    Extreme Student Loan Debt

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:22 PM PDT

My daughter just started her career as a pharmacist and her student loans are $350,000 and she has 4 kids, lots of bills, credit card debt, 2 car loans and feels the need to live in expensive housing for her lifestyle and her husband just started a business. My husband and I have been helping her a lot. I think she's even considering buying a home soon which I'm not sure will be possible with her student loans. Will she ever be able to come out on top of this?

My Fed Loans were taken back halfway into the semester

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 07:52 AM PDT

Hello, my loans and everything came in and paid for classes but in the middle of the semester they said I had reached my limit and took it all back and I now have a balance on my school account. My school is trying to help but I don't know what to do. Having no parents to cosign on any loans and living on my own.

Found myself with 90k loans suddenly, what's the best way to pay it back?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:32 PM PDT

In a bit of a situation here and would appreciate some advice. I'm 21 years old and in my final year of a medical microbiology degree. My final year is free due to a scholarship, but the rest of the years are 30,000. My dad took out a Parent PLUS loan under my mom's name (they were divorced) so all the debt is under her legally. My dad told me he was paying my degree off as I went, so I wouldn't have any student debt. My dad died recently, and it turns out he himself was in a lot of debt that he didn't tell anyone about, so recently I checked the FAFSA website, and it turns out he hadn't paid off any of it at all and had been lying about having paid it off for some reason. My mom makes next to nothing and can't afford to pay it, so whilst it's under her name, I'm suddenly going to have to pay 90k. I was really hoping to go into a PhD after this but even though I would get a stipend, I wouldn't hardly be making any money, so I don't know if that's plausible...? I guess I could try to get a job in my hometown and live with my mom but I think that would really adversely affect my mental health, so I'm going to try to avoid that. I'm open to living in an RV and am strongly considering that to save money to put towards loans. I'm really not a numbers person and I did not prepare for this to happen--I would never have gone to such an expensive university if I had known. I guess my question is... what's the fastest way I can pay this off on my mom's behalf and how? Any advice is welcome, I'm a little lost as to what to do.

EDIT: I have a great relationship with my mom thankfully, just really hate my hometown haha

Changed my name when I got my citizenship in 2017...cannot access my greatlakes account

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 11:12 PM PDT

So as the title says, my greatlakes account is in my old name and I cannot seem to access it anymore.

I tried to make a new account but the only info shows my old name and there is no edit section for the name...

does this mean I won't have to pay it back???

How do you go about finding a student loan lawyer?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 05:15 PM PDT

My student loan situation is pretty complicated, but to oversimplify...

    • my grandpa co-signed some of my private loans and now has dementia
    • I have $107,000 in debt with $70,000 being private loans
    • I graduated in 2019 and have not needed to make any payments because deferment then COVID
    • when my grandpa dies, all my private loans immediately default and/or will require multiple hoops to jump through to reinstate a payment plan

Basically I need to pay for some legal help on what to do. How do I go about finding a student loan lawyer? I've never had to hire one before.

    My Student Loan Tripled

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 08:55 PM PDT

So I have a situation, in 2006 I took 2 student loans from My Rich Uncle(I know young and dumb). About 2 years ago I was contacted by younomics about my loan. I made the mistake of applying for forbearance so I restarted my state of limitations. One loan was 3k the other was 6k now I owe about 30k. I made one payment prior to covid and haven't paid again since. Have anyone had any luck settling with younomics? Is there anything I can do to not pay triple what I borrowed or am I SOL?

    New to this loan business

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:20 PM PDT

    Hello!

I am looking to attend graduate school in about a year. I'm was fortunate and my parents paid for my undergrad so I'm very unfamiliar with the student loan process. Outside of FAFSA what are good places to get loans to pay for school? Any help is appreciated!

    PSLF and ParentPlus loans

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 06:33 PM PDT

Will PSLF only cover loans held by the person (me) with a qualifying job?

To be specific: my dad is technically the person who has the ParentPlus loan... but I pay on it every month.

Do I still qualify for PSLF forgiveness?

Tips on refinancing Direct Grad and Direct Unsub loans?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 01:50 PM PDT

I'm looking to refinance my grad school loans before COVID-19 forbearance ends. I technically don't owe until February 2021, but I have been paying as much as I can monthly.

I work in public interest and realize that, in theory, I could get my loans paid after 10 years. My balance is over $100k though, and I'd rather pay it down steadily with a negligible interest rate than watch it triple and have the PSLF fall through.

I have received the advice that I should seek to refinance through government entities rather than private entities. I would be super grateful for any advice!!

    Can't do exit counseling

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 01:12 PM PDT

To accept the loans offered by my college, I am required to complete exit counseling on the fsa website. Every time I try to progress pass the second page, I always get the message

"Sorry, StudentAid.gov is currently unavailable. We're working on fixing it! Thanks for your patience"

But I would think the website is available since I was navigating it to get to the exit counseling. Anyone else having this problem?

Do discover student loans go directly go to the school or direct deposit?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Hi, I was curious about Discover Student Loans. I did an application for a loan and they stated that it has to get certification from the school. So I was wondering does it go straight to the school funds or can it go into your direct deposit? If not, does anyone know of any loans that don't go straight to the school but into the deposit?

Free Tuition? What about people with student loans? What about people who sacrificed to pay off those loans?

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 02:14 PM PDT

So I see a lot of push in the political realm for 1) free tuition, and 2) student loan forgiveness. The way I see it, there are three main separate parties to this:

    1. Students who just graduated HS or will soon and now have the option to go to colleges for free,
    2. People who took out student loans and are in serious debt and are having trouble paying it off, and
    3. People who took out student loans and managed to pay it off, be it getting a great paying job or living in their mother's basement until they were 30 years old (living extremely frugally).

Party 1 stands to benefit the most with free tuition and student loan forgiveness is not even a thought to them because they don't have to take out loans in the first place.

Party 2 obviously wants student loan forgiveness, but I imagine a lot of them to be against free tuition at this point because that would mean that all the payments and stress they have undertaken are completely side-stepped by Party 1. Correct me if I'm wrong on this. If I'm wrong and Party 2 still wants both free tuition and student loan forgiveness, then let's say tuition could become free for students, but at the cost of not being able to forgive student debt. Would that be something Party 2 still fights for?

Party 3 tends to argue that neither should happen. They believe that, because they're not being reimbursed for all the tuition that they paid, no one else should get a free ride either. Does that make them any worse than Party 2 that wouldn't want free tuition at the cost of the government forgiving student loan debt?

Just some points of discussion. I'd like to hear what everyone thinks about the matter.

Are the IDR plans staying the same for now or there will be a new IDR plan change beginning this Oct 1 ? Making sure Everything is remaining the same for now even if you wanna get on an IDR plan later this year

    Posted: 27 Sep 2020 04:19 AM PDT

There were Some talks and proposals I head going on that beginning Oct1 this year , There will be only one Income Driven Repayment Plan only if you need or want to get into an IDR plan.

I just want to be sure that those proposals didn't go through , and for now the IDR Plans remain the same at least until the end of the year and If I need to get into one later in November , The Current IDR plans would be available to chose from.

    Thanks

Need 100k+ student loan without a co signer

    Posted: 26 Sep 2020 04:21 PM PDT

Title is basically what I need help with. I'm a 22 (M) trying to go to aviation school as a rotary pilot. I need 112k for the full cost of the school and a year worth of living expenses. I have close to 10k saved currently. It takes about a year of schooling for me to get my license. I've tried applying for a loan from multiple private lenders but they all need me to have a co signer. I would try them all if it didn't effect my score so much. I have a 710 credit score but the oldest loan I have is only two years, pushing three. I've looked into the Parent Plus loan but I don't have a parent to assist me. I don't have any siblings that could co sign for me. I have checked into grants and looked for scholarships but not finding anything that's directly applicable. Any suggestion's for finding loaning lenders that don't require a co signer?
