Posted: 03 Oct 2020 10:25 AM PDT I'm been doing some serious thinking about my business the past few months. I've just come to the realization that my window cleaning and pressure washing business (of 2 yrs exactly) probably isn't going to pay me a livable, comfortable wage. I know I could keep putting money into it — into marketing: facebook ads, SEO, website optimization, and so on. I'm not content with making 40k or so a year. I thought I could make 60k a yr give or take. With taxes and expenses it doesn't seem doable anymore. So now I'm thinking wtf do I do now. I live at home. I can't afford to move out. I kind of can... but I'd be in an apartment scraping by. I have enough money to go to school... I've always hated school but the thought of being stressed to the max and making lower income is making me feel like shit. I just don't know what the fuck to do. [link] [comments] |
Want out of my business but partner doesn’t have the money to buy me out. What to do Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:47 PM PDT I am 50% owner of a small creative services business. I just can't stand the stress or the constant grind anymore and want out, but my partner wants to continue on. If he doesn't have the capital to buy me out then what happens? It's been several years of hard work and sweat equity and I hate to just hand that over. Anyone have experience with this kind of situation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:24 PM PDT I'm limited on marketing monies since we just started and have no sales yet. I'm building my audience on Instagram. But now what?? How else can I drive traffic to my site. [link] [comments] |
Advice for graduate freelancer? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:44 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm about to graduate in Artificial Intelligence and have started Freelancing because I've struggled to get a grad job due to COVID I guess. Im about to publish my portfolio and I'm offering services in Web development/ Data Analysing & Research. Can someone offer me some advice on how to expose my brand / how to get clients? Thanks In advance! [link] [comments] |

How do you catch fire and get hungry again after burnout? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:10 PM PDT I am struggling, my to do list is so absolutely daunting, partially because I'm so burnt out I can't even do the bare minimum to get by... Things are not looking good, how do I get that fire back that I had 3-4 years ago? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 05:32 PM PDT Hello everyone, I need some advice as the internet is currently throwing a lot of info my way. I recently decided to do production pottery full-time as I lost my job due to the pandemic. So currently a newbie in the self employed group. As soon as I begun this journey I have: Obtained an LLC, EIN and a banking account. I run my business ( it's a one woman operation) via e-commerce and I want to know what my next steps should be. Assuming I should acquire these license or permits next but not sure about it . As a new business are these my next steps and am I missing anything else that's required to fully run a proper online business legally? Next steps:

Questions about opening an outdoor gear/apparel business. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 11:26 PM PDT Hi all, I am looking to start an outdoor/sports gear retail business in Canada. I have a couple items that I manufacture myself and would like to have products from other brands to have more options for customers. If anyone owns an outdoor gear store I would appreciate messaging you for other questions!

Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:07 PM PDT Should I do Etsy or poshmark for custom bleached shirts? I know it's handmade so many may say Etsy. Pros and cons? Also do Etsy sellers often use their own shipping site (shippo/pirate ship) instead of Etsys offered shipping options [link] [comments] |
Online art/sticker business help Posted: 03 Oct 2020 07:53 PM PDT Hi there everyone! I'm keeping this on a throwaway account until I'm actually serious about this. I'm thinking of starting an online business of selling art (I'm a beginning artist the drawings I do are basic) and I have seen on many tik toks people turning their art into stickers. I have no idea where to start but I do know I am not ready to print or ship out anything due to limited funds at the moment so I'd want to sell my art online. Any ideas where I could do that? Also could I get some honest critique on my sketches so far? How I could improve and what I need to change. I'm not totally sure if this post would fit in this subreddit but I do plan on at least selling online. I can message anyone with my sketches or ideas if interested. [link] [comments] |
Hear Ye, Hear Ye. Financial questions coming down the tube. Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:57 PM PDT What's up yall? For the last month or so myself and a friend have been getting set up on a mobile auto detailing business. Not too bad of a gig, we can pick our own hours and make as much money as we want to work. And the demand around here is anything but fleeting. There are, however, some incredibly confusing aspects to running a (legal) small business for a first-timer. Mainly in finances and staying on the good side of the IRS. Definitely don't want to screw with them. Let me include: Before I started this business I had worked at a restaurant that automatically withheld my taxes where I would file a return in December with my W-4. How do I actually pay taxes? Seems like a stupid question but I have NO CLUE how to do it. The income from the business isn't being withheld and sent to the government, so how do I give it to them? Is there a proper way to pay myself and my partner in a partnership? I'm aware we could just transfer money out of the account but that seems ~too~ easy. I know we can't put ourselves on payroll, until we have an LLC-type formation. I'd love to hire an accountant but we don't have hire-an-accountant money. If not the answer, does anybody have any helpful resources to point me to? Thanks guys. [link] [comments] |
Google Reviews from Genuine Customers with False Information Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:55 AM PDT I have a pissed off customer going on every platform out there, posting horrendously negative reviews. It has already started impacting our business. This was a pain in the ass customer who was impossible to please. Their requests were impossible to placate, so in the end we told them to move on and take their business somewhere else. The customer starts going on every platform and claiming that nobody at the facility wears masks and was endangering their health. Do I have any recourse ? A cease and desist letter would do nothing. Can I sue ? [link] [comments] |
Filed LLC tax form as “Final” by mistake Posted: 03 Oct 2020 02:37 PM PDT So this year, while filing the tax forms (Form 1065) by myself, I ended up marking the form as "Final" only to realize that we are only supposed to mark the tax return as final if it is the last filing the LLC will ever do. What are my options now? Just file as if nothing has happened the next year? Take this opportunity (and the fact that we have not collected the dues from our client yet) and dissolve this LLC and open a new one with a new name (although that sounds like a lot of work, with getting the new FEIN, bank account, etc.)? Or do I have to do something prior to filing taxes next year? Additional info: We are a 4 partner LLC in MA with an annual income of ~20K and we file our taxes as pass-through to give each partner a K1 form. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 06:20 PM PDT Looking for anyone else in the lash business or just helpful entrepreneurs in general! I have my own business selling strip lashes. I have my own website set up through Shopify and an instagram page. I'm trying to really get on top of this PR/Ambassador thing, it's extremely important to me (because PROMOTION👏🏻) but I'm not sure how to go about a few things. I currently have 5 ambassadors who I've sent 2 free pairs of lashes to each this past month and they have been promoting them wonderfully. But that's about as far as I've gotten with it! I want them to stick around so I've been trying to decide on how to go about discount/promo codes and what I should be providing my ambassadors in return for promoting my products. What do you personally do or what are your thoughts on: -How much of a personal discount to give my ambassadors if they ever want to buy from my site? (And do I create one general code to give to all of them to use or separate codes?) -How much of a discount should my ambassadors promo codes be for that they give out to their followers? And should I set these up as one time use discount codes on Shopify or make it where their followers can use their code every time they purchase? -Should I be sending free lashes and supplies to my ambassadors monthly or more/less often? -Do you (or have you ever thought of) using an app that pays ambassadors a certain percent of each sale that's made using their code? Or is that just something to think about down the line? I've had in my head I'll send my PR's 2 free pairs of lashes a month, give them promo codes for 10% off to give their followers, and give them all a code to use for 20% off themselves whenever they want to purchase. But I'm not sure if all that sounds good, especially if I have sales for 20% off often. Then why would people want to use any of these codes if they're less?🤦🏼♀️ Sorry for the lengthy post, but thank you for your time reading it! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:20 PM PDT I have been wondering about that. There is lots of hype out there about what AI could do for Small Businesses. The roadblocks are clear, not enough data, resources, expertise, etc... Most of the major business app vendors claim that they have been "baking" AI into their apps. What actual challenges has AI help solve? What measurable impact and ROI have those solutions provided? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 09:33 AM PDT Hello! I used to run a podcast called Weekly Collective - A Business Podcast For The Rest Of Us. The idea was to have a show that discussed more relatable topics in a more casual environment (avoiding giant tech companies, buzzwords, self-promotion, weird flexing, etc) - something I couldn't find when I was looking for a show to listen to myself. I stopped doing the show pretty early on, but my newly-found free time has given me another opportunity to take a stab at it! I personally work better and stay more motivated when I have something relevant playing in the background, but I couldn't find anything that I clicked with - and that's how the show was born. I'd love for you to check it out if this seems like something you'd be interested in. What I'd also really like is to answer any questions you might have (to the best of my ability) on the show - as well as host interviews with relatable business owners! If you have any questions that you'd like answered on the show feel free to comment or PM them! Thanks for reading, and I hope this doesn't feel self-promo-y (even though it very much is). I'm here to share the show, but I assure you this isn't one of those big complicated roundabout ways for me to try to make a sale/promote my course (lol) in the very end. Thanks again! You can find the show here: [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 04:44 PM PDT Hi r/smallbusiness! X-post from r/legaladvice So my wife and I are manufacturing/process engineers by trade. One of our best friends started a small business this past year and we have casually given advice and recommendations on their supply chain, found vendors, suggested improvements etc that have all been well received. Our friends are really pleased with our work and wanted to bring us on as consultants/advisors and are willing to give equity in exchange for services. All of this is new to us but I was hoping to gain some insight in terms of appropriate steps. Should we file as an LLC? Types of legal agreements that need to be drafted? We're in california. Thanks! UK eco packaging recommendations Posted: 03 Oct 2020 08:28 AM PDT Anyone in the UK using eco packaging? We're starting an online retail store and we'd like our packaging to be eco-friendly and bio-degradable. We're looking for eco boxes and tapes that can be customized (our own print). What is the best software for me? Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:54 PM PDT I'm taking over a battery business. I need to keep track of buyers information for warranty purposes. I also plan to sell used cars and carry the note. I will also need to keep track of costs for a vehicle as well as payments and balances owed. What is an inexpensive software program that will help me accomplish this? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Oct 2020 01:25 PM PDT I am wondering if there is a good software package for being able to estimate ones tax liability. I have a complex tax situation with multiple K-1's, significant stock sales (STCG and LTCG), various retirement plans that are subject to limits, etc. I'd like to be able to run scenarios independent of my accountants through the year. I assume this would be a need others here have encountered. [link] [comments] |
