Please use this thread to have discussions which you don't feel warrant a new post to the sub. While the Rules for posting questions on the basics of personal finance/investing topics are relaxed a little bit here, the rules against memes/spam/self-promotion/excessive rudeness/politics still apply!

Have a look at the FAQ for this subreddit before posting to see if your question is frequently asked.

Since this post does tend to get busy, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

Who else here has retired early and is covering their own health insurance?

I know the #'s are high and gets higher as you age up. Average health insurance premiums are something like $25k a year for a couple in their 60's for silver PPO level plan. That takes a huge chunk out of you're annual budgeted spend.

For people who have a ton of money (over 3 million), this shouldn't be that big of a deal. But, for LEANer fire folks, this seems like a huge drag on the budget. Who on here is doing this in their 50's? And, how expensive is it for you?

I'm considering to move back to Canada with my wife in retirement. But, their health care systems have a lot of other challenges people down here don't realize.

Curious- how much money is normal to have in the bank at age 25?

I'm nearly 25- hoping to get a home of my own in a year or two. After paying car payments, rent, etc I consistently have about $10,000 to $12,000 sitting in the bank.

How careful should I be about spending? Is this a good amount to have early in my career, after working for about 2 years?
