Landlord wants to be listed as an "additional insured for injury or damage"

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 10:10 AM PDT

    Hello,

We were approved for a rental in San Bernardino County CA and it requires renter's insurance (which we would get anyways) but our landlord is requiring they be listed as an "addition insured for injury or damage" on the policy.

Is this normal? What does this mean for us? I was under the impression renter's insurance was for our property inside the rental and to protect us if someone hurt themselves. Why would our landlord need to be on that?

    Thank you!

    NYS DMV questions

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 03:18 AM PDT

I know this obviously isn't the right sub but the dmv sub isn't very active and I thought maybe someone here knows from experience. If theres a better sub please let me know!

    NOT NYC. Western NY.

I need to get my car transferred to my name. Right now the title is in both mine & my dads name, registration and insurance are in my dads name. How do I get my dads name off the title so I can register and insure it myself?

I need a new title anyways because of my lien release. Does he just sign the title and I can get his name removed or do I need a bill of sale that he "sold" it to me? I just don't want to pay more taxes on a vehicle I already paid taxes on when I actually purchased it.

How does SingleCare/GoodRX work with MediCal EOB?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 01:40 AM PDT

Hello, I am 19 years old and looking to potentially see a psychiatrist/mental health professional for therapy and possibly antidepressants. I am trying to go about all of this without involving or with the knowledge of my parents for a variety of reasons. Would this be possible if I were to use SingleCare/GoodRX for cheap generic meds that I paid with cash for? Does anyone know how specific EOBs are for people with MediCal? I don't really know how any of this works and I am trying to figure out how I could do this. I appreciate any responses I can get. Cheers.

Edit: I am in Southern Cali while my family is from the Bay.

Do companies actually offer riot/civil unrest insurance?

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:11 AM PDT

So my (Australian) insurance company has specific exclusions for "Warfare, Riots, Civil unrest, or damage caused by any Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, or Nuclear Weaponry"

Considering the state of the world at the moment, do any companies actually offer insurance for riots/civil unrest on an Automotive or Home insurance policy?

California disability cut off and confused as heck.

    Posted: 06 Jun 2020 12:03 AM PDT

My husband was in temporary disability due to a surgery back in March. They paid to the first week of April (so about a month). Husband went back to work last week but has not received anything. His doctor extended his leave to the end of May and contacted disability office, yet there has been no payment.

Earlier today, I saw a notice that said he would not be extended after April. 24 if the paper that I read was not sent in within 20 days. But he didn't get paid for the weeks between the second week of April and the 24 of April. Also, that paper was given by his work, so why was it not addressed to him at our home where all other papers were sent.

What can we do to get the payment he is owed for nearly 2 months that he was off to heal?

    Windshield claim

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 10:53 PM PDT

Hello. I live in AZ and got windshield damage on a Civic about a year ago on my new vehicle which would require a windshield replacement. I spoke to Geico to make a claim around that time to see if they would cover it. Being a younger college student, not smart about it and first time new car owner, I didn't really know how to approach it with my deductible being $1000. They told me that with Safelite it would cost a little over $1k bc of the sensor recalibration and I would have pay nearly all of it out of pocket to get it fixed. Being young and not that great at saving, I decided not to go through with it and let my windshield as is.

Now, I got a new minor crack onto the same cracked windshield but unrelated to that first claim and I really want to take care of it but idk if should just pay out of pocket or just go through with geico. A few days ago, I added glass coverage so now it shows as $1000 deductible/full glass. However being that I've already made a claim a year ago regarding the same windshield that hasn't been fixed, I'm not sure if I can do so without having to pay that much out of pocket. I'm stuck on how to go forward with it. Was it even worth adding glass coverage at this point? What can I do?

Is it frowned upon or illegal to sell insurance out of a car dealership?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:38 PM PDT

I used to sell insurance, now I sell/finance used cars and more often than not find myself manipulating customers' insurance quotes make them relatively affordable (I do bad credit financing so the insurance rates suck too minus geico/progressive)
I figured there's a ton of money to be made if I do an auto policy every other car. Anyone have any reasons not to do it?

Family Agent forcing me onto my own account separate from my family after graduating college

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 09:24 PM PDT

    Hi,

Like the title says, I recently graduated college (woo hoo). I have been on my family's car insurance plan due to the cost difference. Earlier this week my family called me up saying that our Allstate agent (not my choice) mentioned that I will be gaining my own separate account from my family. I have no titles in my name, they belong to my parents. The agent mentioned that I will still be under the family plan and the rates won't change, I'll just be classified differently now that's I'm out of school. Seeing that you've read this far, is this normal? I know very little about car insurance as a whole and am still learning a lot (nice subreddit btw). I'm just making sure this isn't something fishy that I don't have the experience to identify. Any advice or experience is welcome.

Edit: My family is in Alabama, United States, although I reside in Arkansas, if that makes a difference at all.

water which backs up through sewers or drains

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:49 PM PDT

What does "water which backs up through sewers or drains" mean?

This is an exception on my policy.

Friend A indicated the term "backs up" is a plumbing insurance term and only refers to water that is pushed up from the main sewer line back into drains.

Friend B stated this could include a water spilling from a toilet due to a clog in the drain.

    Who is right?

    We are in California.

Can't receve disability insurance payments in California since the office is closed.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:20 PM PDT

A relative of mine is on disability leave from work. The doctor sent the paperwork online, but it's not being processed because the disability insurance office is closed due to Covid. The relative is getting worried because they need to pay rent, etc.

Is there a way to get through in this situation?

What personal property should I claim?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 08:13 PM PDT

This is my first homeowners claim . I'm located in Virginia. The water heater burst flooding my basement. I'm not sure what personal property would be appropriate to claim. I'm being advised to claim any soft or fabric itesm and anything that was touching the floor. Would like you guy's advice. I don't want to go overboard but also don't want to run into problems with household items from the basement being unusable in the future. Thanks in advance.

    Home insurance question

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 04:26 PM PDT

I have a nationwide policy that covers my personal property at replacement cost and currently I'm trying to document all of my property with supporting pictures and forms listing the items . I have a ton of videogames that are disc based and I know some games are more expensive due to having cases so would my best approach be to take a picture of each game inside its case to ensure less chances of nationwide fighting me for reimbursement ? Also should I take a picture of each disk front and back to show the condition? First time having home insurance and just trying to do things right to reduce the risk of having to fight my insurance company . Also im in Florida

    Uh oh

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 07:34 PM PDT

I'm a dope, but not trying to be. I have 3 cars. I've had a policy with three cars on it for awhile. My wife drives one, I drive one. My stepdaughter drove one for a long time. She moved out, we got another car, my stepson moved in, he started driving it. At some point we switched what car was the third car (so, still three cars). When signing the new policy, I didn't mention my stepson is living in the house (and a regular driver of one of the cars). I thought as long as "I have insurance on the cars" it doesn't matter who is driving them. Recently he got into a fender bender, now it seems I didn't point out he's a regular driver, living in the house. It's going to "arbitration." I've been paying for a policy on the car, but he/I might be liable because I didn't mention he's a regular driver? Help me out with this? I'm not trying to skate on this, just didn't understand the rules...

Is there a difference between leisure and pleasure for car insurance?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 01:06 PM PDT

Hi, since COVID I have been unemployed so I took one off the road and on fire and theft.

The other car I put it on "leisure". I was debating with a friend, who was telling me there's a difference between leisure and pleasure, he was also telling me leisure means you can only drive on the weekend. Is this true?

Am I to be screwed if I use my car to get groceries on a Tuesday and I get rear ended?

Also, is there a point to even putting it for leisure use in the first place? Could I have just kept it as my commuter car even though I was unemployed, basically is the price difference noticeable for a car on leisure versus a 25 km one way commute?

Car insurance questions: First car and moving!

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:48 PM PDT

I have two questions regarding car insurance that are complicated by the fact that I'm moving states at the end of the month.

I'm trying to buy a car on Sunday. I've read online that I have to buy car insurance before buying the car, but I am not sure I am buying the car. If it's runs well and is what I want, I will. But, if I don't decide to buy it, would I just cancel the insurance? Should I buy the insurance day of? Genuinely unsure.

My second question is because I'm moving so soon, I'm not sure what address to put on my new insurance policy. Should I put my current address that I will be at for about 3 more weeks and switch it next month? Or should I put it on my new address and assume that I will be able to register in the 30 day period?

I'm sorry if these are dumb questions. It's my first car and my first time buying insurance. I am but a fool!

Since the bot asked me to and it's no doubt helpful: I live in NY and am moving to MA.

Malpractice insurance for law enforcement officers. Is it possible?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:35 PM PDT

Police reform is a hot topic and it got me thinking about solutions beyond culture. Could each officer carry a malpractice policy? Risky officers would be more expensive and bad officers would eventually be uninsurable. If the officer needs to be defended in court, the insurance company does the defense. Thoughts?

Progressive needs proof of residency length..but I don't have it??

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 05:26 PM PDT

I just signed up with Progressive Auto for a car I bought. Now they are asking for proof of length of residency. Easy enough, except I live with my boyfriend and am not on the lease. He pays all the bills. I have all my bills on paperless so never thought about changing my address on most things. My drivers license shows an address from several years ago, like who changes their license every time they move?! Is that a thing? I'm young- I change addresses about every 6 months.

They said they will take a banking statement but it has to have the correct address from 1 year back, because I said I have been living at my current address for 1 year. But I only changed my address with my bank a few months ago, so my statements reflect that. I'm pretty certain the bank is the only thing with my current address on it.

They say that if I can't show proof of length of residence by the end of the month my premiums will go up, and they can't tell me how much.

    Any advice?

    Car accident situation

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 03:59 PM PDT

Long story short my buddy the one night asked me to drive our one friend home using his car. Now about me I am a licensed driver had only been driving a few months so I didn't have a car or my own insurance but my buddy assured me it was okay bc he had full coverage so I drove our friend home. On the way back I totaled the car, hydro planned off the right and flipped. I was not injured and the accident was due to bad weather. I live in Pennsylvania outside Philly area suburbs and it's a no fault state so his insurance isn't covering my medical bills bc even tho I wasn't injured they had me get checked out. Now the hospital keeps saying they need my car insurance information but I only have health insurance. What do I do?

Asking the adjuster to total the car

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 03:56 PM PDT

So I got into a side swipe with a truck on my 2016 Lexus ES 350 the initial repair cost is 6k but I assume there will be a supplement. I have a 2k deductible. The trade in value for the car is 18-20k. Can I ask geico for a salvages bid? I don't see the point of 6-8k for a cosmetic repair and have the car back on the road. When they could get a salvage bid + repair will exceed the ACV. Can I ask the adjuster to total the car? Or ask for a salvage bid.

Where should I get started in Insurance Sales?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:53 PM PDT

    Hello Redditors,

I am interested in getting into insurance sales and eventually with experience maybe buy a franchise. I would like to know the thread's perspective on the best way to get started in the industry today. This would be for Denver, Colorado.

If you were to give advice to someone looking to enter the industry, which brand would you recommend and why?

Also what are your thoughts on the Allstate and Goosehead franchises? ( just kicking tires and spoke with them )

I appreciate any constructive advice you can provide to a perspective newbie.

    Wind/hail insurance worth it?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2020 02:26 PM PDT

    Hello!

We are new homeowners and live in Texas, SE Houston area near the gulf. The quotes for wind/hail here are expensive....like 1700-3500 a year with 1% deductible. We have an aging tile roof.

My question is: is it worth it to get the insurance? If we replace our whole roof with tile, from my research, it should cost about 15k. Edit: upon more research tile is 16-30k for a complete replacement, but I suppose we could alwats replace with shingles. If I pay a moderate 2 k a year and 3k deductible (if something happens) Im basically hoping my whole roof needs replaced due to a hurricane in the next 5 years.

We were thinking about just skipping the insurance and replace it ourselves when needed THEN insure our new roof? Am I way off base? Im just having a hard time seeing the value.

Our home warranty offers limited roof coverage for $8/month up to 1k in repairs for minor issues.

    Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
