[CA] Dental Insurance from Upcoming Job Question

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 03:00 AM PDT

    Hi,

I'm due to start a new job this August, but it looks like health insurance won't roll in until 90 days after my start date. Even so, I will still need to add on dental insurance to the plan they offer. Still, better than paying completely out of pocket.

My question is, how should I go about seeing the dentist based on this situation? I have needed to go for a while now, and might not be able to wait the 90 days to do so. What are my options?

    Thank you!

Please Help New to Reddit & Have Medical Bill Issue

    Posted: 01 Aug 2020 01:23 AM PDT

    Hi,

I am a 40 something woman with a collection issue for a medical bill I need help with please. I had an awful situation that landed me in a skilled nursing facility (aka Nursing Home). I was unable to walk and ended up in ER 3x for neglect from that place.

10 days after arriving they finally came to me for intake paperwork. They would only explain everything verbally and had nothing for me to review. They only presented me with signature pages to sign and said I didn't have to date. Thankfully by that time whatever drugs the hospital had been giving me to make me loopy and not remember anything had finally started to ware off and I at least dated my signatures with the date they presented the pages to me. (They would have had to forge something to show otherwise.)

MAIN ISSUE: The confusion happened because my Company changed what Health Insurance I could elect and I had to change companies as of 1/1/2020. I provided this new information to the Nursing Home at least 3 times before I was finally sent to a real Rehab Facility and thankfully am now able to walk with a walker.

I am having two different billing issues because of this.

    1. The nursing home refused to send a claim to the new insurance company for services 1/1/20 - 1/6/20, and states I never gave them the information. Which I did before and after I left with a total of 6 times. Finally I found out who their Corporate office is and I am trying to work with them and my health insurance company to resolve that issue. But I am afraid that since its over 6 months my health insurance will not pay, and only I will be responsible for the balance. Not sure what my recourse is if that happens.
    2. I just found out I have a collection agency attempting to collect an ambulance bill that was never billed to me or my insurance company. (neither of them) When I was contacted via cell phone the caller ID said Spam Risk so when I answered I was hesitant with personal information. When they attempted to confirm my home address they gave me the Nursing home facility's address, I got concerned it was a scam and ended the call just incase. I was able to verify the Collection Agency was real based on a credit report I pulled & Google Search. So I submitted a dispute with the credit report, emailed the ambulance company, and requested proof of debt from them. I will do the same with the collection agency on Monday. If it is a correct billing and if they would have billed my health insurance it would have been paid in full because I have met all my deductibles. Now I don't know what will happen and don't feel I should have to pay for someone else's mistakes. Any Advise on my next steps or options available?

I don't have money for lawyers just FYI & already paid out over 10K in bills and I am tapped in savings, Health Care Spending accounts, Stimulus Money, Tax Refunds, and Family Assistance. Any advise will be considered, Thank you.

I need some guidance. I want to make sure I'm not doing something illegal

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 08:08 PM PDT

So about a year ago lightning struck my house and fried my 3d printer and Microsoft Surface Studio Pro (~$5000). They were plugged into surge protectors but the Surface was plugged into the modem through an ethernet port and the 3d printer connected to the surface by USB.

Anyway, we have renters insurance so we inquired and they told us we would have to have someone certify that they were dead. We went to a place and they signed a paper for us certifying that the two hardware pieces were dead. About a week later we received a little more than $4,000 which meant we couldn't replace the surface and we decided to not replace the 3d pronter at that time.

It's recently come to my attention that the surface studio pro has some data on it that I need. The surface not being a typical computer where you can open it and just retrieve the hard drive, i considered taking it to the Microsoft store and inquiring about getting it fixed. However, before I do this I want to know if what I'm doing is legal or if it could amount to insurance fraud.

For the record, I never lied to the insursnce company about anything and I never did or said anything with the intention to mislead or intentionally misrepresent. Eith that said, they never gave me instructions on what to do eith the hardware, either.

I need the data off of it, regardless. Could having it fixed get me in hot water? Thank you in advance for any and all replies.

    Pregnant while on Medicaid question

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 07:11 PM PDT

I am not sure if anyone here will have the answer to this but it's worth a shot... I am currently on Medicaid as my husband is finishing school and we make below the income limit. I just had this panic moment because he will be starting a job in a couple months...will I lose Medicaid when he gets a new job and we make over the income limit? I read on my states Medicaid website that pregnant women have "continuous eligibility," im assuming that means I can keep it regardless as long as I am pregnant.

    Chipped tooth while not covered

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:28 PM PDT

    Location: British Columbia, Canada

I moved to BC about half a year ago and had always been under my parents' insurance until then. I naively didn't get insurance because I figured anything really serious would just be covered by provincial health care.

Fast forward to a week ago... I fell and chipped two of my front teeth on a rock while not covered under any dental insurance. Thankfully, I somehow don't have any pain in them, but it would still be best to get them repaired.

Now, I am unsure how to go about handling this. Assuming waiting period is not a problem (again, no pain), is there any possibility of getting this repair covered after the fact?

[Illinois] My uncle recently injured his spine rendering him a Quadriplegic. He is currently in Rehab and improving, but not fast enough for his insurance to extend his stay.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 06:40 PM PDT

He started off about five weeks ago with no feeling or movement in any of his limbs/extremities. The last couple of weeks his feeling is improving in his arms, and he can occasionally move a couple fingers and toes.

Unfortunately this is not enough improvement for his insurance to justify extending his inpatient rehab. There is currently no out patient rehab available due to the pandemic.

This is a shot in the dark, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but does anyone know of any health insurance work arounds that could help extend his inpatient rehab? I know nothing about insurance, but would hate any possible improvements squandered because of his policy.

Open to all advice! Also if anyone knows of any other good places/resources to post this or ask questions please let me know.

Could use some Help on This One

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 09:30 PM PDT

    Canada, NS

So about a year ago I backed into some guys car that was parked directly behind mine. He ended up not being angry about it at all because he said it was dumb to park there and was glad I left him a note.

He took my information and talked to his insurance company, I took his information and talked to my insurance company (that I'm no longer with) and told them what has happened.

Turns out it was my fault since I was the one moving a vehicle and not him.

The guy I backed into said he has the best insurance and that he might just be kind and put it all through his insurance so that I dont have to pay anything.

Now I haven't talked to him since that incident has happened and my old insurance company still hasn't called me back (in a year almost) saying that I owe X amount in damages to his car. I noticed his car was fixed only a week after I backed into it.

Do I not owe anything in damages? Or are insurance companies generally this slow at getting back? Will I receive a call in two years from now saying I have to pay for his damages?

Also I'm curious, will my insurance go up at the end of the year because I filed that incident? Even though I didn't use any of my insurance companies money to pay for damages (yet).

    Thanks :)

3rd Party Caused Tire Damage - Am I SOL?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 09:23 PM PDT

I am one of the lucky few not working from home right now and have to commute to and from the office. My employer recently hired a third party company to fill the cracks in their asphalt. No notice was given to employees, no signs were posted, and no areas were cordoned off. There is only one entrance/exit from the building. I went to work and parked as usual, only to find that all four of my tires had been completely coated in the asphalt filler.

From what I understand, my insurance company could try to deny this claim as "road damage to tires," but that wouldn't be entirely accurate because the road didn't cause the damage; asphalt filler did. To complicate things, my employer will not release the name of the third party company, so I can't contact them directly for compensation.

In my opinion, this third party is 100% responsible for damages to my vehicle because the unsafe area should have been taped off. Not so sure my insurance company will see it that way, though. Basically: is there a universe in which I don't pay $800 for four new tires out of pocket?

    State is Arizona.

TLDR; my employer hired a 3rd party whose negligence damaged all my tires on work property.

    Accident claim estimate questions

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 09:02 PM PDT

Well I'll start by providing some information on the accident and then my issues and question, I got into a minor accident that damaged the rear quarter panel and bumper. The rear quarter panel looks like it should only require some minor paint repair as some of the paint chipped off and some scuffs to the finish. The bumper on the other hand got ripped off and dragged on the street and requires a replacement as it has broken tabs, some tabs that got ripped off of the bumper, and a huge section of road rash that ate through the bumper itself.

My issues with the estimate is that the adjuster requested pictures of the bumper and the damage to it which I provided close ups of the damage. In the estimate the adjuster provided time for repair and paint correction but not for a replacement bumper or mud flaps (which also got dragged along the street). How do I go about getting the proper amount to repair my vehicle

[Louisiana] Car crashed into house. Is it covered?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 08:25 PM PDT

    Reasonable response time

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 07:43 PM PDT

    Ontario, Canada.
What's a reasonable amount of time to expect a senior claims specialist to respond?

I'm a third-party who has a covered loss on the insured's business claim, and I'm not getting a response, after several emails.

I'm assuming that their duty is to the Insured, and that I as a third party have no real recourse except their corporate policies, and then, a lawyer?

    [Arizona] car insurance

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 07:04 PM PDT

Hi. I'm a 24 yo female who has multiple permits, but no license. I've forgone it as I used to live and work with family in AR, and drove around ten miles a month on private land doing things like hay hauling. My boyfriend with whom I've moved to AZ with has has full coverage since we bought a 09 Audi A4, on an 02 Chevy Silverado Duramax. My question is I'm probably gonna buy an 08 Scion tc. Would his liability rate, with me added as a driver on the Audi and the Scion jump extremely high? Before we moved to liability we were coughing up 700 a month in full coverage for the 02 and the 09. I also have the opportunity to take a job that will pay substantially more than I am making now, but it requires me to have 100k, 300k, 100k insurance on whatever vehicle I use to drive to work location ( travel time paid.) HELP.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 06:32 PM PDT

Hey guys, so i just got my license and my mom wont let me take the family car anywhere because she thinks if i get pulled over and im not listed on the insurance ill get in trouble. Is this true? I know insurance probably wont cover it if i get in a wreck and im runnin a risk but i only want to take the car out like once or twice (one time for a date😏). So is it illegal for me to drive without car insurance (the car is insured but im not listed btw)? Also, i live in Tennessee. If it is illegal or too big of a risk its okay ill just wait to get my own car. Also my mom doesnt want me to add me to the insurance because were struggling financially rn and she cant take anymore chunks out of our money. Ill be getting my own car soon and ive been working to be able to afford car insurance, but i just dont want to wait that long. Anyways, yeah thanks

After nearly 6 months dealing with piece of shit insurance American Access Casualty Company my car is finally repaired

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 05:07 PM PDT

Few days short of 6 months, today I finally got my car all fixed back. Early February literally seconds away from home a truck came out of parking lot of a shopping center and hit me on passenger side quarter panel. The driver had some insurance I have not heard before called American Access Casualty Company. I didn't think much of it, exchanged info and called the police to come for a report then went home.

Next day I reported the accident to my insurer Progressive and the other driver's insurer. At first everything seems normal I was able to get hold of the adjuster and she asked me to provide details and picture of the damage. I was sent to a bodyshop 30 minutes from me and got an estimate. More than 2 weeks past nothing and I can't even get hold of the adjuster anymore, calls always go straight to voicemail and message never replied. Finally I had to ask for my adjuster at Progressive to reach out to AACC and found AACC has accepted liability and a check is issued at end of February with the amount based on their shop's estimate.

Knowing insurance shop's always use after market parts I brought vehicle to two different authorized MB bodyshops and got the estimate with factory parts, it was nearly 2k higher. I decided to go with authorized shop but this was back in March when things were being shut down, I was advised to come back later in case shop has to close completely. 2 months gone by shop is ready to start working on it but they know AACC and wanted to get supplements approved before I drop the car off. Once again no one can get hold of AACC, by June I had to ask Progressive to step in again, finally got hold of the appraiser and supplement was approved, now repair can begin. Picked up a rental and dropped off the car. A month later I called bodyshop for an update, they told me it's mostly finished but they have problem getting hold of the appraiser again for a second supplement. I tried to contact AACC's adjuster and nothing... Progressive steps in again and an appraiser finally showed up at the shop to go over the 2nd supplement.

7/19 second supplement finally approved but not the whole amount, I am out of pocket nearly $700. Shop tried to contact appraiser to fight but appraiser won't respond. AACC's daily rental reimbursement doesn't even cover the whole daily rental charge. More than a month into repair I found out AACC has agreement with Hertz to make the rate work of course they never felt it was necessary to tell me. I used Progressive's rate and got rental at Enterprise, paying a few dollars out of pocket a day to cover the difference. Not wanting to drag on any longer and knowing AACC will definitely screw me over on rental reimbursement I told the shop I'll cover the difference, let's get this over with.

Today 7/31 my car is finally ready for pickup. All that's left is to finish rental reimbursement and this whole ordeal is finally over... I had to keep telling myself this could be worse... It could have been an uninsured driver, God knows there is no shortage of them in Texas. Finally, I wish no one ever has to have the God forsaken pleasure of dealing with AACC. Oh and an important lesson, for people without access to another vehicle for extended period of time and living in area with little to no public transit, rental coverage is a must for insurance. I did not have rental coverage with Progressive, or I could just go through the repair with Progressive and let Progressive deal with AACC and save a whole lot of time and headache (money too...)

    Estimates on comprehensive claim

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 04:33 PM PDT

    State: Ohio

My car was damaged in my parking lot (unclear if something got dropped or someone stood/jumped on the hood) and I contacted my agent who filed a claim under my comprehensive coverage.

Initially I thought the process super easy, I sent pics and they sent an estimate of about $1200. I thought to myself "$250 deductible and I get a new hood? Ok sign me up".

I called the shop close to me and they were so backed up that my appointment was about 6 weeks out. Then my dad said to get another estimate or two just in case. I just got one today that was over double the estimate from the insurance company. 😳

Should I get another estimate as I'm waiting to hear back from the shop I scheduled an appt with? (To see if they need me to bring the car in for a real estimate before I choose them for the repair)

How do these issues get handled, between the shop and the ins co?

Could this kind of damage be from hail?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 04:28 PM PDT

I just had a claims adjuster out to my house who said my dents were from the hail we had a few months ago, but the adjuster said that it is not from hail. I went around and around with him that the damage was NOT there prior to the storm and just after the storm I checked and this is what was there. He repeated that it isn't from the storm and "How often do you check your roof so how do you know it wasn't there before?"... https://imgur.com/a/iNHUH2g

Questions about life insurance and guaranteed issue life insurance

    Posted: 31 Jul 2020 12:42 PM PDT

My mom is in her early 70s and wants me to help her with life insurance. We live in Georgia, USA and she already has life insurance with Genworth. She has to renew it in August. She also got a lump recently which we are seeing a doctor for. They plan to remove it with surgery soon. They reported it as being cancer but they are not entirely sure if it is cancerous so they are sending the biopsy for a second opinion. It might be benign since she had a similar lump there years ago that was reported as cancer but turned out to be benign.

I read that a cancer diagnosis can make companies deny life insurance but a guaranteed issue life insurance can be given. I also read that someone had life insurance but after telling their insurance company about their cancer diagnosis, they lost their life insurance however they were in the UK so it might be different there. She was planning on quitting Genworth since they are increasing the payment amount. She also has high BP if that is a factor in choosing. Is it best to just renew the Genworth life insurance or will they deny her if she has a cancer diagnosis? I'm pretty clueless about insurance and would appreciate the help.
