{Thread} The Best Customer Support Tools For Small Business Owners - This Is My Current Stack. What Am I Missing?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 12:33 PM PDT

As a small business owner in the tech/startup space, customer support is one of the most important facets of my business.

I find myself always busy with stuff to do, endless tasks, so automation is something that I really place a premium on.
These are all the tools in my current stack. What am I missing?

All-in-one Tools (Live chat, Knowledge Base, Customer Helpdesk)

    • We've been through Zendesk, Intercom, and the likes. Currently, we're testing Help Crunch. It literally has the same feature-set and premium feel as Intercom but cheaper.

    Product Churn Tools

    • We've tried dozens of tactics on how to use customer support solutions as a first line of product-churn mitigation. Knowledge bases work great, but they still can't deliver the 1-on-1 fully personalized query resolution our customers want.
    • We've been using Scribe (by Cursive) to deliver precision onboarding support and solve product queries. It's been a godsend.

    Customer Feedback Tools

    • Again, we've tried everything from Qualaroo to Typeform surveys. Feedier, so far, is the only customer feedback tool that I found that leverages gamification to a T.

    Mention Tracking Tools

    • Monitoring brand mentions has been extremely helpful in preventing user churn and the occasional disgruntled customer meltdown on social media. Brandwatch is probably the best solution out in the market that we tested...but... you'll be paying a hefty monthly premium. I found Mention or Awario to be almost as good for a fraction of the price.

    My top 4:

PS. Goes without saying that these are NOT affiliate links.

Can I sue a designer company for “designing” me someone else’s logo?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 09:12 AM PDT

I used an internet logo design company to specifically design me a professional logo and they gave me my copy write paperwork afterwards.

After a couple years, I went to trademark it, and it came back that someone has my exact logo already, and it's trademarked by someone else.

It would seriously cost me over 25k to replace all marketing and advertising pieces.

I'm afraid if I don't change, I will get sued. But at the same time, i didn't know what I received wasn't authentic.

Do I have a case here?

    Accidentally started a business

    Posted: 27 Aug 2020 12:14 AM PDT

Hopefully this is where this goes..

About a month ago I made a big batch of beef jerky and gave a bunch out to some of my coworkers. Ive been making it for about 13 years so I've got my marinades and process down. (And yes my process does follow USDA/FDA guidelines for lethality process, packaging etc, all except the commercial kitchen aspect). Well I didn't expect the amount of demand to make more that I got. As of now I'm putting put about 30lbs of finished product a week and im still not meeting demand, and now I have employees of other companies coming to me and asking about it (were subcontractors so there's about 15 companies of comparable size at our location every day) I've always wanted to 1. Work for myself and 2. Work with food, and now its looking like my dreams might become reality, but I really don't know where to go from here. I know im running in a legally gray area (as im only selling to "friends" via word of mouth.), but I really want to make this legitimate, and at least make enough to be able to quit my dead end job and still pay bills. I guess I'm just looking for advice, or to be pointed in the right direction.

Sorry if this isnt the right place, and thanks in advance for reading the wall of text.

I live in Massachusetts, and I'm interested in a used-car business where I pay a brick-and-mortar to house my car and receive a commission when they sell my car. Advice needed.

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 09:39 PM PDT

    Howdy,

My dad's been very successful with a used-car business for over 30 years in the South, and I live in Massachusetts for 20 years now. I'm not moving back down South, but I am interested in my dad's used-car business.

My dad's able to refurbish flood cars and collision cars from car insurance auto auctions, and I could reasonably buy, for example, a 2019 Nissan Altima for $12,000.

I can't afford a brick-and-mortar operation myself, but I want to form something that's more or less a partnership with the local dealers here. I could pay them a monthly amount to keep the car, and a commission for when they sell the car.

My dad and his partners of other used-car dealers do something like this. My dad basically finances the cars that they buy for a steep interest rate. So, since the lien is on my dad's name, he technically owns the car that they sell on their car lots.

By the way, I have a used-car-dealership license, and I can cheaply ship the cars here.

What do you think about this arrangement? What do you think a reasonable partnership would be, and how do I go about and find a partner?

Would texting old customers a yr later be considered unprofessional?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:32 AM PDT

I need to drum up some business for the fall. I provide services that should be done semi annually to annually. I want to text all my old customers from last year asking if they would like (name of) services performed again to keep up with maintenance basically.

At first I was sending out hand written thank you cards with a $25 gift card to use off their next service but honestly if was taking forever to write out all these cards and hardly anyone called. I've got a list of probably 250 people and to write a thank you card and send all to the post office taking way too long.

So I was thinking of just sending a quick text instead (to the long list of people that I didn't send a thank you card to) Is this unprofessional?

Logistics of creating a truly anonymous LLC

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:55 PM PDT

A group of individuals wants to create a truly anonymous LLC to conceal member identity from the public short of a court order...because reasons.

This can be done by forming a New Mexico LLC and leaving the members' names off the Articles of Organization except for the private operating agreement.

However, there is the potential for member exposure when registering for an EIN and applying for an office lease that will be required to open a business checking account.

To maintain privacy when applying for an EIN, some sources have recommended having a trusted confidant act as a "responsible person" for the company. Does this person have to actually be listed as a member of the LLC? Is this "responsible person" open to litigation in the event of some legal problem with the company down the road, or are only the LLC members at risk?

If a member of the LLC signs the USPS 1583 required to open the mailbox and sign the lease on behalf of the business, does that make the signing member's information available in public records? If so, can someone other than a member open the mailbox and sign the office lease on behalf of the LLC?

If the lease is signed by someone other than one of the active members, does that person also have to be the one opening the business bank account or will any member of an LLC be able to do so so long as they are listed on the banking resolution?

Small Business loans for startup phase?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:42 PM PDT

    Hello,

My partner and I have been working on a startup for the past two years, and we are finally getting ready to launch.

Up until this point we have been self funded. As we start to incur expenses, we would like to have some funds available to help us cover the first year.

From what we seen, most Small Business Loans want to see some threshold of income or depth of transactions that don't make sense for a startup.

One option is to get a personal loan, but we'd like to keep the books of the company and our own personal finances separated if possible. However, some business loans seem to want a personal guarantee anyway, so I'm not sure what we gain in the end if we have to guarantee it.

Are there providers anyone is aware of that specializes in startups?

Growing pains - finding a location and doing it right

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 06:17 PM PDT

My business has shown promising growth over the last year. I know that I need more space and better equipment so I began looking for a commercial space about a month ago on my own. I think I found the ideal spot today but I'm so nervous to take this leap in my business.

I've never done this before and I feel overwhelmed with my lack of knowledge in this area. What do I need to know? Should I get a lawyer involved? How is this different from residential leasing?

Question about fleet tracking (GPS) software.

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:19 PM PDT

Small business owners of Reddit - do you mind sharing the below if it applies to you:

    1) how many vehicles do you have in your fleet? 2) do you currently use a fleet tracking software? 3) would you mind sharing which fleet tracking software do you use or have used in the past? 4) how much do you currently pay per month for the fleet tracking software? 5) would you recommend the software you use currently? If not, what do you not like about it?

    TIA 🙏🏼

I have a fleet of 8 vehicles and am looking for recommendations. I have checked out a few companies on Google but I am not that familiar with the terminology they use and I would rather go with a recommendation from folks that have used the software themselves.

I want to start a pet sitting business (and expand to have employees)

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 08:08 PM PDT

So I've been a freelance pet sitter for a bit here and there. Mostly through websites like rover and word of mouth) But I want to really turn it into a full time business.

I'm working on a website, and business cards. My plan is to gain clients through lots of low cost marketing. (Fliers, websites, search engine results etc.)

Then once I get enough clients, expand to have a few employees who would give me a small cut.

I've already kind of been grooming a few of my friends to get into pet care and they seem interested in the idea of collaborating.

How should I pay them? (Legally) Could they be freelancers? Or do I need to make them employees? That part seems complicated to me.

And I know managing people is it's own headache, so maybe I should just keep it as a solo operation?

Also, is it ever a possibility to sell the business if I ever need to move or don't want to continue it. (I don't plan on it anytime soon but you never know) Like once it has a good reputation and client base, can I sort of sell the practice? Or is that not a thing?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Business Partner Relationships

The company is an LLC and I'm a member that owns 45% while he's a managing member that owns 55%. What are my options and do I have the Legal right to have access to those financial records ?

Square to Clover, is it worth it?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 06:59 PM PDT

We opened a coffee shop about a year ago and have been using square since then and I haven't had any real issues. We got approached by our local bank that resulted in showing us the Clover POS and showed us a lot of its benefits over Square POS.

Would it be worth switching to and learning a new POS system?

Ideas for holiday gift for clients?

    Posted: 26 Aug 2020 12:57 PM PDT

I run a print shop, and last year we gave out logo'd mugs to our top ~250 ish clients. We put a packet of hot chocolate, spice cider mix, a pen, a thank you note, and a couple chocolates in each mug. They were a really big hit, and we got a lot of good feedback from our customers.

Looking to do something like that again. Would like to do something different this year. Want to keep the cost per item ~$4.00 each.

    Any suggestions?
