Posted: 16 May 2020 06:28 AM PDT Sorry for the brag - I'm just super excited about this. I used to be a senior in the B4 and I got screwed hard. Now I'm hearing that it's possible that, for the rest of my employment at this company, I can work from home every day unless there's a specific reason. Amazing. [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 May 2020 01:03 PM PDT Hey everybody, Feeling philosophical today, what do you think will be in more demand or less demand in the finance/accounting world after coronavirus? Where are the better opportunities (jobs, industries, public accounting. etc) going to be at? Something I think that is interesting, is how the traditional advice of "choose audit or tax based off of your personality" assumption has played out so differently. We've seen that it is completely possible to audit from home and with less direct coworker and client interaction, making it more similar to the work style of a tax position and friendly to introverts. My guess is that a lot of traditional advice/guidance/assumptions for accountants will not be as applicable, with our ability and willingness to work from home increasing. Maybe public accounting will provide similiar work/life to industry with higher pay potential. However, I think that the core role of a cpa as a trusted advisor and middleman to regulations will grow in demand with an increasingly involved federal government. Anyway, what do you all think? Feel free to throw any thoughts that might not fit perfectly with my question in here too. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 May 2020 12:53 PM PDT I'm a first year in Audit at a big4 firm and am really starting to realize this profession isn't for me. I'm not bad at it and I think part of the reason I went into it was because I was good at accounting in school. I just really hate a lot of what goes into auditing. I think controls which is a large part of this job are the absolute worst and most boring thing on the planet. Having to sit through a walkthrough and listen to someone explain a simple process that hasn't changed at all in the last 5 years and then having to document in excruciating detail this simple process is the most soul crushing thing on the planet for me. I actually kind of like substantive testing at times and the part of this job when you come across a problem and really have to think critically on what might be causing it and how to investigate it, but even then that doesn't happen often enough to the point where I think its worth it to stay in this career long term. Maybe its just because I'm still a first year and am often tasked with doing the menial tasks but the way it's looking now I feel like I'll just grow to loathe auditing. Right now my plan is to stay until senior and then leave. I'm curious as to what else is out there that's not auditing and may be more desirable for someone with my interests. I was also a finance major in college and enjoyed that course work and found it more interesting than accounting. I do options trading in my free time and really like it. I know I would never want to do internal audit as I had an internship in internal audit at an F20 company my junior year of college and it was just horrible. I performed well there, but absolutely hated internal audit. So to those out there that started in audit and left for something they found more fulfilling, what was it and what about that career makes it interesting for you? [link] [comments]

Big4/Public accounting in Switzerland or EU Posted: 16 May 2020 08:02 PM PDT I work for a big4 in the US, but I have a dream of moving to Switzerland or at least somewhere in the EU. Does anyone have experience transferring from a US big4 office to Switzerland or somewhere in EU? I'm specifically in forensic consulting but I'm open to trying other areas in public accounting if necessary. I am open to learning French or German if necessary. I probably would not move until a few years from now. [link] [comments]
Posted: 16 May 2020 07:15 PM PDT I'm barely a second year but the idea of being a forensic accountant sounds cool and would like some advice or a pathway? I heard mostly go to B4 get audit experience get CPA then ?!?? Thank you for any tips [link] [comments]

Posted: 16 May 2020 09:51 AM PDT I was supposed to intern with a top 5 public firm this summer, but the internship got cancelled and turned into a two week experience with a full-time job offer starting in Fall 2021. Really hype to be graduating with a job, but problem is I graduate in December of 2020 and will be without a job for almost a year. Can I apply for internships with other firms for Winter 2021 busy season without infringing on any non-compete stuff? Does anyone have any experience with doing another public internship with a different firm after accepting a full-time offer? I was only going to apply to regional & local firms because they're less rigid with their hiring timelines & I can probably get something after I have my degree. I am going to start studying for my CPA after graduation, but still gotta pay rent, and I would love one season of that intern hourly OT. [link] [comments]
Choosing industry within big 4 Posted: 16 May 2020 08:24 PM PDT I am starting in the fall at a big 4 in a big city (think NYC, Chicago, Boston, LA) and I am wondering if I should email the recruiting manager about my preference in industry (hoping I get staffed in that industry) should I wait until I start working or do it now? AMA: Audit>Advisory>T10MBA end of year 1 Posted: 16 May 2020 12:27 PM PDT Hi, I actually love this sub. r/accounting is great albeit sometimes toxic af. Just like public accounting. I started in audit for 2 years, moved to advisory for 2 years, then got into a great MBA program and just finished my first year. I have a great internship with a big tech firm in strategy & operations. I'm flirting with a bunch of ideas though like IB, start ups, search funds, and maybe consulting for next year. Covid might change all that, we'll see. I know that when I was in audit, I felt pretty lost and unsure about what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go. Things felt a little better in advisory and I was able to out a decent gameplan together that included the MBA. I've failed a lot and learned a lot so please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I want to be helpful to folks who are looking for career advice that I wish I had when I was younger. Posted: 16 May 2020 06:16 AM PDT Hello fellow auditors. I worked on audit for about 3 weeks. I used to work around 11-12 hours a day (we don't get paid for any overtime). I honestly thought that I did a good job. At the end of the audit, my senior didn't thank me at all. She even removed from the group chat, where we used to discuss about that audit, as soon as I started working on a different job. I have even asked her for feedback. It has been two weeks, but no reply yet. It really sucks that I didn't get any sort of recognition for my hardwork. How do you cope with that? [link] [comments]
Books to read to get foundational, beginner knowledge of auditing Posted: 16 May 2020 04:07 PM PDT Hello, I have received an offer for a graduate job full time at an accounting firm for audit. Trouble is I study (almost finished) History at University and only have a rough outline of what auditing is. Are there any books that I could read before I start in September to have me be more prepared? If there are any UK focused examples it would be an added bonus! Thank you! [link] [comments]

Resources / books to understand working capital analysis in due diligence in M&A Posted: 16 May 2020 02:04 PM PDT Hi all, I'm interested in learning about working capital analysis as part of due diligence in M&A. Posted: 16 May 2020 09:30 PM PDT Hi, I had a question I was hoping the community could help me with. I currently run a sole proprietorship selling items on Amazon. I wanted to take advantage of the current 21% tax rate on corporations. Once I reach the tax bracket that's greater than 21%, I planned on selling all items I buy as a Sole proprietor to the corporation at cost and having it "sell" them. If I incorporate in Wyoming, and I do believe I qualify as a nexus in California, would I have to pay California corporate tax? What would this tax situation look like for me? Thank you.
