My business is going well so far but my confidence has completely been shot down. I feel so stupid. How do I keep going as the founder?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:11 AM PDT

My family member said this to me today:

You need to find a job. You don't know what you're doing.

You have failed to compete in the job market that's why you want to start a company.

You're just confused. That's why you're trying to start a business in a place with no competition.

You're young and naive. You need to listen to what older people say.

Basically he berated me and made me feel sooo stupid for attempting to be an entrepreneur.

I know these words shouldn't bother me but now they do. I've failed to dream. I feel so stupid. I feel like I'm way in over my head. Like why do I think I'll make this work... The truth is I've completely lost my motivation to keep dreaming and keep moving on after this conversation. I feel like I'm dumb and I don't know what I'm doing. Like My ambition is just blind. Naive.

Business wise, everything has been going okay. Getting more people to join the team and alot of customer interest.

I just don't believe in myself anymore. I feel like a fool. I feel powerless.

What did you entrepreneurs do when you encountered people who said such things to you? I want to lift my spirits up so I can start dreaming again like I can do this... To keep going. How can I keep going?

Building my own food ordering platform

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:53 AM PDT

I live in a country where services such as Grubhub or Doordash aren't popular yet and only work in big cities. There is only one big service that is similar to them and operates throughout the country. Let's call them GoFood.

I'm thinking of building my own food ordering platform and start offering it to restaurants in my town. They basically all cooperate with GoFood for one reason only and that is to get orders online. Each restaurant has their own logistics covered (by owning car and employing a driver).

The only edge my service would have against GoFood is I can offer lower commission because I don't have big overhead expenses unlike competition.

There is a new company coming to my country with the same goal as I have and I got an opportunity to work for them. The pay is not bad but the commission is like one 100th of what I could be making if I decided to run this by myself. I've been thinking about this idea before and this company just proves my point there is a market for a competitor.

What do you think? Should I join forces with a company that has everything already worked out and is ready to partner with restaurants or should I risk it and try to build it myself?

Have a small internet based business, wanting to know the best way to go about having an international partner.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 12:15 PM PDT

I am in the USA and he is in France.
I'm working on the client-code end of things, and my partner is working on the website end. We want to have all purchases basically get distributed to both of us (as up to this point we have been operating independently), but I have no idea the best way to go about this.

We are both just selling as ourselves currently (people pay us directly through PayPal, Bitcoin, etc.), so I'm not sure how to transition to a shared form of selling. Since it's a small operation (something like 10k total income a year max) neither of us have an actually registered business or anything.

    My 2 main issues are
    1. The best way to set up a shared account that we can both be paid out from with minimum fees
    2. How to handle taxes related to this.

Our current idea is to set up a shared PayPal business account, but since we don't have an "official" business I'm not sure how that would work. And if we wanted to create an official one, I have no idea where to start considering I'm in USA and he is in France.

Asked Uncle for advice, not sure how to feel?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 05:59 PM PDT

Currently I'm in University for a major in Accounting. I want to have my own Business after graduating and I asked my uncle for advice.

He is a millionaire, He owns a accounting firm and a couple franchises. He was making around 200k at 22. He now makes around 700k-800k yearly.

I asked him for advice and he told me " just hire somebody else to do the work, here's what we gotta do, you graduate with your Business degree and get a office space for rent, start a bookkeeping firm, hire an employee and let him do the bookkeeping, you go out and hustle, find clients, focus on marketing and management. You have to work smarter, not harder. Don't listen to what others say about getting getting experience and being young, it's all bullshit"

    Is my uncle right?

How can I monetize or keep an audience interested in my service/industry during an off-season?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 11:27 AM PDT

I provide automotive detailing services in Quebec, Canada. For those unaware, we have some of the worst winter conditions in North America.

Terrible temperatures, ice, hail, large amounts of road salt, etc. All this to say that my service rev drops from around 5-10k per month to $0 between mid november to early march. My last jobs are pre-winter prep/protection packages.

I don't mind the complete drop in revenue because I'm also a student so I usually use my off-season to study & prep for next season (finding ways to improve customer service, improving website, learning new services/marketing skills, testing new techniques & products, etc).

However, my social media completely flat-lines in November until I start back up in March. I have no content to post because I'm not working on any customers' vehicles, and quite frankly I don't think people would care to see what work I'm doing in the winter because my work is highly irrelevant during this time.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should be handling social media during an off-season like this?

Is it bad practice to ask if any employees can quit?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 08:10 PM PDT

Like if you have 6 employees but can only financially support 5, is it bad practice to get them all together explain the situation and see if any of them want to/are willing to quit so that I don't have to let go of one of them? No point in firing someone if it turns out somebody else was going to be leaving soon or was willing to go in the first place. I don't want to let go of the wrong person.

Is this just something you don't do and you have to just deal with the consequences of firing someone?

I can build and host a pre-launch landing page for you to validate your market and problem

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:21 AM PDT

While working on my start-up, I've decided to take on some paid consulting work that is backed-up by my own experience validating ideas/markets/problems. Please PM me if this is of interest to you.

Basically, instead of spending time and money buying templates, setting up servers, etc... I would do that for you, fast. This would allow you to very quickly decide whether or not a problem is worth solving.

Being a business and technical founder, I can help you on both sides.

From a technical point of view, I can build and host a pre-launch landing page for your product/idea.

    • The landing page would contain elements such as:
      • What's the problem you're solving
      • How you're solving it
      • An email form to sign users up to a waitlist or for potential users to show interest
      • A set of sharing buttons to help people spread the word
      • A section that calls on users to leave their feedback through a survey
    • The landing page would come integrated with Mailchimp for mail collection
    • The landing page would come integrated with Google Analytics to track traffic and conversion
    • The landing page would allow you to promote a survey to further understand what your potential users are currently experiencing and whether they are genuinely interested

From a business point of view, I can help you further explore your idea and problem.

    • Help you define the right KPIs for your validation.
    • Help you put together a survey that is meaningful to your problem and market and that will allow you to further validate your users.
    • Give you feedback on your ad campaigns and help you track which platforms and ads are performing the best.

    How does it work?

    • You buy a domain name and set up a Google Analytics and Mailchimp accounts as per the guide I will share with you
    • You provide any screenshots or mock-ups you want included on the landing page
    • I build the landing page and submit it for your validation
    • Once validated, the landing page is pushed to production
    • While in step 3, you set-up the advertisement accounts on the platforms you intend on using (Reddit, Facebook, Google Ads), etc... and create any ad banners you want to have as part of your ad campaign.
    • I give you feedback on them and on the campaign targeting in general and you publish your ad campaign with the right links (that I would share with you).
    • From there, once every week, I provide you with a report for how the campaigns performed, this would help you understand which ads to keep and which to kill, or which platforms to keep and which to kill.

From my experience, within a month, all this could be done and you could know whether people are interested in your potential product or not and whether or not the problem actually exists and is as big as you think it is.

How to get in contact with financial coaches

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 10:14 AM PDT

Hi All, I'm interested in starting a new venture in the financial coach niche.

I'm right now at the stage that I'm trying to figure out what are the needs that are unserved and wondering what are the best ways to get input.

    So far I thought about:

    Finding a financial coach forum

    Direct emailing /calling

Was thinking about a survey but not sure how can i get people to fill it.

If anyone has recommendations let me know.

Too many online meetings and you are tired of taking notes? Here is ReChord Ai-Powered Note-taking tool.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 09:02 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I have already posted this on Reddit earlier about our product. We have been working on this from the last 4 months and we have been getting some great users feedback and suggestions.

Here is a quick background of the product - ReChord is an AI-powered tool that connects with your online meeting platforms like Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, Zoom Meetings, Webinars etc and at the of the meeting it gives you a summary, highlights, action items, full transcript, speaker information etc.

Since our 1st BETA campaign on Reddit, we have learned a lot and improved the tool a lot.

Here are the improvements in the 2nd and final BETA phase.

    1. Introducing Zoom webinar support. So now you can use our AI bot for your Zoom webinars.
    2. Scheduling the BOT for a future date and time. If you don't have Google Calendar, no worries with a click of a button you can schedule our AI bot.
    3. Now the BOT joins the calls in just 10 seconds instead of 4 minutes.
    4. Now the system is more stable.
    5. Improved action items, the system detects the action items much better with improved efficiency.

What are the best cases for using ReChord ?

    1. If you have too many calls and you need to automate the notes at the end of the meeting, ReChord is there for you.
    2. Organising Zoom webinars and need to get the full transcript along with the speaker information, ReChord can do that for you.
    3. You are in sales or business development, too many calls and need to go back to your meeting recording, ReChord is your best friend.
    4. Students and tired of classroom notes, ReChord is there to take the notes for you.
    5. And much more..... explore it yourself.

This is the final BETA trial we will do for the next 2 weeks, and I am inviting early adopter and BETA users for the product. We will help you set up the account and also, show you the entire application and how it works.

Check out the improved feature of ReChord here - www.rechord.ai/beta

Please book a demo and schedule a call with us, so that we can show you the tool, and onboard you on the spot.

From selling insurances to millions in fashion within a decade - with no social media.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2020 03:10 PM PDT

My father founded a business for recycled leather jackets in the eighties, and managed to provide very well for our family. He migrated from a poorer country, and hence we all have a "migrant family business" mentality and intensity around that company.

I was always the trouble maker and megalomaniac want-it-all. Got in a big fight when I was 19, moved out, and started as a web-designer and self-employed salesman for all shit you can imagine. Managed to pay for studying, got a bachelor's degree in business studies, and started a small web development firm with friends.

A few years ago, my father and I reconnected again. His business was struggling, revenue down to 300k per year, one employee. By then, I was more mature and saw a big chance in building the family business with my knowledge of IT. We got into e-commerce, and within a few years we hit the 1M revenue. We continued to grow, but slower. 1,2M in 2018.

It was only two years ago, when everything changed. E-commerce was getting harder, Amazon marketplace a hell hole of small profit margins and competitors from Asia; all other marketplaces like eBay long dead. I was able to build a nice web shop for us, but unable to generate sales.

It was the shift to B2B that made the difference.

Targeting stores, teaming up with sales agents, and not direct customers. We leveraged our e-commerce efficiency to the B2B market. An this payed out so, so well. 1,6M revenue in 2019. 2020 and Corona? We'll easily beat 2M this year. Next year I'm betting my hat we'll get to 3M.

Why I tell you that? To let you know that strategy matters most. We are no renown brand, do no advertising, have no social media. Only good products, and a good strategy.

Of course, we would benefit from additional revenue through our own web store if we knew how to make use of social media, SEO and SEM. But we don't want more - we have enough. We love working with boutiques, are working hard to keep up, and constantly try to improve.

That's it. I am proud and felt like sharing my happy evening, as we just got 1.500 brand new jackets in stock today. Tomorrow our fantastic team of nine people will start packing and sending out to stores. And customers are waiting for thousands more - demand exceeds our supply by far. Even if it's an actual problem; it feels like the best problem on earth to have!

Seriously invested money into an APP but want to switch developers

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:48 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I hired a Devshop and put a significant amount of my savings into making an APP. Well we are near completion, and the overall product is a HOT MESS. Unfortunately I couldn't test most of the features while it was being developed, but I did have the occasional video sent that it was working as intended.

This company has also made some very popular APPs, so I figured I could trust them. Overall the APP LOOKS very nice, but the functionality is buggy at best, un-usable at worse. Basic things like password reset don't work, there are items that should have been included in the A-Z quote (it's a social networking app but no block button/ paid extra for a report button), and the Admin side, is awful at best, non-functional at worse.

I have sent a list of my concerns to the Dev team since receiving the Beta, and let them know that I am totally shocked at the level of quality for the price tag. They have assured me that they will fix it, but it's almost like it was programmed and then never tested. IT's super glitchy, freezes, and the core features that separate from most other APPS like it, look very nice, but absolutely suck in functionality.

The app by their standards is almost complete, but I was wondering if it's easy or practical to switch Devshops. Or what legal enforcement I have to either get some of my money back, or force them to do the work to a reasonable level. For reference the admin side is hooked up directly to their website.

I was thinking since it's already designed, and the features are there (just work poorly), I could hire somebody from freelancer or something to finish it up. Any little thing I ask for updated it seems like they charge and absorbitant amount of hours for, or should have been included in the original quote.

If there are any freelancers on here who think they could take on this task also let me know! I just can't believe I'm so far deep into the APP and the Password reset doesn't work!

    argh...

Looking for some feedback on an idea

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:42 AM PDT

I just recently had the idea of starting some sort of monthly subscription service based on the sale of Vinyl records. Basically, I was thinking about it sending out a sort of loot box kind of thing, consisting of 1 well known album, 3 random albums (from a chosen genre), and a single (45) from the same genre. Does anyone think this is a good idea? And if so, how would one go about organizing it?

I was Zuckerberged by my Co - Founder, What do I do Next

    Posted: 29 Sep 2020 08:32 AM PDT

So, for the past month I was working on a beta for my video call software. My Co - Founder kept pushing off signing a contract. I know that should have been a red flag, but I trusted this guy. I started to become suspicious when he was unwilling to give me and my other cofounder partial ownership of the code. So essentially I told we had to sign the contract tonight. Yesterday morning I woke up and I had a few messages from him. He's taking all of the code and creating an alternative software. What do I do next.
