I know it’s not a huge amount of money but I’m curious as to others experiences with using various auto insurances while delivering food. Insurance

What does this line in settlement mean?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 11:19 PM PDT

Please help. I'm at the settlement phase of a car accident. I've had to negotiate my settlement but now I'm confused and don't want to sign until I understand. What does this line mean?

"The above settlement includes in addition the amount above we agree to pay for treatment related to this accident..."

I want to be sure the amount they say is my pain and suffering and doesn't include my medical bills.

Apartment building in Atlanta, GA burned down last week; I have a few questions

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 07:37 AM PDT

Last week, my apartment building in Atlanta burned down and is considered a "total loss". I lived there with my fiancée and we each have our own renters' policies with ~$22,000 property coverage apiece. (Both of these policies are with the same insurance company, but they were set up with different agents if that matters.) We've already opened claims and are currently working on our property lists.

    My questions are:

    1. In your opinion, are we going to get a lot of pushback at the $22k level or is going to be a "cut a check and close it" situation?

    2. Are we going to run into any issues with our separate claims for the same unit?

    3. Can we both claim the same item?

    4. Building off of that last question, what happens if one person's claim is over the max payout? For example, If my fiancée has amassed a list that's already above 22k ACV can I claim the items on her list that pushed it over our max payout and thus technically weren't paid?

    5. I also saw something in another thread about the insurance company absorbing deductibles. It was kind of downvoted, and it sounds too good to be true. But if we have 23k worth of property on one claim and a 1k deductible, is there really a way to get them to take it off of the 23k (23 - 1 = 22) as opposed to our max payout (22 -1 = 21)?

    6. We both have temporary living expense coverage to the tune of 9k. Can we use up one policy's and then start the other person's coverage at a later date? (Potentially like a month or two later.)

    7. It looks like according to the policies, we can use our temp living coverage either until the money runs out, 24 months after the claim, until repairs on our apartment are complete (again, total loss, so this ins't happening) or until we've secured new housing. We keep getting told they'll cover temp housing "for a reasonable amount of time" for us to find a new place to live. Does this mean anything or are they just trying to spook us into picking something quickly?

    8. Are they going to come after us for evidence that we're looking for permanent housing? And if so, does what type of housing matter? We are looking, obviously, but with everything that's going on, we're very busy and before the fire we were planning on finishing up our lease and then buying a house. We're not exactly thrilled that we're faced with a situation of either signing a new year lease and either delaying our plans, breaking that lease and paying a large fee, or paying out the ass for month-to-month on an apartment. If possible, we would really rather use this as a chance to get a house. (We're just a little bit traumatized by apartment buildings too now.)

    9. Is being engaged considered a "civil union, domestic partnership, or other substantially similar legal relationship that is recognized and valid in the state where, and at the time when, the legal relationship was established;"

Edit: Since several people have mentioned how some of my questions can lead to fraud, I want to be very clear: we have no intention of committing insurance fraud or concealing information. We figure that the insurance company will be doing everything legally in its power to pay the least amount possible, so we want to make sure we're doing everything legally in our power to receive the most funds we're entitled to as quickly and painlessly as possible.

Car Accident Claim Question - Please Help

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:38 PM PDT

Hello all, I need some guidance on this issue. This is my first time in a collision accident and I have a few questions. Sorry if this post is rather long.

I was in a car accident last week. The other party was turning left with a green arrow and I was going through the intersection and we collided. I do not remember what color light I had on my end but I know it was not green.

I made a claim to my insurance the night of. I got a call the next morning with my claim rep asking for information about the accident and recording my statement. The rep then called the other party and recorded his statement.

A week after, just this Friday, the other party is harassing me with text messages and voicemails saying that I was lying on my statement. He received a letter saying he was at fault and the damages are not being paid for. It was weird because I received a letter from my insurance as well saying that I am 100% at fault (principally at fault).

This past weekend on Saturday, the other party has been sending me threatening text messages and voicemails saying that he knows where I live and work. "My life will never be the same." "You have a price to pay." "I tried to be nice." And he left a voicemail saying he may go to my workplace to post pictures of the accident and of me.

The things he said scared me, especially since he said he knows where I live and my family may be in danger. My mom is the policyholder as well so he knows her name. After those messages/voicemails I filed a police report on him.

I called my insurance today and they said they will talk to him about the issue and will call me back to confirm he will not bother me again and that he will speak only through insurance. It has been a couple hours and I have not heard back from them yet.

What are my next steps from here? I took a day off work to figure this out because the other party is not happy with the outcome. I feel like I am at fault so I do not know why he received that letter.

I did not have collision coverage so the vehicle is a total loss and I need to replace it myself. This is in CA.

Please help, this has been bothering me this past weekend and has caused so much distress. If I am at fault I understand, I just want to move on from this and continue my life. The threats were unnerving and I've been fearing for my family's safety. I have been even terrified leaving my home because of the other party as well.

Driver's Insurance Question - Price difference between Probationary and Basic?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 08:02 PM PDT

Hey guys, so my question is pretty simple, do insurance companies look at whether you have a probationary license or a basic license? Or do they only look at age?

For context, I live in New Jersey, am 21 yrs old and I am starting a job soon that fits around my college classes. I can Uber or get rides in the short term, but long term I'll need to be able to drive. I have held a probationary license for about 11 months so I will be able to upgrade to a basic license in a month. I have never gotten into an accident and have never gotten a ticket.

If I call and join my parents' insurance (Geico), will my rates be higher than if I just wait a little longer? Can Geico tell whether I have a probationary license or basic, or will they only see my age and determine a rate from that?

I am afraid to call them because I've been told that if they even find out that there is another driver in the house, they'll raise our rates before I am even added to the insurance. Thank you so much, have a wonderful day!

Auto insurance question in no-fault state

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:39 PM PDT

It's my first time living in a "no-fault" state (Pennsylvania) and I'm a little confused about my auto insurance coverage. My understanding is that since PA is no-fault, in the case of an accident, each driver's medical costs would be covered under their own "first party benefit" coverage (which at a minimum is only $5K). If that's the case, then what exactly does the Bodily Injury portion of my insurance ($100K/person, $300K per accident)? My understanding previously in a non-"no-fault" state was that if I caused an accident, the bodily injury portion would cover the other driver's injuries, but that doesn't seem to apply in PA?

Sales Tax Fees were not Included in Settlement

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:28 PM PDT

I'm from Colorado and recently had my car totaled. I originally was quoted for the sales tax/registration/title fees but the Settlement is $1k less than what I was originally quoted for when those fees were originally added. I have Progressive and I reached out to my Claims Rep, but I'd there anything else I need to do? I just want to make this was a genuine mistake rather than a Progressive Rep not putting those fees in the settlement. I guess my deductible could have been taken out, but I feel like I should be able to see that under my claim documents.

How to deal with other person insurance

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT

Person hit me and car insurance estimate for my cars value is 2,000. I had an independent estimate which put the value of my car at 7,000. How do I use that information so I can get a fair payment. Also they do not want to count my brand new tires, me fixing the Ac ( all occurred within 6 months before the accident) as part of the estimate, but rather as general Maintenance.

    Edit: I live in California.

Got in a weird accident today and I don’t know who will be at fault.

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 06:16 PM PDT

I was backing out of my driveway and I made all necessary precautions and made sure no car was coming down the road. I was already in the street and putting my car in drive when I was hit by a car speeding at about 60 mph in a residential road. I was already fully out of the driveway when the car hit me. The driver was recklessly speeding and made no effort to slow down. Am I still at fault because I was backing out? If it matters my father witnessed the accident because he was preparing to pull his car into the driveway as I was backing out.

Is there a 5 year window to return to State Farm auto insurance in order to keep a 25% discount?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 02:23 PM PDT

I am in Hillsboro, Oregon. I was with State Farm for 17 years up until September of 2015, when I started driving a company-insured vehicle for work. Now I am in the market to own a vehicle again and a local agent from State Farm said, "If you return to us by September 6th, 2020, which is the five year anniversary of when you left State Farm, then we can extend to you the previous discount you were receiving with us. Afterwards, we wouldn't be able to do so." He said the discount was for the length of time I was a customer.

I have years of sales experience so this sounds like a tactic, but I'm not sure. We are also in the middle of a pandemic and I've read recent reports about State Farm cutting auto premiums by... you guessed it, 25%. Can anyone shed light on whether this is a real thing?

Hit a deer head on but was unable to file a police report (NY)

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:53 PM PDT

I hit a deer head on in an area without any cell reception.

I was out camping in an area with very poor cell reception. While on the road, I hit a deer head on and did quite some damage to my car.

Due to not having any reception, I was unable to get a police report about the accident.

Will I still be able to do an insurance claim without a police report, or will I have to pay out of pocket?

Insurance for International Move During Covid

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 04:25 PM PDT

Hey all, I'll be moving from the US to the UK shortly. I have a couple grand tied up in my flight and a quarantine hotel that I would like to insure in case the pandemic interferes with my plans. I thought about travel insurance, but this seems to only cover vacations (door to door), but I would like some kind of option for covering the nonrefundable parts of the move.

(california) vehicle damage rental car requirement

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Hello, someone damaged my van that I use as a mobile office and it is going to take 5 days to repair it. The other person is 100% at fault and the insurance company agrees to that, and I want to know what is the requirement for their insurance to provide me with a replacement vehicle or compensation for the period of time while my vehicle is repaired ? And does it make a difference if I ask for cash instead of them paying for a rental directly ? Also, since my vehicle is custom modified as a mobile office and it is unlikely to find a rental that matches that unique setup, are they responsible for paying me for the hurt to my ability to operate my business during this time? I want to be paid in cash and not have them provide me a rental car.

Errors & Omissions (E&O) Insurance - Have gone several months without coverage - Can I get "retroactive" coverage for any future claims arising from events when I didn't have coverage?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 03:25 PM PDT

Title says it all -- I want to get E&O insurance for my software consulting LLC, as I have gone quite a few months without and it seems to be an unnecessary risk. Company is registered in Michigan (US).

In an effort to be prudent, I'd like to get coverage that spans back to cover events that may have occurred between my company's foundation date and whenever I purchase the coverage, even if the claim comes after the effective date of the policy.

The provider I was going to use says they don't allow this, but the google searching I did before reaching out seemed to indicate this was possible. Hoping the /r/Insurance hivemind can speak from experience as to whether this is possible. Much appreciated.

LTD claim denied after 2 mo delay...

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 03:21 PM PDT

Hi... after trying to get all the paperwork required for a long term claim, which took almost 2 months, my insurance company is denying it because of a preexisting condition.

I have an ongoing health problem i can't pin down, and it left me disabled earlier this year. With the pandemic it has taken 8 months to finally start getting somewhere and getting treatment. My neuropsyche/counselor is the one doing the paperwork, and he feels it's PTSD, but I think it's thyroid or sleep related. My sleep doctor finally came up with a plan a few weeks ago, and it's a long process to even start being seen and treated. My PTSD was treated during the look back period, but following diagnosis by my PCP and sleep doctor say differently, and aren't pre existing. I feel these are the primary factors causing this issue.

It's been 2 months since I've had any income, now I'm deep in medical debt. Idk what to do at this point. They'll probably tell my work, which will be less likely to hold the position so I'll now lose my job over this.

Idk what to do at this point. I'm not unemployed, but can't get insurance. I'm gonna get thrown out soon.

I'm lost. I have no options left.

Professional Liability Insurance that covers "Penetration Testing" / Ethical Hacking?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 02:59 PM PDT

I apologize if this has been covered in the past but I am still looking for companies that cover businesses that do penetration testing services. About 30% of my business is penetration tests hiring very qualified, certified and experienced personnel, and I have proper confidentiality and limitation of liability paperwork before I engage eith my clients.

That said, my important client needs me to have professional liability insurane, and I've started to find out that major insurance companies start to balk when I mention I do pen tests.

If anyone can provide any advice, or point me to the right subreddit, I will greatly appreciate it!

    Thank you!

    Rideshare ins needed?

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:55 PM PDT

    Hi!

Im thinking of doing on demand delivery for a grubhub or doordash service. Im going back and forth with some friends who write auto policies and they're both saying you don't need it since the burden of proof is not on you. I read doordash help section and theyre saying their 1mil policy won't necessarily kick in if you dont have ins. I do have personal auto through geico. I don't want to spend money I don't need to but I dont want to be screwed over if I cause an accident. What is your advice?

Ps. On mobile some errors possible. Ps in Northern california

Auto insurance with learner's permit: please help!

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 09:01 AM PDT

Coming to you guys with a dilemma:

    • I don't have a driver's license, just how my life worked out. I have a learner's permit which I can use to drive (with an experienced driver of course)
    • I live alone in NJ
    • I am just under 30 years old
    • I have excellent credit
    • I need & want to drive
    • I started the process of buying a car
      • I don't have access to any cars
      • I don't have anyone I trust enough to put as a co-owner on the title
    • I am having trouble finding insurance that would be willing to insure me

Has anyone else been in this situation? How did you get out of it? Would you know which companies out there could insure me?

Any advice would help. Even moral support! Thanks everyone.

[California] Rate went up after removing dependent

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:24 PM PDT

I live with my gf's family and I was pretty upset to hear this, which is why I'm asking reddit if there's any knowledge I can pass on to her dad. He typically doesn't argue on bills and just accepts the cost as it's presented.

My gf (23) is a type 1 diabetic so she receives medication regularly, and naturally they thought their plan's expensive rate was due largely to her diabetes.

She was recently offered a full-time salaried position at her company, and they offer 50% health insurance coverage. So she decided to take them up on that, thinking that it be a small step towards financial independence and would help her dad out.

So their family plan is Molina, and her's is now Kaiser.

Molina wouldn't provide a quote before the switch so they decided to try switching her off officially to see what the discount would be.

When her dad called Molina to remove her from the policy, their family plan went up $150/mo because it's the same income for a smaller family size, and my gf is now paying $178/mo for her own plan. He asked about just reverting the changes and they said it'd likely go up again because her income would now be added.

Is there anything her dad can do besides shopping for new plans to get a lower price?

I apologize if this naive. I've not dealt with health insurance before.

Allstate-personal vehicle for limited work use

    Posted: 24 Aug 2020 12:11 PM PDT

My sister was in a wreck while driving to a work appointment in her personal vehicle. Typically she drives a company car but none were available so she took her personal vehicle which is apparently typical practice at her company. According to her the vehicle malfunctioned but she rear-ended someone so it will be deemed her fault.

The company led her to believe it would be covered under work insurance since she was using the car for business purposes. They're now telling her it won't. Her personal insurance (Allstate) is telling her they will deny the claim because she was using the vehicle for business purposes.

She's trying to get copies of both policies to read the language, but I haven't heard about this before for such limited business use. It's a regular business, not ride share or grocery delivery or anything like that. I would say she uses this vehicle for business purposes way less than even 5% of the time. It is her personal vehicle for her personal use. I'm worried about my insurance now too since I don't have access to any company car and obviously drive it to appointments and meetings sometimes. My husband does too.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Edited to add: she is in Indiana. I am in Alabama.

An update: I contact my agent at Allstate, who I have a policy with as well, to ask whether traveling to occasional work appointments and meetings is covered under my personal auto policy. They said yes. They said they would want to convert it to business use if I changed jobs and used it for work 90% of the time, but that I am covered for my occasional work travel. So, I don't understand why my sister's scenario doesn't fall under the same coverage. She only uses this car for business use occasionally.
