Finally published my first ever game and earned a few bucks Posted: 13 Dec 2021 05:30 PM PST This year was a very tough one with all the tragedy that happened in my family. Nevertheless, I was able to publish my first game on Steam and earned real money. I solo developed the game for 9 months. My initial goal in creating the game was not to earn money but to learn and enhance my programming skills so I can apply for a job. I studied C# and game engines through online materials. It wasn't easy at first but at the end all the hard work is totally worth it. I had 0 downloads when I launched the game for the first time on an online platform. No one knew my game, except a few friends. What I didn't know that time is that marketing is one of the most important aspect of selling any product. I learned that the hard way. Thankfully, some fellow developers appreciated my efforts and love I put on the game that they donated a lot of money and even downloaded the game to give me some honest feedback so I can improve the game even more. Through that initial funding, I was able to release the game last month and finally achieve what I really wanted. I was on the brink of giving up but the support from my fellow developers online gave me the boosts I needed to finally push through and release my first ever game. I'm truly grateful for all the people who help others when they are down because without them, the world will not be a better place to live. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 14 Dec 2021 02:23 AM PST It's because my employees felt safe(r) to not worry about making mistakes, and that working on correcting the mistakes and preventing them was more important to the business and me. It also freed up more time for us to make more money (no complains about this lol) I also realized that it's probably common for bosses and colleagues to blame each other and throw each other under the bus, and that's the kind of culture that i precisely dont want. Such a waste of time ugh i dont like those stupid corporate games when we can go direct, which is faster and makes much more money so I asked myself, why not just create a culture where its very logical when it comes to errors:
Just 4 steps to fixing errors. And that's one of the ways we doubled our income and decreased time wasted on blame games or hiding mistakes or schemes (almost zero politics, yay!). Best, Nigel If you liked this, take a look at a short 6-minute video I did - with a employee case study that i think will be practical and useful. About me: Average entrepreneur, dad and husband who is fascinated with marketing, leadership, entrepreneurship and creating a life and stuff that matters. These videos and posts are a fun project for myself where I share about what I'm thinking about or cool stuff I discover. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Dec 2021 07:16 AM PST Finally 'launched' my website / brand today! I built the website and backend over autumn and winter 2020, then neglected it this year and concentrated on my consultancy work through most of 2021 and just did odd bits on a few weekends here and there. Site is still only 1/3 to 1/2 of where I'd like it to be, but it got to a point of 'just one more thing', and I used that as an excuse not to go live. After reading dozens of threads on here for motivation, moaning to wife about 'not having enough time' she said 'just do the damn thing', so I have. Had a break today and tomorrow from working for client, and just polished a few bits to get site in state good enough to launch, ordered some flyers I'll hand out locally, and can now look at next steps. In new year will look to employ someone with skills in marketing, social media etc, finish developing the order fulfillment and stock management side and hopefully gain traction, and see what feedback I get to see where I go next. So, scary bit done, now the hard work starts. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Dec 2021 11:37 AM PST I love my job and don't want to change careers. This past year I finally hit 6 figures and lived relatively frugal though I plan on being on a more strict budget for 2022. I put some money into savings, my debt is paid off, and I have between 15-25 grand extra. I know nothing about investing unfortunately, I've tried learning but truthfully I don't find it interesting (or easy to understand) and I'm scared to make the wrong choices. Also I'm wanting to buy a piece of land and build an off grid home with cash in the next 3/5 years, so would like to have access to it in that time frame. Unfortunately I most likely won't have the option to take out a loan for that as I went through some really rough years and my credit is trash and will be for the foreseeable future. Yay. So I've considered using the money to start a small business on the side, something that I could do myself or with an assistant. It wouldn't be anything huge, mainly because it would be on top of my regular job. I'm trying to brainstorm some ways to turn this money… well, into more money. I don't expect to grow it exponentially, just seems like I could do something with it other than let it sit in a bank account. I live near a vacation area and military base. Any ideas? Posted: 14 Dec 2021 03:56 AM PST Hello, i am a web developer working for a small web agency in my country(Algeria), i make arround $350 per month at max for 3-6 new projects each month plus the maintenance of the old projects and tech support, one day my boss sent me by mistake the bill of one of the projects i made and it was about 3 times my salary so i decided to start my own web agency and tried to look for local businesses online and call them to offer my services but i can't seem to have any client to approve on a project, i don't want to quit before having few projects for safty but also in my country it is hard to make bills for the clients without having legal company status, the only way is to make a consultant contract with the clients. Any advice or help would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |

I need to change something in my team, but I dunno where to start. Posted: 13 Dec 2021 11:42 PM PST Hello everybody! I have a small company. Hence I have a small team of employees. I'm not going too deep about the specifics of our work. I don't think it's gonna be reasonable and that you would be interested in hearing all the aspects of our work. Overall, I can say that we provide some sort of services for other companies and work B2B. So, about 20 people work for me. Despite all the stereotypes about employers, I try to provide my team with a comfortable office and different facilities. I also used to work for someone a while ago, and I try to be a good boss and leader for my team. But the reason I'm writing here is not to brag that I'm the best boss ever. As for me, it seems like my team doesn't appreciate what I do for them. It's not like I am not satisfied with their results. It's the way they do their job. Overall, we are doing okay. But, I know that we can do more. Hence, we can achieve more and make more profit. My team has lost their motivation, and money, including bonuses, can no longer motivate them. So, I know that I need to re-arrange the team. Besides, I guess that I have too many people with the current volume of work. So, in other words, I need to cut some jobs and fire someone. I'm thinking of firing someone who works with the clients and does the main job. That's why I'm looking for different evaluation methods. As I mentioned earlier, overall, we are doing okay, but we could do more. By this, I mean that I have to force and beg my team to start working most of the time. It happens every morning. For instance, we have deadlines, and overall, people manage to complete the work on time. So, making them work costs me a lot of energy, and I feel exhausted. I don't wanna yell at anyone or even humiliate someone. But, this can't last forever. Recently, I came across one interesting methodic called the behavioral observation scale. I wonder if anyone has tried something similar? Does it work? I would really appreciate it if you would share some of your experiences. Thank you for your time reading all this! [link] [comments] |
The “perfect” Business Plan Template (detailed on Google Docs) Posted: 14 Dec 2021 05:24 AM PST Hi, I was searching for a business plan template online but couldn't find one which gave me the proper confidence that it has everything included. So I came here… Does anyone of you amazing (future or active) Entrepreneurs have a detailed business plan template to share (preferably Google Docs) ? I want to use it mainly for myself to get my head around planning for the next year and years and be able to make good decisions a long this journey. [link] [comments] |
Getting started in the world of content creation - I need some advice from experience Posted: 14 Dec 2021 04:15 AM PST Good day! I've spent the past 2 years honing and training my skills in a certain aspect of a career and I'm finally planning on creating a YouTube channel/Facebook page dedicated to this career. I won't get into much detail of my plan but it's revolved around giving to those in need, with some content in the career I previously mentioned. At the end of the day, my goal with this content creation idea is to give to those in need such as non-profit organizations, churches and the like, but I would really love to find a way to leverage social media to give more. In a way, I'm trying to utilize the same concept as MrBeast's concept of wherein profiting -> giving to those in need -> profiting -> giving to those in need cycle. For sure it won't be an easy path but with dedication and my reason behind the idea in the back of my head, it will for certain get me to places I won't be able to reach without starting this idea. Thank you in advance and I hope to hear some insightful thought from you guys! ^_^ [link] [comments] |

Client wants a three year contract with the same price Posted: 13 Dec 2021 11:18 PM PST Hi all, I own a cleaning company with my partner. We started a few months ago and it's doing really well. However, we are quite inexperienced with this topic so I'd like some input. We clean two offices of a company. When we started out, our prices were pretty low and we figured that when we start to hire people, after all the taxes etc, the costs of a worker (with a fair wage) would break even with the money we'd get for the cleaning. So we have raised our prices and explained it and she understood why they had to be raised (she knows we are just starting up). However, she did say that if she were to agree with the price, she wants it in the contract that the prices won't change for the next three years. Which is fine, but. What if there is a crisis or the minimum income go up even more? We think that it is risky and are thinking of offering her a one year contract. What would be the best thing to do? Does anyone have input on this? As far as we know, prices always rise (even though it could be 1-2%. I don't really know. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
I Got My First Referral Client Today! Posted: 13 Dec 2021 09:30 AM PST A while back I wrote about how one of my older SEO clients had actually left me and discontinued his SEO services, and it wasn't because he wasn't satisfied or didn't see results but rather he was going to sell his business and retire. Once he had left I assumed that was the last I was going to hear from him; however, the other day I believe he left me a parting gift as I received a text saying "Hey my name is ____ and I'm a roofing buddy of ____, I heard you help businesses with SEO services?". After a little conversation and some price negotiation, we decided to sign a 6 month SEO contract. It was completely unexpected, but honestly, I'm super grateful to have even gotten the opportunity to work with my original client in the first place, and seeing him look out for me and recommend my services even in his retirement really meant a lot to me. This is going to be my first referral client and I am super excited to get in there and start helping him grow his business through the use of SEO. But this experience really showed me that hard work does pay off and if you treat people right they'll take care of you just like you did for them. [link] [comments] |
Creating online classes with recordings - advice on best way to generate passive income Posted: 14 Dec 2021 02:35 AM PST Hello brilliant minds, I'm hoping to receive some guidance and insight into a simple business I plan on creating. A bit of context - I've been doing tutoring/teaching students (mostly in-person) for many many years, but now I plan to create a platform where students can purchase memberships to access my classes. I teach how to tackle entry interviews for very competitive and widely sought after post-graduate programs in the country. I plan to do this for various reasons: 1) I'm starting full-time work next year, so will not have any time to conduct more of these tutoring/teaching sessions with new students, 2) I have a lot of resources and experience in this area and hence would hate to let that go to waste. 3) Over the years I've had so many students enquiring for my classes, so my classes have turned from one-on-one private sessions to groups of up to 8 students. I want to create this platform so that I don't have to dedicate more of my time for each potential student, and that no student misses out on my classes solely because of my unavailabilities. Basically my goals for this business is to:
Here's some options I have thought about:
I would appreciate any suggestions or feedback on how I might be able to achieve this, and whether there is any recommendations to which direction I should be taking this idea (i.e. which platform, how to monetise, how to market this business etc.) Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How do I vet a UX designer when hiring? Posted: 14 Dec 2021 02:22 AM PST My team are hiring a UX designer and we're unsure how to test if someone is actually competent at UX design. For developers we give them coding challenges, but we're a bit stumped for how to test designers. What methods have others on here used? [link] [comments] |
Is My website/purchase flow ready for investment? Posted: 14 Dec 2021 02:21 AM PST Hi guys, so over the last year ive been developing and managing a business/website with a friend, we help/boost accounts from the game "Apex Legends" (we plan on changing game whenever hype dies) Weve gathered like 3k euros in revenue and my partner has a lot more revenue coming from a similar business but run on instagram. My question is...should i invest in SEO? How do i take this to the next level? our domain authority is super low... Do you think i could contract someone young like us for 500-600 euro a month to run seo and other marketing related aspects? I just dont understand how entrepreuneurs are supposed to be able to build websites, know marketing, know SEO, and so much more. In other words, im a little lost on how to expand from just PPC search ads. Website: https://boostify.es any feedback is appreciated. [link] [comments] |

Software development agency - software for invoices and project budget tracking Posted: 14 Dec 2021 02:15 AM PST Hi all, I'm in a need of a software that can help track projects in terms of budget allocation, developers who worked on what, and invoicing based on the same data. I want it to be simple, so I want to avoid full-bloated software that I would use only 5% of. As a software development agency, we basically have projects with their monthly/fixed budgets, have some people working on them and using those budgets, and we have to invoice based on that usage. I just want to be able to: - assign a budget to a project - assign people to projects, with the appropriate rates and salary costs - get insight into each project health and viability (earnings vs. cost) - invoice based on the work done, from the budget allocated What do you recommend? 17 wanna start car tinting business Posted: 14 Dec 2021 01:26 AM PST I'm 17 and want to start my own mobile tinting business and eventually work my way up to wraps. I can already tint windows, I've been practicing. Does anyone here run a tinting business that can give any advice or maybe share how they got to the point they are at now. I plan on tinting friends and family members cars for cheap to build up capital and get gain some experience. Once I feel ready I was thinking about offering tinting at the local car meets I go too for fun already. I think car meets could make me a decent amount of money but I imagine the real money is getting a contract with a dealership. Has anyone done consistent work with a dealership with there own independent company? (Oh yeah I plan on doing all this on the side so I can still have a steady income while the business grows) [link] [comments] |
Am I pricing projects too cheap? Posted: 13 Dec 2021 05:00 PM PST Is this solution too cheap? Our client needs a solution to communicate with its employees (80 roughly) and manage their courses via an LMS. They need a web app interface in a Facebook style newsfeed with employee groups and a custom app that's fully white labelled for Android and iOS with push notifications for when an employee is mentioned/DMd. The solution is essentially a self hosted Facebook for Work but tailored to their needs. I've found a solution that can be built on out of the box and includes an app builder framework. We'll use this BuddyBoss solution as the base and build outwards integrating LearnDash etc. I've priced this at around £3200 ($4200) but considering the client is getting a custom app and a web interface is this too cheap? It's not fully bespoke which lowers the cost but the client doesn't entirely even know what BuddyBoss is. Thoughts on the price? [link] [comments] |
Hey, Any App Owners Here? - Would Love Your Genuine Feedback Posted: 14 Dec 2021 12:01 AM PST Hey, everyone. I am a product manager at AppsHive. In a few months, we have gathered a substantial amount of users. I am trying to collect early reviews and feedback from the community on our Platform. The product is just the MVP of our original idea. And we are looking to improve the product for the users. The concept is simple. AppsHive takes mobile apps and distributes them by profession, location, and subcategory-based listing. It simply connects App Owners to App Users. We are just concerned about the onboarding form. Some App owners find it a little longer to give their time. However, many believe that it is worth it as our products distribute their apps to multiple listings. Would love your take on that. Thanks in Advance! [link] [comments] |
What is the best online side hustle for a student to start? Posted: 13 Dec 2021 05:40 PM PST I've tried marketing but getting clients was very difficult, and the startup costs were quite expensive in marketing them. E commerce seems interesting and like there are good tools to help you get started, but it seems like the industry changes rapidly and it is difficult to pinpoint what your products/niche would be. I'm willing to put a lot of time into this but obviously it can't take everything as I am a student primarily. I'd love to hear any advice you may have. Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |
Is door knocking really a good way to get more customers? Posted: 13 Dec 2021 03:38 PM PST I am unsure if knocking on doors is really a good way to get more customers for my landscaping business. I keep thinking of getting some door hangers but my husband wants to knock on doors, speak to the people and get customers like that. I am antisocial to be honest, so that's stressing me out, just being honest. Sometimes he tells me to knock on one side of the road and he will do the other side. When he sees that I stutter or look nervous, he gets mad at me for it. We just started out, so far we have 10 customers, but we need more to be able to sustain ourselves. This is stressing me out, the door knocking, the getting the door closed at my face, the mean faces on people when they open the door, the comments like "whatcha want?" What are ways to promote my business without door knocking? Or how can I be less nervous and just talk to people when I knock on their doors? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 13 Dec 2021 10:09 PM PST I've recently started using Rakuten and became interested in how they work. Obviously they allow access to a handful of sites and have some sort of (I am guessing) affiliate network thing going on where they keep a cut from the sale and hand over the rest to the end user? But how do they negotiate those deals? [link] [comments] |
