Neighbors house was bombed (everyone is OK), but significant collateral damage to my house and car.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:00 PM PST

Our neighbor had rented out their place to a couple, and apparently last night the boyfriend made an bomb and detonated it, burning the house significantly. In the process, our house sustained damage to the siding, window (blown out), and gutter. Also, my car was parked in the driveway, and its back glass is broken, along with cosmetic damage all over the car. My question is this - is my car covered by my homeowners insurance, or car insurance? Also, do homeowners claim work similarly to cars, in that your premium may go up in the event of a claim? Lastly, it may be important to note that my neighbor likely doesn't have home insurance himself. EDIT: Location is Cleveland, OH

Will i have to pay an ambulance fee if an ambulance came out to my accident? Florida.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:19 AM PST

I had an auto accident recently, they asked if i wanted an ambulance. I said i wanted to be checked out. They came and everyone had their blood pressure taken, and then they made us sign something. Afterwards, they left, no one went to the hospital.

I don't know if this is the right sub, but if no one was transported, SHOULD their be a fee to my insurance?

Do auto insurance company's give you high quotes to nicely say "We don't want you"?

I was quoted $320 a month/$3,456 a year with Esurance through Allstate for a car I just bought.

I asked state farm because I was previously insured with them, they offered double the coverages, half the deductibles, for $80 a month. I got similar low quote results getting quotes from Geico, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual. The other companies that offered absurd;y high quotes were nationwide and travelers.

What is a career in commercial P&C insurance sales like?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:05 AM PST

I'm interested in a career in sales. I've been doing research into different niches when I happened upon commercial property and casualty insurance. From the research I've done, it seems like a good career choice since I'm looking to make big money and willing to grind it out for a few years to earn that money. I'm looking to get my state broker license in property and casualty insurance and then start applying to different companies. Has anyone here worked in this type of field? For reference, I'm in the tri-state area. I'm curious to know the following:

    1. Is it typical for brokers to be paid commission only (meaning no base salary)?
    2. Are there many jobs out there that pay base salary with a great commission structure?
    3. Is it a stable job?
    4. What's the turn over rate for this type of job?
    5. How many cold calls are you typically doing per day versus how many inbound leads do you get?
    6. How hard is it to get potential prospects interested and close on a sale?
    7. How common/easy is it to start your own insurance brokerage after working for another company? This is my ultimate career goal.
    8. Does the job get easier or harder with time?
    9. What are the best and worst parts of your job?
    10. Would you do this career all over again if you had to start over?
    11. What is the typical work-life balance?
    12. How stressed are you in this role?
    13. Are there any things about this industry (insurance and sales) I should watch out for?

    Thanks in advance :)

Texas: Life Insurance noob. Should I keep the current policy or move to a different company.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:37 PM PST

Texas: Currently I and my SO own a 30 Year Term Life Insurance Policy from Transamerica Life Insurance. This was suggested by my agent and I jumped into it without doing my homework. Recently I came across reviews regarding the company where many people suggested they had difficulty with their customer service and also issues getting their claims during their difficult times. I do not want my family to go through the same thing so was thinking to move to another company. I was thinking about going with AAA as I have membership with them. Have any of you had any experience with AAA Term Life Insurance or are there any other better companies that are good and reliable with an affordable premium. Also what is the best way to cancel my current policy if I go with a different company? Not sending the renewal payment will suffice or do I have to take any extra steps to cancel the policy? Thanks in advance.

Startup Idea Question -- What permits/legal aspects do you need to sell insurance/liability coverage?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:50 PM PST

Let's say I run a bicycle peer-to-peer sharing marketplace, like Airbnb for bikes.

Let's say I want to make money off selling an insurance policy to seller that their bike won't get stolen or damaged or whatever, and would distribute payouts pretty liberally/hassle-free, as long as the individual filed a police report or whatnot.

What would I need from a legal side to do this, if anything?

Thoughts about IVARI universal life insurance. better option than term?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 06:13 PM PST

    Hello good people!

what are your thoughts about IVARI universal life insurance?. I'm still debating on if this is a good option. I am a 29 yr old married non smoker. I know that life insurance is an absolutely necessary thing for everyone and I was thinking of opting for a term insurance. I invest a little bit on the side on Questrade

The life insurance agent showed me a list of lot of funds that perform very well in the ULI and this made me wonder if I should really go for term insurance and invest on the side OR pay for insurance and invest in the Universal life policy

First experience with stolen items and claims.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:49 PM PST

Hey guys, recently some people stole items of mine out of a friends car. There is a police report in the works right now (it's taken nearly 3 weeks already to be almost done written) and the whole situation is a disaster. I do have some questions about what would happen with the insurance claim though.

In total, around 2.7 thousand dollars was taken of mine out of the car, about 4 thousand dollars in total. Now, I was told that the items were in possession of my friend so it would be his parents insurance to take care of it. I've gathered a list of everything stolen also including the receipts of everything I have. The problem is, to an insurance claim adjuster a lot of the items will not make sense of how much they cost.

A lot of my items were tactical gear, and I spent a lot of money due to me knowing the quality of the items and how the value retains or even appreciates drastically (some of the items I spent 320 dollars for now are around 550 used). I do not want to lose a dramatic amount of money on this, because I do not want the adjuster to see a $40 rip off on eBay and account that for my $270 item.

TL;DR. I guess what I'm saying is will the adjuster understand the monetary value of the items and take account for the appreciation of said items. These items do not depreciate greatly and in fact appreciates pretty heavily. Also can I get some tips on what I can do to make me get my fair share and help out in general?

    Thank you very much guys!

Edit; It's being covered by my friends home insurance (safeco) and is in the state tennessee. Also some of the payments were made to some people with just some PayPal transactions with no real solid backup.

Insurance for Family with Cancer Risk

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 09:51 AM PST

Due to cancer cases in my family (father had colon cancer, grandfather had lungs cancer and wife has Thyroid Cancer), I want to buy adequate insurance that could financially safeguard my family.

I have a decent health insurance through my employer. I have recently bought term life insurance which is 10 times my annual salary.

Should I take long term disability insurance for myself and critical illness or cancer insurance for my family? I want to buy these policies before I go for preventative checkups for myself. I am 40 year old male based in TX, US with wife and two small kids.

    I would appreciate any advice.

Health Insurance Options For Disabled Mother

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:21 PM PST

    Hello,

I'm seeking advice on affordable health insurance coverage for my blind/disabled mother. She currently lives in Italy but I would like to bring her back to the US to live with me in Washington State.

Her circumstances have changed and her illness has worsened, although her medical coverage is better in Italy she would be much happier living with family in the US than in the situation she currently finds herself in. It seems her condition is likely terminal I want to spend as much time with her as I can.

    • She is still married to my father, his income likely surpasses eligibility requirements for Medicaid, he does not provide any financial support to her at this time.
    • I believe her citizenship status would make her ineligible for Medicaid regardless. She will have to reapply for a green card, it's likely that she'll be approved for it but (from my understanding) she won't be eligible for naturalization for 3 years.
    • She will need in-home care and good coverage, she is incapable of walking by herself. I work a Full-Time job, I will be able to care for her but not during working hours. She has regular MRIs, appointments and takes multiple (expensive) medications daily.
    • My health insurance does not allow me to claim a parent as a dependent for coverage. I do not make a substantial amount of money and I'm afraid of not being able to financially support her.

Any advice, resources, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Procedures prior to coverage end date -health insurance

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 05:15 PM PST

    In Iowa, if that matters.

My wife had a procedure done in early-mid November. My company let a bunch of us go at the end of November, and I started a new job in mid-December. The procedure was approved by my prior insurance, but they didn't get the bill until after I was let go and coverage ended (Nov 30th, bill came in mid-Dec) and then rejected it. Now my understanding is they were still to cover procedures done prior to losing coverage regardless of the billing date. Am I wrong in that assumption?

Insurance is United Healthcare. I am covered by a different insurer through my new job, but I'm sure they aren't on the hook for this.

    Homeowners insurance quote seems low?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 04:49 PM PST

I'm in the process of closing on a home at the moment and have just started shopping for quotes. Since my auto is through Geico they were my first stop. I filled out their online form and didn't really change any options (rebuild cost is estimated at 178k and the deductible is 1k) and the quote came back at $366/yr, which seems crazy low to me. Is there something obvious I should be looking for to make sure the coverage is adequate? This is for a home near Boise, Idaho.

Out of Pocket Max for In Network v Out of Network

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 08:21 AM PST

    Hello!

My work healthcare plan has the below deductibles/out of pocket max. Are these mutually exclusive? So if I spend $ at any in network place, does that only apply to that bucket of max's ($3k deductible/$6k out of pocket max), and if I spend $ at any out of network place, does that only apply to that bucket of max's ($9k deductible/$18k out of pocket max)? So, if it ONLY applies to each bucket, I could owe up to $24k ($6k + $18K) if I used a lot of in and of network coverage?

    In Network:
    Deductible: $3K
    Out of Pocket Max: $6K

    Out of Network:
    Deductible: $9K
    Out of Pocket Max: $18K

Planning for 2022 healthcare plan. With costs constantly rising, and government website not being the easiest to navigate, I need your help Reddit

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:43 PM PST

So I have been working a white collar job at a national company since the end of 2019. I itemize all of my costs at the end of the year, so for 2020 I was pretty shocked the my family healthcare plan was the most expensive part at over 20% of my total income being spent on an HDHP family plan for just me and my wife. It's a little too late now to do anything for 2021, but my question is... Can my wife be on a government healthcare plan (she's unemployed) while I just get the single payer plan from my company? It just seems like it would be way cheaper if we could. We also file our taxes jointly and I'm not sure if that would affect this process, if this at all possible. Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you,

Cigna low deductible and HSA vs Bluecross Blueshield PPO

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 11:56 AM PST

Hey all- Im thinking about accepting a new position but im a bit confused on their insurance. I currently have BCBS PPO with a relatively low deductible and my potential employer offers CIGNA medical with either a low deductible or high deductible option. The low deductible option comes with the option for a Health Savings Account that i can put $2750 into annually, but i can only transfer 550$ at the end of the year, the rest of the money is forfeited.

Can someone please explain which option would be better? It seems that Cigna with the low deductible is much high in a monthly cost than BCBS PPO.

    Thank you!

Tricky insurance situation, anyone know where to start?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:40 PM PST

    Location: CA

I'm helping a friend sort out some complicated insurance issues and I was looking for some advice.

My friend has three major players in their issue:

    -Covered under Medi-cal

    -Receives treatment from Kaiser

-Suffered a long-term injury requiring treatment to be covered under workman's comp

Friend is experiencing a frustrating circular issue where each of those agencies are trying to pass the buck to someone else. We suspect it is because they don't want to pay for the (expensive) treatment my friend needs. Here's my friend's main issues:

-they cannot get their medical bills paid (Medi-cal keeps denying the claims)

-they need their older medical records for the documentation about their long-term workman's comp injury in order to receive treatment today, but Kaiser can't/won't respond to their records requests

My friend really needs to receive their medical treatment, it is a life-threatening condition and they have been suffering. It feels like they are being shuffled around the system and that all the insurance companies hope my friend will give up or die before they have to pay!

I've agreed to help my friend try to figure this out, but I have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?

If i was involved in an auto accident as a PASSENGER in florida, will that be reported to my insurance companies UNDERWRITING?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 03:24 PM PST

I outlined underwriting because there's a difference between a CLAIM and the information that an underwriter uses to affect someones rate.

So, i understand if someone was involved in TEN accidents all completely NOT AT FAULT they could have significantly higher rates, or even be dropped. I don't want this to be reported to my insurance PERIOD and i want to know if it will if i DO NOT file a PIP claim?

    Thank you.

How many people with disabilities work in insurance, what is the hiring and success rate of those people, and what kinds of accommodations are allowed for people with disabilities to be successful in insurance jobs ?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:52 PM PST

    Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I did another computer assessment for the GEICO customer service representative in San Diego, CA that I talked about in my last couple posts. This time, I was tasked with entering in data from emails and phone calls from customers in boxes with a time limit.

Even though the automated voice told me multiple times that I was not required to enter in all of the info and just be as accurate as possible without worrying so much about speed, I felt extremely overwhelmed trying to do emails and phone calls at the same time.

I am not saying that regular people didn't feel overwhelmed completing the assessment, I am just saying that because of my disability, specifically Autism Spectrum Disorder, it makes it even harder to multiple tasks at the same time in a short amount of time. This means that I need to do tasks one at a time with extra time in order for them to be completed.

For example, at my current job, as a mailroom clerk in the Federal Government, when I am metering mail or entering information in the computer, there are occasional interruptions like someone coming in to pickup something or a phone call from someone, but I am finishing one task at a time, there is plenty of time to finish every task and I am not trying to simultaneously help someone on the phone and enter in info at the same time.

Unless somehow the actual work in customer service is slower paced or less multi-tasking than what was presented in the assessment, I don't think I would still want to consider working as a customer service rep just based on what I faced yesterday. However, I am still interested in doing either a claims processor or adjustor role.

On the other hand, if there is an option to get disability accommodations for an insurance job, I will feel more comfortable and secure. Accommodations like more time to do tasks and doing tasks one at a time is crucial to my success in a job as an autistic individual even though I am not demanding it as the manager still has the authority to give the accommodations or not.

At the same time, I am also wondering how many people with disabilities even get hired in insurance and what is the success rate of them keeping the job (assuming that the manager is pleased with the performance and the disabled employee does not lose their job because their work pace is considered too slow compared to regular people).

I am not sure how many people will read this long detailed post, but I thank anyone in advance who has. I have also provided a too long; didn't read for those who don't want to.

TL;DR: The computer assessment at GEICO was too overwhelming for me because of my Autism and now I am wondering if I continue to pursue a job in insurance will there be accommodations for people with disabilities to do the job without feeling overwhelmed as well as wondering what is the likelihood of someone with a disability getting hired for a job and staying in the job.

[California] Question about filing for diminished value after someone drove into me

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 07:04 AM PST

Someone drove into me yesterday while I was stopped in a left turn lane, waiting for traffic to clear. They pulled out of the lot I planned to turn into, didn't look, and drove directly into my front quarter.

I have Geico insurance, but they advised me to file a claim through the other driver's insurance company, which I have.

But it has occurred to me that a collision on my vehicle's history report will lower it's resale value. I started researching this, and have come across the concept of a diminished value claim.

I have a few questions about this, because it's a very muddled subject without any clear answers on the internet that I've been able to find.

    1. Do I file this claim through my insurance or the other driver's? The collision claim is going through their insurance at this time.
    2. Do I need a police report? I called the police yesterday while I was on-site at the accident and they basically told me that they were too busy to come out if no one was injured. Will a police report help my case? I have a witness's phone number, and any one who saw this will agree that I was at zero fault.
    3. What is the actual process for filing a diminished value claim? What should I say to the adjuster? What should I ask for? What do I need to document for this go to in my favor?
    4. Anything else I should know that I'm not thinking of?

    Homeowners insurance question

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST

Our next door neighbor's house was damaged in a windstorm. A branch also crushed our Airstream and she wants to claim it on insurance. Her house, however is in her mothers name. Her mother passed away and it has not been transferred. Because the house is financed, she does not want to tell the lender and has been paying the mortgage and insurance.

Can she call the insurance company and make a claim on her mother's behalf? Will they issue a check to her mother that she can't cash? Can she file a claim and have them pay us directly? We also are a contractor and can do the work on the house and fences. Would they be able to pay us directly? Will they deal with her?

    We are in California.

For people who work in insurance...

    Posted: 31 Jan 2021 10:08 AM PST

Does your job in insurance give you a comfortable life?

I got a degree in music performance (I know), and then after a good number of years struggling through the gig life I got a decent job in Fundraising consultation in 2019. Paid off a lot of debt, and I was happy. Then the pandemic messed up the fundraising world, and my 8 months of experience wasn't enough to be valuable.

So I'm trying to turn the page, and I zeroed in on insurance. Working towards my PC license.

My question to those in the field: does this job give you decent financial security? I'm not looking to be rich. I just want to get my own little quiet home someday with a yard and a good kitchen. Very simple dreams over here.

I know it's a broad question, and there are a lot of answers, but I'd love to read about some individual experiences. Thank you so much.
