    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 04:09 PM PST

Hello! I'm a first year in audit at a big 4 firm. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on maintaining (as much as possible) a long-term romantic relationship and close friendships when things get really busy!

Advice on Apartment Hunting for New Associates

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 07:37 PM PST

New college grad here about to start at a midsized accounting firm. Since we most likely will be remote - I'm looking to find a reasonable apartment but it's a struggle. I'm trying to keep rent below the 25% of gross income mark. Would you happen to have any advice on how to good apartments or do all of them just overpriced and just suck?

How likely is it for a Canadian Accountant to be sponsored to work in the US?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 06:42 PM PST

I'm a Canadian accountant (without CPA, recent grad) wanting to work in the US.

How are my chances of ever being sponsored for a green card with an American employer?

I was hoping to work and get my CPA in the US to possibly increase my chances, not sure if I should get my Canadian CPA first?

Is a TN visa to H1B the best chance I've got?

Are American employers even looking at Canadian accountants? I'm sure this is an over-saturated field as is

Tl;dr How good are my chances of ever getting an employment based green card as a Canadian accountant?

    Private vs Public Clients

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 07:57 PM PST

Started work at B4 a few months ago. Been working on a public client the whole time. Not terrible hours so far. I switch onto a private client tomorrow. Everyone makes it seem like private clients are a breeze and there is much less to do? is there any truth to this? hoping to cruise through December before jumping back on a different public job for busy season

Is there a simple formula/equation for double-declining depreciation? The concept is simple but my textbook way over complicates it (a common theme in accounting!). Thank you.

    Quit Tax Manager Job

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 07:24 PM PST

Hi all, so i quit my job without having another job lined up. I know I'll find another position quickly and have savings to last me for a while but I feel very guilty about leaving them just before the tax season. I did it because if I stayed another tax season, my mental health would be fkced worse than it is now. Like i'm losing sleep, my anxiety is thru the roof, lost weight, my relationship with my family is getting damaged etc. I don't think I can do this for another tax season. Past 3 years have been rough to say the least, which I'm sure many of you will agree. The issue is with the tax season interns, we carried the tax returns for individuals and trusts. I reviewed like 95% of the returns going out. The partners had plenty of chances to find another tax person but they just never did. It may be because I was always available working avg of 70+ hours from February to early April and said yes to whatever they asked. Stay until 11PM when I come in around 7:30AM? sure. Come in Sundays? of course. Client sends info late, can you fit it into your schedule and review it? why not? What can I do? I don't know how to say no and set boundaries but now I'm burned out. I know yall dont have all the facts but if you were in my shoes and feeling highly burned out, would you also quit? I guess I'm looking for other CPAs points of view. Would you feel resentment if your co-worked/employee left a month before tax season? Thanks for any inputs. JR.

    How to start out

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 05:08 PM PST

So I am transitioning from the military into the civilian sector. During my time, I've grown fond of personal finance/ledgers, budgets, and so on. I am looking for a way to get into accounting for any company really, but I don't have a degree in finance (I have a masters in an unrelated field). I am also eligible for skillbridge which is essentially a 6 month unpaid internship from the hiring company's eyes. At the conclusion of my skillbridge, I would have a certification in bookkeeping from the local community college. How do I convince a company to take a chance on me for any position related to accounting as I also begin my new degree towards this?

What does this extra number mean?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:49 PM PST

There's a word problem. "Company purchased 2,200 shares of its own $1.40 par value common stock for $125,000 as a result of this transaction, the company's equity is….

    Correct answer: "decreased by $125000."

So I don't understand where does $125000 came from?

I know if the issues common stock is $2,200 times $1.40 par value which it gives $3,080. $125k minus $3,080 is the extra paid in capital.

Is $125k the overall price of the common stock?

Can y'all give me an analogy?

Is like when you buy a clothes that cost $25 and you have to pay sales fee $3. Which is $27.

Is it the same concept with the stock?

    TLR: What does $125k mean.

I do bookkeeping for a living as well so I'm basically trying to figure out if I'll have time to be their sole bookkeeper.

How much of a raise would you need to switch accounting firms?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 03:40 PM PST

Other firms are only offering ~10%. I feel like more is needed to go into the unknown?

Best Way to Burn Sick Days Before Leaving Company

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 03:40 PM PST

    Hi All,

I have about ten sick days I need to use before leaving a company in two months...is there a kosher way of using these days or do I basically have to send out an email to the directors "I will need to be out of office the next two weeks for personal reasons".

FYI, they are paid sick days, but I lose them once I leave.

    CFE FR marking

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 01:25 PM PST

Just putting this out for discussion, but does anyone think the marking for FR on the CFE AO's is the same as in the capstone 2 marking guides?

Just curious of everyone's thoughts…I feel like I probably missed stuff as I feel some of my answers weren't as good to meet the cap 2 guides…

Waiting for Friday results is killing me..can't believe a program can cause me this much anxiety :/

Acceptable for first year associate to negotiate salary?

    Posted: 28 Nov 2021 09:31 PM PST

Is it acceptable for an incoming first year tax associate to negotiate salary at a top10 firm? Normally I wouldn't think so, but this job market makes me think it's worth a shot. Is 12% higher a reasonable amount to ask for?
