Seeking Basic Advice (First time business)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:04 PM PST

    Hello,

I am looking into finally starting my own business. I won't go too much into details, but I'm seeking opinions on 2 things.

Since I am new, Should I do everything on my own as a learning process, or should I hire a company such as Zen Business to do the paperwork and stuff for me? (I plan to do an LLC, rather than a SP.)

My other question is, If I plan to run 2 businesses at the same time, such as selling online, and selling in a B&M, is it really necessary to get 2 separate LLCs?

    Thanks for your input.

What are the reasons for strict IP protection?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 12:05 AM PST

In businesses that we see nowadays, what could be the reasons that the current IP protection practices became more and more strict to the point that it seen as "unfairness" to the public eye? Is it a matter of principle, greed, obligation, or something beyond those who are not familiar with the business world?

    Australian Business and US Citizen

I just moved back to the States and I have a some questions.

If I were getting paid to my Westpac account in Australia and wiring it to my bank account here in the States just to pay myself will I have to pay taxes here? I been searching and i feel overwhelmed with a lot of information online. Also hearing that the first 75k i make is not taxable?

Is there an easier way to pay myself? Or will I have to keep wiring and converting?

Does anyone have experience with running a company while living abroad?

Thanks again for any answers 🤞

Information about the restaurant business in the South East UK (COLLEGE PROJECT)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:41 PM PST

    Hi guys,

I am studying Business in college, and I have a project assignment.

    My topic is :

Investigating the role of digital marketing in the survival of new restaurants in South East England within the past 5 years. (Excluding COVID period)

I have done some searching on the internet but I haven't been able to find much information about this topic at all. If any of you guys have any sources of information that I can work with I'd be very grateful.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

    Thank you

Edit: I already know that 60% of restaurants close within their first year, and 80% close within their first 5 years, I need more information specifically about how digital marketing factors into it, especially in South East England if possible. But as long as it's about the UK in general, it will still give me something to work with.

I want to major in business but I’m worried...

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:04 PM PST

I'm a freshmen in college atm, taking classes remotely. I'm undeclared and even though I like psychology and artistic things, I wanna make money and I actually came up with a business idea that I'm really passionate about and best of all, I could target rich clients.

Both my grandpa and my dad started their own business, both successful. I told my dad my business idea and he thinks it's the best career path I can work towards because it has potential for growth and I can make more money. This means a lot coming from him because he makes $250k a year and he started his business in his basement with $500.

I'm a little worried though if I'm capable of even doing this for a few reasons

    • I'm pretty sure I have adhd, I have a screening soon. Either way, I experience a lot of executive dysfunction with school and other things I need to get done. For months of quarantine I told myself I would work towards my goals, but all I've done is sit around and waste time. Inaction is my biggest struggle and I'm not sure if I'm cut out to start and run my own business. Both my grandpa and my dad are grinders- they just grind and get s*** done meanwhile I can take months just to do a simple thing.

    • I'm not really the "leader" type. Both my grandpa and my dad are very assertive people and they have no problem making decisions and being in charge. I'm the complete opposite (INFP enneagram 9). I'm definitely more submissive even though if I really have an idea, I can speak up but I hate bossing people around

    • I'm horrible at math. I hate math. My grandpa and my dad are both really good at understanding math, money, and numbers. I'm better at English class where I write essays and analyze books

    • also, since I go to an arts school, they don't have an actual business major. They have communications and economics so I guess I can just do economics. I can try and do the "make your own major" thing if they'll let me

Idk, I'm just worried about it. I guess I can just suck it up and force myself to work towards what I need but I'm worried that I'll fail because I'm not the typical business type. Be honest if you think this is a bad idea for me

I’m trying to brainstorm some ideas for finding personal kickboxing clients. Any ideas

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:52 PM PST

Hi all! I'm wanting to start a personal kickboxing coaching side hustle out of my garage. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for finding clients who will work with me.

A couple ideas I had were advertising to local businesses as a way to promote work/life balance sort of? I also have a couple connections with local law enforcement so maybe I could take in a couple officers. An option that's completely off the table for me is advertising to kids. I'm not gonna be a glorified daycare with karate slapped on its forehead (or mcdojo if you're in the know)

Most of the people I know who do what I want to do mostly get clients by word of mouth. Any ideas and or feedback is greatly appreciated, I know this was a read <3

Low startup cost business advice please

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 06:16 PM PST

I'm 19 and not in school right now and unemployed. I took a gap year and hopefully will start uni in fall. I come from a very poor family and I have been looking for jobs but haven't found any yet. I'm starting to worry more because I need to support my mum and I know a minimum wage job wouldn't be enough anyways. I'm currently making ends meet by doing little things here and there like tutoring or babysitting for family, I don't consider this an actual job as it's not stable or consistent.

I have many business ideas but most of them need some money to start with which I don't have. I'm wondering what to do in the short term to garner enough money to later start a business. Or a business model that doesn't require a lot of start up costs. Do you have any suggestions?

I also feel very lost sometimes because it's hard to distinguish who to trust when it comes to business advice. Especially on YouTube.

The only thing I can think of that will solve my immediate issue is digital products. I recently learnt more about these and it looks very promising.

Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

    $NLST NETLIST vs GOOGLE

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 12:47 PM PST

David and Goliath story. Netlist (NLST) patent was stolen 12 years ago by Google after they signed an NDA to look at Netlists memory patent. Then Google promptly bootlegged it through a chinese manufacturer screwing Netlist a California company. Google thought they could bankrupt Netlist but CEO fought back for 12 years and won a final victory against Google June 15 2020 when the federal appeals court upheld the lower courts decision against google in 78 claims with a rule 36 decision. Google exhausted all appeals and soon the USPTO will issue the new patent recertification upholding all 78 claims. Stay against Google will be lifted. Please consider investing. Do your DD and understand this is a seminal patent that propelled Google to the forefront of searches with stollen Tech. Its time for Google to pay. Many of us believe that Google has paid manipulators to artificially deflate this stocks price. Check out their patent and see if you agree. Damage award should be in the Billions.

    Small Plumbing Business

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:47 AM PST

    Good day, r/business!

I am a journeyman plumber that has just moved to an area of southern Ontario, Canada where there is a healthy need for plumbing services. I have a Red Seal certification in plumbing and gas fitting from the government of Canada. Despite having 8 years of experience in installation and service work, I have no experience or knowledge of actually running a small business. I was hoping y'all might be able to suggest some educational resources that I could read up on that would help run a small business start up.

    Thank you!
