What do you guys recommend she do? As someone's SO, I am absolutely terrified of this. She took out loans to support her family, and she is not great with money and always gives her family money before paying off her debt. This is going to cause an issue with our relationship, but I just want to know what she can do.

    Rent inclusion in Student Loan

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 01:52 AM PDT

Can a upcoming student include living and stationery expense in student loans ?

The location that I am targeting in US has 1200 $ average rent which is high.

Do loans have a provision to include rent and living expenses with a parent as the guarantor ?
What are the bank's terms and conditions?

    And if no, then

How does the average middle class Indian; make way to live conveniently while studying in the US?

28 years old, 147K student loans. Should I move back in with my parents?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:13 PM PDT

I have a lot of regret in my life which hinders me from making big decisions, so I am here to see what you all think.

I'm 28, have 147K in student loan debt (currently down to about 30K left once I pay a massive lump sum at the end of the pandemic freeze) and I'm wondering if I should move back in with my parents to make things move a little quicker / easier financially? I currently have a studio apt. of my own (that I love) and the monthly rent/ living expenses comes to about $850 a month. I take home anywhere from about $3000-$3500 a month. it fluctuates a bit.

I am desperate to pay off my loans before I am 30 (Dec. 2022) because they mentally and emotionally took so much away from my 20's. I want to move on and start fresh. I feel like it may make sense to move in with my folks, pay off my debt quicker, then build my money back up for a year and then move out and move on.

The relationship with my parents is a little rocky but it's on the better side of things now. I also recently got a part time job but it requires getting up at 4am and is pretty draining. It feels like if I moved in with my parents I could ditch the part time job and put that extra money from my living expenses to my debt.

If anyone has any advice or was in a similar situation, I'd appreciate any responses.

Thanks for reading and your time.

    My loans have disappeared?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:49 PM PDT

I recently switched from Fedloan to Navient and applied for IBR. I haven't been paying anything toward my loans during the payment and interest freeze, so I logged in today just to check my balance. And my loans have completely disappeared?? I have a $0 balance and when I looked under "repayment options" I was taken to a screen that said my loans had been paid.

I haven't gotten anything in the mail saying that my loans have been forgiven, and as far as I know I haven't qualified for any of the recent forgiveness programs. I'm thinking it's probably a glitch or an administrative mistake. Has this happened to anyone else?

Suggestions on Consolidation and Refinancing? $30200 in debt.

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 05:30 PM PDT

Hi, so I'm 2 years post graduation and before the pandemic I made next to nothing money so I was using the income based deferment. Then with the freezes from Covid I haven't started to pay at all yet, even with a full-time salaried job. I got my life in order in pretty much every way except these damned student loans. I pretty much want to consolidate my two different loans, my federal and one private loan through Sallie Mae (due to an error with my federal loans I needed the money asap) and just make one payment and wanna just consolidate it.

I mostly want suggestions for the best route to go because I live alone and while I make enough to cover my bill now, when the freezer ends I'm going to be screwed until my partner finishes paying his loans and moves here mid next year. Any advice on companies to go through and the best way to do this? Any advice helps.

Request for Information Regarding the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

Can see Great Lakes loan information on FSA website, but no Great Lakes account?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:20 PM PDT

    Hi all.

My fiancee and I plan to start aggressively paying down her student loans after we get married next month. We have a set amount that we plan on paying and want to set up autopay with her loan servicer (Great Lakes).

We can see all of her loan info on studentaid.gov but when we tried to log in to the Great Lakes website, it doesn't look like she has an account. We searched her SSN and it didn't find any existing account.

From my understanding, it is beyond doubt that Great Lakes has all of this information somewhere. If we create a new account for her, will Great Lakes be able to pull her loan information into the new account? I'm not privy to how it was set up originally, and her parents have been very unhelpful with information on this stuff in the past so we would like to avoid asking them for any help navigating this.

    GoChanged legit?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 07:13 PM PDT

Hey all. Just saw an ad for gochanged.com. I guess it was on shark tank at one point? Long story short from what I'm understanding, it's kind of like acorns. You link your credit/debit cards and the total is rounded up to the next dollar and that change is put into a fund. At a certain point they deposit that fund directly onto your student loans. I was just wondering if anyone has used this company and if you even think it is worth it?

Worried that my credit score may be messed up due to a late payment

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 06:15 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I missed a Discover Loan by 5 days because unbeknownst to me, my grandmother who was helping me pay it took her credit card off.

I'm super worried that my credit score will be effected. Will it be affected if I only missed it by 5 days?

    Thank you very much

    Coping with student loan burden

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 12:26 PM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I am a 28/M living in CA. I've been dealing with the burden of my SL for the past 3 years and each day, the weight seems to get heavier despite the progress I continue to make.

I currently have 75,712 in SL. I have managed to save 32k for payment toward my debt. This number will increase to 42k by the time the forbearance pause is lifted.

I currently make 70k with my civilian job but that is on hold due to my current enlistment with the Air Force. With the Air Force, I currently make around 50k a year.

I've managed to pay down all of my debts including car, credit cards ect. The only one left is my SL. The majority of what I earn a month goes toward paying down this loan.

Despite the progress I make, each day, I feel burdened by the loan in that if I didn't have it, I'd be in a better position in my life to start a family, which is my goal. Because I desire this, I throw what I can at my SL to pay it off quickly. This of course results in a pretty mundane life. No going out, no vacations, no dating, ect.

What I'm hoping to get out of this post is some advice from you all on how to endure through the pain of living on nothing to expeditiously pay off my loan so I can start living the life that I thought I was working hard to create.

For those who have paid off their loans, especially those that did it own their own. What were the kinds of things you did to endure through the process?

Navient - Payments Not Applied Correctly?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 02:12 PM PDT

I noticed my student loans don't seem to be going down as fast as I thought they would, but when I am looking at my principal and interest payments, they don't include the balance. All I can see is the balance as of today. Last month I took a screen shot of the loan amount after my payment and then after this month's payment, I subtracted the principal amount from the loan amount and it's not correct. My balance should have gone down by $400 odd and instead it only went down by ~ $200. This makes me suspicious that they haven't been processing my payments correctly, but I have no proof because there is no record of my historical balance. Am I missing something?

How can I return a private student loan that I don't need anymore?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 12:58 PM PDT

I recently was granted a scholarship that will cover my tuition plus living expenses. I no longer need a private student loan (College Ave) that I requested a couple of weeks ago. Should I pay the money back as soon I receive it? Or there is any way I can cancel the reimbursement before it happens?

I want to avoid unnecessary fees and penalizations to my credit score (and my cosigner credit score too)

    Thank you in advance

Are long-term capital gains included in IBR-PAYE calculation?

If long-term investments are sold, do the capital gains from that sale get included in the number that's used to calculate your payment under PAYE?
