Hi! I am currently participating in a competition for designing a theoretical Mars city, and I think Luxury goods will be a major part of the Martian economy because of their novelty. What do you guys think?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 11:52 PM PDT

I am participating in the Mars City State Design Competition organized by The Mars Society by the end of June 2020. I've partnered up with several engineers on r/NexusAurora and so far we made quite a few interesting designs. I'm thinking ahead and I want to come up with ideas on how to make this plan commercially viable.

Due to the special constraint of Mars which would add up $200/kg as delivery cost, every good produced on Mars will be luxury good rather than competitive. I have been studying to find out some marketing strategies for Luxury goods, but I am not experienced in Marketing and would like your help. Is there any books or materials I can study to learn about marketing for Luxury goods?

I want to start an e-commerce business. Should I learn accounting or social media marketing first?

I want to start a private label Shopify business on a niche I won't specify but I'm wondering if I should spend the next 6 months or so learning accounting first or social media marketing. Which will get me closer to my goal quicker. I need to learn both but which first?

    Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this kind of discussion is appropriate here, please tell me if so and I'll delete my post.

Anyone knows where to get business intelligence reports for free ? Maybe somewhere on the DW ? I don't really have the $5k to pay for it... :)

    Cheers

What resources could i use to find a supplier of a product?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 07:30 PM PDT

This is more of a hypothetical, but a serious question: if i wanted to purchase 1 metric ton of nuts or dried fruit, who could i purchase it from? What resources could i use to find producers of such product that i could contact? If producers (for the lack of a better term) are not available for direct contact then how could i find the distributors? I suppose a bit of education in term of how this industry works would help as well. If anyone has any relevant information, it would certainly be helpful.

Going to college at 26 for Supply Chain Management?

    Posted: 08 May 2020 06:51 PM PDT

    Hi everyone!

I'm currently 25 years old with a GED and no prior college under my belt, it just was never financially feasible for me, but I'm starting to get to a point in time where that might change. I work for a pretty large manufacture as a general laborer/packing associate in the United States and they have a lot of opportunities to grow. I don't want to give out the name of the company, but they are a bakery that produces name-brand cookies, granola bars, crackers, etc.

I really want to pursue a degree in Supply Chain Management, but also minor in international business because I want to work for a Japanese manufacturer/company someday (like Toyota); I'm the kind of person that loves to take a step back to think and see the full picture of where things come from and where they are going, and thinking of solutions to make things more efficient, which I assume is in-line with supply chain management type of careers? (correct me if I have the wrong idea). This company, they do not offer any kind of tuition assistance programs at this time, which I'm honestly okay with, because I don't want to work for them forever, just a place to grow and gain more experience. Also, the schedule will be pretty flexible for when I do start classes.

Now to the meat of my question, being 25-26 will the pursuit of a college degree in SCM be a waste of time and money? I'll be roughly 30 years old when I earn a bachelor's degree, and I assume employers will want to see an MBA, so add on another 2 years or so. I would think that employers are looking for someone ready for a mid-level career at that point, but I could be totally wrong (I hope I am anyways, lol). I don't want to waste any more time in my professional life, I want to get moving towards success! I was just hoping to get some general advice, and maybe some similar stories? Thanks, everyone!

Note: I would plan to take my basic courses at a local community college and then transfer to Bowling Green State University, here is the SCM page if you're interested in checking it out: BGSU SCM Program
