$400,000 Claim - Stuck in Limbo (Illinois USA)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 07:48 PM PST

    Hi everybody,

My wife gave birth to twins in October 2019. My wife was under a United Healthcare insurance plan and I was on a BlueCross BlueShield plan through our separate employers..

We decided to sign the kids up for my BlueCross insurance plan since it was the best one. United decided that they would still be the primary insurance for the babies' first 3 days of their lives even though they weren't named on the plan. After those 3 days, BlueCross would be primary.

The kids were in the hospital for 3 months, but we just had a large number of claims denied by United (service dates within the first three days they were born). United told me the claims were denied because they need the hospital to resubmit the claims with my wife's name listed as the patient. United asked me to call the hospital and have the claims list my wife's name as the patient instead of the babies names.

The hospital said there was no way they can change the patient's name on the claim. They said its illegal. I called back United to let them know, and I asked if my kids were not covered since the bills did not list my wife as the patient. United said that the twins are covered and the hospital just has to change the patient name.

I'm really confused. The hospital says they can't change the patient name but the insurance company says they can and must.

Since we have two insurance companies, if United would just deny coverage to the babies, I could just tell BlueCross and they should run the claims as primary. I'm stuck in limbo because United's request to change the patient name can't be made.

Should I just tell the hospital that United denied the claims and ask them to reprocess the claims with BCBS as primary insurance and let them know that United won't pay any of it? Any recommendations on what to do would be helpful. I'm sort of stuck in a communication loop.

Do I need to insure a car that I own but am leasing to another individual in a separate state?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 05:53 AM PST

I own a car that I am leasing to someone in another state, he is insuring the vehicle so I canceled my insurance policy on the car. I just received a fine from the state for not insuring my vehicle. There is nowhere I can "check off" explaining that the car is insured in another state , and I cannot sign my title over to someone making payment installations in order for him to register the vehicle where he lives. What do I do? I was not aware you needed insurance in the state a vehicle is registered, I thought as long as it was insured it doesn't matter? I set up the payment plan around the belief that he would be paying his own insurance... Can I unregister my car, still own it, and the leaser continue to drive it?

Should i see a doctor? How much will a PIP claim likely raise my insurance? Am i eligible for a bodily injury claim in florida?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 03:49 AM PST

So, about 60 hours ago i got in a car accident and in about 6 hours im gunna get up and likely be seen by a doctor. I have a lot of questions.

I was told for a bodily injury claim in florida, you need to typically be seen within 72 hours. Does me waiting at all matter? I didnt start having worse issues until now. So i assume i need to go. i also read online that in florida in order to get a bodily injury claim from the other party for pain and suffering you need to have suffered a permanent injury disfigurement or permanent issue. Does that mean i won't be able to get pain and suffering?

The reason i'm asking about that is this- not for fraudulent purposes, but because i need to weigh the pros and cons of filing a PIP claim. I know if i file a pip claim my insurance rates can go up (how much do they usually go up from this)? versus not filing one.

My neck does hurt, and i think i may need BASIC treatment. My neck is pretty stiff and muscles hurt bad. We were hit pretty fast too, so i could even have issues with my head honestly i've had headaches since the accident.

But let's be real, we're in the US and things aren't always ideal. If i go and file a PIP claim and my rates get raised, i can't do anything about that. Also, NOT BECAUSE IT'S A FRAUDULENT claim, but i don't think it's worth it if i won't likely get pain and suffering.

To give context- my girlfriend was rear ended in her truck, the kid who hit us and at fault smashed up the whole front end of his car. He hit us so hard, (i'm thinking at LEAST 25 if not up to 35 mph) that he hit us INTO THE VEHICLE in front of us and smashed most of her front end. Of a TRUCK. It's easily 8k damage if you include frame damage and other things. If not much more. However, not my vehicle and i'm not listed as an owner.

I know for a fact i'll recieve muscle relaxants, physical therapy, and imaging. If not more. Do you think it's worth it for me to file this pip claim? My monthly rate is about 35 a month because i'm on my parents insurance. Yeah, super low... but i just FINALLY got out of the hole i was in paying almost 220 a month when i had 2 at fault accidents that just fell off. So i DO NOT WANT it to go up more then 50 bucks a month. This is assuming even if i maxed out my pip coverage at 10k used i don't want my rate to be more then 50 a month.

    Help!

Getting the run around between Progressive and LexisNexis for accident incorrectly listed on my report

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 07:24 AM PST

    Hi,

~5 months ago I got insurance for a new (to me) car through Progressive. Everything looked good with my rates throughout the process until it found something listed on my report for a accident 2 years ago (driver of car was not at fault) that I wasn't involved in and from when I didn't own the car. It seems tied to me, not the car itself. I do have the same last name as one of the parties, but otherwise there's nothing involving me in it.

I called Progressive and they said I needed to take it up with LexisNexis, and when that is solved they'll refund the premium this adds. I've called the given number multiple times and it's almost impossible to get through to anything meaningful with their voice recognition software. I did get through once but didn't have the claim# of this accident (claimed through a diff company, 2+ years ago, not by me) so my call ended. I've requested my report by mail twice so I can dispute it and each time I've gotten a "sry nothing matches the info you gave us". My car is registered to a different address than is on my license and used for everything else so I've tried using both when requesting.

I've asked Progressive if they have an internal contact for the company they can bring this up with (no) and they just gave me a slightly different method of requesting my report, which I did and got the same "sry got nothing" mail response. So I can't even get to the dispute+investigation part of this process.

Searching r/insurance for this problem I see I could send some proof of this to LexisNexis via a certified letter? Even just a copy of my car title could prove I didn't own the car at the time. Do I just send it to the publicly listed company address? Also I saw someone mention that they have good customer service. I know I'm just a nobody and not their paying customer but wtf am I doing wrong?

I'm going to switch insurance if this isn't solved, but will this be a problem for every insurance provider I try?

Thank you for any help or direction!

edit: oh jeez sorry for the block of text-- I can't seem to figure out how to put more space between the paragraphs

Is my dentist office committing insurance fraud?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:51 AM PST

At my last dental appointment I was told the office has changed the way they work with my insurance (delta dental). I was told I had to pay for my services upfront out of pocket ($400) and my insurance would send a reimbursement check to the policyholder (not me). Today I received a text from my dental office saying delta dental sent the policyholder a reimbursement check for $500, and asked that I drop off the check at the office, and they would reimburse me the $400 I paid to them directly. I don't understand the $100 discrepancy. Also are they even able to cash a check that is made out to someone else's name? The policyholder lives far from me and it's not feasible to take a trip to go pick up the check. The policyholder was just going to deposit the check and send me the money via venmo. The situation just seems sketchy to me. Is fraud being committed by my dental office?

House lost due to fire. Currently involved in law suit.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2021 05:29 AM PST

Hey guys just seeking some advice. I posted several months ago that I lost my house due to a fire ( I was staining my hardwoods and the rags caught on fire) my insurance State Farm denied the claim and I am currently in the process of filing a law suit. I was looking for some advice of what I should do next. Let's say the law suit doesn't pan out what do I have to do next? Foreclose? File bankruptcy? Is there anything else I can do to protect myself? Would an umbrella policy be of value? I would appreciate any advice!

Edit: this occurred in upstate New York

Is it normal for each vehicle to be on its own policy on State Farm or is something wrong?

See question in title. To clarify each vehicle has its own policy number, and I can set different non-vehicle limits on each car. Located in CT.

    Career switch into Insurance (underwriter)?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:04 PM PST

    Hi there,

How realistic is it to change careers into insurance if you have zero relevant experience working in insurance?

About me: I currently work in education, have a bachelors and masters, and am looking for a career switch. Based in NYC at the moment. I'm in my early 30s—would the older age put me at a disadvantage?

What would be the best way to step into this field and how likely are companies to hire someone with my background? What can you expect salary-wise as an entry level employee? Is there a decent amount of room for growth upwardly? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to say thanks for all the information you have provided me about insurance jobs

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:57 PM PST

    Hello everyone,

I just wanted to say thanks again to those who have provided information on my posts about insurance jobs. Even though I have decided to not pursue the insurance field after reading about the workload and how overwhelmingly stressful it is, not to mention the high turnover rate, I thank you all for taking the time out of your busy lives to answer my questions about insurance even though you didn't have to.

I know more about insurance jobs than I could say I knew 2 years ago through reddit and research and I can say that this is a much better way to approach finding a career than wasting money getting that insurance degree and then realizing that I didn't want to do the job.

I don't know how any of you do your jobs every day and put up with all that you go through, but someone's got to do it, I suppose.

Purchase home insurance from the builder (Dr. Horton). Should I?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 04:25 PM PST

Hi everyone, I am purchasing a new home with Dr. Horton, the home should be done being built by May 2021. Dr. Horton also offers their own home insurance package. The closing price is $330,900 but the Dwelling coverage is only $252,000 and Wind/hail deductible is 2%. My question is, does anyone have any experience buying home insurance with the builder, in this case is Dr. Horton and should go a company that offers the dwelling coverage that is the same with the home price? The home is in Denton, Texas. Thank you

Snowplow hit truck. Company offered too little to purchase any reasonably reliable replacement. Refuses to disclose insurance company.

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:06 PM PST

It's a 1995 Chevy K2500 that got the hood caved in right at hood level so the frame member on top of the radiator is caved in resulting in minor frame damage, the radiator being shoved in, and the hood is completely stuck. Repairs are certainly worth more than the truck.

The Truck isn't worth that much but the market for any Chevy c/k, or 1990-1999 Silverado 4WD is pretty much dead because it's the middle of winter. Pretty much the lowest price reliable vehicle replacements in the area are 3000$.

Anyone have any advice on how to proceed? I have 10 days from last Friday to file a police report. I really don't want to go through all that time and hassle fighting an insurance company.

Oops, I am in Reno NV.

[California] A driver from Texas drove into me while I was stopped. Now my steering wheel is not lined up to my direction of travel. What are my rights here? Can I have the damage assessed before they find a CA licensed adjuster?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:35 PM PST

I want to know what's going on with my truck. I noticed today during a short drive that when I'm driving straight, the steering wheel is cocked at about 45 degrees to the left.

Can I take my truck to a dealer or local shop to get the damage fully assessed, and then bill the other driver's insurance for that assessment?

What about a rental car? I don't want to drive it while it's all screwed up, potentially causing more damage. Can I get them to pay me for a rental?

What else should I be thinking about?

Do I just need to wait until they find a CA licensed adjuster who'll deal with me? Or can I be proactive?

    What will happen?(car insurance)

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 05:24 PM PST

I was in an at-fault accident in October in which both cars were totaled. I was in an accident today that was no-fault because of illegally parked cars that blocked the blind spot and snow that pushed them out even farther. What will happen with my insurance? The previous accident put points on my record.

Car full of snow - both windows and sunroof open

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:58 PM PST

This morning I went for a three hour trip in a snow storm. With the windows up and the sunroof closed. The car was wonderful everything is amazing - I parked it and got in my work truck to do some emergency repairs on the cable system.

When I returned home from work 12 hours later,my sunroof was open and the windows on my car were all the way down and my car was full of snow.

I have no idea how the windows got rolled down nor how the sunroof was opened.

Maybe it's an electronic gremlin. I can't imagine any possible scenario where I parked left all of my windows and the sunroof all the way open. (2017 BMW I3 Rex)

This happened in Las Vegas Nevada and the other car had California plates

    Title Insurance in SC

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 09:25 AM PST

How does title insurance work when it comes to property lines?

A previous attorney told me that title insurance wouldn't cover problems with property lines if a new survey would have uncovered it and I didn't order one. My current real estate attorney has told me that unless I ordered a new survey when I purchased it they won't cover any problems with property lines.

While trying to figure out who owns a tree near this property, I learned that the neighbors drive way is 6.4' on my property. Reviewing the previous survey from 1999 (that I got from the attorney after I closed and investigating the tree), there is a handwritten note about the driveway.

I feel like the attorney should have told me about the driveway, whether he discovered it or the title insurance did.

Is XYZ or ABC in the wrong?

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 02:31 PM PST

Hello! This is my first post here. I decided not to use the real names of the insurance companies or car rental agency. I'm just trying to seek clarity on this situation. I got into a collision that was the fault of the other party. My car was totaled. The other party has insurance through GHI and I have insurance through ABC. The GHI Claims Adjustor set me up for a rental car through XYZ, and stated that GHI would cover the cost of the rental car. I went to XYZ and gave them my insurance so they could verify my policy. They came back and said that because I am under 21, and my family's insurance policy does not have full coverage on my car, they cannot release a car to me. My mom called ABC, and they claimed that our currently liability coverage should cover rental cars. The manager of XYZ reiterated that I needed to have full coverage because of my age, and the only way XYZ would rent a car is release one in my Mom's name that only she could drive. Both ABC and the GHI claims adjustor have never heard of this policy. Is this just a complicated policy that XYZ is in the right to have that ABC is unaware of? Any comments or thoughts would be appreciated.

Progressive is stalling on my claim

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 11:41 AM PST

back on December 17, my husband hit a patch of ice and hit a curb. it decimated his front passenger wheel. like ripped the wheel off.

we took it to the body shop associated with the dealership we use for regular repairs/maintenance and started a claim with our insurance.

its been almost 7 weeks and we still dont have the car back. the work is done and has been done for over a week, but the body shop is refusing to return our car because progressive hasn't paid for the entire bill. Because the body shop "forgot" to bill for a portion of the work AFTER the car was done.

Progressive is now refusing to pay the rest of the bill because they need more information from the body shop.

we've also been told this entire time work would not be completed until payments were made. so we find it really fishy that the car has been done for over a week, and the shop is still trying to bill our insurance for "repairs"

all last week and today we have been calling back in forth, demanding progressive pay and the shop send progressive what they need. we have gotten no where.

what are my options in this matter? i think both parties are being jerks, but my husband needs his car back, and we have no idea what to do.

Edit: we're in michigan if that makes a difference

Edit 2: we just got a call from progressive. They've sent 7 checks over to the shop, and the guy were working with has said how they're billing is incredibly unusual. So thank you all who said it's the shop.

Edit 3: we realize at this point it's 100% the shops problem and not progressives problem. When it was unfolding earlier, we only had the shop's side of the story and were waiting for our guy to call us back. When I made edit 2 we had gotten in contact with him and he let us know the shop is full of BS, they've been paid, and if we don't have the car tomorrow let them know. Our plan is to also speak with the general manager of the dealership if things aren't done. This is the first time we've ever had to do something like this and it's been a very annoying learning experience, and we weren't sure if this was an insurance issue (I just know medical insurance is 9/10 times at fault for screwing shit up, or at least with us they are). Course we also know auto anything is a business of taking advantage of those who aren't educated in cars. So jaded experiences on both fronts left us not knowing what our options are. By now it feels good knowing the insurance is on our side.

Thank you all again for your clarity. I greatly appreciate it!

    Permissive use teen driver Texas

    Posted: 01 Feb 2021 08:00 PM PST

I called our insurance agent before our teen turned 16 to get a quote to add her to our policy. To my surprise, she said we could either add her for a lot of $, or let her "fly under the radar" under Texas permissive use laws and just add the car she drives without adding her to our policy. She said we can do this until our insurance company asks for an updated list of household drivers and suggested that some people are able to do this for a long time. This seems risky. Thoughts?

I am applying for a Licensed Inbound sales representative-work from home position. Can someone who works for Progressive in this position tell me what questions will be asked in the video interview.? I'm freaking out lol 😅 I already prepped with 3 targeted questions from the actual website. 1. Describe a time where you wished you reacted differently with a coworker. 2. Describe a time where you went above and beyond your job responsibilities to get a job done. 3. Tell me about a time where you made a bad decision.
