At fault car crash, next steps?

    Hello all,

I wanna preface this by saying that my parents were unaware of the fact that I was excluded from their insurance, they just believed that I had been "taken off" but still able to drive their car like any other person. Obviously this is incorrect but English is their second language and I wasn't there when they changed the policy so I wasn't aware. It is my fault, I should have read their policies before driving their car or been there during the change so I could translate.

I was involved in a car crash in California. I was the at fault driver and admitted this to the police who were called as the other driver's window airbags deployed. No one appeared hurt and I exchanged insurance info with the other driver through the police bc I thought that my dad's insurance would help. Triple AAA called us today saying that they cannot cover the accident as I'm excluded. Geico (the other insurance) called and I talked to a claims adjuster and was truthful to what happened, admitting that I was at fault. I also told him what Triple AAA told us. He says that he has all the info he needs and the insurance company will be in contact with us.

I'm not sure if the other car was totalled (mine was even though airbags didn't deploy bc it's an old car). I know that I have to pay for the damages on the other person's vehicle and related medical costs and lost wages as he was a part time lyft driver. The adjuster said that they would go after me legally, but what does that mean? I'm 21 and in college so would this affect my chances for ever getting another job or apt? I have some money saved up from my school's financial aid but I don't know if I can use it to pay this as it's technically for school related necessities. If they go after me legally (the driver or Geico) will I lose my apt as they take all of my money? I don't have a job but it's my father's vehicle, will they go after his wages? What will happen once "they go after me"? Do I need a lawyer? I can't afford a lawyer. Will I lose my license? I'm so confused and as I'm a native English speaker I'm the one who usually researches what's happening but I just don't understand all of the legalise jargon? Have I destroyed my family's life????

    Thank you
