    Removing False Google Business Review

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:02 PM PDT

I run a small Web Development business and received a random 3 Star Google Rating from someone who has never been a client of mine (or that I have even ever interacted with)

I have Flagged it and also sent an email to support further explaining.

Doing a quick Google Search shows that this person is from the same city and offers the same services that I do. Also by clicking their name, it looks like they have a ton of random 3 Star ratings to people with no actual review.

What else could/should be done to get this removed?
Should I reply to it stating that this isn't a client, or wait until the Flagging is reviewed?

Managing life as a business owner

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 04:55 PM PDT

Hey all I'm in my mid 30s, have two children, a vacation home, and run two separate businesses. One with 5 employees and another with about 15.

What do you all do to manage your life projects and to do? I have countless projects at home and work that are just too much anymore for me to keep mentally straight. So lately, I've essentially just been managing them by the "squeaky wheel" method instead.

I have everything from needing to find and vet contractors to paint my house and replace my deck, to working with the local post office to determine where to put mailboxes at a real estate development. Not all items are mine to do exactly, some are tasks my employees need to do, but it's still important I stay on top of them so things don't fall behind.

What are those of you out there that are super busy with a wide variety of projects and tasks doing to keep them straight?

    Use of rental yield calculator

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:51 AM PDT

To calculate the rental yield on a property we can use this simple formula:

Rental yield = (Monthly rental income x 12) ÷ Property value

    Small business labor shortages

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 02:51 PM PDT

How is your small business handling the labor shortage?

Have you made any changes to recruiting (other than the obvious of more money)?

Have you had to merge roles to make up for the labor shortage?

Any tips and tricks you can share with me as I'm looking to hire 2-3 office staff (operations manager, customer co-ordiantor and potentially receptionist)

POD clothing question. One price for items (e.g. $20 for all sizes, say XS through 3XL) or variable price depending on clothing size? Pros and cons?

    Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:16 AM PDT

One obvious reason against a fixed price is you make more on smaller sizes and less on bigger sizes.

    Yelp Reviews

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:11 PM PDT

My business is listed on Yelp and there is one one star review that is recommended by Yelp and 6 five star reviews that's are in not recommended showing 5-stars, at this point I'm just debating if I should change the name to not be associated with my business, I don't think there is anyway to get the non recommended reviews to recommended to increase the 1-star score..has anyone dealt with this for their small business?

Should I get an Accountant or CPA to start an LLC?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:48 AM PDT

So, I recently got really into mining and spent 10s of thousands on hardware costs this year, as well as bought a house, followed by expensive modifications to said houses electrical systems to support mining operations. The house happens to also be my residence now but its primary reason for purchase was to serve as a building for a mining operation. I also happen to be employed separately as well. I'm thinking I should start an LLC for tax purposes as a small business owner/sole proprietorship, so i can deduct startup costs and potentially get a tax break on the portion of my home dedicated to mining via "renting space" to the LLC. I'd be interested in digging into Section 179 depreciation rules as well as filing as an "S Corporation" if i can qualify for that.

If i was going to pursue becoming an LLC and reducing tax costs on the new house and small business, which type of professional would best be suited to assisting me with everything from creating the business itself to providing a strategy to reduce tax costs to filing the taxes themselves on my behalf? Additionally, what sort of pitfalls should I be wary of in this process?
A CPA? A Tax Accountant? A Financial Advisor?

    Ordering Keychains

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:23 PM PDT

Hi friends! I'm getting ready to launch my small business and I want to have keychains to sell at some point in the future! I was wondering if anyone has some good suggestions on retailers? I've been trying to do research but I'd also like opinions from people who have had personal experiences as well!

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Edit: just to clarify: which retailers/companies do ya'll suggest I order custom keychains from? I'd like personal experiences to contribute, please. (for example: should I use stickermule or does anyone have more reliable suggestions?)

Best e-commerce art printing platform that provides ICC Proofing Profiles?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 01:21 PM PDT

My partner is looking to sell their photographs on an e-commerce printing platform such as Redbubble or Society6. We're looking at several options and considering two aspects: a semi-decent artists profit share and if they provide ICC Proofing Profiles.
Do any companies come to mind?

    Best low-cost ATS in 2021?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 11:00 PM PDT

I'm looking for a low cost applicant tracking system, with affordable and clear pricing.

My company is small (<100 people), so I don't need a complex system. Most of the ATS software I've seen requires talking to a sales team and is more complex than I require.

Are good options available? Or do you just track candidates manually in a spreadsheet or similar.

Strange opportunity landed on my lap... Has liquor license too. Owner refuses to show what's on the books. I'm assuming this is because he didn't pay taxes on most of it's income? Maybe I'm wrong. Wondering what others that took similar opportunities can share.

    Landing page on Shopify

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:26 PM PDT

Hey everyone! I'm currently putting together a landing page for my Shopify. My theme is Debutify. Currently the landing page is pretty basic and boring. I want to make it look professional and eye catching with a large background image, and a field to capture emails. How did you customise your Shopify landing page from boring to BAM!?

Note: my website building skills aren't great - the simpler the answers, the better!

Hey guys for those of you who have a business that has many similar competitors (real estate broekr, mortgage brokers, insurance agwnts, plubmers, electricians, lawn care, etc)

What are you doing to truly differentiate yourself from your competition without being the cheapest options?

What are you doing to delight and go above and beyond for your clients to create referrals?

I know some people who send personalized gifts to clients... Anything else?

[WA State] LLC vs S-Corp for individual entity?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:53 PM PDT

I've had a change in job situation where I'm now doing consulting as an individual for several companies. I'm considering opening a single-owner business entity. I live in Washington State and am leaning toward the S Corp structure.

Two questions, if anyone can shed light from their personal experience:

    1. The S Corp seems to have the lion's share of fiscal advantages for very small businesses, notably the ability to split taxes between the personal and corporate tax rates (rather than "passing through" to personal income which can also incur SS + Medicare withholding). Given that, are there specific fiscal advantages to LLCs that could outweigh this?
    2. Any benefits to domiciling and filing in a different state as a very small business (i.e. Wyoming)? I see this a lot for big businesses ("C Corp in Delaware" etc. etc.) but these seem to be negligible for single-owner companies. But maybe it's worth pursuing.

Thanks for reading, and for any insights you can provide.

Considering buying my inlaws small business. What things do I need to think/worry about if I do? Who else has done this?

    Posted: 29 Aug 2021 09:21 PM PDT

They own an auction that's been in business for nearly 35 years. It's small, currently 1 FT employee and a few PT. I've worked for him FT before and still work auctions on Saturday. I've seen the slow, painful times. The past 4 years have been consistently profitable and hopefully it stays that way.

I know my father in law is starting to think about semi-retirement eventually. He's 61 so I'm thinking this may be the time to start putting together a plan. I'd keep him around for as long as he wants to stay and would prefer to contract him to 3 years so I can learn more things from him. Before anyone says working with family can be tough we've been through that already and got over it.

There's a lot of worry about quitting my secure FT job but I know I could do better in the long run with this business. My wife hasn't said no to the idea even with me telling her we'd go into a nice big debt hole starting off. I'm not new to it, worked for them on and off for quite a few years and still work there PT.

    Advice? Tips? Your story?
