Not at fault for an accident, trying to collect from other driver Posted: 05 Aug 2021 01:22 AM PDT State: Pennsylvania My car was sitting in a parking lot when another driver crashed in to it. He waited for me to come out of the store and gave me his insurance information. I also got a police report. Theres really no dispute that he was at fault. I used to have Allstate insurance. Through them, they never had a hard time collecting from the other driver when I was rear ended in a no fault accident. Now I have Geico. They told me I have the option of filing a claim through his insurance company. I was just so busy, and figured there would be no issue for them to collect my 500 dollar deductible from the other drivers insurance company that I decided to just let them handle it. This has now been going on for a couple weeks and still have no word on whether or not they have gotten his company to release the payment. I cant even get the claims department t to return my calls. They have already sent a check for the damage estimate minus my deductible Given the fact that I was clearly not at fault I dont want to pay my deductible. What should I do? Should I restart the entire process through the other drivers company, or will my company be able to get it for me? [link] [comments] |
At fault driver not picking up calls Posted: 04 Aug 2021 10:50 AM PDT If anyone can point me in the right direction that will be great. A car crashed into my parked car back in April 2021. That car not only hit my car but the car behind me and two cars in front of me as well. The guy was driving a rental(Hertz) and something was wrong with the clutch sticking thus kept crashing into cars. Got a police report, filed a claimed through their insurance(American Alliance). Got denied because the guy would not pick up his insurance's calls and they couldn't confirm the accident. I only have liability so my insurance (state farm) will not be able to cover it. What is my next step? Should I call Hertz? I tried calling american alliance but they are not returning my calls and keeps going to voicemail. Thank you so much. [link] [comments] |
In Louisiana what is the appropriate way to file a complaint against an insurance provider? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:43 PM PDT So after hearing back from my provider they said the water damage was caused by an improper install on the ridge line of the roof (done in 1992 and no water damage, moisture, or roof damage was found in the home in its inspection last year done by a professional agency which specifically inspected both.) After saying I disagree with that finding and would like to submit more evidence and appeal I was told "there isn't any evidence You could submit to change my mind" even after asking if a professional metal roofer and my own independent adjuster disagree with the initial finds she said "no and this judgement is final. I will not be convinced by any evidence of yours you can waste your time and submit but it won't make a difference" I'm livid. At that point I am ashamed to admit I got Heated. She refused to tell me how to appeal, she refused to share wktb me the adjusters report, and refused to transfer me to some who could tell me how to appeal with someone other then her. At fault driving not cooperating Posted: 05 Aug 2021 12:20 AM PDT Hello everyone, I got into my first car accidentally a couple weeks ago. The car I was driving isn't mine, it's under a family member's name and under my father's insurance. The guy that hit me made an unsafe right turn when I was going down the street on a green light. Both of our cars weren't drivable after and had to be towed. I have 3 witnesses and their contact info. Because I wasn't under the insurance policy, my fathers insurance cannot do much to help me. I contacted his insurance and filed a claim a day after the accident. The police who arrived an hour later after the accident didn't make a police report. I also recently lost my phone and I didn't back up the photos so they were lost. I have pictures of his information, but that's it. I've read that I can maybe sue him to get him to maybe cooperate? I have pictures I can take of the crashed car because it was towed to my home. But they're recent pictures so I'm not sure they're valid..? I did completely lose the pictures of the damage to his car. I only have his license plates, passport, insurance info (he's not American), and vin number of his car. His insurance only sent me a document saying they are liable, but that it's not confirmation that they will pay for any repairs etc. What can I do at this point? Thanks. Edit: this happened in Los Angeles, California [link] [comments] |
Pre authorization not obtained by Dr- can I win this? Posted: 05 Aug 2021 04:04 AM PDT Hey insurance Redditors! Question for you all. My son had to visit a major children's hospital out of state (we live in NM, hospital was in IL) but in network with our PPO. He saw an ENT, had an in office nasoendoscopy done, and a speech eval. I called the hospital's pre cert department 2 weeks prior to the appointment to verify that everything was good to go and no pre auth was needed. I was told everything was covered, no pre authorization needed. Well they were definitely wrong. Only the ENT appointment was covered. The speech and scope were denied because no prior authorization was obtained. Its been 3 months since the appointment so i dont think they can retro pre auth now. So now we're stuck with a $2500 bill. I paid part of the bill that we actually are responsible for but I really don't want to pay $2500 when I was told it was covered. Our insurance manual states: participating providers are required to obtain pre authorization on the members behalf; failure to do so may result in denial of provider's claim and the member cannot be balance billed. Has anyone been successful at getting this type of bill absorbed by the provider? I see similar questions to mine online but there is never any follow up so I have no idea if I can actually argue this and win. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2021 08:29 PM PDT First time ER visitor I live in the US Southern California On June 3rd at Midnight I had to go to an ER out of network for crazy heart palpitations and short of breath They got me in did EKG, X-Ray, blood draw with all sorts of blood tests, and kept me until morning. Everything came back pretty much normal and I guess it was just my anxiety exacerbating the heart palpitations (whoops) Anyway. I got a bill that on the top right says "TOTAL AMOUNT DUE UPON RECEIPT" and it's $400. I have HMO Silver insurance which thankfully I think covered most of the bill. The second page lists the service date, invoice #, medical center, and the service description which says "EMERGENCY ROOM SERVICES" However, On the first page under the account number and statement date it says "All Physicians and surgeons including the radiologist pathologist emergency physician anesthesiologist and others will be billed separately for their services" So my question is is this really the full charge of my ER bill or are there other bills to come? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:57 PM PDT Our kitchen was custom wood cabinets from 1975. Every cabinet person I've talked to (no financial interest) has said matching cabinets from 1975 would be impossible. The claim has already dragged on for 5 weeks. My contractor identified cabinets that were greater than 40% difference and suggested uppers needed to be replaced too. Adjuster wants us to use ITEL which has horrible reviews on Google and means even longer waiting to have a functioning kitchen again. This has been the worst insurance experience. What is reasonable and customary? Location: Texas [link] [comments] |
Starting at Freeway Insurance in a week! Posted: 05 Aug 2021 12:16 AM PDT I only got into insurance because I knew there was money in it. I know just as much as the average person in this topic. My silver tongue, I believe, is the only reason I got the job. Mind you I have no prior certificates or license. So for the professionals out there; Is this a career I should start and pursue? Any advice from a Jedi to a Padawan? [link] [comments] |
Diminished Value Question (California) 2021 Tesla with 750 miles Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:59 PM PDT Someone hit our 2021 Tesla with 750 Miles on the odometer. The incident was a hit and run that we caught with sentry mode and have contacted the insurance company of the at-fault driver. The damage is fairly minor, but requires a panel repair and at least 3 panels repainted (about $3000 in damages). But repainting a brand new car basically means it will never be the same again. additionally we took every extra step to make our car pristine full paint correction, PPF and ceramic coating... So we're pretty pissed. I have seen people on here argue against diminished value being valid, but I don't think repainting 4 panels on a literal BRAND NEW car is making us whole fairly. What is the best way we can recoup some of our loss using diminished value? We're willing to take this to court if necessary. [link] [comments] |

Water damage in the laundry room, how should we explain to insurance company? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 02:15 PM PDT My grandparents were getting work done in their house (NJ, USA) and a worker disconnected the water line from the laundry machine. Not aware of this, my grandmother ran a load of laundry and the hardwood floor was subsequently flooded, and it needs to be replaced. They have homeowners insurance and want to file a claim but are not sure if this would be covered. They called a plumber to the house to estimate the cost of repairs, and he suggested they say that there was a sudden leak that caused the flooding and advised against mentioning the disconnected laundry machine line— essentially, he told them to lie to the insurance company, because he doesn't think they would cover it if they knew the truth. My grandparents asked me what they should do in this situation, but I really don't know the first thing about insurance claims and I couldn't find any answers during my research. So my question is, how should they explain the cause of damage to the insurance company? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Will my insurance chase down person at fault for $? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 05:57 PM PDT Hello all! I'm located in QLD, Australia. Last week, an ex partner of mine got drunk, stole my car and crashed it. I've paid my excess and the vehicle has been getting assessed the last few days in regards to whether or not they'll write it off or if it can be repaired. Now, I have a couple of questions because my insurer is taking so long to get back to me & the hold times are too long for me to be waiting while I'm at work. Because my car is still under finance, if the car is written off will the insurance $ go to the finance company to pay off the remainder of my loan? Also, will the insurance company chase down the person responsible to pay for the damages or will they just cover it & leave it at that? I'm so sorry if these are stupid questions! I'm just super confused & getting impatient waiting for my insurer to answer these questions for me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2021 08:19 PM PDT Scenario is in Florida. Driver 1 was driving north on a street(street had 3 lanes, and was on the farthest lane on the right). Driver 2 was driving south on the street and was on a lane which gives him the option to yield, and make a left turn(no stop sign for him or traffic light). I guess driver 2 thought he would make the left turn and went for it and driver 1 didn't see him coming. Driver 1 hit driver 2, and from the impact of first hit, driver 1, hits driver 3 car who was at a stop sign. Public aide came, and originally they were going to give the ticket to the person who was making the left(since Driver 1 had right of way). But then family members of the driver(who were not there) started calling driver 1 a liar and claimed Driver 1 made an illegal u-turn. Driver 1 ask the public aide who was handling the accident to look at the camera from the store in front of us. Not sure what happened when public aide looked at the footage of the camera, but she gave driver 1 a ticket for making an illegal u-turn, and putting driver 1 at fault for the accident. Driver 1 went to the place where public aid saw the video, and after watching the video Driver 1 realized the public aide did not watch the whole video. Public aide watched the video till a different car made an illegal u-turn, and didn't watch the whole video. If she would had, she would had seen the car who made the ilegal u-turn goes inside a plaza, and seconds later you see driver 2 trying to make the left turn, and driver 1 driving north, and never made an illegal uturn like everyone, and the ticket said. Driver 1 immediately recorded the video of the whole incident, but the public aide left(after driver 1 told her to wait for to look at the video, since Driver 1 never made an illegal u-turn). Driver 1 tried to get it amended but no luck. Who would be at fault? Insurance has a copy of the video. [link] [comments] |
Auto insurance-New to all of this Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:17 PM PDT Im 17 male, graduated high school, work as a line cook at a restruant, nevada. I recently bought a 2007 prius and now ive been mulling over getting insurance. For reasons I cant go on my parents plan, so I have to get my own auto insurance plan. And its all very expensive on every well known insurance places( i.e. progressive, gieco, the general, state farm...) All of those are requesting over 3000 on a six month plan. So far allstate has the best deal of 2700 on a six month plan.(of course all of these numbers are rough averages). Now is this my only choice? Do I have to pay this much, is there no other way? For refrence i paid 3000 for the car all these plans are gonna make me pay as much if not more than what i paid for the car. [link] [comments] |
Sold my car..carless for a month. Cancel insurance? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:00 PM PDT Basically the title. I sold my leased car due to the used car shortage since dealers were clamoring to buy me out of a car I hated anyway . I'm going to shop around for a new car. Due to the new car shortage it may take me a little while. Do I cancel my instance for the time? Would there be penalty for a gap in coverage when I insure my be car in a few weeks or a month? Sorry bot, car was registered in Pennsylvania , USA and my residence is there [link] [comments] |
Did I just submit an auto claim and is it going to Carfax? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:24 PM PDT I got a minor paint damage on my car trunk because of garage door. Full story here. I have AAA. I called my claim adjuster to see if my damage is covered under comprehensive or collision coverage. After I described what happened and gotten my answers, he gave me my claim number. Does this mean I've already reported the accident and will this info find its way to Carfax? Or is it only after you go through the repair does it officially become a claim? I only learned about Carfax from a friend after this accident, and it's gotten me a bit paranoid. I keep my car forever, but I don't like bad history either. I called adjuster again to ask if I'm getting a Carfax record. He told me they don't report to Carfax but some repair shops might. I read that Carfax gets is accident reports from just about anywhere they can. I also read that all auto claims get submitted to an external centralized entity that Carfax has access to. Am I overthinking this? I really just want to use my deductible, get repaired and call it a day. I also read that Carfax is phony and shouldn't be taken too seriously. [link] [comments] |

Speeding ticket insurance rate affected by how much Posted: 04 Aug 2021 07:17 PM PDT Just got a speeding ticket, 100% was at fault listed at going 21-25 over. Curious how that will increase my rates with my insurance? I've got a clean driving record otherwise and live in Illinois. I'm 28/29yrs old, My insurance provider is statefarm, I did also just buy a new car a few months back but typically I only pay 70-102$ a month prior to this. I've seen some articles estimate 3-44% increase. [link] [comments] |
Personal Health Information and Health Insurance Posted: 04 Aug 2021 06:49 PM PDT I recently went to an urgent care to get something checked out and since this was a provider I had not seen before I filled out a medical history form. One of the questions was a drug use one that simply asked if you were a drug user with the options of never, occasionally and frequently. Since I've done weed a few times this summer I put occasionally. I am 21 and it is not legal in my state. Is there anyway that this specific information could be shared with my parents insurance and if so would that affect anything? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2021 06:31 PM PDT I'm looking for car insurance and I am wondering if you all think paying $ 155per month is a good deal (I live in SoCal) I am under 25 and have a clean driving record other than two accidents back in 2019/2018? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2021 05:53 PM PDT (California) The process to get my home insured began last week but the agent I'm working with pretty much ghosted me for a few days. After calling enough, I finally got a hold of them and they told me that they were "finishing up" the policy and would have it ready by five. It's almost six, agent's unreachable, that fire is about 30mi north so I'm not sweating too much yet, but I'm stressed. I'm sure the agency's phones are blowing up right now handling claims, so I'm not too mad, but I'm definitely annoyed that the agent's been so difficult to get a hold of and only just got my policy going today (supposedly, I haven't been given anything to sign off on.) I'm definitely not in a high risk fire zone so I doubt that I'm going to get caught in a "do not write new policies" disaster response zone. I also highly doubt that this fire will change direction and clear 30 miles overnight and burn through the towns directly in between (one of which has become a designated evacuation center, so like I said, I feel pretty safe.) But I mean, you literally never know when old wiring will spark a fire, so like. This is incredibly stressful. Been trying to get this damn policy from this person for a week now. Update: I've been informed that I'm unable to get a policy with the carrier I previously had due to the wildfire/brush score (I'm??? I'n an urban area though??? Not even surrounded by grasslands???) I know that these "do not write policy for x zone" rules change according to local fire hazards (former P&C CSM) and considering we didn't have any immediate fires last week, I'm almost certain that this is a very recent change and if the agent had just done the thing last week... So my memory is fuzzy from when I worked in the business but wasn't there a bit in the licensing course about not delaying this sort of thing on clients for this very reason? Should I be considering a lawyer if I can't get coverage and something happens to my house, considering I've got records of beginning this process a week ago and multiple attempts to contact the agent on the policy? At this point I feel like this is largely the fault of the agent telling me they'll get the process started, ghosting me, and then not resuming it all until it was too late. It's not a matter of the application getting caught up in underwriting, either, it's that the agent really just neglected to start the policy until today apparently. [link] [comments] |
My wife's brokerage archway was acquired by broker link this weekend. What can she expect? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 03:32 PM PDT Her current brokerage is a laid back type of environment, she left the company that we both worked for as advisors to join archway as a broker. This happened a few months ago due to our company being too stressful. Now she finds out that this weekend, her new employers were acquired by broker link. Does anyone have experience with working for a company that went through this acquisition? [link] [comments] |
Disability Insurance Exclusions - conflicting info Posted: 04 Aug 2021 11:26 AM PDT Hello all, I am in the process of obtaining long term, "own occupation" disability insurance, and I'm getting conflicting information on the topic of exclusions from two different brokers. If anyone with experience or knowledge on the matter could shed some light, that would be much appreciated. I'm 32, male. I'm generally healthy with a normal BMI, and no chronic health conditions with one exception - I do have a mild case of obstructive sleep apnea (mild per sleep study results) which was diagnosed a couple years ago. The pulmonologist told me that I didn't actually even need to treat it because it was mild, but because I do have issues with sleepiness, I decided to try a couple treatment options including CPAP on and off. One of the insurance brokers I am working with is telling me that I need to get a GSI (Guaranteed Standard Issue) policy because of my sleep apnea - the policy costs more than non-GSI (about $50 per month more at $180 per month compared to about $130 for non-GSI) but my understanding is that my sleep apnea won't be excluded and there's basically no chance I'll be rejected from coverage. This broker mentions that if I apply for a non-GSI policy, my sleep apnea (and any "related issues", whatever that means) will be excluded, or, worse, I may even be rejected from coverage. Another broker is telling me that in his experience, mild cases of sleep apnea are not even excluded from coverage and that he hasn't seen rejections for mild sleep apnea. Given what seems to be conflicting information to me, I'm not sure what route would be best for me. Ideally, I would like to not have to pay ~$50 more per month for a policy that will be in place for hopefully 30+ years. It would be great if I could apply for a couple different policies and see what I get approved/excluded, but my understanding is that you want to avoid situations where you get an exclusion/rejection at all, because then other insurance providers will be able to see that and act based on that knowledge (i.e. reject me or charge higher premiums). So - any insight on who is right? Edit: in response to location bot, I'm in the US, currently living in New Jersey. [link] [comments] |
