info of the lady so I contacted her to pay for the damages or at least half, but she hasn't answered. Should I go to the car insurance or pay out of my own pocket? I live in NY. What happens when you leave rehab early Posted: 28 Jan 2022 09:55 PM PST Does my insurance still pay the center if I do not complete the program? Or will the center come after me for the insurance not paying? Anthem blue cross PPO is my insurance provider. [link] [comments] |
Condo Insurance-water leak damage Posted: 28 Jan 2022 08:54 PM PST Hello! Canadian here. I have read that most home insurances (including mine) do not cover damages caused by slow leakage of water over a period of time. Now, it made me wonder how do condo owners know if a pipe behind walls in their unit is slowly leaking? And if so, how does home insurance view this damage? Example: lets say I used nail to mount a painting frame, and I hit a pipe accidentally with the nail, but don't find out until months later? Does home insurance cover it generally? Or not? Thanks! (NJ) How to get long term care insurance for young disabled adult Posted: 28 Jan 2022 08:04 PM PST I am cognitively disabled and in my late 20s and looking into an in-home caregiver for myself. My father and primary caregiver is elderly and is reaching the point where he is no longer physically able to care for me. I have an agency willing to work with me but they told me I will need to purchase a long term care insurance plan in order for them to do so, as LTC insurance is the only insurance that will pay for their services. I've looked into different LTC plans in my state but most of them are only open to senior citizens 65+ and not disabled young adults. Medicare does not cover long term care and I am not eligible for Medicaid. I don't know anything about insurance so I have a few questions:
Thanks in advance. This is all really new to me and I don't really understand most of it. Never did this on my own before and my father is unwilling to help. [link] [comments] |
Concerned about getting dropped for filing a claim cause of someone else's fault Posted: 28 Jan 2022 07:43 PM PST I read through my homeowner's insurance policy, but I couldn't find much on this matter. I heard from someone that after making 3 claims under a certain period of time, the insurance company dropped her. Does this vary from company to company? Let's add subrogation to the mix. What if the insurance company were able to get their money back? In other words, it wasn't my fault. Will they still add a strike to my record? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jan 2022 07:37 PM PST I'm genuinely so confused on what's happening and I feel as though I've been lied to: Back in July, I got some wisdoms pulled, I was informed that the total was $1,600ish, I was told my deductible was $700 and that insurance would cover the rest of the $1,600ish cost Six months later, I get a call from said dentists office, I'm suddenly told that insurance won't cover because of "pediatrics" (I'm 20 btw) and that I'd need to pay the rest. Afterwards, I immediately call my insurance's customer service, they explain to me that the medical insurance declined to pay, but my dental is still processing it... Why are they processing the claim after 6 months?!?! I call the dentists office back to tell them, and the lady said she had spoken to dental and they were the ones who wouldnt cover. I don't know anymore, I'm so ****ing confused and I'm mad. I would've never had my wisdom teeth removed had I known I'd be paying over a grand. Am I being scammed? Will I have to pay out of pocket? Posted: 28 Jan 2022 06:53 PM PST A private insurer solicited us by mail with help from SoCal Gas. They want us to sign up for repair coverage of the gas line from the street to our gas meter at the house at about $7/month. It was first installed in the early 1970s. Apparently our regular homeowners from MetLife (now Farmers) doesn't cover this. Worth it? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Jan 2022 06:07 PM PST I went to a doctor for PrEP (Pre-exposure prophylaxis ), and the doctor billed the labwork involved as diagnostic labwork and the service as treatment with a "medical diagnosis". The insurance company said PrEP can only be covered if billed as routine or preventative. Keep in mind there is a federal regulation that requires they cover it. And PrEP is obviously preventative. I'm going back and forth between the doctor and the insurance company and would like to know: How common is it for a doctor to bill PrEP service as diagnostic treatment with medical diagnosis? The doctor claims this is how they normally bill this service and are confused it's not being accepted by the insurance. [link] [comments] |
How to transition into Insurance Claims? Posted: 28 Jan 2022 05:19 AM PST Hello! As the title says I'm interested in transferring to a career in insurance. No degree, I've been in door to door/retail sales since 2019, I like to work with people and I'm pretty good at multitasking, just wondering if my background translates into any insurance related fields that aren't sales? I'd like to get into claims but I'm trying to find out where to start. [link] [comments] |

Do independent insurance agents make money for performing customer service tasks, or just sales. Posted: 28 Jan 2022 09:14 AM PST I understand there are independent insurance agents out there who can give quotes and help sign you up for insurance from multiple different companies, and they make a commission when doing so. I have heard that if you sign up through them, but then need to make any sort of adjustment to your policy or similar customer service task, that you can either call them, or you can also call the main company's customer service. But do they make money for this by billing the insurance company, and hope that you will call them, or is this something they just do for free as a courtesy, and really they hope on the inside you would call the main insurance company instead, since they already made their commission? I'm picturing someone who for example signed up for insurance and keeps it for 20 years, but a couple times a year they need some customer service task done, or has questions, or something similar. Does that agent just get a one time commission, then 20 years of doing free work, or do they somehow get paid for any time spent doing customer service? [link] [comments] |
Progressive rental car coverage Posted: 28 Jan 2022 03:11 PM PST I was in an accident on 12/23 and my car is not drivable. Other driver's insurance company (Allstate) claims that I am at fault but my insurance (Progressive) says the other driver is 100% at fault. My insurance adjuster advised me to wait to repair until Allstate determined fault, which wasn't until 1/25. Now that we are in subrogation we are moving forward with repairs but it'll be a few weeks. I've had a rental since 12/28 and Progressive told me they will stop paying for it on 1/31. This will leave me without a car for 4-6 weeks and I don't have any other options or the money for a rental myself. Is there any way they would extend the rental? Or any other options I have? My rental coverage limit is only 30 days but my adjuster repeatedly told me to wait for Allstate and that the rental term 'wouldn't be an issue'. Any help is appreciated! Thanks! [link] [comments] |
