    Learned Helplessness

    Posted: 26 Mar 2020 12:48 AM PDT

While hosting a lot of trainings for top managers, I often come across a syndrome that scientists call a learned helplessness. In short, the essence of the discovery is that when facing frequent failures (in the case of top managers - with misunderstanding from the CEO's side), managers cherish the idea that nothing can be done. They already believe that all their efforts are in vain, they will not be heard anyway, and even attempts to change something themselves are useless. There are such people in almost any team. Unfortunately, based on my experience in a capacity of a CEO, this problem cannot be cured. Such an employee will have to change jobs, and, by the way, it often turns out that under new conditions, in a new team, he or she feels better and starts to believe in his or her strength again. Learned helplessness is not a feature of a particular person but the sum of circumstances and personality traits. Nothing can be done with the latter but the former must be changed.

    Examples of companies that merged?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 06:51 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I'm doing some research on companies that merged and now operate both functions as one, or cases when a company bought another one and now they offer those good and/or services.

I'm a little bit lost, because I have tried searching for it but don't know how to phrase it to get results, so if any of you has some examples I would really appreciate it.

It would be incredibly helpful if it's about companies that develop an app that merged and now function in one single app. Thanks!

    Need some help

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 05:01 PM PDT

I posted this in another subreddit:

    Need some Help

    📷

I currently own a small business that delivers beach equipment to hotels and vacation homes here in Honolulu Hawaii. Obviously business has slowed to a complete halt. I have enough saved to keep things going for a few months before crippling my savings. I no longer have anyone helping me so employees are not an issue. I am trying to figure out my next steps and have a few questions.

SBA loans are being offered with 3.75 % interest rates. Is it worth it to apply for these over applying for a stimulus package ?

As a business owner with no current income am I able to apply for unemployment ?

Others in similar situations what steps are you taking to keep your business above water ?

I am currently applying to jobs that would allow me to work from home but if acquired would only be a temporary thing. Ideally Id like to hang on to my business as I've worked hard for years to make it sustainable for me. Thank you for your time reading this. Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated and helpful. Aloha

What to expect for my upcoming acquisition

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 04:37 PM PDT

    Cross posted...

My company, a software firm, is getting acquired by a giant. I obviously can't say who, but let's just say it's one of the big boys who everybody knows.

I haven't heard any updates on what will happen yet and it's set to go out for press release/get finalized next month. We're a successful company with a great product. No doubt this will be good for the acquiring party.

But that's not what I really care about...

What can I expect for compensation? Will I get a boost in pay? Retention bonus? Stock?

Or will I get thrown in the gutter?

I've never been through an acquisition before so any insight is greatly appreciated.

Networking during the quarantine via telegram group chat

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 03:02 PM PDT

    Hi guys!

With the current quarantine going on, there is tons of free time on everyone's hands. I think this is a fantastic opportunity to be proactive and connect with people all over the world. A great way to do that is by group chats in telegram. I have created a telegram group chat that allows people the opportunity to build business relationships, exchange advice, and learn new things! Please feel free to comment or PM me and I'd be happy to invite you into the group chat! I have built relationships with people via similar group chats and as a result, have created a startup in the artificial intelligence space.

    Cheers

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:45 PM PDT

Basically title. To be clear, we are talking about a PLC in the UK and an LLC in the US, aka a company on the Stock Market, not an Ltd.

edit: I mean against the shareholders will

Is there any good resource for learning corporate experssion/language?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:25 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have been working in the corporate environment for 2-3 years. I have noticed that the language in the corporate is pretty different than the language in real life.

I was wondering if there is a good resource (book, podcast, youtube channel) that teaches corporate language (expressions) and culture(politics, etc).

    What is your opinion?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:10 PM PDT

I want to set up a consulting business, for this I would like to get a feedback for the below sentence. This is not part of a pitch or anything like that. It would just replace the boring statement: "Hey, I am business consultant". Instead I want to say the below:

I show small business owners how to generate more profits, by helping to better market themselves and acquire more clients, without being overwhelmed or stressed.

On a scale from 1 to 10 how much does this resonate with you? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

    How to research competitor landscape?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 02:00 PM PDT

One of our clients is a small specialty chemical company. We're trying to understand what the competitor landscape looks like in terms of:
    - What % of the market is held by big companies and what percentage is held by small companies.

    - How many small specialty chemical companies are there in the US (or worldwide)

    - There must be thousands of small chemical companies, but how should I search to find them (or a list)? Searching always pulls up "Top largest" which isn't relevant to us.

Any tips on how or where to search for this information?

How did you get the product and from who did you get the product? Did you use drop shipping? What did you do and what were the steps that you took to do this? Can you show me a step by step way that you did all this?

Businesses and/or sectors that won't get affected by technology in the long term?

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 12:21 PM PDT

What I mean is, literally just invest in a company today, and if you go in a coma and wake up after 40 years, you wouldn't die of a heart attack from finding out you lost all you worth due to technology beating out a company that didn't innovate in time.

    Examples:

    1. residential rental property is the first I could think of as people will always need a place to live in. Surely, they might change the building materials, the interior is filled with tech gadgets and so on, but unless we'll transfer 7billion people to mars and/or we'll start living in flying objects and not on land anymore. ( Commercial property is not a good 40 year long term investment IMO, as teleworking is on the increase and won't stop, unless AI advances so much to eliminate 80% of the jobs, which would still make offices redundant.)
    2. Utility Companies which have Monopolies in specific cities/areas.
    3. Airports - whatever happens in technology, we are still not going to teleport from one country to the other. ( sea ports are not so good as in the future we might be able to 3D print stuff directly from amazon - and most tourism happens by air and not sea ) - and if space flights become commercially viable, then the airlines would sill use an airport, but just change or add vehicles in the form of spacecrafts.

What other businesses/sectors are 'safe', as I cannot think of anything else, without coming up with a way for tech to disrupt it and/or the businesses are not so scalable?

    Routines to suggest

    Posted: 25 Mar 2020 12:17 PM PDT

What regular routines do people follow to start off the day or your day consists of. What kind of routine helps you to be successful. I'm guessing alot of people follow some kind of schedule? It would be good to know what different people do while we are all under quarantine.
