Someone offered to buy 50% of our business Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:13 AM PDT Hi there! We (husband and wife) started an ecommerce business around June 13th. It started as a hobby and we didn't think we would get any orders. We just hit 400 sales today. We are a fairly spiritually based business. July 5th: (20 days or so in) Sales is 3853.19, net 1295.12 We had a few days where we were getting $1000 revenue and a single day where we hit $2000. For July we hit $26,000 and our store was offline for a good week during this month. $16,000 net. We have invested a lot in new areas, such as a website so we can be independent. $4k. Which is being built. We've been round to suppliers to reduce the costs of supplies as far as we can. Our current issue is that we can't get access to the money fast enough. We are in Etsy and so they hold the money for a while, so by the time they release it we have already grown enough that we cant buy enough supplies for the new orders as it costs more substantially. A magazine has come forward wanting to feature us and a local subscription box wants to showcase one of our items. With all that in mind, a good friend has offered $30,000 to own 50% of the company. He says he will handle finances and accounting as he is a chartered professional accountant. He wants to help get supplies cheaper and already has a lot of business contacts in areas that we would help. He also offered cheap access to an office space so we can expand from our basement. We were wondering if anybody has any advice or opinions. [link] [comments] |
Just started an LLC -- What Should I know Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:37 PM PDT Just started a single-member LLC for my writing business. I am doing this to earn some extra cash and follow my long fetched dream of being the next great writer. Anyway, I have everything put together and filed with the state (I am in California). However, I am now sitting here really wishing there was a book written on how to run it properly. I've spent lots of time online reading, but I am nervous about making mistakes. What were some sources you used when starting out with your LLC? [link] [comments] |
Another local lockdown in Greater Manchester ready to hit us all hard Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:25 AM PDT We've been doing fairly well recently but this new lockdown looks to be shooting most and worrying other business owners who have already been hit so hard if they get hit again they might not open again! I set up a website Save a small business today back when the first lockdown hit and it's still massively important as a town we help where we can! Also want to make a big shout out for my sister in law! She makes the beat brownies in the town (and much further afield) so please share the love and enjoy the boxes! The Little Baking Company Anyway, stay safe and shop small! [link] [comments] |

Tips for a first-timer small business owner Posted: 31 Jul 2020 05:14 AM PDT Hi guys, a little over a month ago, I fell in love with baking which made me motivated to start a small business at my house where I would make and sell cookies (for now!) I can't help but feel overwhelmed because not only it costs a lot but you have to consider so many things. Also, the competitions intimidate me as well. Do you have any tips for a first-timer like me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
Help needed with software/app for operations tracking between business partners/owners Posted: 01 Aug 2020 12:45 AM PDT Hey r/smallbusiness members! I need some help with desktop software or an application on android, which can help me and my business partner keep up to date with our operations. We have a very small business, but deal with a lot of different customers, and projects, in the mechanical engineering field. I was the original owner of the business, and my business partner joined recently. We have divided the work into basically myself running sales, client interaction, and admin related stuff (invoicing, payments, etc.) while he runs our design office and manages the staff, while also doing design work himself. The problem we're having is that I am on the road a lot, and there are lots of things happening that I have rolling around in my head, which I also need him to be aware of. Basically I am looking for an app in which I can make notes, and do updates with regards to the status of some topics, while he can do the same on his side, and we can see each other's updates, so that he knows what I am busy with and how it affects him, and vice versa. We used Taskade a bit recently, but its not free. I dont have any issue paying for software, but it had limited functionality, and then needed payment, I would rather have full functionality on a trial basis, and then pay when I know it suits our needs. Any recommendations? [link] [comments] |
How do you best make LinkedIn work for you? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 09:54 PM PDT It seems LinkedIn has a lot of potential for small businesses to network and gain success. How do you best make LinkedIn work for you? Any success stories from using the site? [link] [comments] |

[Request for Feedback] New Jewelry E-Commerce Business Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:27 PM PDT Hi All - I recently launched a jewelry brand named Kaylál (www.kaylal.com) and I'd like to ask for feedback on my website + instagram profile (@kaylaljewelry) (i.e. user experience, aesthetics, tips for improvement, clear branding, etc.). I primarily make handmade pieces with semi-precious stones. Thank you in advance!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2020 10:12 PM PDT Simple question for my fellow freelancers. I was an idiot and dove into the world of LLCs years ago without much knowledge. I stupidly let the state dissolve my LLC automatically because I did not know how to close myself, and I did not understand the concept of the franchise, excise tax - I had never even heard of it upon signing up. My recent reading tells me that a SMLLC does not pay this tax if disregarded for federal income tax purposes. So does that mean I can avoid it? Also, if the state dissolved my LLC, can I reopen it? How to track competition/measure success Posted: 31 Jul 2020 05:41 PM PDT I really want to start my own flower farm in my area but I have no idea how to track competition and gage if it would be successful. My question is, what are some resources I could use to help me figure out if this is the right area for this type of business/industry? I'm even open to moving to a new area/state. Business Websites for free or cheap? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 07:41 PM PDT I have a small business that I started on Etsy, but I want to have my own website at one point. I designed a website on wix, but they require the first years payment up front and I don't have the availability to do that right now. Is there any way to build a website for free or cheap? I know I will have to pay for a domain, but I'm having issues finding a place to build a website that has a checkout option that's free. I would develop a website myself, but I only know very basic HTML coding. If anyone has any advice, I am willing to hear it. I don't know much about website creation, so I'm sorry if I sound stupid in this paragraph. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2020 03:01 PM PDT Hello, I have a skincare company that I just started. We have our product down and our website up. We will be launching our products in a month time, if all goes well. The hiccup now is how to build our social media presence online particularly on Facebook and Instagram. I know it will not happen overnight, but I will so much appreciate guidance from people that have walked down this path. In terms of running Facebook ads, building an online community etc? Need Urgent Advice. My Schedule C Looks Weird Denied SBA Funding? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 02:30 PM PDT Hello: So, I am an independent contractor doing business consulting. I applied for PPP logically under my name and SSN; and then Kabbage declined me and told me to apply again because while the Schedule C has my name on it, it has under "trade name" the name of the company I was doing consulting for. Is that normal? Kabbage told me to put that name to get approved, but that's not my business? Would I get in trouble? That's just the business I was doing consulting for. Did my CPA mess up my tax return? I really need this PPP to stay afloat, so I am very worried. Thank you all for any advice. I really appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 31 Jul 2020 01:44 PM PDT I'm launching a startup consulting firm in a few months. In the meantime I want to get my web presence up and running. I really want it to be an abstract, modern presentation without a whole lot of fluff. I need somebody to take my idea and put it into reality, and also help design logo, branding, and business cards. I do have experience doing this type of work and am capable of doing it, but I need to focus on my own profession and hire a professional to put their own expertise into motion. Where to start? Do I just google around for companies/individuals that offer this type of service? Are there certain go to companies or recommendations? [link] [comments] |
How to deal with racist customer? Posted: 31 Jul 2020 03:02 PM PDT Have you guys have had to deal with good yet extremely inappropriate customers? I'm the manager/owner of this recently opened shop, I've worked in my parents stores, during weekends and after school since I was 12 or 13 so I have almost 10 years of experience dealing with rude people. I've however never been in this situation before, where the customer is very profitable, he's spending over $7k a week yet as I just found out is very racist and a pervert. So, I'm usually in my office but today I decided to come out and see how things we're running, (now since we're in quarantine we only allow up to 3 people in the store at a time while everyone waits outside) and in comes these two guys skipping the line and one of them just starts demanding stuff while everyone is occupied, we promptly ignore him and I try to tell him to wait his turn but he refuses to leave, so we ignore him. A few seconds later an older lady who was next in line asks me if I could help her since I wasn't busy but I didn't hear her over everyone else talking and the mask muffling her voice and ask if she could repeat what she needed but the rude customer suddenly reaches over the balcony, grabs something and basically sells it to her. At this point I'm like "what the fuck dude" and instead of explaining what he did he starts shouting at one of my employees and telling him he sold something because I (the OP) can't speak Spanish, he was again ignored and started screaming stuff like "CAN SOMEONE HELP ME? I NEED THIS AND THAT AND THIS CHINK CAN'T SPEAK SPANISH FOR SHIT", this when my assistant comes out of her office and tries to be as calm as possible and helps him so he would leave. After this guy leaves my employee explain that this dude and his friend come pretty often and spend quite a lot but because they spend a lot they think and act like they own the store, and to add insult to injury the racist one also acts extremely inappropriately towards the female employees including my assistant. I'm not sure what to do, should I ban him from the store? Or only let male employees serve them?... For context, I'm Portuguese of Chinese descent and I speak fluent Spanish. [link] [comments] |
