SEC launches investigation of trading in Kodak shares before and after $765 million loan disclosure: WSJ

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 10:14 AM PDT

Not much info/detail in this article but good to know it's at least being scrutinized. Let them all burn!

The Securities and Exchange Commission has launched an investigation of the trading in shares of Eastman Kodak Co. before and after the news last week of a $765 million government loan to help it make drugs at its U.S. factories, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The loan news caused Kodak's shares to climb to as high as $60, before falling back to $15 on Monday, in massive trading volume. The stock had already moved 25% the day before the news was officially disclosed. Executives with stock options, including some awarded the day before the loan became public, were sitting on big paper gains. Kodak shares were down 1.3% Tuesday, but are up 215% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 SPX, 0.10% has gained 2%.

    Facebook or Microsoft

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 06:38 AM PDT

Facebook is a growing company that owns many more companies. They are really working to expand What'sApp and Instagram. There is clearly a bright future ahead.

Microsoft is also a growing company. They also own other companies like Xbox and LinkedIn. In addition, they are looking to purchase the popular TikTok app from ByteDance to get into the social media game.

Both of these stocks have grown by about the same amount in 2020. In addition, they are both around the same price range. (Only $35 separates the two).

Therefore, if you had $1000 which stock would you purchase and why?

Of course, if you have a better option for the 1k, feel free to recommend it.

Is it possible to never/very rarely have losses when day/swing trading by just not selling?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:59 AM PDT

If I buy a certain amount of stock and I see the value has gone down and I know that I will lose money if I sell, it would make sense to just hold and wait till it increases again right? Even if it takes a few weeks? I am not sure if this is something day trading firms would do but as an individual just buying and selling ONLY when the price has gone up is more sensible then selling at a loss right? If it is why is it that we see people losing so much money dat trading when they could just hold when they know they're going to lose money?

Sorry if this question is stupid, I'm new to the stock market and I just wanna learn

    Thanks in advance!

Watchlist: 8/4 Record Highs, When in Doubt Buy

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 03:07 AM PDT

    Market Notes:

The markets surged higher and the Nasdaq soared to record highs both intraday and close. Despite unemployment on the rise and the congressional stalemate. When in doubt buy.

Earnings season has yet to deliver any headline stealing surprises so far. Profits are down across the board and stocks continue to climb.

Summer trading is still a little choppy as futures are pointing towards a lower open. I'm still trading small positions waiting for conditions to improve. My watchlist is growing and speculation appears to be picking back up which bodes well for my morning momentum plays.

    Puts on Kodak (KODK)

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:44 AM PDT

Yesterday, for the first time, I bought puts that expire at the end of the week on Kodak. It seemed like a no brainer and has obviously already made me money, but I bring the question that why would I not buy puts for all of these companies that rise to be way overvalued because of the news or fomo? It seems like they always hit their peak quickly after news and then the next week they spend in a free fall going back towards the original stock price. I'm a younger trader and I don't have too much experience so any feedback is welcome!

Some Questions about the P/E ratio

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 05:08 PM PDT

In what instance would the P/E ratio of a company be not applicable to its actual performance? I've seen companies with a current ratio of over 300x and I was bewildered.

What could cause such a skyrocketing effect in its ratio and should these outliers be taken into consideration of whether or not to invest in a company?

    Stock Traders Almanac

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:10 PM PDT

Does this strategy beat the traditional buy/hold and average down strategy most passive investors use? I mean this technique trades on seasonality. If everyone is aware of the seasons on when to get in and out of the market, is there an advantage? I tried researching the topic and compare it to various investment styles, like the above buy/hold, target date funds, etc. I'm looking to invest long term and trying to figure out the best strategies to use.

Ford (F) CEO Jim Hackett retires after just 3 years—and a 40% stock slide

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 02:48 PM PDT

    Source

Ford has changed CEOs for the third time in six years, the company announced on Tuesday. Current CEO Jim Hackett will step down in October and be succeeded by his handpicked deputy, Chief Operating Officer Jim Farley.

Hackett made some significant changes to try to make Ford more profitable. Most dramatically, Hackett cancelled most of Ford's car lineup in the US so the company can focus on its more profitable trucks and SUVs. Ford then announced plans for $11 billion in new investments in electric and hybrid vehicles—even as it laid off almost 20 percent of its European workforce.

GAIA is in 52 week territory - Still way undervalued

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:22 PM PDT

Not gonna get too into the DD here but I will say that I've been a holder of this one for over a year now and been adding on all the dips. I've always thought this stock was undervalued when compared to Netflix on a subscriber basis. The reason is because its been around for over 2 decades and has not made a significant return for investors. They burned a lot of cash on customer acquisitions which did not pan out as fast as they hoped in their goal to reach 1 Million subs. But covid has seemed to be a tailwind for them and now they have just beat their own estimates and added over 50k new subscribers in the past quarter. That's one quarter alone. they have over 600k subs now. It boggles my mind that this stock is priced at value stock levels when it's clearly become a growth stock since the pandemic. I'm posting about it because i think if word would to get out to the robinhood community it would skyrocket. Do your own DD though. I find a lot of the content on Seeking Alpha to be the best for that if you're not looking a the financials on your own.

Double Dipping via Individual Stocks and ETFs

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 08:43 AM PDT

I'm a new investor, and I just wanted to see what consensus or opinions are out there in regards to this topic.

I currently own MSFT and VUG within my Roth IRA. I know that MSFT is VUG's largest holding, which means I am double dipping into MSFT. With some companies, I could see how that increases your risk or may over expose you, but it's MSFT.

I'm extremely bullish on MSFT, so I'm fine with owning the stock individually and also having it be part of ETFs I buy.

When I look at VUG, I see that I am getting an ETF that is heavy on a stock I already love, and also exposes me to APPL (own individually as well), AMZN, GOOG, FB, V, HD, etc.

So what is the counter argument to this? Why would I be better served to not go this route?

    Order Execution Depending on Quantity?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 04:08 AM PDT

I have a quick question on order execution depending on share quantity of the trade.

If you place an order, whether it be a limit or market, and set the share quantity at let's say, 10 shares, will the order only execute when there is someone selling exactly 10 or the specified amount? Or will you get traded a few from one seller and the rest from another?

And with limit orders, will the order only execute when there is someone selling at the specified price and at the exact share quantity?

Also, unrelated to the title, could you potentially sell your owned shares at any price you wish?

Any insight regarding this will be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Should I open two accounts for growth and dividends?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 01:05 PM PDT

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 09:09 AM PDT

22 years old, with around a savings of $10k. So far I've invested very safely, only invested $100 total. I was wondering what are some good places to invest into as a beginner? I'm looking to hopefully at some point have half of my savings in the stock market. Preferably long term investments that can still make good money.

    Physical or stock gold

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:09 AM PDT

Hey i know this is a pretty dumb question but i just want to be 100% clear and get a simple quick answer because i tried researching it and there is no clear answer.

So since inflation is going to affect the buying power of our cash, to save the value of it many people are buying bitcoin or gold and things like that.

When people talk about saving their cash from inflation do they mean buying physical gold or gold stocks like $GLD ?

All replies are appreciated thank you!

What are/where can I learn the fundamentals of day trading?

    Posted: 04 Aug 2020 11:05 AM PDT

I'm very new to the stock market and I really want to learn about it but I don't have any idea what I should focus on learning in the beginning. I'm sort of just watching different youtube videos that I think will be helpful and trying to learn whatever I can. I have about 1k that I can invest, so I'm planning on day trading with penny stocks so I can learn first. Whenever I watch experienced traders, they talk a lot about set-ups, patterns, etc. and I want to know how they learned that sort of information and how they are able to apply it when they start trading. Like right now, if I was to buy a stock it'd be buying it blindly because I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for and I really wanna learn what indicators and set ups will lead me to good choices. What useful videos and fundamentals should I fully understand before I even start getting into the stock market?
