Tw: I received a $12,543.00 ER bill in the mail.

I went to the ER for a sexual assault and my insurance company paid 0 dollars and I was billed the entire amount. I checked the mail when I got off work and it's too late in the day to call them and honestly I'm extremely anxious that's more than half of what i make in a year. Does insurance not cover sexual assault care? I've been to this Er before with my insurance and I wasn't charged but in this case I am. I have Blue cross blue shield of SC and honestly I don't know what to do someone please help!!!!

How likely is it that I am sued for over 25k per person or 50k per incident?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 11:43 AM PDT

I was in an auto accident at the beginning of the month which was my fault. Her car was totaled but worth less than 50k so my insurance fully paid for the value of her car.

I just got a call from my insurance adjuster and he informed me that the other party hired an attorney. I was working so I couldn't really talk and ask the questions I wanted to.

My coverage at the time was 25k per person or 50k per incident for bodily injury.

When the accident happened, the 2 people in her car were checked out by the paramedics and cleared at the scene so no one left in an ambulance.

I'm very anxious and nervous that the other party is trying to sue me or my insurance company for more than 50k for the entire incident.

Since the accident, I have upped my insurance to 100k per person 300k per incident.

    Any tips or advice?

    First car crash

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 06:00 AM PDT

Last week a car hit the driver side of my car because they ran a red light. They got out and apologized to me for running the light. The cops came and since I had injuries (later found out it was a concussion) I told them what happened and I was driven to the hospital. After getting to the hospital I found out that the other driver talked to the the cops for a very long time and told them that that their light was green and I was just a younger college kid and I was the one who ran the red light.

The insurance company is being stubborn and won't send out an appraiser to see the damage and the fees are adding up in the tow lot. The cops won't work with me to ask the bus line for security footage of the intersection for the accident because I remember a bus being near the scene. It's frustrating because this feels like ageism and they are taking the side of the older driver.

Any advice for what to do? Right now my insurance company says that they can't determine who is at fault because of the police report. I'm 24 and in my last year of college, my car is totaled and I have nothing covering rental cars on my insurance. The costs in this will probably make me take out another loan.

I think my adjuster ghosted me

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:05 PM PDT

I'm 3 weeks into the hell that is a flooded kitchen and my adjuster has stopped answering calls or emails I'm just sitting here with an empty, wall-less room where my kitchen used to be and no answers on anything. Is this normal? It's been 7 days since I've received any response from him.

Wanting to possibly change careers into Florida License Adjuster. Questions regarding this.

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 09:56 PM PDT

    Hello all,

My current background. 11 years of Timeshare/Sales Experience. A.S in unrelated field (Computer Information Technology).

As one can imagine, given COVID, things are not looking optimal for my current career. Thankfully, I am still employed during this unprecedented time.

I have done a lot of research into Liability and am strongly interested in changing the trajectory of my career into this field. I feel experience and skills I have learned in my current field could carry over.

With that being said, I do have the following concern:

From preliminary research I have done looking at careers posted in this field, it would appear most if not all postings I have seen already want you to have your Bachelors Degree, regardless of what it is in.

Based on this, it would appear obtaining my 6-20 may not be worth it without finishing my Bachelors. I would prefer not to back to College, however, I do understand nothing in life comes easy, and if I have to go back to school to obtain one, I will. However, based on others currently working in the field, would getting my 6-20 first be worth it, or should I just complete my education if I want to get into the field?

Claiming friend's property through your insurance after car robbery

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 09:29 PM PDT

My partner's vehicle had its rear window smashed out this afternoon, and the perpetrator made off with his and his friend's bags. By some miracle, the bags were recovered by someone almost a mile away a few hours later with a number of important documents and the such, but all the electronics (laptop/iPad/chargers), some expensive sets of glasses, and miscellaneous other items were taken. Since car insurance typically doesn't cover property within the vehicle, he is considering placing a claim through our renter's insurance with Assurant. We were wondering if he would be able to claim the friend's items under personal property theft since it was stolen from his vehicle. Does anyone have insight into this? It was a bit too in the weeds to accurately Google an answer. And just to add another fun layer of complexity for those that may want to tackle it, if the friend's employer was willing to front the deductible for that, would that be allowed/kosher?

We're located in San Francisco, same location as the theft.

    Collision coverage in out-of-state collision

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 08:44 PM PDT

I bought my policy in MN and while traveling to OH, my car was rear ended in hit and run situation. As I did some research I learnt that in the State of Minnesota, customers are allowed to choose OEM/Aftermarket parts. Does it still apply in my situation? Thank you in advance.

Car accident. Lying driver. I hit the car front bumper as I was reversing in a parking lot. What to do?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 08:42 PM PDT

They told insurance that they got bodily injured. No way going 3-7mph is going to give a grown man in an suv bodily from a tiny ass car. Bastards honked right before I hit them. I heard the car hit the suv and front bumper was fuc*ed.

What's the best car insurance option for a teen driver?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:41 PM PDT

I live in Missouri. My husband and I have three vehicles. My 18 year old sibling, who lives with us, wants to drive the car that we don't use. Is our best option to add them to our policy? To insure the car with us as drivers and they get a non owner policy?

Ex-BIL in accident, refuses to provide info

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 01:19 PM PDT

Unfortunately, I'm back to this subreddit again about the same issue.

My ex-BIL still has yet to contact my insurance company or reply to their inquiries about the incident. There was a police report filed but between moving and work, I haven't been able to go get a copy of the police report. I confirmed with my ex-husband that he does not have a license, and as I'd said previously, we both think that he's been drinking and driving. I'm not sure that this is the subreddit to ask this, but is there any action I can take with my insurance company or with anyone about this?

I don't want my insurance policy going up for his stupid actions, but I spoke with them today and they said it could potentially affect my policy amount if the other party keeps pushing it. I do want them to, they deserve to get their own vehicle fixed but I also don't want to be held responsible for his stupidity.

Edit: I am in Oklahoma, Tulsa County to be specific, unsure if they may have different policies on this.

50 year old with whole life for 20 years. Worth switching to term now?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:01 PM PDT

My parents, both around 55, drank the whole life koolaid and have had their policies for 20 years. Dad pays about $2100(300k policy) a year and mom $1600 (200k policy) Dads a cancer survivor and has below average health, mom is in good health. Estimates are around $1500-2000 a year for a 30 year term life insurance. I know this sub hates whole life but is it even worth it to switch?

    Life insurance while pregnant

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 05:28 AM PDT

I'm currently shopping for term life insurance and am in my second trimester of pregnancy. My insurance agent told me it shouldn't be a deterrent and I can get insurance.

What I was wondering is however, if I go through with the application but get denied for some reason (they will likely do a health check and I am concerned about what might pop up) would it be impossible for me to get insurance in the future after a rejection?

P.S. Specifically concerned about cholesterol. I have a high result from a previous blood test prior to pregnancy no other history. And pregnancy makes those levels go out of whack anyway so my doctor won't necessarily test or treat it now.

    Edit: Location PA, US

My wife and I file our taxes separately, can she still qualify for Medi-Cal in CA?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 05:52 PM PDT

My wife has been unemployed for the last year, her income was only about $4,000 before she was let go. Can she still receive MediCal? We are married but file our taxes separately.

I'm a Ph.D student, and have the University's health insurance, but it would be about $4,000 for the whole year if I want to add her to my plan as my dependent. MediCal would save us a lot of money.

How do personal injury attorneys fight to get the most money in a car accident settlement?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 10:13 AM PDT

I'm curious as to what all goes into this as I know the seriousness of the injury is a factor. What are the other factors or things an attorney can do to try and get the most money, or does the settlement solely depend on how bad the accident is? Ps I live in Louisiana, idk if that can change anything

RLI Umbrella insurance says lost wages is not covered under excess UIM/UM?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 07:57 AM PDT

    Hi,

I have my auto and renter's policy through GEICO. I recently bought an umbrella policy from RLI via GEICO. I am interested in excess UIM/UM as well. But the sales representative tells me that lost wages are not covered under UM/UIM.

    1) If lost wages are not covered, then excess UM/UIM is only used for bodily injury? 2) Is there any other umbrella insurance provider that covers current and future lost wages under excess UIM/UM? 3) What does excess UIM/UM actually cover?

    Thanks.

Do I need to buy insurance for my new car that I plan on not using and letting it sit in my garage for a month?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 04:23 PM PDT

I bought a new car that I plan on keeping in my garage until I sell my old car. Until then, I plan on using my old car to get around since it's the one covered by insurance. I told my insurance company that I bought the new car so I could get an idea on prices, but they told me I need insurance for both cars.

It's going to be a busy time for me at work, so I do not have time to sell my old car yet, and I'm not sure how long it will take to actually sell, so I'd estimate the new car will be sitting in my garage unused for about a month. (I didn't even drive the new car from the dealership to my house since the dealership delivered it to me.)

My insurance agent has repeatedly contacted me to get insurance on my new car, and they automatically gave me complimentary insurance for a week on my new car without confirming with me first. They probably wouldn't have known about my new car if I hadn't called them for a quote.

Do I need insurance for my new car if it's going to sit in my garage for the time being? Also, what is the likelihood my agent would be able to cancel or move the complimentary insurance they gave me on the new car so that it can be implemented at a later time? (The dealership I bought the car from wants me to bring the new car in so they can replace a part.)

    Edit: I live in California.

    HSA Rejection of Crown Claim

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 04:18 PM PDT

Had crowns start in December 2019. Crowns were delivered in January 2020. HSA provider is rejecting the claim.

Is the claim only valid in 2019 because the process started in 2019 even thought the crowns were delivered/installed and paid off in 2020?

    Hate asking this question but

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 12:22 PM PDT

If I start a job, complete the 90 day probationary period and then leave a week after my insurance kicks in, would I still have it until the end of the month through COBRA?

I hate having to ask that, but I'm at a new, very toxic job that has been really bad for my mental health. Need to leave but also need to see a doctor for some things before I do

    Question on in-network costs

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 03:37 PM PDT

    Texas

I have a really good dental insurance that I've been wanting to use on braces.

I was told the charge would 6500.

with my insurance, I can use an in-network provider (3 tiers of savings) and they will cover 80% of the contracted costs.

The dental office is telling me that the insurance will only cover 3800 and I need to pay the rest.

When I called the insurance, they said the contracted cost is 4750 and confirmed that 80% of that is 3800 (rough estimates on numbers).

I called the dental office back and they said no, that the codes are different and there's multiple codes so it's not 80% of the 6500 (which I didn't think it was), it's 80% off of something else that equals 3800. They were a little shifty on the details and said they don't have a billing department, the front desk does this and she'll have to call me back.

My question: if they're telling me I owe $2700, instead of the $950, is this insurance fraud or is there something I"m missing?

How will a tree house affect my HO insurance?

    Posted: 26 Oct 2020 02:40 PM PDT

I know insurance companies don't like clients with tree houses. But what exactly is going to happen if I get one? Am I going to be dropped or am I merely looking at a rate increase? Does the location of the tree house matter at all? This is in New Hampshire if it matters.
