Can an (old)er investor tell me what is going on? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:24 AM PDT Hello stock investors. I've been investing in the stock market for a while now but never have I seen these types of gains in history. I've read countless books on investing and all points to getting the hell out as soon as possible but the past few months have not been the case. I've also been checking online forums and there has seem to be a new wave of overly optimistic investors. It seems like the market should've crashed for a second time already (1st in March). Can older investors share their thoughts? Or are we simply entering a new age? The way it has been going since March is something that has not been seen before throughout history. They say what comes up, must come down. So when and will we experience the biggest crash in history/ and soon? Please keep clean. Thank you. [link] [comments]
Can I realistically make 10-15$ a day by trading stocks? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:56 AM PDT I have about 2000$ and I live in a very poor country, it took quite a while to get where I am so if I could earn like 10 dollars a day I on top of my day job I might legit not need to work at all. How can I do so? I started looking into the stock market a month ago and just recently actually started investing but I might need more guidance. [link] [comments]
Posted: 21 Aug 2020 10:55 PM PDT I have shares of Apple, Tesla, Amazon. All of those stocks for me have at least doubled in stock price. I was speaking with a mentor at work (healthcare industry) and he mentioned when the market is acting irrationally and stocks seem to be artificially driven up he sells a bit to take advantage of this. Thanks! [link] [comments]

Alphabet Weighed Buying Small TikTok Stake as Part of Group Bid Posted: 22 Aug 2020 04:23 AM PDT https://finance.yahoo.com/news/alphabet-weighed-buying-small-tiktok-182151872.html (Bloomberg) -- Google parent Alphabet Inc. considered participating in a group bid for TikTok, but the effort fizzled in recent days, according to people familiar with the matter. Several firms discussed forming a consortium to invest in the popular video-sharing app, with Alphabet weighing a minority, non-voting stake through one of its investment arms, said one of the people. What are your thoughts on the Coinbase IPO - the Bitcoin exchange. Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:16 PM PDT Coinbase is a Bitcoin exchange. They offer a few shitcoins too, with room to expand to more shitcoins. They make most of their money off trading fees. Recently they started offering custody services which i think will be more popular with instituational investors since it defers the "i got hacked" risk. They are rapidly growing in trading volume and are currently the largest exchange, in both bitcoin's held (approx 900,000 BTC) and in USD/BTC trading volume currently $80 million dollars daily. The IPO is upcoming and expected to valued at $8 billion . So what are your thoughts? Is this like investing in TD Ameritade in the early days of the stock market? 2017 Revenues = $1 billion 2019 Revenues = $2 billion Number of Employees 1,123 [link] [comments]

Pfizer communication to shareholders Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:03 AM PDT Just FYI Pfizer shareholders received this a couple days ago: "This communication contains "forward-looking statements". Such forward-looking statements may include, without limitation, statements about the proposed combination of Upjohn Inc. ("Newco") and Mylan N.V. ("Mylan"), which will immediately follow the proposed separation of the Upjohn business (the "Upjohn Business") from Pfizer Inc. " [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:28 AM PDT Market forecasters are only guessing investors' response to the November election — and not necessarily in an educated way Here are just some of the stock market forecasts emerging from Wall Street's latest parlor game: predicting how different industries and sectors will fare after November's presidential election. Some believe that if Joe Biden becomes the next U.S. president, investors in gold as well as shares of Chinese and clean energy companies will have reason to cheer. If President Donald Trump is re-elected, in contrast, those investments will be hurt but shares of oil, gas and coal companies should rally. Don't believe all you hear. The analysts making them have rarely taken the trouble to actually test them. If they had done so in a rigorous way, they would have discovered that there is no statistical significance to the numerous correlations they claim to have found in the data. I know because I did the testing myself. I input into my PC's statistical software the prices from the electronic betting markets of the futures contracts pegged to Trump or Biden winning this fall. (I obtained the data from Bonus.com, a website that aggregates the pricing history from Betfair, Betway, Smarkets and PredictIt.) I then searched for correlations between changes in the Trump or Biden contracts and those of more than three dozen industry- and sector ETFs. Try as I might, I came up empty at the 95% confidence level that statisticians frequently use when determining if a pattern is real. I measured correlations in day-to-day returns as well as weekly returns. I also measured correlations over three different periods: since March, since April when Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders suspended his campaign, and since June when Biden formally acquired enough delegates to clinch the nomination. This hasn't prevented analysts who should know better from making breathless claims about the alleged correlations. Earlier this week, for example, one prominent Wall Street analyst wrote that "investors betting that Joe Biden will win the presidential election are buying up clean-energy stocks." As an example, he pointed to the WilderHill Clean Energy Index, a compilation of green-power companies listed on U.S. exchanges, surging to a more than nine-year high earlier this week. I don't doubt that this statement is literally true, since some of those investing in this ETF believe Biden will win. But I'm sure that others who are investing in this ETF believe Trump will win. In any case, the correlation that the analyst is suggesting simply doesn't exist, as you can see from the chart below. So far this month, for example, while Biden's odds of winning have fallen five percentage points, this ETF has gained 17%. [link] [comments]
QQQ VS Individual Stock (Maximum returns) Posted: 22 Aug 2020 01:01 PM PDT I'm thinking about going all in on QQQ but I want to maximize as much profit as a possible on returns. Should I go all in on QQQ or invest in a stock like NVDA or QCOM instead? If you know of a better preforming tech stock please let me know! [link] [comments]
Why SPY has so many expiration dates? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:12 PM PDT I am quite new to option, before today, I only know there are weekly option (expiring on Friday) and monthly option (expiring on 3rd Friday). I did not know there are option expiring on non-Friday. How can SPY have so many expiration dates (Mon/Wed/Fri)? Any rules on option expiration date? Thanks. [link] [comments]
How do I know what stocks to buy? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:01 PM PDT Currently I am in my mid teens and just started getting interested in trying to invest in stocks. I know about some of the basics about the stock market but not a lot. I made an account with my parents to start investing but I have no idea where to start. I only have 500$ to use atm. Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 06:53 PM PDT Alright guys I have a question because I'm kind of split (no pun intended) on how to handle this up coming stock splits for Tesla and Apple, on one hand I'd love to get in on these stocks at this much cheaper price, and I feel like plenty of others like me will be more giddy to get in at this cheaper share price, but on the other hand I'm thinking doesn't this stock split massively dilute the amount of shares on the market? Wouldn't that make the stock decrease in value? I've only been trading for for 7 months and I've read about 10 books on the market and I've learned a lot and have done very well in the market, but I've never handled a stock split or really read much about it. Best Stock Screener......HELP! Posted: 22 Aug 2020 08:46 AM PDT I'm looking for some community advice from experienced investors. I am not a complete newbie to investing (particularly interested in stocks right now), but certainly far from an expert. Does anyone have advice on what the best single stock screener is? My stock screening over the past year as I have been expanding my research interests has evolved into somewhat of a complicated process. I have my main broker (Fidelity) who has very good screening and research features, however I have found it beneficial to use multiple other stock screeners such as WeBull, Yahoo Finance, and Seeking Alpha as my main three to keep an eye on stocks especially on the go with my iPhone. I also like the CNBC app for live streaming, and Finviz for an aggregated news articles. I have the Bloomberg and MarketWatch apps on my phone but do not usually use them, however like the random notifications on the go. One of the features I particularly like about WeBull and Yahoo Finance is the community conversations on particular stocks (although there is often a lot of trash talk to sift through). Also I like Seeking Alpha for the frequent quality articles and real time mobile notifications to keep me updated. Another issue I have is building watchlists between these multiple services. For example, it is easier to build watchlists on Seeking Alpha over Fidelity because I don't have to log into Seeking Alpha every time just to view watchlists on the go. Also I don't always have time to save tickers to all the screeners at the moment I find one to watch and the various screeners I use (Fidelity, WeBull, Yahoo Finance, and Seeking Alpha) have evolved into quite an unorganized mess of tickers. I know all of these services offer premium accounts but I am not willing to pay over $100 a month for multiple premium accounts. I am really looking for a service that offers all the features of WeBull, Seeking Alpha, Yahoo Finance, etc. with a quality community conversation thread to discuss specific stocks. I have discovered other screeners like, Stock Rover, Trade Ideas, TC2000, TD AmeriTrade, Motley Fool, etc., and am sure there are a million more. I am willing to pay a monthly subscription fee for one, maybe two very good services that meet my needs here but don't want to try 100 free trials, or pay excessive monthly costs to try something that doesn't end up working out for me. Also I am sure any of you that build watchlists know that the process can be time consuming and is an investment of time in itself, so I don't want to be constantly building and re-building watchlists on various services to try and find one that works for me. For anyone that takes the time to read this long post and give me some advice it would be very much appreciated, thank you. [link] [comments]
With the new release of Microsoft Flight simulator, would it be smart to invest in AMD or Nvidia? Posted: 22 Aug 2020 02:41 PM PDT I read up about how over $1-2 billion in parts/PC's collectively could be spent by people who get MSFS because of how demanding it is. I'm wondering what that means for the brands/companies involved and if it is smart to invest. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 07:24 AM PDT Hey guys, when a stock pops up a large percentage and has a history of doing so and returning to a normal price, why do not people just short these spikes in price? I have been learning how to trade over the past few weeks and have seen so many of these events. [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 01:27 PM PDT I want to start trading. I'm going to start with a small amount of £50. Does anyone know a trusted, reliable and one that doesn't or very small fees? Thank you for the help. [link] [comments]
Realistic consistent annual returns Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:13 AM PDT This year i managed to achieve 34% return ytd with doing some risky and some safer trades. I am curious whether these returns are possible every year (lets say 30% every year for the next 5-10 years). What are your guys' experiences so far, this is my first year of trading and im preferably looking for thoughts on this subject from traders who have been trading on the stock market for some more time than me. Posted: 22 Aug 2020 12:10 PM PDT What are your guys' thoughts on the ongoing battle between twitter and microsoft on who's going to go all in? I've heard of other companies joining the fight such as oracle, but i'm really trying to buy early but i just don't know who's going to do it, any predictions? [link] [comments]
Posted: 22 Aug 2020 09:49 AM PDT Hey guys, So I have calls on FSLY and ZM. They're dated 18 September. After about a week of holding them they're already up 100%. However, they aren't at the price target I have set for them (their recent ATH's). On Friday it was a choppy day for those two and they bounced around a bit. I was wondering if it's wise to sell them now or if I should be holding in anticipation of them continuing to appreciate in value [link] [comments]
