Arthroscopic knee surgery "Medically unnecessary" according to United Healthcare.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 10:01 PM PDT

    In Wisconsin/USA

My wife tore her MCL back in October. The MRI noted a high grade partial tear.

She has surgery scheduled for Wednesday. Of course we got a letter on Friday from United Healthcare saying the surgery is Medically unnecessary.

How can a ligament tear surgery be Medically unnecessary?

She keeps reinjuring it because stability in her knee is gone.

What are my options to fight this?

    12,000$ deductible

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 07:15 PM PDT

I am on United Health and the deductible is 12,000. Does this mean I have to spend 12,000$ in doctor's visits before insurance will pay. The price is 79$ monthly I am seeking a hysterectomy for gender dysphoria would the procedure count towards the deductible? Or will I have to pay 12,000$ in doctor's visits before they even cover anything

Water damage in condo. Quotes are all higher than what insurance is offering

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 02:22 AM PDT

I've had water damage in my ceiling from the condo above me. The adjuster is not offering what local contractors or even a handyman has estimated to repair the damage. Insurance has not sent out an adjuster and are going by photos and measurements. But how can I get the work done when they don't reimburse enough to cover the work? I cannot do it myself.

I understand I will be paying the deductible and am taking that into account. Georgia location.

People who work in the USA Car insurance industry, How much insurance do you actually carry?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 09:47 PM PDT

I'm the type of person who believes in those who try their own product. For curiosity, how much insurance do you have on your own personal vehicles? I'm curious to see if Insurance insiders tend to carry more car insurance than other people.

This is for the entire United States, but specify the state you're in right now.

Is having my father on my car insurance plan a major liability?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 06:37 PM PDT

My wife and I currently have an auto insurance plan that also includes my father, who is 70. He drives minimally and has not experienced any significant accidents or other driving issues.

My auto insurance agent told me that I should consider making separate plans (wife and I on one and father on another) due to the fact that my wife and I own a home. He stated that if my father happens to be at fault in a significant accident, my home and other assets could possibly be at risk. Is this true??

My car was stolen last night

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 09:09 AM PDT

Hi folks. My car was stolen last night [link]( https://ring.com/share/6835436345637404674 ) from my driveway. do yall have any experience with nationwide and the stolen car process? I have two basic questions:

    1. how long does it take? do i get reimbursed or do they need to find the car or what?
    2. i have enough money to payoff the balance of the car from the lender. should i do that asap? will that make the insurance process easier?

I'm in GA per the request from the bot.

Edit - it was found and is currently in an impound lot. No idea of condition. Thank y'all so much for your help!

I’m 700 miles away from home and I hit a truck tire on the highway that damaged my car. I have full coverage and have never filed a claim before. Advice?

    Posted: 08 Jun 2020 12:10 AM PDT

Long story short I was driving at twilight in the panhandle of Texas. Very dark, no light outside at all.

A large truck tire was in the middle of my lane and there was a car traveling parallel to me. The pavement is completely black and there's no way it could have been avoided. I had attempted to straddle it because it's either that or drive off the highway or into the other car in the half a second I could react.

As far as I know the car is driveable but my skid plate is heavily damaged and front bumper are damaged. Tires are fine and the car isn't pulling. I'm staying with a friend in the area and I'm here for a week. How should I approach this?

I am a healthy 27 year old male who just accepted a job as a manager in a locally-owned restaurant in Wisconsin. After 90 days the owners are paying $150 bi weekly to help cover health insurance costs. Is there a good way to find a good healthcare plan with that much?

    Water damage from above floor

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 06:15 PM PDT

So tonight my wife went to give my kids a bath, and when I came downstairs I heard a drip, drip, drip...turned the corner and saw this in the ceiling of our kitchen.

I have never had a home claim before that wasn't cut and dry (hail storm):

Can I open this up to dry everything out or do I need to wait for an adjuster?

Is there a possibility that the damage isn't that bad and aside from whatever plumbing/drain issue there is with our shower that it might just be a matter of drying out and replacing that sheet of drywall? We have a $1k deductible.

From a quick Google search, insurance may cover the damage resulting from the plumbing issue but not the plumbing repair itself. I am going to guess the plumber may have to go through the wall of the adjacent room to get to the shower lines. Would demo/replacing that wall be covered or is that considered part of the plumbing job?

How do you determine what is under insuring versus over insuring something?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 05:08 PM PDT

So for instance I am looking at car insurance and I'm having a hard time gauging the risk of how much coverage is logical to have. From my brain, I conclude that having at least 75k/200k/50k insurance is the absolute minimum reasonable amount of insurance to have. My justification for these numbers is that most non fatal disability settlements are in the sub $100,000 range. $200,000 would cover upwards of 3 large non fatal settlements. $50,000 in property damage insurance is great since the average sale price for a new car is $37,000; which would give me $13,000 more in buffer room for property damage claims.

This is where my judgement gets' fuzzy, how reasonable would it be to pay a few dollars extra for 250k/500k liability coverage ($250,000 a person/ $500,000 an accident)? I figure, heaven forbid someone dies in a car accident where you're at fault (happens around 1% of the time in collisions) , these settlements will realistically be upwards of a million dollars.

Hypothetically you cheap out on car insurance and only have sub $100,000 in bodily injury coverage. If there's a $900,000 gap for a 1 million dollar settlement or even an "earthly" $500,000 settlement; realistically the insurance company will sue you to garnish 25% of your wages for possibly the rest of your life.

Would it then thus be a logical price to pay maybe 10% extra in premiums to have a 250k/500k policy? That way if someone dies and you're at fault driving, you will be much less likely to have your wages garnished and the insurance company will likely settle/lawyer up rather than a payout?

Any thoughts? I'm confused about liability coverage,

My options I'm willing to buy are:

    • 75/150/50
    • 75/200/50
    • 100/300/50
    • 300/300/50
    • 250/500/50

What do you think would be a logical choice given that I'm young and I don't have tons of assets?

19 years old car insurance on a financed car

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 04:21 PM PDT

Long story short: I am currently a 19 year old college student in Connecticut with a clean driving record since 16 and need to get insurance. My parents do not want me on their insurance for whatever reasons. The car is a 2015 economy sedan and it is financed under my name and my dad's name. How would this work?

Edit: I make around 600 a month during semester and have internships lined up this and next summer that pays around ~22/hr

    No Fault, Deductible Not Recovered

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 04:01 PM PDT

    Hi All,

Someone hit my partner's car a few months ago. He took photos, and the police came and determined he was not at fault. He received a letter today that they can't recover his deductible. We are in NY. Do we need to sue the driver to get this back? I'm not sure what to do here, and it was only 500 dollars.

Does a mortgage insurance that pays off the loan at death exist, and if so, is it a standard purchase?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 02:13 PM PDT

My step son unexpectedly passed at age 32. He had few assets but built a house ~5 years ago with the land my SO provided as collateral for the loan (roughly 300k).

My SO's ex is convinced there is insurance that will pay the house off on death. We haven't found any documentation supporting this. While a great kid, he was not financially sophisticated (we are farmers) and it is doubtful he would have purchased any policies that weren't required.

Is this type of insurance available and more so, is it common? It would be great if he had such a thing but I am worried people are getting their hopes up for something that isn't likely. He had no life insurance or anything similar.

Thank you truly for any insight.

Edit: all parties are in the state of Virginia.

Feel like I am getting nowhere in my health insurance journey

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:52 PM PDT

I am currently seeking insurance outside of my parent's insurance for a hysterectomy. It is for gender dysphoria and when I signed up for a quote I got a TON of calls from different agents. Every single agent puts me on hold for exactly two seconds like there's a beat of music for the hold music and then "actually we don't have any agents currently available do you consent to being texted plans?" I know every agent follows a script and at first I felt like maybe me talking about hysterectomy for gender dysphoria was uncomfortable for them or something and they didn't want to or know how to help. But there were two calls where I didn't even mention dysphoria and it was the same put on holds for a few seconds then told there was no one. Can anyone help me out? What's going on? Also how do I know if plans cover dysphoria?

Neighbor's Tree Branch Fell on My Car's Hood

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:24 PM PDT

See title. It didn't cause much damage with the exception of two tiny dent/scratches that are each about 1cm. My car has previous hail damage that I didn't bother to fix. The car is a 2014 Mazda 3 that is paid off and I live in Texas. Should I report this to my insurance or is the damage too negligible (with the existing hail damage) to go through that process?

Car door hit during high wind by another car. Driver left. Will Uninsured motorist property damage cover the cost?

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 01:07 PM PDT

Today was really windy. 40mph + (California) When I returned to my car after grocery shopping I noticed a long ding on my car door. Very obviously looking like another car's door blew open fast and hit mine. It's a really ugly crease and pretty deep. The store doesn't have any video footage, the other driver didn't leave a note or anything. I do have Uninsured motorist property damage insurance. Would they cover something like that since I don't have any info on the other vehicle? Would my $500 deductible be waved? Any help is much appreciated!!!!!!

State Farm Pocket Estimate vs. shop estimate.

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:53 AM PDT

Someone hit my car in a parking lot. State Farm requested that I use their pocket estimate app to generate an estimate for the repair costs, which I did. The repair costs that the app came up with are (not surprisingly) low. Do I have the option to take my car to an auto shop, obtain an estimate from them, and then ask State Farm to send me a check for that amount instead?

    Insurance for Bad Auto History

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 08:52 AM PDT

Hey y'all! I'm a 21 year old f who's car recently went caput so I'm in the market. Problem is, I had two accidents within the past few years (April 2019 and November 2019) and for any newer car full coverage has been quoted $400+\ a month for me. I can't pay that much but unfortunately I need a ride. What are my best options here? Is there an insurance that will give me a lower rate and I just haven't found it or? Insurance help for a leased car

    Posted: 07 Jun 2020 11:35 AM PDT

I'm thinking about changing my insurance. I'm currently insured through travelers, and I'm paying 170 a month 😬 I have a leased car so I have to have the whole shabang of coverage. I've had a few tickets and accidents (one accident was the other drivers fault, and the other accident both me and the other were at fault) but those haven't affected my current insurance cost. Do you guys think I can find insurance any cheaper than that?
