Posted: 02 Oct 2021 03:47 PM PDT I work in a smaller firm and we are required to record our time. If we do not meet 8 hours on a single day we have to charge the company with miscellaneous time. If you have less than 40 hrs per week in a pay period the manger calls you and ridicules you. Forcing me to take unpaid time off. It might just be an hour or two but that comes out of my paycheck. This is not a Salary this means they're paying me an hourly rate and are punishing me for them not having enough work to give me. I give up this is fucking ridiculous. I've given up my last passions in life at this point and barely recognize myself but if this is the CPA path I'm fucking out. [link] [comments]

What music do you listen to while working? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 12:59 PM PDT Just curious, personally I've been listening to the album Wlfgrl - Machine Girl. Something about the crazy and stimulating beats keeps me focused while doing some sometimes mind numbing work [link] [comments]
Would I come across as a prick if I wear a suit everyday as an auditor? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:18 AM PDT I like wearing a suit and tie but it seems like it's been dying out even in the Big 4 Edit: I'd like to know specifically for Australia (Melbourne). I've seen accountants wearing suits on trains here so I'm just wondering. It seems America has a casual fashion dress code. I appreciate the input but ffs I'm getting dissed by every American under the sun [link] [comments]

Have any of you missed a deadline before? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 10:47 AM PDT Closing in on the 10/15 extension deadline and I was curious… Any of you have any interesting stories about your office not hitting deadlines? Of course, I assume that the company wasn't rewarded with the usual pizza party bonus but aside from that, what happened? [link] [comments]

Fund accountant job out of college Posted: 02 Oct 2021 06:27 PM PDT I just accepted an offer of 60k for a "mutual fund accountant" position at a very large bank. The job description states I would be "maintaining the GL records of mutual funds, producing end of day NAV calculations, bank cash recons" and various other functions. Does this sound like a solid start right out college in terms of experience as well as pay or will I find myself being pigeon holed quickly? I am also studying for the CPA and was wondering if that would help with any exit opportunities if I do move forward with this job. [link] [comments]
I hate duel factor authentication Posted: 02 Oct 2021 08:28 AM PDT Once upon a time, man walked the earth without computers, and in those days clients had to mail their bank statements to their accountants. Then, a light emerged in the image of online banking. Instead of having to wait for statements to be mailed you could just ask the client for their login and retrieve them yourself. But a darkness was on the horizon... I hate duel factor authentication. It make me furious that it takes me significantly longer to retrieve bank statements from banks that use it than banks that don't. In a normal world, I could just quietly get statements on my own without bothering anyone else. Now? I have to log in, see that ugly notification, find the client's phone number, call them (interrupting whatever work they were involved in), explain to them what I'm doing, and ask them to give me the code over the phone. This all assumes that the phone number they gave the bank is still in use. And forget about getting those statements if they happen to not answer the phone. Then you're stuck sitting on your thumbs until they call you back. And that that point you have to repeat the above while they're on the phone and wondering why they're wasting their time while you try to log in in the background. And the situation is getting worse. Duel factor authentication is becoming more and more common. I suspect it's only a matter of time until banks require its use. I hate hate hate how arbitrarily long it takes to get bank statements from clients who DFA. I might as well just ask them to send them to me over email at this point. [link] [comments]

How to bring up my two weeks notice? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 07:20 PM PDT My boss was away for work at a client's. I know he will be backed up with work and people asking him questions on Monday. Due to his management position and my work schedule, we are usually the first two at the office so we have like an hour or more when we are by ourselves in the office. When he left, he pulled me to the side and apologized for leaving. Pretty much he knew he was leaving me in charge of our eight person department. Not only that, but the other people I work with are lazy and call off when he is off thus leaving me with more work. That and we have new trainees so I am also in charge of them. Well, as was expected, three employees decided to call off on the same days leaving me swamped with work. Friday morning my boss forwarded me a few emails from client's I had yet to respond. Emails had been sent in monday and Tuesday and somehow I missed them. I called the client's and they were pissed off but I was able to please them by offering some discounts on future work. Yeah. I had no other choice. I really dropped the bomb but I was really busy and it was an oversight on my part. Friday night my boss messages me if I am okay and how everything went so I said it all went well. He said good and I will see you Monday. Except that in the week he was gone I made the decision to quit. I was really struggling to keep it together and trying to keep our trainees busy. I was answer calls every five minutes while being swamped with hundreds of emails. I almost had a panic attack.. Then I realized I am getting paid the same as other employees who have a tenth of the responsibility I do. They take constant smoke brakes and spend their time talking to other employees in other departments. I have caught several of them watching football and other stuff in YouTube while I am drowning in work. I cover for everyone but no one covers for me. And so I get backed up and miss emails and what not. Well, after this week I realized this is gonna he me for the next few months as I train our new employees. It's going to be me busting ass and killing myself while others sit there and watch YouTube. After being promised a raise two months ago and being told I am the best employee in the department and reliable...I was excited. That was months ago. No raise. I don't blame my boss but his boss who is a cheapskate. So I thought, screw it. Im out. And I am in the midst of writing my resignation letter. Problem is, not sure how to bring it to my boss. He is a nice guy who also has to struggle with stuff and other bs from upper management. He has told me that if I leave he does not know what he is going to do. But that means nothing for me. I am quitting. I just don't know how to bring it out to him on his day back when I know he is going to be swamped... How should I bring it up? [link] [comments]
I graduating with my degree but, don’t want to that the CPA Exam Posted: 02 Oct 2021 03:39 PM PDT So I'm graduating in December, but the majority of full time jobs I see basically are asking if I have 150 credits(which I do) to take the exam. How successful can I be as an accountant without it? What are audit staff 1 and 2s getting paid in Charlotte? B4 vs rest? Posted: 02 Oct 2021 04:39 PM PDT Assuming starting is much higher given recent raises but still confused about how Charlotte is treated because I've seen it called low middle cost or even low cost of living, despite the fact that rent here is insane.
