Is it bad to switch cars insurance often? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT It seems insurance companies will quote a low rate initially to entice you and then jack it up continually. Is it a good idea to switch often, like every 6 mo to 1 yr? I was with GEICO a year ago, at the time was paying about $500. Switching to Progressive at $400. First renewal with Progressive was $450, then $500, and now they want $530. This is apparently with platinum level royalty discoint. I just priced out the same coverage with GEICO and it comes to $380. I have never filed any insurance claim or cited for any violations. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 06:15 PM PDT My wife's insurance plan is much better than my job's insurance plan. I just started last week but since her insurance plan is better we plan on both staying on her plan. If she lost her job, would we be allowed to get insurance through my job? Like is it considered a qualifying event or something like that? Location is in Michigan [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 08:52 PM PDT Hi guys. I was wondering what happens here. I am renting a place, starting August 1st. I installed a bidet. All was working fine for 5-6 days. In the middle of the night (3am), the bidet handle burst (where the pipe connects into the handle of the bidet) and flooded my apartment (and 6 floors below). The bidet was installed by me, and worked fine for 5-6 days. It burst randomly in the night, from no fault of my own, but I'm wondering if this can be considered 'gross negligence' by insurance companies. Essentially - am I likely to be liable for this? A plumber was not called out, nor did I get confirmation from my landlord - I just turned the water supply off, plugged in the bidet, turned it back on, and all was working fine for a few days. I'm almost certain this will get pinned on me and I'm very worried about it. Cheers. Edit: Based in Vancouver, BC. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 06:07 PM PDT Based out of ND and was traveling to SD. Company vehicle also covers personal miles. I was driving in Custer State Park and a driver in front of me about 50 yards up startled a large bison (sticking out the window making noises) it came out of the brush and immediately charged my car full speed.... I panicked and reversed away from it for about 30 more yards as it charged. It didn't hit but I ended up in a small ditch and did a little damage to my bumper :( the whole thing will need to be replaced (2020 Subaru Legacy through Donlen) I know I probably shouldn't have done what I did, but what's the best way to report this? Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Separate Insurance Under Same Car Posted: 08 Aug 2020 07:47 PM PDT Hi!, My boyfriend is thinking about moving in with me soon. However, because I only have one parking spot for my apartment, he's planning on keeping his cars at his old house indefinitely. I said I could let him use my car if I could find a sensible way have it be insured because I don't want to have to be penalized if he gets into an accident and damages my car. Is there a way to insure him to drive my car separately (ideally with him paying his portion of the insurance directly) without having a potential accident or claim he makes impact my rates in the future if we ever end up breaking up or decide to insure ourselves separately? Is there a name for this? Or will this be something the insurance agent can help me with if I explain the situation? Not sure if it makes a difference, but the car is a Tesla Model S that I purchased outright and is completely under my name. I've been driving for several years now and I have never filed a claim, nor do I have any points on my record. Meanwhile, he's gotten into multiple accidents in the past so I'm not completely confident in how safe he will drive. EDIT: I live in California Thanks!!! EDIT2: I found a source here that says
Is this true? And does this include the affect on the rates from claims that aren't reflected on a driver's driving record? Does that even affect insurance rates? e.g. car is left out and a random person hit and runs it. [link] [comments] |

Got a cheaper Quote with an insurance I currently have an auto policy with (progressive) Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:23 PM PDT Hello! I currently have 2 months left on my 6-month policy. I pay ~$205 a month. When I used their "quote" tool, they were able to quote me for 175$ a month! A 30$ difference! My question is... Can I buy that new lower quote policy and cancel my existing policy with them? I tried tying the new policy quote on my current account but they said to just buy the new one and cancel my current one, but she sounded hesitant.. what are your thoughts? Thank you! Edit: I don't think this info. Is necessary for this question, but I was asked to include them , - 23 y/o male -California, LA County - 2 year driving history [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 02:43 PM PDT I am turning 16 in September and getting my permits then, with my license next year, but looking into the future doesn't hurt. I live in Massachusetts. When I do eventually get my car and insurance along with the car, I would most likely opt for minimum coverage (the minimum of all the necessary stuff and no comprehensive, collision, or other "features"). I would do so because Now, my question is, if i do get hit by someone (who hopefully isn't un/underinsured), and I have proof it isn't my fault (dashcam), do I still have to pay for my own repairs, or would their insurance take care of the repairs instead? Applying for Life Insurance - Causing Harm? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 09:54 PM PDT Hi All- I'm applying for term life insurance with a few companies and getting rates. However I just did a quick online Bestow life insurance quote and was denied which I believe it because of my pre-diabetes and childhood asthma. I'm looking for 30 years x 250k. Now, that one insurance company denied me. Will the other insurance companies start to refuse my application? I have one company that is pending underwriting. I'm I causing more hard applying to multiple insurance companies? Thank you all. [link] [comments] |
How do I get my Registration "stamped" Posted: 08 Aug 2020 02:15 PM PDT It's bad enough Massachusetts is making us PRINT out our own form and won't give us one. I need to register a vehicle but the registration form says I need a Stamp from my insurance company? Can't they get that online? (Progressive) [link] [comments] |
Has anyone had experience with Go Insurance? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 08:09 PM PDT I'm looking at different auto insurance options and saw that Go Insurance (a mobile auto-club app with route map, roadside assistance, and insurance quotes) has by far the lowest quote for me. The App Store reviews don't tell me much about folks' experiences with filing claims, so I'm asking here to see if anyone has had any positive/negative experience with the company. Posted: 08 Aug 2020 07:07 PM PDT I have noticed that for auto insurance purposes, one's marital status is listed (I am 25 and am located CA) and mine is bundled with my parents'. I am also under their medical insurance and dental insurance. Is my marital status listed on there too? My parents do not know that I am married and given complex circumstances, I cannot tell them yet. Should I get my own car insurance (I assumed it was cheaper bundling it with my parents)? Thanks so much. [link] [comments] |
Do we have any options? (Needing care for someone with significant health issues) Posted: 08 Aug 2020 04:36 PM PDT My mother in law, 59 currently, has suffered numerous health problems in the last 8 months. Meningitis, sepsis, then a brain bleed. Her limbs only work on one side, has to be tube-fed, difficulties with speech. Has contracted C.Diff which from my understanding never really goes away and may come back. She's spent most of this time in hospitals and has been in a few rehab homes. Covid has made this process miserable as we have not been able to visit in a normal sense and help her with her rehabilitation. We still have many questions as to her cognitive and mental capabilities still. Her husband says that his insurance is going to run out shortly and will no longer be able to keep her in the care home. Essentially he'll have to bring her home and pay for any further care out of pocket. He works full time and someone would be needed to care for her when he's at work. We've been trying to look for options here. Apparently his LTC insurance only covers himself and not his spouse. Medicaid and Medicare are out of the question I believe. Is there anything else that can be done or is paying out of pocket the only option here? Edit: State is HI [link] [comments] |

Tree hit the house - what is customary? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 03:23 PM PDT Neighbor had a tree fall and it struck our attached garage. Here the law is I file the claim with my homeowners. There are huge trees everywhere around here and sometimes they fail. Everyone who lives in this beautiful but treacherous area should know this. Anyway, we have a 1k deductible. Our choice. I fully intended to pay my deductible and have the guy who built our home do the repairs. His estimate was approved and we are waiting on materials. The neighbors seem insistent they want to pay my deductible. I haven't told them its $1000. But regardless, this is not something I have asked for nor expect. Like I said, everyone around me has 100' plus trees that can come down at any time. The neighbors keep asking and lately it seems they have become "worried" or "offended" by my breezy "thanks but it looks like it is all working out" responses when they ask me. They gave me a gift card for some shrubs that were damaged which I graciously accepted. Am I wrong to not accept their offer to pay our deductible? We are neighborly but not friends. We have a different situation on the other side where those neighbors keep asking me to do things for them (take down trees, plant this or that) and I have to have certain trees evaluated every 5 years because they point out they think they are "dangerous" and they do seem litigious to me. We are cordial but not too friendly with them. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Question about Geico insurance policy (SC) Posted: 08 Aug 2020 03:12 PM PDT So I financed a new car about a month and half ago and switched my policy from my old car to my new vehicle. Well this month (second month of having my new vehicle insured) my payment is quite high. Due to Covid and being high risk I am on leave from work and can't quite afford my full payment. My question is If I pay my minimum payment instead of the full payment will they still cut my insurance off? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:11 AM PDT Our neighbors who are very close to our home have poor bent gutters that basically do nothing. This causes all their roof water to be dumped into my side yard. Instead of diverted to where it should go. With heavier rain we have had significant flooding in our basement that has caused damage. I don't believe my insurance covers this due to it being considered flood. (Don't have flood insurance) But with it being more about the neighbors neglected property than the rain. Is it possible my insurance or theirs could cover this not as a flood? Location PA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:11 AM PDT Car A was involved in an accident with Car B in May. Car and insurance takes liability of crash but totals Car A. In current state you do not have to salvage the title because of age of the car. They sent payment. Car A ran over culvert today and it's messed up. Comprehensive deductible is $100 and Collision is $250. If we file a claim can it totaled out again and roughly pay what was paid last time? Damage from previous accident was cosmetic only, this accident is mechanical. [link] [comments] |
Farmers Simple Term Life Insurance and discount. Posted: 08 Aug 2020 12:33 PM PDT I'm looking into purchasing life insurance with Farmers since I already have auto, umbrella, and home with them. Just joined Farmer a few months ago. Questions:

Posted: 08 Aug 2020 12:23 PM PDT I was accused of injuring a pedestrian while backing my car up out of a parking lot. The police did not write any tickets. The insurance company said they needed my insurance info. Somehow they did not get that at the scene of the accident. So I called up my insurance and had them reach out to the other parties insurance. My insurance company advised me to not speak with them anymore. Anyways now the other parties insurance wants me to give a statement. In all reality this really feels like a scam. When I was backing up I did not back up with any kind of speed and I backed up roughly 2-3 ft before stopping. The lady claimed I dragged her but I drive a truck that has a good amount of clearance. The woman wasnt even behind my truck....she was not even near my truck while laying on the ground. She refused medical treatment. Any advice or wisdom is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Private property accident insurance Posted: 08 Aug 2020 08:13 AM PDT I was involve in a private property fender bender where both he and I backed into each other. Instead of handling things like an adult he filed a claim on my insurance. The result of the investigation was that I was at fault and my insurance agreed to pay the claim. Obviously he lied during the investigation because there was no one at fault as we both backed into each other. Is there an appeals process to fight the insurance paying this claim. I do not want my rates to go up because of this clown. I [link] [comments] |
As a passenger denting a car door, is the passenger liable? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 10:52 AM PDT If a passenger dents the rental car door while in the car (not uber/lyft) by hitting the pole on the street (no another car involved), is the passenger subjected to take responsibility? Assuming the driver knows the passenger's address but not the name. If the dent is shown, how is it proven that the passenger dents the rental car and needs to pay in California? [link] [comments] |
What Kind of Big Boy Auto Insurance Should I Get? Posted: 08 Aug 2020 12:27 PM PDT Haven't had a car in 20 years. Valid NV driver's license. No other insurance so I can not bundle. Last century : ) whenever I got auto insurance it was always the minimum with no collision. This time I will be getting big boy insurance. I am going to include two links. Should the cars that I am linking to disappear I guess that might means they have been sold. I am looking for a Honda late model 2017 -2020, mileage under 20k, OTD pricing of under 20k, CPO and frankly at the moment I don't care what the make or model or trim is. I don't know yet if I will finance or pay in full. I will also be getting Umbrella insurance so kindly factor that in. Think of 300k net worth. Obviously I am only looking for a ball park figure. I know that used vehicles are in short supply. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
