    I have an upcoming internal interview for a AE role (currently inside sales). I've supported many of the AEs that work under the hiring manager.

    • is it a good idea to request them to write me a formal letter of recommendation to submit to their boss (also hiring manager) or just ask them to put in a good word for me?

    • any other tips to stand out from the crowd?

    Medical Devices/Products Sales to Medical Diagnostic Testing Sales - Step Down?

    Hi,

    I have 6 years of experience selling medical devices and products into Women's Health in the hospital. I sell some marketing leading products. Disposable, single use products. Nothing surgical. Things such as feeding tubes, PICC lines, etc.

    My call points are the actual hospitals - Nurse Managers and Directors, Nurse Educators, Materials Managment. Very little interaction with the doctors unless I am training them on something.

    Pay is 55K salary and commission puts you at about 150k. Car allowance of about 7k.

    Now each year, new sales obviously will bump that up 5 to 10K each year if not more.

    Very large territory.

    They can't seem to get the commission right this year as for some reason the GLDs are not sharing all of the data so I'm about 10K underpaid at this point, so most likely 20K by end of year. Of course, I expect that to true up at some point. We are going through a product recall that is a bit problematic as well.

    I wasn't seeking another job but a good opportunity popped up. I had round one phone interview last week and group interview this week.

    This job will be in Womens Health as well. Diagnostic genetic testing/screening.

    The call point will be different. It will be 90% the actual doctors offices and maybe a little bit of laboratory calls.

    The pay will be 100K Salary and if at plan total will be 168K Plus car allowance. Much smaller territory.

    I have not been offered the job yet. What should I do if offered. The new job is not pharmaceutical sales but it kind of seems like it as you will be going to the doctors offices and talking about diagnostic genetic testing and I guess if the doctors like it, they will recommend or offer it to their female patients.

    I don't have a knock on pharmaceuticals but someone told me once if you do pharmaceuticals they wont hire you for medical devices.

    So, is this a step backwards career wise? Or is this a step forward by moving I guess perhaps into more biologics?

    I do like the hire salary. This company will also offer stock options as well. Will pay for internet and phone as well.

    I don't know how secure things will be with my current job going forward. Just with the pandemic, the fact that we were bought and are now a global unit under the new company. Perhaps the pay structure will turn out being different going forward as well. Lot of unknowns but for the most part a good company.

    I've searched through the sub and found some good stuff on solar. I had a couple specific questions though -

    Any good recommendations on who or what "type" of person to target directly?

    What about networking? Real Estate Agents, Electricians, etc?

    I'll be provided leads and will ask for referrals, but always prefer to get my own leads directly.

    Any channel sales experts out there?

    I was up for an AE role at a company I really want to work for and I came in second. They want to hire me in November but I need work now. They had a channel AE role open so I asked if I could interview for it. They were very happy with that.

    Problem: I've worked in the channel as a reseller but never as a partner helping others sell my product.

    Any channel sales people out there that can help me out on how this differs and some of the challenges and ways to be successful vs. being a regular AE?

    W8 Form, selling software to US company?

    Hi guys - I am signing up as a vendor for a US company so they can disptach a purchase order. If I am company based outside the US and an organization in the US is buying a software from me, do I need to submit some kind of W8 Form? It is a mandatory field in their vendor registration, so I was wondering what to attach in that field.

    Dress code for AE in tech

    Just landed an AE role at a top tech firm. Will be selling SAAS to SLED customers. What is the accepted dress code? Will be remote. Looking for what the "normal" attire is for internal video meetings and customer meetings.

    This is my first job out of the military so for better or worse I'll have to decide what to wear every day.

    Long time lurker question about ADP SBS

    Little background, my undergrad was in Exercise Science and I went into the fitness industry during grad school where I studied Sport Management. After grad school I got a 3 month seasonal position with a NFL team in ticket sales. Because of COVID and the sports industry not coming back for 1-2 years I'm making the switch into a different industry and recently accepted a position at ADP.

    This thread has lots of posts about people who worked at ADP and usually jumped ship after 1-2 years and go into another industry. Is there anyone on this thread that battled through the first 1-2 years and came out on the other end making great money? Is that something that's worth it or is jumping ship after getting experience the way to go?

    Salary Negotiation at Director Level

    I'm at a final found interview for a director role in a fintech company. I have a varied background in sales, marketing, operations and more recently partnerships. This role suits me perfectly as they need someone with all those skills and I heard from my friend who referred me that they think I'm the best candidate. I'm having lunch with the CEO where I hope to close the offer, and I'm sure we are going to talk about salary. I need some advise as to how I can play this best. I don't live I the US, but the ranges for the slaries vary wildly here, I don't want to embarrass myself by going in crazy high, but I don't want to undercut myself also.

    I've seen some posts in the past about salary negotiation but searching I could not find what I want. What's the best way to approach this? Do I ask him what their range is? Or give him a number and stand firm? Give him a number +10% and expect to settle lower? My number is approx 60% higher than I'm on now (Base, as I don't know their commission structure). If he asks me what I'm on now so I inflate a little or not answer? A friend told me that 'He who speaks first, looses' - would you agree? I also do have another strong potential in a bigger well known company where the SVP is an old boss and has recommended me (but there are currently no jobs currently) but how can I use that as leverage?

    What's my best play here?

    Do Personalised Videos in Service based Sales actually work?

    I run a specialist agency that focuses on Podcasts, Video and Social Media.

    We just hired a Client Director and right now we're tightening up our proposal system so it's more scalable. That means a more uniform template, better elements, etc.

    The idea of a personalised "video letter" at the closure end of the sales cycle, inside the final proposal as part of the cover letter. The thought process is that if it's getting passed up or down the chain for decision making, they may get a sense of the Creative partners that their Coworkers have seen.

    I know from a marketing perspective conversions are 80% higher with videos on landing pages and video related ads/animations etc - so long as the its informative to decision making.

    What's everyone's experience with integrating a video as part of the sales proposal? Has it improved your conversions?

    Anyone have any good data references to the impact?

    Comm plan changed to "go-live" for 1/3 of comms

    Hey all,

    Just moved into a new role in HCM (Payroll and HR) and we just had the new comm plan come out and they've changed a few details.

    The biggest is changing from

    Sales with a implementation of >6 months will pay out 75% at contract signing and 25% at go live or 9months, whichever comes first.

    To

    Sales with a implementation of >6 months will pay out 67% at contract signing and 33% at go live

    No definition of go live anywhere.

    I'm pissed, this is huge and those in Saas know go live can never happen by a technical standpoint as it's ever evolving.

    Anyone else have a go live clause?

    How would you all approach getting it changed back to original?

    Target is 1.5m for reference.

    Some sales we work on can take 24 months from engagement to close so to have to wait till go live means I may not ever get those comms or at best 3-5 years.

    I feel so angry as they didn't even tell us about the change.

    Need Advice on Hiring Sales Staff for my Startup Company/Event!

    So I've started a company in Melbourne which will run an annual event which businesses pay to attend, with the pilot event being in March. I've been planning and developing this event for a long time, and have almost all the logistics figured out and venues and contractors locked in. I have a well developed business plan with detailed financials that shows a profitable model. I also have developed an extensive list of potential clients (these companies have attended similar events before).

    While I am confident in my capabilities with all the other aspects of the business, the one that keeps me up at night is the sales portion, which will be need to be B2B cold calling. First off, while I have read SPIN Selling, and am working through the exercises in the Spin Selling Fieldbook to try to develop successful sales scripts, I have no sales experience. Second, I have a 9-5 job that I don't plan on quitting until I have successfully ran at least one event, so I am not even available to make sales calls.

    Obviously I need at least one other person to run the sales side of things. I would love a co-founder to take on this role, but finding someone willing join me and take on the risk without pay seems slim. So my one option is to hire sales talent for 4-5 months leading up to the event. This person would not only do the sales calling, but help develop a proper sales system and scripts for the business for future years.

    Because selling enough event spots in a few month window is a make or break for the event, I feel a huge pressure to execute this right. Right now it seems like my options are:

    a) Hire a senior sales person with the experience to handle this on their own

    b) Hire 1-2 junior sales person, and a sales consultant to build the scripts and systems and train them

    I'm hoping to get this subreddit's expert advice on how they think I should go about this. What would you do in my position? Are there other options I haven't thought of? What's the best way to go about finding these people (recruiter, special websites, etc.)? Do you think if I have a well thought out and convincing business plan that I could find a co-founder who will head the sales? What are the key skills and experience I should be looking for?

    Really any advice you can give would be incredibly helpful!

    Grant Cardone training-is it good?

    Hi

    I recently attended a webinar by the local licensee of the Grant Cardone sales training system. There was a lot of hype and a lot of noise, but at the end of it I could see the guy himself had valuable insight/advice to give, knew what he was talking about, had modified the content to suit our local needs, and there was some good technical information and sales concepts there that I could use.

    My main driver for taking it is I've never had sales training, been completely self-taught, and always wanted some training, especially one which blended the sales teaching with mainly comes from the US with my country.

    My main concerns are from watching the interview with him and Jordan Belfort, and from the opinion of him on this sub and other places online, about Grant Cardone personally. I just don't want to lose my money and waste my time. Since I'm self-taught, I already know some things which are covered and more importantly, don't want to be misguided with the wrong training or paradigms that hurt how I approach sales or my business or reputation.

    So Grant Cardone's Sales Training-is it good?

    Small ticket 100% commission jobs

    I'll start by saying I like my current sales job. I make 5-6 really big ticket sales a year and it pays the bills. But there is a lot of down time and sometimes a long time between sales. The frustration of working a year or more with a client to have them waffle out or their finances change is wearing on me and I'd like a way to blow off steam while creating a side income.

    I recently started cold calling a lot and seem to enjoy it. I'd love a way to improve my calling techniques on smaller-value prospects. Particularly I'm looking for something that wouldn't require me to quit my current job or relocate. I'm thinking commission sizes of $100-$1,000 where I'd be able to cold call prospects with a much shorter timeline.

    Everything I look at on job boards seems to be "scammy" feeling and I'm not ready to dive into that. Do these types of jobs exist selling small ticket items on 1099 basis and strictly remote? My thought was if I could work on my calling skills and produce 1 sale a week it would be a great side income while also honing valuable skills.

    How do you find a company you want to sell for?

    I've worked in door to door and small business security sales as a teenager. I've spent the last 5 years working in online marketing roles, especially working with e-commerce clients.

    How do I move into tech/saas sales for a product I believe in?

    I thinking to literally talk to a lot of people in say - email marketing saas, or crm saas and ask "what product/service really made a difference for you guys, and was completely worth the money?"

    I'm guessing the companies that are most commonly mentioned, are the hardest to get into as someone with no saas/sales experience, and also the companies that are the most mature and difficult to find new business?

    Should I include print-on-demand success on my resume as a new graduate?

    About to graduate with Bachelors in Mech Engg.

    Mainly what I did since 2nd year was upload tshirts over a platform (not Etsy and Redbubble but like them i.e. print on demand). Did a lot of market research in my free time like what sells, search volume data over google and amazon, etc. then contracted graphic designers to create designs for me and paid per design basis. Created a nice little income of about 1.5-2k USD per month now semi-passive. (Please dont ask how)

    Is this a good thing to include? I ask mainly because I don't see direct transfer over to a sales career as an SDR as I wasn't reaching out to clients

    For extra-curriculars I got toasmasters and uni racing sponsorship team so I am definitely including those but not sure about the other one since it was completely my business

    Have you ever successfully negotiated your new year quota?

    Been at this company for 2 years. With the new fiscal year beginning soon, I was just slapped with a quota that makes OTE literally a pipe dream. It was pretty reasonable the last two years; not easy, but attainable. Now it's completely out of whack.

    Have any of you successfully renegotiated an unfair quota? If so any tips?

    Or should I start looking for a new role?

    Is it usual to not receive a written job offer for a sales rep position?

    White Board Exercise Interview Tips?

    I have a final round interview with a SaaS next week, and it consists of a 45-minute "whiteboarding" exercise. The position is for a solution consultant (pre-sales/sales engineer).

    I'm no stranger to whiteboarding in customer engagements, but I'm just curious about what the premise might be for an interview. Do any of you have experience with these types of interviews? Any best practices I can try to keep in mind?

    to make it to this round I've had 2 phone interviews and a presentation/demonstration for the solution consulting team as well as their sales team.

    Ending the month with a goose egg.

    I'm a young B2B rep. Started with company in January training. Last month was the darkest time of my life so far and I ended up contracting covid at the start of last month. I was managing accounts so my numbers were doing okay.

    I was moved to a hunting only role this month and made zero traction the first two weeks do to my own mental health battle.

    I got medical help finally and bumped my meetings and opp revenue up like crazy last week and this week. Seeing a lot of traction now and I'm exstatic! Sadly, today all of my potential oops pushed to next week.

    Unless I boiler room the fuck out of Monday I'm coming in at a fat zero.

    I have a solid game plan laid out for here on out. Looking for guidance in speaking to my performance as I am mortified about Monday.

    Im 22, Big tech, fully remote.
