Back door Roth plans if BBB hasn’t yet passed on January 1 Posted: 12 Dec 2021 10:13 AM PST The Build Back Better bill, which is currently in the Senate, would eliminate back door Roth IRAs from January 1, 2022 on. There's a real scenario that it could pass, but just after January 1. In the scenario that the bill passed in late January or later, what about people who did a back door Roth IRA on January 1 or 2? The current text of the bill states January 1, 2022 as the date from which Roth conversions would end. For that to be pushed to 2023 or later, the bill's text would have to be amended. Do you think that they will amend it to push it to apply one year later? Do you have any examples of similar scenarios for retroactive tax laws like this? What are your personal plans (if you would normally do a back door Roth IRA on January 1)? [link] [comments] |

Geographic arbitrage and barista FIRE Posted: 12 Dec 2021 10:06 AM PST I used to work a second job at Amazon to make extra money with my spare time. It was an easy enough job and a nice break from the "thinking" work of my FT career. I could see myself working a job like that for the first few years of retirement, barista FIRE style. One interesting quirk I've been thinking about: Amazon's $15/hr minimum wage. At the time, it didn't mean much to me since the minimum wage of my HCOL city was also $15/hr (and, contrary to Amazon's advertising, they only paid minimum wage in my city,) but I don't plan on retiring in a HCOL area. What are some thoughts on barista FIRE in a LCOL area, specifically working for a company with a national "minimum wage" substantially higher than the local minimum wage? [link] [comments] |
