Auto liability adjuster vs total loss adjuster? Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:26 PM PST I have no experience as a claims adjuster but I'm interviewing for both of these positions soon. Which would you recommend and why? Is one position less stressful than the other? [link] [comments] |
Dwelling limit on Home insurance Posted: 22 Jan 2022 12:26 PM PST I bought my home five years ago, and the dwelling limit on it is currently $247,000 - which was fine at the time I bought it. I think real estate has been kind of crazy most places, but where I live it's been extra crazy - and my house is now worth $430,000, possibly more. Do I need to look at increasing the dwelling limit? I've never had a house increase in value like this before. If someone would have told me at the time I bought this house that it would be worth this much in a few years I would have thought they were nuts. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:01 PM PST Progressive's covering a rental car for me while my car is in the shop. I needed to suddenly leave town for a week (death in family) and returned the car to the airport to prevent wasting unused days, planning to get a rental again when I come back next week (I cleared this with Progressive). Now, turns out due to flight issues we need to drive, and I can't reach an agent until Monday. Question: Can I just rent a mid-size car from Enterprise, without really worrying about the price, and expect that someone in Claims will provide a back-dated reservation code to Enterprise that can be used in my rental contract? Has anyone done this? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I'm seeing a therapist but I don't know if insurance is covering it. Posted: 22 Jan 2022 03:54 PM PST I was sent by my PCP to see a therapist after saying I would like to see one. The therapist asked if I had insurance and I gave them my info and they didn't say anything else. It's been 2 weeks and on my account, it just says I owe $140. I tried learning a bit about how it works but it's so complicated, and I don't know if I'm being covered or not. I use united healthcare. Any help would be appreciated [link] [comments] |
Do I submit a claim and when? (Just hit by an uninsured motorist who didn't have ID). Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:17 PM PST We are in Washington state and were just hit in a parking lot by an uninsured motorist who did not carry any ID on her. This is our older car (worth about $7K right now) which we plan to just drive until it dies (never planning on selling it). She was backing out of a parking spot and hit us in the side of our vehicle with her rear bumper. The accident was a low-speed collision, so the damage is fairly minimal (rear quarterpanel dent + rear bumper partially dislodged). Nobody was injured. When we asked for license and insurance to exchange info, it became apparent that she didn't have either... at all. She and her husband held out a big wad of cash and asked if $2,000 would make the problem go away. They probably had $5K-$10K in the car with them. We were shook and called the police at which point her husband ran off with their dog. Seems he didn't want to be around when they showed up... the police officer seemed baffled by that development, as were we. I got contact info from three witnesses who all agree the other vehicle was at fault, as they all saw her back up without looking behind her. The officer rolled up on scene, took statements and they determined that the car was not actually registered to her. She then showed him her big wad of cash, which he advised us to take. He stated that since everything occurred on private property and nobody was injured, since we might not otherwise be able to get any payment out of her after the fact. We made a verbal plan with the officer and the young woman who was behind the wheel to get our car assessed at an auto shop and see if the $2,000 covered the damages. We have her phone number to contact her if the amount was insufficient, but the officer told us not to rely on that, as she could just as easily vanish on us. My question is thus: At what point should we file an actual claim with the insurance company? Or should we at all? We have an under-insured motorist clause on our insurance for exactly this reason... but since we don't have any ID from the young woman in question, the officer advised us that we didn't particularly have much standing to extract anything from her after the fact. Would filing a claim increase our rates? Since the car is still functional and reattaching the rear bumper seems to be the only fix required, would it even benefit us to file a claim at all? We could probably get that done for less than $2,000, and since we don't plan on selling the car, we don't particularly care about the diminished value if an accident was reported. -Sincerely, never been in a car accident before and a bit freaked out by what is probably some shady money. Should I file Auto claim or pay ridiculous charges Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:01 PM PST Recently got into a small bumper scuff accident... with a parked 2021 BMW... it's leased... im at fault. It was an accident, it was slow moving in nature due to the arrangement of the cars and i never went above 5 mph. Here's the damages to their car: https://imgur.com/a/CExU1pl I only have a small dent on my car maybe 2-3in in diameter, not worthy of pictures. With those odds against me im trying to figure out the best course of action for myself. I offered to pay for the damages of this Scuff, seeming like it's a simple buff and clear coat paint job. They went to a BMW dealership and was quoted $2,500 in repairs for a replacement bumper, rear parking sensor, and paint. Itemized quote here: https://imgur.com/a/skttdx3 I think im getting ripped off (as might be typical with going to a dealership for repairs). First of all, it makes no sense that they can't paint the existing damaged bumper, but they are charging for a full bumper replacement (in addition to the sensor replacements), AND a paint job....... huh?!? I'm going to investigate by calling the dealership, I have no experience dealing with dealerships, Do I have any negotiating power on how the repairs are done at a dealership? My main questions: Should I file a claim against my insurance or pay out of pocket? Can I run this scenario through my insurance before actually filing a claim to see how my premiums will be affected? Would the dealership let me take the bumper they're replacing so I can at least recoup some money?? lol Personally I'm leaning towards paying out of pocket. I am on a joint policy ($750 collision deductible) and I definitely don't want the co-policy owners affected for my mistake. I started driving and was added to the policy last month. Coincidentally I was going to leave the co-policy to be under my own policy. But given this accident I might be starting at a high premium (I don't know how car insurance works when it comes to this) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jan 2022 05:33 PM PST Hi guys, I recently got into an accident. What happened was that my coworker was putting her kids in her car leaving her car door wide open, and I saw this with my side mirror that her door wasn't touching my car. And since we all back into our parking space, I had to check both sides before coming out of the parking spot. After checking that the coast is clear, I proceed to come out of the parking spot, and that's when my coworker's door is suddenly in contact with my car door leaving a dent in it as I drove off a little bit, there is no damage on her end, only my car door. Considering becoming an insurance broker Posted: 22 Jan 2022 05:31 PM PST I have an opportunity to be a broker for Gallagher. Can someone explain the honest upside to this as I've heard that most brokers are making +250k that are established. Will this take over most of my time? How high stress is the job? What are the cons? Also, if you were a new broker what industry would you target first. [link] [comments] |
Homeowner's Insurance Policy non-renewal Posted: 22 Jan 2022 05:07 PM PST My parent passed unexpectedly about a year ago. Due to this, they left behind a home which, per their will, is to become my property. The company insuring the property sent a notice of non-renewal and policy expiry in early March, due to the policyholder's death. I get why this is the case and don't have a problem with that part of things. What I am concerned about is that the home is in probate, and while I have a motion drafted by the estate attorney ready to be filed early next week to grant immediate transfer of the property to me - I am the estate executor and sole heir - there is a possibility due to court backlog that the motion will not be granted before the in force policy expires. Since the insurance company we use does not provide coverage to estate properties, I may be forced to a company such as Lloyds with a limited coverage policy at a significantly higher premium - per the broker, likely 2-3x the current premium. My estate attorney is dubious that this is my only option, but I'm inclined to believe the insurance broker over the attorney in this case. Are these limited coverage policies as bad as my broker is making them seem to be? Once the motion is filed, after a reasonable amount of time - attorney thinks 4 weeks or so - should we really turn the screws on the Court to get the motion before a judge? Yes I'm sure I could have had this done sooner, but this is all been a huge "learn as I go" process. I will be so relieved when it's all wrapped up hopefully in the next few months. Posted: 22 Jan 2022 12:59 PM PST Hello, I was considered not at fault for an accident(CA). I settled with the insurance and recently I got letters saying I'm being served by the at fault insurance provider. I thought all was over but I guess not. Their insurance said I was partially at fault but my insurance said I wasn't since they failed to yield. I sent over the information to my insurance. What is the likelihood of me losing? What worries is my policy was a little back then since I was young. However, I learned an increased my coverage. [link] [comments] |
Quick Workers Comp Insurance Question! Posted: 22 Jan 2022 02:36 PM PST Actually, it's a couple of questions. But I'll be quick. I have a good job opportunity with a local interior painter. He's told me that I need to get worker's comp insurance to work on his job sites. I don't have any professional painting experience, this would be my first real painting job. I've tried to sign up for this insurance a few times but most of the big companies are rejecting me for worker's comp insurance...because...I don't have worker's comp insurance????? I've seen a few quotes with insanely high prices like 650$ a month, which is insane. I was expecting to pay maybe 100$ or so. Can anyone help? I'm stressed. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 22 Jan 2022 09:58 AM PST I live and work remotely in NYC, because of that I don't need my car. But I probably won't live in NYC forever so I don't want to sell it right now. Since parking a car on the streets in NYC with no intention of ever driving it is asking for it to get hit or stolen, I decided to leave it at my parent's house in New Jersey. No one drives it since my parents have their own car and so its effectively in storage. My car insurance is asking for proof of garaging address but I don't have any W-2s or pay stubs with my name and my parent's address on it. So now they're asking me to change my car insurance policy to account for the fact that I live in NYC, even though my car isn't here. I thought I was doing the right thing by having insurance on this car so that I didn't have a lapse in my coverage, but I don't want to pay more in insurance because of the state I live in especially when my car isn't in this state. Should I just cancel my insurance? Is there some sort of storage only policy I should be looking into? [link] [comments] |
Accident Damages Claim Procedure Posted: 22 Jan 2022 09:48 AM PST I had an at fault car accident (CA), I rear ended a student's car. She suffered minor injuries. She has a damages claim in but my insurance say that since the accident they have not been able to agree on an amount to be paid for her injury and medical expenses. I only had state minimum insurance (now upgraded). A friend has told me that as I only had the state minimum, the issue is likely to be down to my policy limit, he says that if there is no agreement, I'll then be served with court papers which will likely mean she is suing me for damages above my policy limit. Is that how it works? [link] [comments] |
Semi truck written off, can my boss take the insurance payout? Posted: 22 Jan 2022 12:55 PM PST I recently wrote my semi truck off while driving (it went up in flames). I bought this truck off my boss 6 months ago for $60k (he owns a small trucking company), have a bill of sale and took a loan out to pay him for the truck (which was deposited into his account). Monthly insurance payments come off my paycheck the insure it. This truck however, is registered to his company name. Things are getting finalized with insurance and I'm waiting for the payout now (approx $55k). All the insurance dealings have been through him as his company is the one with the policy and the truck is registered to him, so the cheque will have his name on it. My question - I want to leave the company ASAP for many reasons, but I fear he's going to be pissed and never going to give me the insurance money. Did I mess up by not registering myself as the owner? Can he do this, isn't it considered stealing? Am I missing something? Really appreciate any advice. [link] [comments] |

Where is a good place to get auto insurance for fast cars? Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:13 PM PST |
Posted: 21 Jan 2022 07:19 PM PST I recently saw an in network podiatrist and had custom orthotics made for my running shoes. On my way out the door after being seen and having the imaging done, they asked me to sign something. I had two small kids with me at the time and the office was was 30 min late for my appt, so admittedly my kids were over it and I was distracted. I listened to what the receptionist told me it said and didn't stop to really read it. I was told it really isn't an issue for me bc I have good insurance. But that if my insurance didn't pay in full they would charge me for the orthotics. They said they took $250 as a deposit. They charged my card that day. My insurance (cigna) paid in full but they never reimbursed me. I called and left a message for the business office and didn't hear back. I had an appt to have them fitted soon so I figured I'll handle it then. The day before the appt they called and said they were canceling me. No reason, no apology. I was admittedly ticked off bc I arranged to use PTO to go this appt and it'd been scheduled for over a week. When I explained that they put me on hold and another lady came on. She was rude. Condescending. Not at all concerned with making it right. I asked if she also happened to be the billing person and she said yes. I said I left you a message and never heard back. What's up with this charge, my EOB paid in full and you can't charge an in network customer more than the allowed amount. I said "this is honestly shady". English was not her first language so she asked what that meant. I said deceptive. As it feels not on the up and up. She then raised her voice at me and spoke to me in a pejorative tone as she told me to "shush up" as she stumbled through trying to explain. I did say "this is f%#ing shady". She then hung up. I get it. I wasn't my best self. I called back as she told me to do before she hung up and asked for the front desk. They said they wanted to just mail them to me and they only owed me $60 back. So $190 on top of the $480 insurance paid and they agreed to when they signed an in network contract. Plus I would be fitting myself now. The contract says the cost is $500 regardless of insurance. This includes a doctor follow up. Days passed and I got a certified letter saying they're firing me as a patient which is embarrassing and I'm disappointed with myself for how I let it get me so mad. They included a check for $250.However the letter said we aren't mailing your orthotics. My insurance already paid and I can't get two sets. How do I handle this?! I just want to use my benefits so I can run pain free. And I really don't want to have to deal with them anymore. If I give the letter to cigna will they reverse the payment to them? Insuring my recently deceased father's house while estate is settled Posted: 22 Jan 2022 07:32 AM PST My father passed away a couple of weeks ago, and we realized that his home owners policy expired last week. The insurance company won't renew the policy because he is deceased. We called around to get a new policy for the house while his estate is settled, but no one will write a policy when we are not on the deed for the house. I'm nervous about not having the house insured for potential months. The house is located in Florida. Any recommendations on how to insure the house? [link] [comments] |
At-Home Covid Test on HDHP Plan Posted: 22 Jan 2022 06:31 AM PST Are at home covid tests covered at no cost, or still subject my my deductible? I thought the new 1/15 guideline meant they should reimbursed, but my EOB says covered, but full cost is my responsibility. Insurance is Anthem if that helps. [link] [comments] |
