    Roofer damaged duradeck

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 09:20 PM PDT

    Edit. Location is B.C. Canada

We had our roof done recently, they did a good job. However, one night they left some flashing on the roof overnight and the wind blew it off. One piece fell on the deck and left about a 4-5 inch slice in the duradeck.

We had a duradeck installer come look at it and he said he would not be able to patch it since the deck is about 6-7 years old and he wouldn't be able to color match. Also a patch would be ugly since it would have brown torch marks all around it and said it would only last a couple year max before it started to leak. He recommended a full replacement that would cost about $5k

The owner of the roofing company was not happy with this assessment and said he would come by patch it himself. We're not about to let him do that, basically it would look like crap and of course we'd rather go with the professional duradeck installers opinion.

Our home insurance will likely cover it but we would have to pay 1k deductible. My plan is to let the roofer know that we will get the work done under our insurance and he can deduct the 1k off the roof invoice (currently unpaid) . Or he can get it covered under his insurance (not sure if he has any) and pay his own insurance companies deductible.

Does this sound like a fair way to present it to him? I am a tradesman myself so the last thing I want to do is screw over another tradesman, but I also don't want to get screwed over with an ugly patch job on our nice deck. We spent a lot of money on this deck when we moved in and want to get it properly repaired.

Just wondering what I should do here.

    Thanks,

Is there a reason a new potential vehicle doubles my rates?

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 12:03 AM PDT

I'm insured by Geico in FL.

I currently drive a 2010 BMW M3. I own it outright and have full coverage with $500 ded comp and collision.

I'm considering trading in that car for a 2014 BMW X5. Bluebook value on both cars is almost dead even the same.

I checked a quote to replace the vehicles keeping all coverages exactly the same. I have a spotless driving record, no tickets or at fault accidents.

Right now I'm paying about $700 every 6 monthd The quote for the X5 is just shy of $1200 for 6. Is this normal for my insurance to almost double for a vehicle a few years newer with roughly the same market value?

Insurance is opting to repair my car..

    Posted: 14 Oct 2020 05:32 AM PDT

So I hit a median, and, long story short, caused over $7000 with of damage. I'm okay, no one else was involved, and insurance is covering it, however:

Since my car is being repaired, that means my car will be worth significantly less. Is there a possibility of being compensated for that? I know it was my fault, but I've never been in an accident before, and I've heard of people being compensated for diminished value.

On the subject of diminished value, I will be needing a new transmission, and was told that I would have to pay for the diminished value of my transmission based on the miles I put on it, 11,000 -- he said I'd be on the hook for $300ish for the new transmission. I want to keep my old transmission, (obviously not in my car) if that's the case. I'm sure it's worth something. Or can I sell it back to insurance? Or do I not have a choice in this?

That's about all I can think of!

If my insurance company goes bankrupt, what will happen to my policy?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 07:23 PM PDT

So, if the insurance company that I have a permanent life insurance policy with go bankrupt, can I claim the money I already paid? Can I continue to buy a policy at another company at a relatively equal premium and not get punished for buying it too late? Some reading on the internet told me that the state could go in and sort it out. But I'm still confused. Like, will I continue to pay and claim later? Thank you for your time and have a good day. Edit: I'm in Ohio, US

Tips for how to speak with insurance company in not-at-fault accident?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 08:49 PM PDT

    U.S., CT

GF and I were in an accident. She was driving and ruled not at fault. However the other guys insurance only wants to pay 80%, placing 20% of the blame on her for speeding. We made the mistake of giving the insurance company a recorded statement in which she says she definitely wasn't going over 45 but we're not sure how fast exactly. Well, the speed limit in the location of the accident is 35 and they are trying to use the recorded statement as evidence that she was partly at fault for speeding.

Just today we got the official police report and it reports our speed as 35 mph and that she had no contributory actions to the accident. For what it's worth, the other driver even admitted fault at the scene to us and to the officer.

So, tomorrow she is calling the other driver's insurance. How do we deal if insurance still tries to lean on her recorded statement in order to avoid paying full compensation?

    Thanks :)

P.S. We learned our lesson not to give off-the-cuff answers on a recorded call while drinking on the couch on a Friday. It sounds incredibly stupid that we did that in the first place...but we were both still shook up from the crash and trying to calm down with a couple ritas...sigh.

Insuring a Car in New York...Where to Start?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 08:04 PM PDT

I have a car in NY that has been sitting in a driveway for some time but I'd like to get it back on the road. It is not registered, does not have NY plates, and is uninsured. What do I tackle first? I feel like this is a chicken and egg situation. I need insurance before I can drive it, but I need to register it before I can get insurance, but I need to drive it to an inspection site in order to register it. Thoughts??

Is waiting my lawsuit to be settled before getting another medical treatment to avoid medical subrogation considered fraud?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:24 PM PDT

I was in a car accident 2 years ago. The case is in litigation and hopefully will be done by end the year.

Early this year, I went to 2 doctors to get medical treatments for my injury. I told them my injury was from my car accident. Long story short, insurance found out and sent me (which I forwarded to my lawyers) for subrogation.

My lawyer said this is legal and common. He also told me while I'm with another health insurance (different company than the one that asked for subrogation), any further medical treatments I get while the case is still in litigation will be subrogated.

He said that after the case is settled and i seek treatments, the insurance will no longer be able to ask for subrogation for any medical treatments. is this true?

My injury is back pain/spine. While it's painful, it's somewhat manageable by using heat pad/pain killer etc. However, I'd like to get another scan of MRI and another opinion of a doctor. If I wait until after the case is settled to seek medical treatments, is this fraud? Can the insurance still file subrogation then?

Dad’s been paying home insurance on a property he hasn’t owned in 3 years.

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:33 PM PDT

Hi all, First time posting here. This question is for Ontario, Canada home insurance. I've recently started helping my dad with his finances because of he's declining condition.

I found out he has been insuring a condo he sold in April of 2017 till now. Luckily I found all the documents related to the sale of the condo.

My broker just got back to me today and stated that they can only backdate till April 2020 (the policy renews in November).

The reason they have given is system limitation. Is there anything I can do to get this premium back for my dad?

Pay out a claim with TD Insurance in Canada

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 05:43 PM PDT

I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to pay off a claim with TD insurance. I've filed 2 claims where both were considered an at fault (1 being from black ice and one because my door hit some concrete because of a gust of wind when opening the door). Because of the 2 claims and a speeding ticket from 2.5 years ago. I'm considered a high risk driver even though one of those claims I wasn't even driving but getting out.

I was just wondering if anyone know of a way to pay off a claim with TD insurance(the claim was made in New Brunswick) also. Anyone have any recommendations of insurance companies in Canada that would be relatively cheaper? Since I'm being quoted about 6k at the moment.

    Thanks in advance guys!

    Homeowners insurance need by Friday

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 08:36 PM PDT

I'll be closing on Friday and I still haven't gotten my homeowners insurance.

    I'm torn between 3 companies:

Philadelphia contributionship offers the lowest annual around 650

    Amica is about 1500

    Farmers 1200

    House is worth 450k

Why would the first one cost so much lower.?

Two accidents in a week and no pay out?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 10:19 AM PDT

About three weeks ago I was rear ended on a thursday. I had relatively minor damage. On Friday I went and got two estimates done and contacted the other driver who basically told me to fuck off. On sunday I called his insurance company to file a claim.

Monday the insrance company call him to initiate a claim and he does admit to rear ending me. Later on monday "someone" comes to my house in the middle of the night and crashes in the same corner of my car causing substaintial damge.

The second accident won't get paid for. However, they still owe me the money from the damage he caused in the first accident. The company required me to submit a ton of extra photos (they demanded current photos of the car post second accident, as well as a bunch of photos of the front end of my car). I submitted everything they asked for 10 days ago but they are refusing to approve a pay out. How long should this take? I cannot drive my car at all until I get it fixed because the whole rear end is smashed in and my bumper in literally sitting in my hatchback.

The damages I was asking for are documented in photos at the scene of the original accident and two detailed estimates, and only total about $1100 so it's not like I am asking for an insane amount of money.

    I am in Alberta

Edit: This accident happened on September 10th so we are more than a month out. Every delay has been caused by them constantly kicking it back to me demanding some other irrelevant photo.

How much should I expect total loss of kitchen

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 12:00 PM PDT

My kitchen was totally destroyed in a pipe burst situation. The midagation specialist is currently in the process of ripping EVERYTHING down to the studs out. I'm currently looking for flooring and cabinets quotes, and was hoping someone could give me a ball park of what I'll be able to spend. The old cabinets were hardwood the sink was cast iron, the counters were laminate and the floor was pergo. I just don't want to have to pick different things if they give me a low quote. Thanks

    Bankers Life reputation and careers?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:09 PM PDT

I recently requested an interview at a local Bankers Life (one of the only insurance firms hiring in my area) and have been doing a little research on the company. It didn't take very long on the phone before the sales manager said I was "hired" - making me think that they hire anyone with a warm body.

I have found a couple things showing unethical trainings, and many negative experiences from people working there all around the country.

Can anyone confirm this? What is their reputation in the industry? Is this a ethical, reputable place to work?

I'm canceling a car insurance policy and going to another. Does my old insurance company owe me any money?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:35 PM PDT

I seem to remember somewhere on my policy seeing something like a balance on my account. I can't seem to find it now, but I don't want to leave this insurance company when they owe me money. Is that a thing? Or did I just dream it?

    IUL Black Hole

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:29 PM PDT

Hello everyone. I was sold a IUL a little over a year ago and was told all these wonderful things about how it was going to be my own person piggy bank and safety net. However, I quickly started to get hit with little "truths" as i went to use my piggybank account. 1) The IUL was fully funded with ~$20k but i cant touch a cent of that. 2) The surrender value is 0 for the fist 10 years or until the premiums paid equal the money i have poured into it. So i reached out for advice and was told that i can transfer the money into a "similar product"

The question i have no is there a "similar product" that will allow me to cancel and get my money back ?

if not, Is there something i can transfer the money into that would actually provide a value to me since my employer provides life insurance?

I feel stuck and lost and out $20k with nothing to show for it. Any help/ guidance is appreciated.

Accident with Invalid car insurance? How do we proceed?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:19 PM PDT

Husband was driving MIL vehicle when he was hit by another person. I was present in the car at time of accident. We received the other person's insurance and went to file a claim again their insurance. We filed a claim, their insurance contacted my husband and I as we were present at time to accident.

After telling them what happened, they found their driver at fault, however also found the car's insurance invalid because they said the insured person car falsified information to retain insurance and on the claim. Therefore they said they weren't going to cover the claim.

So now what? MIL said she was going to contact her insurance, however now if we go through her insurance then we'll have to pay a deductible.

    Multiple questions:

    1. Do we proceed to go through MIL insurance for the claim?
    2. Why/how are they able to decline our claim after the accident and state that the insurance isn't valid?
    3. Is there any other way to proceed without going through MIL insurance?

I should also note the following: 1. Insured person was not present at accident however claimed to be driving. 2. Insurance is not even sure if the person driving was licensed

    Thank you in advanced.

    21 y/o needing car insurance

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 02:09 PM PDT

I'm 21, and needing to get car insurance as a secondary driver for my parent's vehicle.

I completed driver's ed using their company car, and got my G license using my parent's car (Ontario). I didn't know I needed to be added to the insurance at the time of taking the test, but I do now if I want to use their car.

I haven't driven since receiving my full license since I know I'm not covered. Since I know I'm not on the agreement for insurance, and need to be added as a secondary driver, how do I explain this situation when getting quotes?

Does my driver's ed experience come up on my license when they quote me? Will my quotes be higher since I don't have driving history, apart of me having my full license? I got my G full license at 19 y/o.

My mother is required to add me to her car insurance policy even though I do not drive?

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 01:57 PM PDT

Basically the title, I'm 21 and live with my mom. I have my license, but I do not own a car, nor do I drive my moms car anywhere. Even if we are going somewhere together, she drives, not me. She is dealing with some car stuff right now and just called liberty mutual for one reason or another. They told her that she is required to put me on her insurance policy (about 2000$ a year more) which she cannot afford. She basically told them she would be switching insurance companies due to this. I am wondering if we should expect this policy at other companies, and if so, if there is some loophole to get out of it, or if it would be such a bad thing for her to just not tell the company that we live together. I understand the policy exits on the off chance that somebody in the same household drives a family members car, but the fact is that I really don't drive at all, (I would in an emergency but that's it) and 2000$/year is just not worth it for that 1/1000 chance I need to drive somewhere.

Edit: I'm in Massachusetts, thanks bot.

    Progressive Auto Insurance Quote

    Posted: 13 Oct 2020 12:48 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I am in the process of switching auto insurance and i am considering progressive direct (the online one). I have a quote where i would pay $800 if i paid in full for a new policy today but I also see a different 6 mo price listed where it says "+ 5 monthly payments of $160 (ish) (Total $900) ". I'm also seeing two different monthly prices for my policy, the "start today" price is 80 a month and then 160 a month. Im assuming the first month is 80 then every month afterwards is 160?

If I were to buy this policy, and pay $800 today for 6 months would my next bill in 6 months be the same price I paid today or would my premium go up once i got my next bill because im no longer a 'new customer'.

This is assuming i don't have accidents, tickets or make claims at all within the next 6 months. I currently have a clean record and have never made a claim. I live in Michigan if that matters.

    Thanks
