I have pics of the vehicle that hit me with license plate info, but we didn't exchange insurance info since it seemed like a nothingburger. Turns out the car steering is messed up big time and I got a quote for $2500 to fix it from Ford. Is it possible to file an accident report and insurance claim now, about six days after the fact?

Employer forgot to cancel my insurance benefits after they laid me off

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:27 PM PDT

I was laid off on January 26, 2021. I was still seeing my doctors after I got laid off and got a different job. I did not get any new health insurance then. I was paying out of pocket for my medical expenses. I would deny having health insurance but would get EOBs at the end of the month from my dr visits. I contacted my old employer and told them, and they finally canceled my insurance. (Though they forgot to cancel my dental still…)

I just received another EOB and I'm not quite sure what to do. I now have insurance and made sure that I was not insured anymore before getting my new health and vision plans off the marketplace.

Is there something I should do? I paid all the bills that were sent to me from my doctors but the EOBs did have benefits given to me due to being insured by the company even though I denied that I was.

I don't want to get into any trouble about the situation. I also don't know if this means I will have to pay more for the appointments I've already paid for. I told people I was uninsured. I contacted the employer about it and they canceled the insurance about 4 months too late. I had no idea I had coverage until recently.

Is there anything that I can do? Can my old employer somehow cause issues for me about this situation?

    I'm located in North Carolina!

Film equipment claim denied because of "Hidden or Latent Defect." What's the strongest argument I can make?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 11:04 AM PDT

Hey everyone, so my cinema camera (Blackmagic Ursa mini 4.6K) recently had one of the SDI video out ports break, in addition to the screen having some flickering issues which I'm not sure is related or not. The camera is about 5 years old and is discontinued, and cannot be repaired by the manufacturer due to it being too old. I'm hoping to get it replaced with a new camera that is "of like kind and quality". I have a film equipment specific policy with Athos Insurance, so I submitted a claim and they denied it based on 3 clauses in the policy:

    1. Mechanical Breakdown (This seems vague, not sure how to interpret this, but since the damage has a specific cause it seems like this wouldn't apply)
    2. Wear and Tear (which I don't believe applies since it was caused by a specific incident, which I will explain below)
    3. Hidden or Latent Defect

The issue was caused by a short that blew out the SDI port. This is a common problem with all cinema cameras that use the SDI standard (almost all) and there are procedures to prevent it from happening. However when it broke and when I submitted the claim, I didn't know that. And I'm pretty certain the adjuster doesn't know that either and so is assuming it is a defect.

I have two questions. What is the actual meaning of Hidden or Latent Defect? Is there any specific language I can use to make a better argument?

And secondly, my thoughts so far are to respond saying I've done additional research, and it looks like this was user error on my part that caused the damage, which should be covered based on my understanding of the policy. Is this the strongest argument I can make?

My policy is based in New York, however the damage occurred in Utah.

    Thanks everyone for any insights!

Car insurance - Help. First time accident, total loss. Full coverage, No GAP

    Posted: 08 May 2021 01:35 AM PDT

CA I was recently got into a car accident where my vehicle was marked as total loss and I was made liable for a small percentage. I was still making payments for this vehicle, but the insurance ended up writing a check paying off the remainder of the loan. My question is, does that mark the closing of my claim, or is there still more? (Like a car replacement or a check)

    Where did copays go?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 02:13 PM PDT

So, I just got a bill from my health insurance (through my employer) for a few hundred dollars. The visit was just to establish a relationship with a new PCP (I moved in Jan) and make sure I could get refills for my prescriptions. I found my doctor through the insurance's "find a provider" system, and I verified with her office.

The bill says the visit was "covered" but paid $0. I used to have this same insurance a few years ago and I remember copays being super reasonable (this isn't even a copay though). Did something systemic happen in the last few years to let insurance companies not pay on "covered" visits?

The same thing happened with my prescriptions (was told I'd have to pay $800/year for a medication I take every day and that was also "covered", though, again, they'd pay $0).

What don't I understand about insurance? I know I'm under my deductible, but I remember it used to be copay up to deductible then nothing...

I'm in Oregon (USA), if that matters.

Florida No Fault insurance (PIP) Repealed - Will anyone miss it?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 11:32 AM PDT

No fault insurance certainly seems like a good idea. I guess the original idea was to provide a minimal level of medical insurance to injured drivers regardless of fault in hopes of keeping these cases out of litigation. Unfortunately the system was riven through with fraud and abuse. Staged accidents, sketchy medical providers, and a variety of outright fraudsters and schemes reduced the program to a haven for fraud. Will getting rid of it cast us back to the days of endless litigation over every minor claim?

Why client's intimate worker's worksite injury under CAR policy ?

I am buying my own apartment, can I stay under my parents car insurance?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:41 PM PDT

I currently live at home and drive a car in my dads name. I have purchased my own apartment and will be moving out and taking the car with me. I am only moving ~15 mins from home.

My dad called our insurance company and asked if I could remain under their insurance and he was told that by law - the answer is yes, since the car is under his name and it is just being "stored" in a different location.

I've been trying to find confirmation online but I can't seem to find anything. All I can find is if you are a dependent, but live elsewhere, you can stay under the same insurance but I am no longer a dependent. Maybe the insurance agent thought I was going off to college?

Does anyone know if this is the case? If the vehicle is registered to my dad but not kept at the same address and instead kept at my new apartment, can it stay under his insurance?

    Auto accident

    Posted: 07 May 2021 09:48 PM PDT

Weds evening I was involved in an auto accident a man ran a stop sign and crossed 2 lanes of traffic. My car was totaled out. The man did admit fault. When I spoke to the adjuster I made it very clear that I work overnights and asked if they needed to contact me late in the afternoon and specified 4:30-5:00 pm is ideal and asked this was put all over the file. Today I received 8 calls all before 11:00am. None of it was urgent at all. I wont lie my car was 14 years old but until this accident was in great shape. I feel like the insurance company is pressuring me to accepting any settlement offered by continually calling me knowing I work overnights and am sleep derived thanks to these calls. Can I reject their offer? I did leave the adjuster today pointing out her client is the one that inconvenienced me and now the insurance company is inconveniencing me as well for not accepting my boundaries. Help me deal with these ppl please

$1200 insurance claim received from State Farm via Bell Subrogation Services. What do I do first?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:13 AM PDT

    USA, IL

I got a letter in the mail dated 4/22/21 regarding an accident I was in back in 9/2020.

Long story short, I was in a left turn lane at an intersection when I realized I needed to go straight. I looked in my right rear view mirror and saw a car coming, but it was a little far behind, so I took the opening; I got out of the turn lane and proceeded to drive straight. Like 20 seconds later, the guy who was way behind me got pissed off I guess, sped up, cut to my right, immediately cut in front of me while also hitting the front right side of my bumper then immediately slammed on his brakes causing me to rear end him.

No damage on his car, a minor tap. Basically a nudge. He got out, all angry, claimed he "already called the cops on me", called me names and cursing at me etc. Cops showed up, said there were no witnesses so they couldn't determine who was at fault. The man claimed that he, his wife and children in the car are ALL injured, so they left the scene to "go to the hospital".

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago, and State Farm - Murfreesboro is trying to hit me for $1200 via Bell Subrogation Svcs.

Is there any way out of this and how? Who do I contact first? Bell or my insurance company?

    Continuing Education by Choice

    Posted: 07 May 2021 02:05 PM PDT

I want to start taking some courses by choice to help myself grow in the industry. Any suggestions?

Details: I am very new to the industry. I have a grand total of 1 year experience as a commercial lines account manager assistant. Essentially its the service position for the entire commercial lines department. Assisting with customer service, proofs & evidences and helping agents with odd tasks. Prior to insurance I have a decade long career in customer service management & retail management/merchandising. I DO NOT want to go into sales. I am considering other ways I can grow in a support function. Any ideas? Job titles? Or descriptions?

    Thanks in advance!

    Delta Dental coverage for fillings?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 05:34 PM PDT

So from what I've read in my benefits paperwork, fillings are 80% covered. I have Delta Dental PPO. Today, I went to the dentist, and I have one tiny filling I have to go back and get filled. They said my portion for the filling is going to be $175. I pushed back with the dentist office about if it's really supposed to be that much, and they insisted this is correct. I find it hard to believe that it's $875 for one tiny filling. Because for my 20% portion to be $175, it would have to be that much total.

What should I do next? Contact the insurance company? Cancel the appointment and go somewhere else? Has anyone else had any fillings with Delta Dental and had to pay that much?

Does anyone know if Delta Dental assigns ID numbers?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 05:01 PM PDT

I've tried calling them twice today, once before work and once after. Office was closed both times, so I haven't been able to speak with anyone.

Basically, in looking at my insurance card, I noticed there was no ID number. It just lists group name, plan and status. The spot where it says member ID is blank.

Today I went to the dentist, and I had to give them my social security number for them to be able to find my insurance. I really don't like having to do that, and don't want to have to do that every time I go to a dentist. I had blue cross blue shield all my life until now, and with BCBS, I always had an ID number that the offices used to look me up and bill the insurance.

Does anyone have Delta Dental Insurance? Do you have an ID number?

    Possible stupid question: Insurance claims?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 08:12 PM PDT

Hi, I'm 20 and I am on my parents insurance. Since I was 18 I have been seeking mental health treatment through psychiatrists on my own, as I would prefer to not talk about it with my parents and my parents want to give me space. They definitely know about it because of our insurance though. My question that I feel awkward asking them is: I have been to two separate psychiatrists, the first one referred me to an anxiety specialist and the second one (the specialist) makes me uncomfortable. I'd like to find a new one, however I'm not sure if this would change something for my parents insurance? Like, would this raise monthly costs? Sorry if this is a stupid question, I tried researching on the internet but it just made me more confused.

    Edit: Ohio, USA!

Shipped my car, the shipper disappeared. Can I file a stolen automobile claim with my insurance?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 07:01 PM PDT

In Canada. I'm moving across the country so I shipped my car via a shipper I found online. A week later, I am set to arrive in my new city via flight tomorrow and the shipper has not responded to any calls or messages in over 48 hours. I'm assuming the worst, that this person has disappeared with my car.

Can I call my insurance company and file a stolen claim in this situation? Not sure what to do here.

Car Insurance for 6 Month Internship

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:34 PM PDT

I currently live in California and I have a 6 month internship in Pennsylvania starting in June. The location requires me to own a car.

My plan is for my Uncle (he lives in NY) to help me buy a beater for me to use for the duration of the internship. My question is how would car insurance work? Since it's for 6 months I don't think my current insurance would cover it. Would I be able to get insurance under my uncle or would it be better for me to just get insurance in PA?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I'm still new to all this!

    Voided Car Insurance (UK)

    Posted: 07 May 2021 06:09 PM PDT

(England) I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to advise on this. About 8 years ago I was mis-sold cheap car insurance whilst I was a student. A few months later I was contacted by the insurance company to tell me the policy was void due to false details. It transpired that the employee had falsified some details to get me a cheaper quote.

I explained the situation and unfortunately they told me there was nothing else I could do. Since then I have been purchasing insurance through a reputable broker.

My intentions were never bad, and I am law abiding having never otherwise had a legal misstep.

What options do I have going forward? Do I just have to cough up the high premiums for life now? Am I right in thinking there is nothing else I can do? Should I be going to a law firm and seeing if I can get this overturned? What are my options?

Any advice is much appreciated. I have also posted this in the legal advice Reddit.

Question(s) regarding ramifications of car insurance settlement (at fault w/ bodily injury)

    Posted: 07 May 2021 01:53 PM PDT

So, I was involved in at fault car accident. Two people in the car I rear ended have sustained bodily injury. Thus far, both have received treatment that is under my insurance maximum. However, ones doctor suggests that he may be eligible for another procedure that would breach my limit (by ~10k max, as I understand it). The lawyers agreement states if I payout my policy limits in full as well as provide an asset disclosure (I have no house, other insurance etc) a final settlement of all claims against me and insurance will occur ("full and final release of all claims"). That's all agreeable to me however the disclosure makes me very uneasy.. it states something to effect of the figures mentioned (medical) are subject to change w/o notice bc medical + investigation are still ongoing. Is this jargon mostly to threaten me if they find I have assets or don't accept the deal? Or is it leaving the door open to a lawsuit after I pay out my maximum? I'm sure my best option is to sign it and hope they sign releases but I just wanted to get other opinions before I just trust adjuster and hope that this is the end (not that I feel as if I have another or a better choice). Anyways, thanks in advance!

Every time I try to get a car insurance quote, it says I've had accidents I've never been in

    Posted: 07 May 2021 09:53 AM PDT

19M in New Jersey, fresh off a successful driving test late last month, so I'm now fully licensed. My grandpa is helping me get car insurance for a vehicle he's handing down to me (a 2010 Hyundai Accent), so we're looking around for various car insurance quotes from various companies. Every time we get to finalize the process, though, the price is nearly doubled (from an estimate of a little over $2000 yearly to somewhere between $3000 - $4500) because either the person I'm calling or the site I'm using tells me that I've been in a car accident. With a couple representatives I talked to on the phone, they told me that I was in a car accident back in 2017 (strange, considering i was 15 at the time and nowhere near able to even be behind a wheel). We've just used Geico to get a quote, and the site claims I've been in THREE. The one in '17, and two in December of 2020. While I did have my permit during the latter two, not only did I not even start practicing until February or March of 2021, but it wasn't in the car that I'm trying to own. As my grandpa informed me, these ARE accidents (two faultless, one parking) that the car was involved in, so there are no accidents tied to my driver's license number, but these are accidents that are tied to the car's VIN number. However, none of this should be applying to me, as I was nowhere near involved with these incidents. No Google search is helping me with the specific problem that I have, I can't find a solution anywhere else. How am I supposed to wipe this record clean, or at least ensure that it isn't associated with me, so I can get insurance that isn't wildly overpriced for things that aren't my fault?

Edit: As a commenter brought up, the problem might be sharing a name. I am a Jr., my father has the same name as me, bar the suffix. However, at least with the Geico site, I was able to not only differentiate the Jr., but I was able to put in the last 4 digits of my Social, so there shouldn't be any problems with mistaken identity. The accidents were also not tied to my name or driver's license number, solely the VIN. I don't know for certain, though (I would like to know how I CAN know for certain — Google, again, didn't help me with that) whether or not the information I gave truly was enough to differentiate me from the Sr., nor do I know for certain if all three accidents are not tied to my driver's license number. These are all "should"s and "shouldn't"s.

(Ontario, Canada) Having multiple life insurance policies

    Posted: 07 May 2021 04:44 PM PDT

My husband & I are looking into getting life insurance set up for me by the end of June so we've been shopping around and have come across some pretty good term policies.

Currently he has a very small permanent plan (less than I make in a year) that his mother set up when he was a baby, so he has an emotional attachment to it even though objectively he's paying several times more than it's worth. I get why he wants to hold onto it, the plan is staying.

What we're wondering now is if he can set up a second policy with another company when I get mine up and running, and/or if it's even a part of the conversation with a broker (or if there's anything else to be aware of on the subject).

    Thank you for any insight!

Will my father see if I bill his insurance?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 12:04 PM PDT

    Hi everybody,

So I've wanted to see a therapist since I was 14 but my dad believes that it's super harmful and outright forbade me from going. As a minor, there wasn't much I could do about that, but I'm an adult now and I want to start going. I live at home still (don't we love pandemics) but I have my own means of transportation and my father doesn't monitor anything I do (online or going out)- unless he sees a bill, and that's the issue here.

The problem is that I live in the US and therapy is so expensive. I would not be able to sustain it on my own income as I am a full time student and it's just not in my budget capabilities. I'm on my father's insurance plan, but I don't fully understand how all that works and everything I got from Google was really complicated and not specific to my question so I came here.

If I used my father's insurance plan to pay for therapy, would he see that they were billed for it? Is there any way for me to prevent that? Is there a difference between what he'll see if I do copay as opposed to if I find a therapist that's fully covered? Is there any way around it or is he going to see it no matter what I do?

I've tried free online therapy, but everything I could find was always a random match and they would take like 30 minutes to reply and I couldn't keep the same person, so it didn't help me at all. And who knows, maybe a proper therapist also wouldn't help, but I at least want to try it regardless of whether I stop after a few sessions or stick with it forever.

New Driver in Indiana. Need advice?

    Posted: 07 May 2021 03:15 PM PDT

I just got my drivers license at 23. I'm on the hunt for a vehicle but that won't be easy or cheap because of the semiconductor chip shortage affecting the availability of new vehicles which affects the price of used vehicles. Insurance won't be cheap because of being a new driver and since I'm no longer in School the student discount won't apply to me. I also don't know how to fix cars so that's more money down the drain. I feel like I'm being screwed.

    What advice can you give?

    Choosing a health insurance plan.

    Posted: 07 May 2021 02:35 PM PDT

So I was planning on choosing a plan for Covered California and I have narrowed down to the two plans that I'm interested in. But I'm still a bit confused about how a deductible work. My deductible as of now is $3700, I know that I have to pay for it out of pocket until my health insurance kicks in, and right now I need needle aponeurotomy which can cost up to $1000 or more per visit if I'm not mistaken, or up to $4000 for per dose of Xiaflex.

So does this mean I have to pay at least (4) visits or $4000, before my deductible is met so that my plan can cover for the rest or any future visits? I mean at this point, after 4 visits, I wouldn't need any future appointments anyways for my health plan to cover anything. So wouldn't it make more sense to pay a bit more of a premium for a gold plan that has zero deductible? because I really wasn't trying to spend $4000 out of pocket for either operations or just to meet the deductible. Would a gold plan with zero deductible pay for the full cost of either operations or even coinsurance?

    Gold ( $70 ) Silver ( $20 )

Yearly Deductible $0 (Individual) $3700 (Individual)

Separate Drug Deductible $0 (Individual) $275 (Individual)

    Out-of-Pocket Max $8200 (Individual) $6500 (Individual)

Maximum Cost per Prescription $250 $250
