Is anyone else still working from and losing their mind?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 12:32 PM PDT

I cannot live like this anymore. I am losing my mind working from home as an auditor everyday. Clients don't answer our calls or emails, staff doesn't know what they are doing, mangers don't get it. I know I could just quit but I honestly thought we would be at a hybrid by now. This life is not sustainable and my firm doesn't give a shit.

TFW half your department quit but management is not even looking to replace them

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 03:46 PM PDT

The day I get out of audit is going to be absolutely fucking glorious.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:50 AM PDT

Shitty clients. Lazy clients. Lazy clients who don't know shit. I'm so fucking sick of it.

I actually like accounting. I also like understanding what it is I'm doing.

Audit has made me detest accounting. I spend 75% of my time trying to fix errors clients have made that are the result of half assing their work and not reviewing it. The other 25% is spent trying to understand shitty accounting systems that people who have been at the client 20 years are either too dumb to understand, don't care, or both. I'm so tired of it.

If you actually enjoy auditing, hats off to you. You're fucking weird. I can't wait to be out.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

EDIT: Got a call from my prospective employer today. Putting my two weeks in Friday. Fuck it, let's go boys!!!

    Covid in the office

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 07:04 PM PDT

    Ruh Roy scooby.

We were home for 12 months and have been hybrid for the last 6. Most of us are responsible vaccinated adults.

A new hire who I found out is an antivaxxer (in another dept within shared services) came into the office knowing they were potentially exposed as a family member was awaiting test results. Results came back later in the day yesterday as positive.

Now a person they work closely with who is not vaccinated for medical reasons they claim, is now sick, and potentially has covid and is awaiting results. This person is high risk and older.

I can't wait to see how this will play out. Person who is sick supposedly told their supervisor when they called in today that if they are positive and get sicker they plan on suing the organization. Cue the popcorn. Hope they get better soon.

The struggle was real and now it's over! Hours of work, OT banked, CPA classes, Mods, and the studying for the exam. Let's hope we don't have to retake in May

[CAN] CFE is over ! Let's celebrate the end of our student lives.

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 02:02 PM PDT

With the end of the CFE today, this marks the last day of my student life like probably most of you guys that did the CFE this week.

I feel relieved that it's all finally over, well I hope I pass the CFE so it really is... It's crazy to think that a month ago I was still in university following zoom classes (i'm in Québec so I decided to follow the CPA program in university) and this week it's all finished.

It's like my adult life can finally begin after all these years studying. I'll be starting a new job the 26th and it's like the first time I will be working a real long-term job and be able to stop worrying about money.

It's also kinda sad that we can't really celebrate the end of this stressful CFE with friends/classmates because of covid and everything.. At least we got reddit to celebrate all together !

I wish you all good luck and success ! Don't stress about the results, I know it's hard but we need to relax for the next few months without thinking about this exam anymore.

    Rant: New Industry Staff Accountant

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 01:21 PM PDT

I left PA and started a new industry role (senior housing). The job sounded nice and easy with training. However, that's not really what I got. The controller and CFO have been here about 6 months and the old ones took most of the process knowledge with them.

We work on Google sheets A LOT of them and a property ERP and everything is interconnected by these very intricate templates made by the old controller. My coworkers are the only ones who know really any of the day-to-day activities and they are busy with their workload so training is a little rough and it seems like there are a million steps to complete everything. Is this normal for you industry folks that have been doing this for a while? Should I look for another gig?

    I Keep Making Mistakes!

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 07:15 PM PDT

I work in Accounts Payable. I actually really enjoy my job. I love working with excel and get excited when my numbers don't reconcile, so I can do some digging to find out what happened.

But I do make a lot of careless mistakes. My boss told me that I'm a "Button-Pusher", or that I go through the motions without actually thinking about the data in front of me. And she was absolutely right. I'm constantly told to slow down and analyze things more carefully. I do tend to get ancy if I feel like I'm falling behind, which may cause my work to suffer.

I've been put on a permormance improvement plan. I have four weeks to show Improvement, and they are giving me one last close to show them what I got. I have been improving, but I still let these mistakes in from time to time.

For example, today. I had to enter some payments manually into our book keeping system that were made to the vendors on their website for the day. I accidentally left off the period on the payment and over-posted the payment by almost 700k. It was an easy fix, but leadership was understandably upset, saying that it looks bad on the books to see large amounts get erroneously entered like that.

I recommit all the time to hunker down on the details to avoid mistakes, reclass JEs and so forth but still tend to fall back to my old habits Does any one have any tips or tricks they use to stay focused and ensure proper analyzation of their data? I really do love my job, and really hope they don't can my ass! Thanks.

Possible to write CFE in Sep 2023 without a masters or GDip if I complete my undergrad with the accounting prerequisites in may 2022? [CAN]

[CAN] CFE - does anyone know what will they do to exam booklets after the exam?

    Posted: 15 Sep 2021 05:42 PM PDT

Well I doodled on the booklet and lol I just don't want people to see them… I also wrote a huge "I'm done with this shit" on the question booklet ….Will the exam proctors check the content of the booklet? And report to CPA that I damaged their property? I know it's stupid and shouldn't do it but I was too stressed
