Are aftermarket car parts covered by insurance?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 01:18 PM PDT

Let's say I add $5000 of aftermarket parts all in all. Will that get covered too? I googled around but couldn't get a clear answer.

Made a big mistake, need help (NJ)

    Posted: 15 May 2020 02:05 AM PDT

I had the highest levels of coverage on Amica, and was paying $150 a month. I dropped my coverage to the lowest levels of coverage on Esurance for a month because I wasn't driving and was paying $70 a month. Now I'm trying to go back to my old Amica plan and they want $460 a month. The agent didn't tell me this when I told her my plan on the phone last month. Is there anything I can do?

Just got in a car accident.. Need some advice

    Posted: 15 May 2020 12:55 AM PDT

    Hi, [canada, toronto]

About 2 hours ago, i got into a car crash were I didnt see a turn and went right into an electical box. The car is most likely totaled.

The cops wrote careless driving as cause of the ticket.

I got in the accident due to a lack of vision as it was foggy.

As this is my first accident, what exactly do i do now? The car is an Audi a4 and was worth 27k at the time. The car is now worth roughly 22k. I have insurance with certas desjardin and have the audi coverage. Tomorrow morning ,I plan on calling the insurance company and open claim.. How exactly should I approach this? Any advices on what or what not to tell them in order to maximize my chances of getting good moneyback from them?

    Thank you

    Auto insurance question

    Posted: 14 May 2020 11:48 AM PDT

Hello, so I have a question. Back in December of 2018 I scrapped the passenger side of my car against a giant concrete post while trying to park. Now, a year and a half later I am trying to get it fixed. I never filled a claim at the time because I was an irresponsible/ financially unstable 22 year old that didn't know how to do any of that. Am I going to have to pay all out of pocket for my vehicle to be fixed? Or would I just have to pay my deductible. I had insurance at the time and still have insurance as of right now. Thanks in advance!

    Home insurance

    Posted: 14 May 2020 04:09 PM PDT

Hey all, We started a deck on the back of our house. When we went up to the roof, it's a flat roof over the addition, we notice that the roof was a little flimsy. After removing the gutters we noticed that the roof is no longer attached and is rotting away. Before going any further, any advice to help my insurance claim if I decide to submit one? Without tearing into it too much it looks like a good section is rotted and will need to be replaced maybe 2-3k worth of work...

Can only get storage coverage if in military?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 09:39 PM PDT

EDIT: this is about auto insurance

Sigh, i've called progressive 3 times, 2 times they said i can get storage i was just gonna do it later. Today I called the guy said I can't get it anymore and that in my state of IL i can only get it if in the military. he apoligized for the 2 other agents saying i could get it as he saw that quote and told me i can talk to supervisor if i want and I didn't want to if he was gonna say the same thing

I said ill call back tomorrow, hoping to talk to a diff agent that will let me get it. However, the dude left a notation on my acc meaning whoever sees that may come up with the military excuse.

At this point, if they don't give me storage, im just gonna cancel the insurance tomorrow. idc about lapse in coverage increasing my rate. in times like these i hope insurance companies understand why people don't have insurance.

    Car Insurance

    Posted: 14 May 2020 08:26 PM PDT

I (20M) would like to move out of my parents house but my car insurance is kind of holding me back. I have a 2012 Toyota Camry and 2 speeding tickets. One in 2017 for going 19 mph over and the other in 2018 for going 45 mph over. The 2018 ticket I got reckless driving and now my insurance is $3600 a year. How can I make it go down?

    Need some advice

    Posted: 14 May 2020 08:04 PM PDT

I filed a $4.5k collision claim in January with Progressive (debris blew onto highway). They renewed my policy without raising my premium. Today I damaged my door pretty badly on a column making a tight turn in an underground garage and I'm estimating about $3k to repair. Will it be suicide to file another claim? My second most recent accident was 7 years ago and my most recent ticket turns 3 yo in November. I'm in NJ if that helps. Thanks in advance

Why is it I can't find any good priced Car insurance quotes?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 03:49 PM PDT

So I've been researching Car Insurance and I've been having horrible luck for car insurance rates. I have tried Esurance, Progressive, The General, Safe Auto, etc and yet all of them are giving me the run around. When I enter in my information they always give me a $140 to $200/month insurance quote. That seems ridiculously high considering my circumstances. My circumstances are:

    • I have a clean driving record (0 speeding tickets, 0 accidents)
    • I'm 21 years old with 5 years of insurance and driving history
    • No criminal record/DUIs
    • The car would be for personal use with only 7000 miles a year
    • The coverage I requested was only $25/50k coverage
    • I also only requested for coverage that includes collision and natural disasters
    • I live in a rural area in a low risk state
    • My car is a 2010 Toyota Camry, 4 door, 4 cylinder
    • Location is Anderson, Indiana, USA

Any thoughts on why my insurance coverage is so sky high?

    Any way around open enrollment?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 03:44 PM PDT

Sorry if this isn't the right place.

Wife and I found out through an eyecare bill that we expected some insurance to pay for but didn't, that none of the changes I made in open enrollment last year were "Submitted" and they just defaulted me to the same as the previous year. I remember filling them out because they were a pain.

Most notably, my son isn't on our dental insurance because of this and that is gonna get expensive. Is there anything I can do to get him even private insurance or, preferably, added to mine? What is the purpose of open enrollment periods anyway?

    We live in Idaho.

FL Not at fault car accident, settlement recieved, now OP insurance is suing me for twice as much as settlement

    Posted: 14 May 2020 06:57 PM PDT

A guy ran a red light after all cars on both south and north bound were stopped. He t bones me totaled my kia. I got a pi lawyer right away. About 16 months later I received a settlement from op insurance Geico. My attorney used 911 calls were 2 separate people stated the 250 pickup ran light causing accident to get settlement. I had no bi on my policy with Progressive at the time. Progressive did not pay any money out to op. Now I have a summons for lawsuit from Geico suing me as individual for op truck $30,000 and $100,000 for his injuries. How the hell can they do this? There is no money for an attorney to go after in my case since I sighed a waiver in order to get my check. And no one i speak to can decide if its a PI case or debt collection. I have a copy of the letter sent from Geico claims adjuster to my attorney stating they agree to pay me, the 911 call and there was no police report. Only a mean elderly police volunteer at the scene. Geico paid for everything for accident I was told accepting their client at fault. I looked up this guy on court records. He's got 2 parking in handicap tickets and 4 speeding tickets, 2 of which are in school zones since 2009 to 2019. Progressive says they wont be getting involved since they are not named in lawsuit and I had no BI on policy. Is there some place or someone I can go to to help me understand the policy to figure out if Progressive should be involved? I filed a motion for more time to get legal representation. Local Barr association referrals are for lawyers that are like $4000 to $6000. Legal aid doest do PI. And my orginal attorney on case says he cant get involved since I've already settled and his superiors wont let him. Anyone familiar with this type of situation? TIA

    Good Auto Insurance in CA?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 06:29 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I'm looking to leave Geico and move on to a different company.

I talked to AAA today and got quoted $235 (including discounts). Then I talked to Wawanesa and got quoted $180.

I would love to do AAA because I was with them under my mom's insurance; however, since I own my car, I can't hop back on my mom's policy.

Any other insurance companies I should look into that has good coverage? I've had one accident almost 2 years ago where I wasn't at fault. I've only had my car for 20 months and I already have 40K miles on it...I commute heavy.

    Thank you!

Not at fault insurance changed to at fault

    Posted: 14 May 2020 06:28 PM PDT

    Hi there,

I have progressive and my wife has had a few incidents in the past.

Previously about two weeks ago, a accident in 2018 was showing not at fault but recently changed to at fault. Any reason why it could be changed?

The incident itself was that the car went in to the ditch due to brake failure. Both reports were pulled from Progressive itself (LexisNexis)

    screenshots

I am located in GA but the incident happened when she was living in CA.

My rear engine glass on my car just cracked. Is my premium going to go up?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 06:04 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

I have a sports car (Alfa Romeo 4C Coupe) and for some time the rear engine glass was starting to fail. Today I noticed that it started to crack.

I have to change my windshield (cracked too) and I know if I change my windshield my premium is not going to go up (thanks Florida). However, the rear engine glass is not like a windshield and it cost $2400 just for the part + installation. My deductible is $500.

I'm just wondering how would this be considered by the insurance? I have no idea how it happened to be honest. Perhaps a defect of some sort.

    Thank you,

Texas Auto Insurance Q: 2 accidents, 1 household = decline for coverage?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 12:04 PM PDT

I was talking to an insurance agent and he mentioned something like if I have two accidents caused by me within a timeframe of 3 years, I may be declined for auto insurance coverage. Does this sound like a company-specific policy or is it a Texas-specific law?

The agent wasn't sure if it was a department of insurance or company rule... Google search has not been fruitful.

    Thanks in advance.

Are different auto insurance companies better for different people/situations?

    Posted: 14 May 2020 02:00 PM PDT

Like would State Farm be better for one person's situation, where Liberty Mutual or Geico would be better for other people?

Edit: If it makes a difference (which I don't think it should), I'm in Arkansas

Need help and answers regarding my deceased dad's life insurance

    Posted: 14 May 2020 11:33 AM PDT

Hi, hoping to get some help here because I think this issue is time-sensitive. This is my first time dealing with any kind of insurance so I'll just tell the whole story. This is going to be quite long so I apologize, but I would really appreciate any help from anyone who knows about this stuff.

My dad is an American citizen and he passed away 2 days ago to natural causes. Our family has been living in the Philippines the last 15 years or so (I'm half American half Filipino). My 17y.o. brother and I are the two beneficiaries (both American citizens as well) of my dad's $1 million life insurance policy, which he has had for over the last decade.

I have all the details I need -- his Metlife username, password, and policy #, his personal identification details, and we're currently processing his death certificate which should take about a week.

I was on call with Metlife yesterday to submit the claim since the claims page on their website doesn't work at all. The lady was nice but didn't really know anything beyond how to collect my details and submit the claim to the claims team, and she said I would hear from them in 7-10 business days.

So here are some things that are stressing me out:

    1) My parents were overdue on the payment for my dad's policy. He was due to pay on April 4, 2020, but because of the lockdowns (here and in the US), our banks were closed and couldn't accept the wire transfer and Metlife was unresponsive with helping. He passed away on May 12.

Thankfully, I did some Googling and found out about the grace period, which is typically just 30 days, but Metlife posted an announcement saying that they would extend the grace period to 60 days because of the COVID-19 situation (https://www.metlife.com/nysutmemberbenefits/covid-19-Update/). His policy also still says "(Insured)" on his Metlife account, so that's good, right?

So what's going to be the situation here? He passed away while we were in the grace period for payment. Does this mean we will have to pay for April and May before this can count? If so, that isn't a problem. Will it even still "count", or will they use this as a reason to deny the claim? I just want to hear from someone who knows more about this.

Finally, I'm worried that they might take so long that the June 4th end of the 60 day grace period will pass before I can make this payment. Is this something I should be concerned about, and if so, is there anyway to expedite this process or skip a step to go straight to someone who could help? 7-10 business days is about 2 weeks and 2 weeks would put us too close to June 4.

    2) Just a general life insurance question. I am VERY nervous about this. Is there any reason to be nervous? My dad signed up for his life insurance policy in his late 50s and he was paying about $1200 a month. He died at the age of 70. How often do they deny life insurance claims? Is this a sure thing or is this 50/50 or what? How often are these claims denied in similar situations?

    A few more questions:

    • How long would this take? I looked it up and it said it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 60 days; is this accurate?

    • Aside from the death certificate, will they ask me to provide any other details/information?

    • Will there be ANY problem at all since he passed away outside of the country?

    • When the claims team answers, will it be through mail or email? The Metlife lady asked me for my mailing address here in the Philippines and it made me nervous, so I gave her my mailing address alongside my email. If they think they're going to mail info to us, it will literally arrive in July -- the postal here has gone insane because of the lockdowns.

If you need any other information please ask. My family is counting on me to handle all this and I really just want to make sure I process this successfully.

    Thanks!

Edit: One last question -- for anyone who has gone through this process, how exactly does it work, step-by-step? I assume you file the claim, the claims team looks over it, asks for the death certificate, and if there's no issue then they send the money to you? How do they transfer the money over to you; do they ask for bank account details of the beneficiaries and wire the money?

I hate talking about this because I don't want to come off like I'm happy my dad passed away. But he also would be absolutely disappointed in me if I messed this up somehow.
