California car insurance: Geico automatically assigning highest risk driver on the highest risk vehicle, regardless of who drives the car?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 04:57 PM PDT

Just got off the phone with Geico regarding my renewal rates (went up more than I thought), and was informed that whoever is considered the riskiest (most expensive to insure) driver in the household will automatically be assigned to the most expensive (to cover) vehicle on the policy. This is regardless of who actually drives what car. That seems pretty harsh to me. Do all insurance carriers do that in California? Are there any that don't?

Background: wife is the assigned driver for her BMW (old), and I am the assigned driver for my Tesla (new). Wife got into a small at fault accident in her BMW, so was expecting the rate for that car to go up. Instead, they raised the rate for the Tesla, and kept the BMW rate the same. They also automatically reassigned her as the main driver now for the Tesla and me for the BMW, even though we never drive each other's cars. Doesn't make sense!

The wiring system and cables in my car were chewed and destroyed by rats

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:30 AM PDT

I have a '07 Suzuki Grand Vitara and due to the environment where I live, rats would seek shelter inside the engine bay and bite off wires and cables. As a result, I can't even start the car. Can I claim the insurance for this mess? How do I explain my situation to them?

Premera Blue Shield Denied Claim - Help

    Posted: 27 May 2020 01:29 AM PDT

Our insurance has the weirdest contingency ever and it's such a hassle and honestly makes 0 sense in a lot of situations - they want a referral from my husband GP for everything and anything.

However, due to the way the doctor system works here in California, if my husband gets sick, he can't see his GP until about 2 months out.... so if he is sick and needs immediate help, he has to walk into something like Doctors on Duty or an urgent care.

I'm pregnant and tested positive for a generic disease. My doctor wrote a prescription for a blood draw to see if my husband was a carrier. If he wasn't, then our baby wouldn't get it.

My husband did the draw. Mine was 100% covered by the insurance because it's pregnancy related.... my husbands was over $500.... however, isn't this sexist? How would I go about fighting this or getting them to cover the claim?

Secondly, he had Flu B in December and went to a doctors on duty for help and they charged him $200+ to be seen... again insurance denied because his doctor didn't refer him. How would we go about fighting this?

He hasn't seen this GP in so long that I'm wondering why even bother? Both systems are broken. What do I say? What do I do? They should cover at least a portion...

[USA/MI] Ex claimed that our son is not on his health insurance plan, then proceeds to say that our son has dental coverage? + gave info after I had already paid out-of-pocket.

    Posted: 26 May 2020 05:41 PM PDT

Pardon my ignorance, but I'm awfully confused.

    Long story short:

Son [age 8] had to get an emergency tooth extraction due to a cracked molar, and I called my ex to get insurance information, only to be told that our son was not on his plan. He then calls back after I had paid out-of-pocket (600$), to give info on a dental plan that he says covers our son.

    Additional info:

In Michigan, after a divorce, any parent who has reasonable access to health insurance is required to provide it for the child. Ex is offered insurance through his company; I am self-employed and do not have access to affordable insurance.

Ex has himself & his new wife(?) under the plan, and claims that his wife opted to drop our son from the plan because it was "too expensive" (I believe their daughter & his wife's(?) children are covered under their plan, but I'm not 100% certain; may not be relevant, but I included it as info, just in case).

    Questions:

    • Can you have dental coverage for a person without having health insurance?
    • The dental office said that it looked like the insurance went through, and I was going to receive a refund/compensation for my out-of-pocket payment. It has not yet been received. Who would I talk to about this in order to resolve the matter?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

California Insurance: My mom and I both have AAA insurance and live under same roof. What is the best scenario for me to get my insurance to go cheaper?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:26 PM PDT

She has a perfect record and drives a 2005 Toy Matrix and only works on Saturday. My DUI has been 10 years now so I got new insurance, and went with AAA. (I did get a cellphone ticket 18 months ago). I drive a 2011 Lexus GS350 that I am paying $200 monthly for insurance and I drive a lot to work (400mi weekly). I'm thinking the best scenario would be for my mom to put the GS350 under her name as a secondary car. She can update the insurance with the Matrix mileage increasing annually since I will be borrowing it to work. With the money I save by not having Lexus under my name and driving it to work, we can increase the coverage to like $1Million for both cars so my mom doesn't get sued for the house. What do you guys think?

How does Home Tenant Insurance work exactly?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:07 PM PDT

Theoretically if my home is broken into and valuables such as jewelries, TV, computer, electronic appliances, etc, are stolen, how exactly do I prove that these things have been taken?

Logically I'd think that receipts of valuables would be the best proofs, but what about valuables that don't have receipts or the receipts have been lost because they were purchased a long time ago?

Should I take recent pictures of all the belongings in the house monthly as proof to the insurance company?

    P.S. I live in Canada

How can I get a doctor to prescribe me motocross knee braces as preventative "durable medical equipment" when I am not injured?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:01 PM PDT

Im in Oregon, USA. One doctor I called told me that I'd need to have chronic knee pains for him to prescribe the knee braces (CTI, Donjoys, Asterisks, Leatt, etc.). I do not want to wait to get injured, pay over $20k in medical bills, and then have my knee braces covered. I'd rather have these knee braces prescribed if I can do so, whether that be sweet talking the doctor into a prescription or finding a doctor who understands preventative measures for motocross riders. Any tips?

Cross Border Insurance: Do I need it if I don't have a warehouse in America (Canadian Seller)

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:00 PM PDT

    Hey,

I been selling in Canada for a while.

I recently setup a new corporation for selling online in America (on a number of websites not only Amazon). I'm paying ~$1500 CAD a year for this new corporation to be insured within Canada (2mill liability)

But I asked for American insurance, but I was quoted an extra $5000 CAD a year WTF ? Is this normal? For Canadian sellers selling in USA, how much are you guys paying, and how can I get this rate down? Is it normal? Any reccomendations on insurance providers?

Do I need this if I don't have a warehouse in America? Essentially, I'm just exporting the goods? But selling online to consumers essentially

Personal Articles Policy - Swapping drones

    Posted: 26 May 2020 09:19 PM PDT

So I have (or had) a DJI Mavic 2 pro. I got it insured with State Farm for $60/year. A steal considering my history with drones. Anyways, my buddy crashed it in the ocean yesterday and he agreed to buy me a new one as it was his fault. The question is... Could I have that new drone under the same policy? My old drone's serial number is attached to my policy. Would they be able to easily switch serial numbers without changing the policy or costing me money? Thanks in advance :)

    Not declaring car mods

    Posted: 26 May 2020 08:21 PM PDT

I have never declared any mods on my car like most people as it would cause my insurance to be cancelled. Has anyone ever ended up in a situation where they had an at fault accident in a car with mods they didnt declare? What did you do? Did you remove parts before the adjuster saw it? Any consequences?

    Car involved in 2 accidents

    Posted: 26 May 2020 11:32 AM PDT

Question: Will my first accident, that I did not file a claim on, make me ineligible for a payout on my second accident?

Okay so my 2013 Dodge Dart was involved in 2 accidents. The first being my fault and the second was a hit and run. Details are bulleted below to keep things concise.

    Insurance (Missouri, USA)

    • Liability only
      • However I do have uninsured protection
        • I am thinking the latest accident would fall under this protection service because the other driver ran away.
    • Insurance agency only deals with one mechanic shop in my area. This shop is more "high end" than the other shops around. They basically guarantee that your car will be as good as it was before the accident.

    First accident

    • Single car accident, obviously I am at fault
    • significant damage to the front bumper, hood, and undercover
    • Police report was made, pictures were taken
    • Claim was not filed and insurance does not know about this incident.
    • Repairs were done mainly done by me, however I did have a mechanic do what I couldn't. Paid him in cash and did not receive a receipt.
    • The repairs done were some welding (there was some damage to the frame). The parts replaced were oil pan, radiator, hood clasp, and radiator support.
    • The body work wasn't heavily damaged. There was some scraping on the bumper with some holes. I fixed that up. There were some corners of the hood pushed up (think a book with the corner pages bent upwards).

    Second accident

    • 2 car collision in gravel parking lot. My car was parked and got hit. The other driver drove off without leaving any contact information. The parking lot does not have designated spaces
    • passenger side was hit. Both doors and front fender are dented. Will need to be replaced and painted
    • Police report was made, pictures were taken
    • Claim has not yet been filed.

    In Conclusion

    1. Will I have to notify my insurance company about the first accident if I try to file a claim about the second accident?
    2. If the second claim totals my car will I receive less back if my insurance finds out about the first accident?
    3. While looking at my car, can the mechanics declare my car totaled from the first accident, leaving me shit out of luck and with a higher premium?
    4. Should I notify my insurance at all about the first accident?

Thanks for all the help guys!

Townhouse basement flooded by neighbors failed sump pump.

    Posted: 26 May 2020 07:30 PM PDT

I have been living in the townhouse for 9 years. Not once have I experienced any type of flooding. I have a sump pump + backup. I'm in Illinois, lake county, my neighbors usually vacation for multiple months in Florida. We had lots of rain last week, their sump pump failed and their basement water got into my unit. I got about 1-2 inches of water.

I called my insurance agent, Allstate, to figure out what to do on Monday morning. She has told me to fail a claim, and gave me the claim numbers. I did that and I was waiting for them to figure it out, by Thursday they told me that it is not covered under my sewer, sump pump backup and that it would have to be under the neighbors liability.

I called the neighbors liability claim, also Allstate, and they told me that they would not be able to cover it, since there was no negligence. Neighbors told me that they don't know when they have serviced the sump pump or had it replaced. They have been out of state for at least 5 months at that point.

I have been calling my agent, on Friday, through the weekend and today,. Tuesday, but she is telling me that she can not get a hold of anyone in claims, so she can't help me with more details from claims.

I have put carpet and finished my basement in the last 2 years or so. Now I see that carpet is discolored and smells, wood trim is messed up as well, lots of personal property is ruined. Dehumidifier and fans are running non stop.

What can or should I be doing at this point? I feel hopeless.

Arizona: Can you work part-time while on short term disability?

Full Coverage: Is engine hydrology due to flood covered?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 05:15 PM PDT

Geico FL. I let a friend drive my 335i BMW and he went through a gnarly puddle. Its been flash flooding here in south FL.

I feel bad it was an honest mistake. He is insisting on paying for the damage, but if I can go through insurance and pay the $250 deductible I'd much rather do that for his sake.

I have full coverage on the vehicle. I own it outright. Before I waste anyone's time is water/engine damage covered under comp or collision

    Medical insurance problem

    Posted: 26 May 2020 10:56 AM PDT

I'm from NJ and have NJ Fam Care health insurance. I thankfully just got fully approved for my ACL Reconstruction surgery with everything covered so rejoice right? Well my doctor called and said that he is able to do the surgery but the surgical assistant is refusing to or unwilling to do the surgery BC of the insurance I have. The reason we were given is that the surgical assistant will not get compensated as much as if they took a person with different health insurance and will not assist in the surgery bc it isn't worth their time. Is this legal for them to deny my surgery solely on the fact that the surgical assistant is refusing BC of my insurance? Is this not discrimination in some way? I'm a 21M and I just want to get back into my normal routine and I'm in the Army National Guard so I really need this surgery for my career as well. Thanks!

Someone else was driving my car and got ticket for operating a cellphone in New York, Queens. Will my insurance premium rise?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 10:32 AM PDT

The driver who got ticket (1225-D) does not own any cars so he does not have auto insurance. When I looked at the ticket, it has his license info, but not my insurance or VIN/plate #s.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks!

Can my wife answer "no" on the "prior claims" question for new homeowners insurance if a renters insurance claim is pending on my insurance?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 08:26 AM PDT

My wife is shopping for a new home homeowners policy and there's the question about previous claims... There's a pending claim on my renter's policy for which my wife is listed on. It's been pending for a few months, nothing paid out yet. (Both in California)

When does the CLUE report get updated? Will this show up on my wife's report now? For new homeowners applications - does she have to report this as a "prior claim" if 1. It's not finalized and 2. She's not the primary on the renters insurance?

In other words are we in the clear to answer "no" on the prior claims question so as to avoid a larger homeowners insurance premium or will this come back to bite us?

    Thanks!

    Insurance won’t cover

    Posted: 26 May 2020 03:11 PM PDT

I was involved in an accident where the other car failed to yield, I swerved to avoid hitting their car, but then spun out and collided with the curb. Both tires on my driver's side are damaged and the car can't drive. The other drive received a citation and police confirmed they were at fault. Now here's the unfortunate part: I don't have collision coverage. My agent told me that since I didn't actually make contact with the other car, I'm held responsible for being in control of my vehicle. My insurance won't cover a penny. Am I now stuck without a car and having to pay out of pocket despite not being at fault? Thanks for the help for anyone who replies!

[INDIANA] DIMINUTION IN VALUE CASES Dunn v. Meridian Mut. Ins. Co., 836 N.E.2d 249 (Ind. 2005).

    Posted: 26 May 2020 02:33 PM PDT

Can someone help me understand this case. So with this case a 1st party claim can be made if your insurance is paying under your UIM coverage? I found the following summary for this case "In suit for DIV under UIM policy, court said that because UIM policy was paying on behalf of uninsured tortfeasor, it also owed DIV damages. Dunn v. Meridian Mut. Ins. Co., 836 N.E.2d 249 (Ind. 2005)." Does this mean if repairs were paid under UIM the insured can also seek/ make a claim for DIV? Thanks in advance for the help.

    MPI - NC

    Posted: 26 May 2020 02:03 PM PDT

    Good Day,

I have a general question. I am a disabled veteran and have been since I was injured back in 2001. I am looking to find out about Mortgage Protection Insurance. I am still working not 100% but I probably have a higher chance of becoming 100% disabled from the workforce then I do of dying, and lets face it I Have per-existing conditions, and want to make sure at worst case I am protected if only for a few years while I would figure everything else out should the worst be expected. I am not expecting it personally as I have been in the workforce since the injury full time, but as i get older I do have that concern and many years ago I tried to obtain LTD but im pretty much disqualified because of my current medical conditions - Any thoughts?

TLDR: Disabled vet, per-exisiting conditions, looking for MPI in case i become completely disabled in the future

if "Uninsured Motorist Property Damage" does not pay when I get hit by a hit & run driver that the police can't catch, does my comprehensive coverage pay for the repairs? If so, does it count as my fault and increase my future premiums?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:43 PM PDT

    location [USA]

It's renewal time, so I'm doing the obligatory reading of almost everything on my police. I came upon this exception, which I hadn't noticed before.(it was probably always there, but I just never noticed it)

GEICO: "Uninsured Motorist Property Damage pays damages you are legally entitled to recover because of damage to your insured vehicle caused by uninsured motorists. We do not provide Uninsured Motorists coverage for property damage caused by a hit-and-run vehicle whose operator or owner cannot be identified."

Several years ago, I was stopped at a red light on a 4-lane road in front of a shopping mall. There was a car on my left. The lane next to me was empty. The far right lane had another car. About 20 seconds into the redlight, a dark maroon car came up from behind and drove on the empty lane between my car and another car. He/she was travelling so fast, my car's right side got swiped. I was not able to see the license plate in time. I pulled into the mall parking lot and call the police. The officer took a report from me and the lady in the car next to me. She also didn't catch the license plate.

I reported it to GEICO when I got home. They sent out an adjuster to my home a couple of days later. He arranged to have my car towed to the dealer's own bodyshop.(which only worked that brand of car) A week later, I went to pick it up. I didn't have to pay anything because the GECIO adjuster said everything was taken care off. (but the receipt showed that GEICO had paid almost $6000)

I never gave it another though until now. Since the police never found the hit & run driver, how did GEICO pay for the repair? Was it through the comprehensive part of my policy? If so, why was I not charged the $1,000 deductible? Also, was that counted like an at-fault accident and affected my subsequent premiums?

By the way, since that accident, I bought and installed front & rear-facing dashcams.. just in case. :) Thanks!

Got a reckless speeding ticket how does this affect my insurance?

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:30 PM PDT

I got a reckless driving ticket in VA. 88 on a 70, $330 6 points. I live in MD. Do these points carry over? Will my rate increase regardless if they carry over? Do I need to fight this case for the safety of monthly premium? Or should I just pay the amount and not worry about it? My main concern is the increased rate on insurance if this haunts me down the road.

Edit: The reckless driving is a class 1 misdemeanor not a criminal conviction.

Edit2: I court said I can pay the fine, not show up to court and take the points.
