Water damage clarification on Homeowner's policy Posted: 31 Aug 2021 05:11 PM PDT After the freeze in Texas many found out their homeowner's insurance had a 5k limit on bursted pipes or no coverage at all. I finally got a copy of mine. Am I correct that I would be fully covered as long as I turn off the water if the heat goes out? Keeping the water dripping while our power was out kept our pipes from freezing, a bit confusing but looks like no exclusion. We insure for sudden and accidental direct physical loss to property described in Coverages A and B. However, we do not insure for loss:
a. Freezing of a plumbing, heating, air conditioning or automatic fire protective sprinkler system or of a household appliance, or by discharge, leakage or overflow from within the system or appliance caused by freezing. This exclusion does not apply if you have used reasonable care to:
However, if the building is protected by an automatic fire protective sprinkler system, you must use reasonable care to continue the water supply and maintain heat in the building for coverage to apply. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 06:56 PM PDT I'm moving from Canada to UK and I want to buy travel insurance, purely to cover my baggage if nothing else as I am taking nine years of my life with me. Organisations like True Traveller and World Nomad seem to offer options that I can make work but I'm so nervous and confused about this that I just don't know what to do. With World Nomad, for example, I have to put Canada as my country of permanent residence in order to get cover for a trip that goes to the UK. I can't say the UK is my country of permanent residence (even though it will be) because that is also my final destination. Any advice is greatly appreciated or if you can recommend me a insurance company that works for something like this. I leave on Thursday September 2nd so time is very much of the essence. Thank you! Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:56 PM PDT Long story short someone totaled my car and they purchased the car privately and never insured it. The original car owner's insurance is denying it. My insurance (Farmers) is telling me my only option at this point is to pursue the opposing party in small claims court. 1) My deductible is $1,000. A lawyer is probably going to be more than that? 2) My insurance agent mentioned out of pocket expenses - rental car, damages, etc that I don't have a policy for (I do no have rental car insurance) their insurance would cover. This was BEFORE the previous owners insurance denied the claim 3) My golf clubs were stolen. Idk from who - tow driver, tow yard, idk. I was hoping to recoup this in 'damages' but farmers told me they wouldn't cover it. Can I take that to small claims, as well as my rental car, deductible, etc. So it would probable be closer to $4,000? 4) I've recently started getting pretty rough TMJ. I'm not trying to milk anything, but I have a doctor's appt scheduled 3 weeks from now incase it doesn't go away. Do injuries need to be diagnosed right away? The pain started around the time, and I thought it was just sore, but it hasn't gone away (3 or so weeks by now) 5) What happens if I go to small claims, win, and he simply can't pay it back or something? I should probably ask my people these questions tomorrow. But they've got my head in a circle. Talking to an adjustor. A claims lady. A financial person. A co-insurance coordinator. I don't even know who to ask. They all say ask X lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Sep 2021 01:40 AM PDT on 8/26 at 1am, i was washing dishes and getting ready to sleep when BOOM my car was hit by a young military service member, my car was legally parked on a well lighted street (i live in a school zone) both cars had to be towed, police came and made a report, 8 hours later (as soon as they opened) i called my insurance and was instructed to take the info i had from the police and file a claim with the insurance of the person who hit my car. i immediately did so, the next day i was approved for a rental, and my car was moved to a geico affiliate awaiting inspection (currently scheduled for september 2nd). i know i will be low balled for the 1st settlement offer, does anyone have advice on how to negotiate this type of accident? the damage seemed to be extensive, i know my rear driverside wheel assembly was detached an many ways as it was oriented perpendicular to the other 3 wheels of the car, but i am otherwise unable to guess if that would be repairable. i think the side panel and driver door damage otherwise would be repairable. furthermore, he was not breathalyzered nor otherwise checked for intoxication, but there was alcohol in his car. he said it had hit the front windshield and burst open. i don't know one way or the other if that is relevant, but it unnerved me. these are the tips i have found so far 1) do not give ssn 2) do not accept 1st offer 3) do not allow them to 'bully' me into signing or not contacting a lawyer 4) do not sign anything without understanding it fully 5) get all settlement offers in writing 6) do not comment about my injuries or medical status on a recorded line (i was not in car so maybe this isnt applicable) anyone have corrections or additions? Auto Insurance Claim: Should I let auto body shop work with my insurance? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 11:07 PM PDT I ran off the road into some bushes that caused the car quite a bit of damage. Should I let the auto body shop negotiate and get the payment from insurance or is it always better for me to work with my insurance and request to receive the check and then I pay the auto body shop? Any tips are appreciated. The insurance company is all state. TLDR : got into accident. Should I get check from insurance or should I let the auto body shop deal with it ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:45 PM PDT My husband (22) and I (23) just bought a 2014 Chevy Cruze that I need to go to school and occasionally for pleasure. We are looking for car insurance that we will have to pay by ourselves. We are not experts as it would be the first time we take on something like this but we want to be responsible adults. We live in the U.S. but I am foreign so I have no idea how it works here, however, we quickly figured out that everything seems so expensive. What do young adults do to be covered without breaking the bank? We are in need of some serious fatherly\motherly tips here. We recently got a quote from GEICO that was 116 dollars per month, 6 Month Total Premium: $616.23, with my student honors society discount. Is that a lot or does it seem like the best deal we could get? We tried to get quotes from other companies but they were all more than that. TIA [link] [comments] |

Both ground floor. Should I buy the mover's moving insurance policy? Would any damage be covered under a renter's insurance policy? I am literally having the movers move 7 pieces of furniture plus 3 stackable chairs. Nothing that valuable. A QUEEN size mattress and IKEA furniture. I live in California. [link] [comments] |

Allstate Milewise help? Not logging trips. Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:06 PM PDT For the rules, this is in Washington state (US) Hi! I don't normally post, but this has been bugging me for a while and I wanted to see if anyone had any insight. I hope this is the right place for it. Back in late June/early July, my Allstate agent had me sign up for Milewise since I only drive maybe 4 or 5 times a month usually (and not far). The savings sounded great. I waited for my device, installed it, confirmed on the site that it was working (it said it was), all sounded good! But I soon realized there was an issue. The device was supposed to be tracking my trips...and it never has. Not even one day since installing it (and yes, it's still installed and has stayed plugged in) has it logged a single trip. So of course, after waiting a week to see if it just needed to calibrate or catch up or whatever, I talked to my agent. After almost a month of going back and forth and trying this and that and not figuring anything out, I got word from another agent at the same agency, who spoke to the main Allstate people who said "Currently, there is a known issue with Milewise trips not showing on the website and Allstate mobile app. Their trips are not lost, they are just not processing in our system as quickly as they normally would. Our trip processing is backlogged, and we are working to resolve the issue. Once your trips are processed, they will display on the website and mobile app, and they will see the mileage charge." So...even today, like 20 days after THAT email, still nothing logged. Nothing beyond the daily fee being taken out of the account as far as I can tell. Like...it SOUNDS like it's supposed to be okay, but I have so much anxiety about something going wrong with this. I haven't gotten any emails from Allstate about the device not working or anything like one would expect would happen in that case, so perhaps it is just...this bad of a backlog? A 2+ month backlog? But how is that okay? I just don't know. I'm sorry for the ramble. I guess I just want to know if other people are experiencing this, if there's anything else I need to do besides save all the emails where I tell my agent all about this issue and am told in the end it's fine, etc. Just any advice or anything. I really want this to just work right so I can stop freaking out about it. I just don't trust it and regret leaving my old policy because even if my old policy was super expensive at least it wasn't in my head all the time. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:23 PM PDT I live in the USA. I am in a position where my future spouse will be a doctor (making doctor money) and I may be making many times less than them. Is there insurance that would cover my future family/future kids should my SO lose their ability to earn the salary they had been? Example, if they had a stroke or other medical condition where they were still alive and well, but could not be a physician anymore. Not sure if this type of insurance exists but thanks for any advice! [link] [comments] |
What constitutes a total loss? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 08:22 PM PDT I was involved in an accident - a minor one, no injuries, but the damage is more substantial than I oroginally thought. I was guessing $5K or so, it's double that. Damage is to front end, driver door, hood, passenger door, wheel, wheel alignment etc. Quoted $9,700 for the repairs, vehicle is a 2018 Mazda CX5 60K miles, so I'd estimate the value about $20K Is insurance going to repair or replace? What am I best off taking? I love the car, but worried about both the prospects of owning long term now after this, as well as the fact that I don't necessarily want to buy a car right now given the prices... Got hit by a driver that was drifting, on a side street the driver gave an expired policy Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:13 AM PDT I got hit last night coming home from the store on my Ebike, I was going straight about to stop at a stop sign and this guy in a red mustang drifts onto the side street and hits me, theres witnesses everywhere that can confirm I was not at fault and he was driving recklessly. The driver gave the police an expired insurance policy and i called his insurance and they told me there's nothing they can do as the driver had no active policy. My bike is pretty much destroyed. What can I do? [link] [comments] |

Replacing Roof - Get Insurance Involved? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 09:12 AM PDT Our roof is 30 years old, in decent-ish shape considering the age but we know it's on a time limit and would like to replace on our own time before a bigger problem makes it an emergency. We have four different quotes, ranging from $18,000 to $28,000. We considered doing a layover but decided to just do it "right" and do a full tearoff and replace. Two of the contractors were really, really pushing insurance to get involved. They mentioned we have 4-5 spots on the roof where we have "zipperlift," i.e. wind damage and inferred that insurance could pay for some/most of the cost of replacement. We talked to our insurance agent who is a family friend and I do trust. He was a bit hesitant as he said in our claim we have to indicate the date at which each instance of roof damage occurred, which we obviously don't know because we don't check out our roof after every wind storm. If they occurred on different dates they are processed as individual claims so we would want to say they all happened on the same date, which will raise some eyebrows. He said we can certainly request a claim but there's no guarantee they would pay out given the age of the roof. And he also warned that a "zero payout claim" may still increase our premiums. But at the end of the day he said we can give it a shot but mentioned that insurance companies can be really touchy about roof replacement claims. We do have the money to do this project without insurance, but that is a lot of money for us. Is it worth it to try and get insurance involved? We have Safeco if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance! EDIT: This is in Washington state. [link] [comments] |
How long does it take for an Aetna hospital indemnity claim to process? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 04:37 PM PDT I've been waiting for 7 business days now, just wondering what could be taking so long. I uploaded documents that had more than enough info on them and my claim is still processing. The way they advertise this, they plan for patients to have the money while they're in the hospital. Has anyone filed a claim through them, if so, how long did it take to process? [link] [comments] |
I run an e-commerce pottery/art business out of my home. What kind of insurance makes sense for me? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:05 PM PDT My am newly self-employed and my business is small but I want to make sure I am being proactive. What kind of insurance policy/policies would be best for someone in my position and are there any things I am not thinking of? I currently sell functional pottery- meaning people will use the items in various ways for eating, drinking, and for incense and other various uses. I sell exclusively online and will be adding art prints and sculptures soon to my Shopify shop. I am a sole proprietor and the only one working and I do not do any visits in my studio. Located in Massachusetts. I want to protect myself in the following ways:
I see so many options - general liability, product liability, e-commerce, disability… is there a type of insurance that makes the most sense for me? THANK YOU! [link] [comments] |
How to lower rates after traffic violations? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 03:00 PM PDT I received 2 moving traffic violations over the course of 2 years. Incident one was going 10 over the speed limit, the other was for not coming to a complete stop at stop sign. The tickets weren't that's expensive. However my insurance rates have gone up substantially since the second offense (nearly $600 a year.) Both incidents happened while driving through Nevada which isn't my home state. I plead guilty by paying both tickets which I would have fought if the court wasn't over 1000 miles away from my residence. While although I don't have any points off my own license since my home state doesn't have a point system, my insurance company (USAA) found out and said I have "2 points" against me. This most recent of these events happened nearly 2 years ago. What can I do to have this scrubbed from my record? Will the penalty of this ever go away? Can I take a class to fix this? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Obtaining a Texas property and casualty license , with an old felony? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 10:57 AM PDT I am interested in gettin licensed to sell insurance in Texas. I have researched test exam prep, testing, and fingerprints. The question I have is can I get licensed with an old felony??? It's a state jail felony theft charge that I got in 2007. The disposition is around 11 years old. All input is appreciated!!! Thanks [link] [comments] |
The best process for filing a claim Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:59 PM PDT My drive back and forth to work had a lot of road construction for the past 6 months. The company doing the work did not sweep up the road so many people had cracks in their windshield. I have six cracks. They have a claim that you can fill out to get reimbursed for the repair/replacement. It does ask if you have insurance. My question is, which is the best way to go about this? Should I get it fixed on my own and then claim with the road company? File it with my insurance, pay the deductible and then the claim for reimbursement? Try to go straight through the road company? Something other that I'm not thinking about? Thank you in advance! [link] [comments] |
How does gap insurance on leased vehicle ever make sense? Posted: 31 Aug 2021 01:57 PM PDT Agreed upon value of new vehicle according to lease is $25k. MSRP is $27k. Lease is 36 monthly payments of $300 36*$300=$10,800 No matter the depreciation, I don't see how the value of the vehicle would ever be less than $10,800. Car gets totaled (true story) after five months so amount owed on lease is $9,300. There's no way my five month old car is worth that little. I have gap insurance, so not concerned, but I don't understand the math of what purpose it serves? What am I missing? [link] [comments] |
Car insurance refuses to send adjuster unless.... Posted: 31 Aug 2021 07:32 AM PDT Was in accident about 10 days ago, the other driver was 100% at fault which their insurance (liberty mutual) fully admitted. Car got towed to nearby body shop after accident where it is now. Shop owner thinks it should be totaled due to extensive damage (is not drivable). At first the insurance agent told us they would send adjuster to look at it. Than a week later they told us "we are unable to send adjuster to inspect the car, you have to take it to one of our approved shops for inspection". I looked up the shops they work with and all are quite a distance from us, and honestly most look really bad and I would not trust to take our car there. Its our first time dealing with this, could use some advice. Was hoping to avoid getting lawyer involved but it looks they are not dealing in good faith. Also, should we call our insurance(geico), and tell them the other insurance is not helpful? Also this is in Miami, Florida. [link] [comments] |
I was backed into 2 days ago at a gas station out of state. Posted: 31 Aug 2021 12:58 PM PDT 2 days ago I was backed into by about a 76 year old man in my brand new 21 Charger too :(. It didn't hurt it too bad cause I was able to just barely get around but it's scratched up good in one spot and seems a little dented on this one part. I pulled out, was going to leave but then the guy went while I was already out of the spot and moving, i stopped before I got hit, then he stopped and sat there for a second I was heading to an event so I was like I guess I'll go since he stopped. Well that was a mistake, I was scraped a little bit. The guy I don't think noticed cause he left but I managed to get his plate. Had a cop come out, he wrote a report or however that works I gave him the plate. I have the report number I believe tomorrow they said I should call and see from there. Was it my fault? And Will my car get fixed 100% free? [link] [comments] |
