Where should a young guy put his money?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:08 PM PDT

I am a 25 year old guy who has decided to truly put my money to work. I live with my parents and have not a single bill to pay. Fortunately, I am in a position where I could technically lose all of it and still have a roof over my head and food at the dinner table. It seems shameful to me that I would insist on squandering my money on nonsensical things, e.g. shoes, clothes, eating out, etc.. when I could take that cash and put it to good use. These aforementioned activities do not benefit me in any way. They merely satisfy my ego when spending time with friends. Truth me told, my parents will not be around forever and at that point, I would need to start from ZERO and hope to establish some sort of foundation alone.

I do not have a bank account or a credit card, so my assumption was that before investing, I should open up a savings account and establish good credit. Would a high yield savings account help expedite the process or would a regular savings account be fine? After that, I've been eyeing the stock market and have been educating myself on it for 4 years now. The banks will not really give me a tremendous return. Thank you all for the advice!! God bless.
