[California] My wife and I both work at a hospital. She caught Coronavirus. She's on work comp, but I also have to quarantine. My work is refusing to let me use my sick leave. What can I do?

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 12:51 AM PDT

Title is my question. We both work at a hospital. She's a nurse on a covid unit, and she caught covid. She's off work on WC disability and resting.

I was told I must stay home and quarantine for the next 2 weeks. I have 160 hours of sick leave saved up, but they're refusing to let me use this. They say I must use my vacation time instead.

What options do I have? I was going to file a Paid Family Leave EDD claim, but it seems like too much of a headache for a lousy 2 weeks.

Any feedback would be awesome. I thought for sure I could just use my sick leave for quarantine.

Are these reasonable car repair charges?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 08:53 PM PDT

    Hello,

Here is the supplement from the body shop in Florida: https://imgur.com/a/nwFROPB

Insurance only paid $1800 out of the $3000 and is giving me and the body shop a hard time. The body shop says that the adjuster has refused to talk to the body shop and negotiate since the beginning. I was connected to an adjuster by a rep and he said he has no authority to make changes and only pays for what the appraiser approves or denies, and would ask the appraiser to talk to the body shop. He got back to me saying that he talked to the appraiser and the appraiser said this body shop is known for overcharging. The appraiser did not contact the body shop. I wanted the appraiser's phone number but he said he talks to him only on Skype and doesn't have his phone number and only his email address. I have now emailed the appraiser to call me back to discuss the denials and am waiting.

Could you have a look at the charges I have underlined in red in the supplement and let me know if they look reasonable please? It would be very helpful.

    Thanks for the help.

Just got offered an insurance sales job, iffy on taking it. Any insurance agents here that I can talk to?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 12:23 PM PDT

I'm not asking for anyone to try and sell me, I dont want to sell anyone, I just have questions about the gig/field and I'm wondering how standard this hiring process I'm undergoing is? State is MD.

Background: with no prior insurance experience, I applied for an insurance sales job. Today I get a call and after an hour of talking to the agent she offered to send me the training links & reimburse the testing fees, no biggie. I click the links and apparently I've got to foot the $190 course (discounted from 280 with the code she provided.) Talked to a friend and he said it sounds like a pyramid scheme (she's contracted out through SF & sells SF policies as well as flood, state auto insurance, etc. But I would be a W2 employee under her.)

According to her she's moving to take over a local state farm's team in the next year & I really want to hop on this but I need to bang out the training & testing before we start, so it'll be about a month. Don't want to jump into this and be waiting a month to start and be able to pay my bills.. Thoughts?

Paid my car insurance, got cancelled for non payment.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 03:43 AM PDT

I have General liability car insurance. I had until midnight last night to pay my bill. I ended up paying it around 9:30 PM last night. I wake up this morning to see that my card was charged, but my insurance is saying it cancelled at midnight due to non payment? My question is, has this happened to anyone? And if so, should I expect my insurance to automatically reinstate once the transaction goes through? Or am I in the hole $130? Thanks in advance. (I'm in Illinois.)

I'm looking into becoming a licensed insurance agent. Need advice.

    Posted: 04 Sep 2020 02:46 AM PDT

Hello. I'm looking into becoming a licensed insurance agent. I did some research and I cannot decide which line of coverage to go for. Health, Casualty, Property, Auto etc? Which path would you guys recommend for somebody that is just starting out with no experience? I'm ready to learn but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew in the very beginning. Which license would give me the best chance of finding a job in the field so I can start growing my skills and gaining experience?

Looking for pros and cons of each path available. Thank you all in advance :)

Post-accident — independent body shop or dealer service?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:21 PM PDT

    CALIFORNIA —

My boyfriend and I got into an auto-accident, and the other driver was determined to be at-fault. We have already filed a claim with the insurance of the guy at fault. Today, we brought and left our car at an auto body shop, and the insurance adjustor plans to check the car out tomorrow. We want to trust these people — they were really kind to us, answered our many questions, and did not pressure us with anything. However, they did push us a bit to get a lawyer for personal injuries, and although we have mild whiplash, these injuries don't seem too severe.

Thus, we are a little hesitant to move forward because they suggested quite heavily we go the lawyer-route (they probably get kick-backs for referral). We are now suspicious and don't know whether to trust their advice/shop.

A close friend suggested that we bring our car to the dealership instead of this independent auto-body shop, as the cost does not matter (other driver is at-fault). The adjuster and auto-body shop will review the damages tomorrow and determine the repair cost/whether it will be totaled.

Given that we are apprehensive about the whole lawyer pressure, we are thinking of whether we should switch to the dealership before the adjuster comes tomorrow. Switching would require a lot of phone calls and logistics early tomorrow morning, and we are pressed for time, so if it doesn't matter, we would prefer to just leave it at the independent auto-body it's at right now.

    TLDR:

    1. When an insurance adjuster sees the car at the shop, does it matter what shop he/she visits, whether it is dealership or independent auto-body shop?
    2. Will the repair cost estimate be the same, more or less, i.e. if it's totaled in one place, it'll be totaled in another place as well?
    3. For the eventual repair job, is there a rule of thumb on dealership vs. independent auto-body shop?

From desk adjuster to body shop estimator?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 03:32 PM PDT

    Hey everyone,

Has anyone had shop experience, especially as an estimator? I've been offered a writing position for a major shop (caliber collision). I'm tempted by the idea of being able to make a lot of money for work you put in. Is it all smoke and mirrors though?

Would love some insight. Thank you.

Rental Car Insurance -- don't own a car

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 04:09 PM PDT

I'm renting a car in a few weeks from Hertz, and I have a Visa credit card which I used to purchase the rental. According to my Visa card, the card itself covers I guess what would be the equivalent of a collision waiver. I assume this is not primary, but this is secondary, so if I get billed, I have to go chase down my money through VISA if the rental company sends a bill on to me.

I don't own a car so I don't have auto insurance. When I get to the counter, should I decline the collision waiver and purchase the liability waiver? Pick up both? Neither?

I'm picking this up in Illinois and driving to Michigan, if it helps.

    Challenger Electic pannels

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 05:31 PM PDT

So I'm looking into buying a home from the 80s, it has a challenger electric panel which I was told it was black listed by some home insurance companies, how much does it cost to replace. And is it actually covered by home insurance or will it cost me more outside per month for having a challener electric pannel?

Allstate drivewise & long distance relationships

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:31 PM PDT

Hey everyone! My dad signed up our family for Drivewise to decrease his monthly insurance rates. However, it could not be at the most inopportune time. My boyfriend and I are in a long distance relationship in NY. He lives ~ 110 miles one way from me. I try to visit him at least 3 times a month. That's roughly about 660 miles a month. Otherwise, I don't travel --my job and classes are 15-20 minutes away. Would I be able to unplug the device and plug it back in without the insurance company knowing? We typically meet after work around 5pm, I only stay for a night and am back home usally between 1-3 pm. I would unplug it for a day. If anyone has solutions on how to get around this, please let me know. Otherwise I may have to find alternative means to get to him tomorrow.

    Thankyou!

    Roof Inspection

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 05:19 PM PDT

We had a hail storm that resulted in approx. 10 homes in our immediate neighborhood getting new roofs. Our insurance company offered $500 instead of the amount needed to replace the roof, even though our damage was identical to the other homes. Should I request a re-inspection? If they won't help us, should I ask them to withdraw the claim? I am in North Carolina.

Car insurance, injury claim, who’s paying for it?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:53 PM PDT

Recently got in a car accident, the other driver admitted it was their fault. After hours pain was present from the crash nothing severe. Went to the injury center to see a Chiropractor, then they want me to get an x-ray, my health insurance is not the best and an X-ray is not going to be cheap. I dont need any medications for major pain more like bruises and soreness, and muscle aches. I don't have broken bones or major torn skin, so is my auto insurance paying for this? What will happen if I back out from doing an X-ray, I don't have a lot of money, or the time to go to the hospital I work all night full time. I have to do a full month of physical therapy with a chiropractor.

Is the 100% at fault driver’s insurance company required to provide a rental car?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:30 PM PDT

I was in an accident yesterday where their driver swerved and side swiped the back end of my car. The first adjuster for them gave us a reservation number for a rental to replace my car while its in the shop. Barely 24 hours later after I have the rental in my possession, the rental company calls back saying the other driver's insurance will not pay for the car anymore and I must return it today when the original return date was a week from now. Within the span of 24 hours the case has changed hands three times on their part with the hid hand being the next tier of their review process as well. Long story short, no matter what, is the other insurance supposed to provide me with a rental? A cut and dry essentially rear ending accident has turned into a nightmare of endless phone calls between insurance adjusters. Thanks in advance. In Arizona by he way.

Total Loss Car...Now Left With Nothing? Should I file for something else?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 09:19 AM PDT

Shady roommate (who is now moved out) backed into my small Nissan this weekend. He hit it pretty hard and moved my car several feet. We filed through his insurance.

Insurance called to tell me it was a total loss. My car is now being taken away on Friday to a salvage lot. I am left without a car. Insurance is not going to give me any pay-out because they are paying off my car loan.

I feel that something is incorrect? How am I just left with nothing after an accident that is not my fault? I now have to come up with a whole other down payment myself to get a new car? Should I be filing for something else? The insurance company is providing me with a rental for 5 days only.

Thanks in Advance for any help or advice

    Insurance question after a wreck.

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 06:03 PM PDT

So my wife was just in a wreck. It's no question that the other driver was at fault (they admitted fault, got a ticket, it's in the collision report, etc). We have full coverage.

Normally, I'd call my insurance right away. However, one snag is that we got a check for some hail damage on the roof of the car a year or so ago. We didn't repair the hail damage since it was minor cosmetic and the car ran fine. If we go through my insurance to let them fight it out with the other driver, will they want to pay us less because of the prior hail claim? I'm especially worried because I expect the car will be totalled. As it is I have a feeling I'm gonna have to eat some to pay off the note (the car is upside down and we don't have gap coverage).

Involved in a collision without insurance.

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 05:30 PM PDT

Was driving down a Wisconsin road and a lady took a left turn out of a stop sign to the left of us. I T-boned her causing substantial damage to her car and moderate damage to my bumper and hood. No one was harmed and a cop saw the whole encounter. He mediated the situation for us and created a case file. He asked which insurance company I used. I said Geico, which was not actually covering me at the time. I re-instated my Geico insurance not an hour later. I didn't get the other persons info, just the case file that the officer said I should give to Geico. I was not at fault for the collision but I'm afraid that I will be hammered either way because I didn't have insurance coverage. If I tried to make a claim through the girls insurance company, could it make my situation worse, or would it not hurt? My other option is to ignore everything and drive with a broken bumper. Please help.

Afni is trying to collect on a an car accident that wasn't even me

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 01:24 PM PDT

I just got a letter from Afni Inc trying to collect $11,518.21 on behave of CONNECT BY AMERICAN FAMILY, for an accident that I was never part of nor was any vehicle I own part of as I only have 1 car. I called them to try and dispute and the agent on the phone stated someone who I have never met in my life was driving a vehicle that was under my name. However the agent could not even provide me details of what the vehicle was so I couldn't even verify if the car on the case was actually mine. The agents excuse was she had ~150 pages on the file and "did not have the ability to search for specific things." She told me she would note that I am disputing the claim and would give me a call later to verify the vehicle that was on the case file.

After the call I decided to do some research on the company to verify that they were legit and came a across a page by preventloanscams.org(https://www.preventloanscams.org/dealing-with-afni-collections/) On the page they advised that I should not contact them via phone and just communicate through mail and start the despite by sending a Debt Verification Letter. I have already drafted one but haven't sent it yet because I wanted to advise reddit on the situation.

Anyone have some insight on what I do now?

Edit: Also the latter has a different return address from their headquarters, so if i do send the the Debt Verification Letter which address do I send it to?

Edit 2: I am located in the United States in California

Third party injury claim - not sure what to do next

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 12:55 PM PDT

Hello, I was involved in a car accident in Atlanta Georgia in June 2019. Conditions were rainy, high congestion on a highway. It was stop and go traffic. I was fully stopped as was the person in front of me. I watched through my rear view as the driver in the car behind me was looking down, looked up, slammed his brakes and slid into me, pushing me into the car in front of me. The person behind me had a Jeep, I have a large SUV, and the person in front an Accord. Long story short, no ambulance and I drove away after the police said I could. This occurred on a Monday, by Wednesday I was in significant pain but tried to power through it. By Friday I made an appointment with an ortho surgeon. My initial complaints were that I could hold my coffee cups or my cell phone in my left hand and I could open jars/bottles in the right hand. I had PT for 4-5 months and OT for 2 months and splints for both arms. I also had the nerve test that indicated I had nerve damage in my left arm near my elbow. By January I thought I was done with this and communicated to the third party insurance company as such. At the time, all I really had left was what the OT said in terms of how slowly nerves heal. During this entire time, I never thought about getting an attorney because all that I read indicated I should need one for this. I obtained all doctors notes, PT notes, OT Notes, and detailed billing (including codes) to third party insurance by July 2020 as the person told me they were having issues obtaining these items due to COVID.

Well about 5 weeks ago I started experiencing pain again in my neck, shoulder, arm, and leg (all left side). Scheduled another appointment wit ortho who indicated it was a flare up of the same issues from last year. I have more PT and medicine as a result.

My multi-part question is this -

    1. Should I notify the other insurance company about this additional situation? I feel it's a no because of the time gap from January to late July with going to the doctor.
    2. Should I involve an attorney? I am concerned about the lack of transparency from the provider and I am wondering if it is possible that they are waiting until the 2 years pass and then I would have issues with settlement (not sure how that works)
    3. If number one is no and number two is no, can anyone provide guidance on how to get the provider to finalize this stuff? I want to reimburse my car insurance for what they paid out on my behalf for both the car and medical and I also want to pay back my employer's insurance for the part they paid as I believe they have liens in the settlement (not sure how that works either and I am an accountant by trade do I am a little weird about owing money in any shape form or fashion)
    4. Any additional insight anyone can share would be greatly appreciated as I have never been in a significant car accident and am somewhat lost.

Data - Accident: 6/2019 Car Repair: $7000 Cumulative medical : $14K State: Georgia City: Atlanta My insurance: USAA At Fault person's insurance: Encompass Police report filed - ticket given to Jeep driver Encompass said they accept fault Last communication from Encompass on July 15th stated "we have paid for but are still awaiting the medical records from XXX rehab" in which I sent electronic copies of all documents on July 17th.

Not sure what else to provide in terms of data and I apologize if it's too much information.

AETNA thinks I still have a BCBS policy that ended months ago and is denying claims for it

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 08:40 AM PDT

    Hi All,

NJ if the state is needed. AETNA thinks I still have a BCBS policy that ended months ago and is denying claims for it, stating that they are the last payer. So I call and it gets fixed but it doesn't get fixed. New claims are also denied and now they are trying to pull back payments already made. 3 calls so far. The very nice agents make some change in the system and send the claims to be reprocessed, but whatever they do is not working.

What is my next step? Do I contact my HR department to lean on AETNA? Can I get past the agent to a manager who can make the change stick? Can I log some kind of trouble ticket because it is not getting fixed?

    Thanks for your help!

Help.... didn’t realize I had to add baby to my old insurance

    Posted: 03 Sep 2020 03:41 PM PDT

My husband was a resident at a NYC hospital and graduated July 1, thus lost his insurance July 1. We just had a baby June 27. It's our first kid - we didn't realize the baby wouldn't be covered under our insurance in the hospital. So we never added him to the old policy we had, because we figured it's pointless to add him to an insurance that was active for only 3 more days.

We didn't realize this was an issue until we called the hospital and realized we have a 10k bill (which was never sent to us). Hospital said by law my newborn should be covered for at least the first 30 days of his life. I called my husbands old jobs HR multiple times to add my son retroactively but they were extremely hard to reach. I called the insurance company directly and they said they should add my son, since I called 61 days after his birth and 60 days was the cut off so "they should honor it". Verbatim my insurance said that.

Then my insurance called and said they called my husbands HR and they are refusing to add my son and we need to appeal it.

I'm really frustrated and angry. Yes I wish I was more informed and did it correctly. But my husband literally sacrificed so much and was diagnosed with COVID while working extra hours at this hospital. He single handedly obtained PPE for the other doctors to prevent them from getting sick. And they're not going to add my son to the policy even though my insurance said they should?

I'm praying we win this appeal. Does anyone have any advice or seen this play out in favor of the patient. Thank you in advance.
