    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Fundamentals Friday Feb 07, 2020

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:07 AM PST

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on fundamentals, but if fundamentals aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against fundamentals here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Most fundamentals are updated every 3 months due to the fact that corporations release earnings reports every quarter, so traders are always speculating at what those earnings will say, and investors may change the size of their holdings based on those reports. Expect a lot of volatility around earnings, but it usually doesn't matter if you're holding long term, but keep in mind the importance of earnings reports because a trend of declining earnings or a decline in some other fundamental will drive the stock down over the long term as well.

See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki:

    Market Cap - Shares Outstanding - Volume - Dividend - EPS - P/E Ratio - EPS Q/Q - PEG - Sales Q/Q - Return on Assets (ROA) - Return on Equity (ROE) - BETA - SMA - quarterly earnings

If you have a basic question, for example "what is EBITDA," then google "investopedia EBITDA" and click the Investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned.

Opinion: Uber makes a lot of big promises for 2020 — now it just has to live up to them

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 09:06 AM PST

Uber Technologies Inc. Chief Executive Dara Khosrowshahi made some big promises Thursday, and investors are counting on him to come through in the year ahead.

Uber UBER, +8.52% again lost more than $1 billion in the fourth quarter, as it has every quarter of its public life, but the loss was still smaller than analysts and investors expected. Most important, Khosrowshahi promised that Uber had changed its spendthrift ways in 2019 and would achieve profitability at the end of 2020 — on an adjusted basis, of course — ahead of the previously set schedule. In after-hours trading, Uber shares jumped more than 5%, showing investors' enthusiasm for the Uber that Khosrowshahi promises will soon exist.

"To me, these results are validation of the strategy we set in 2019," Khosrowshahi said in a conference call Thursday afternoon. "We'll continue to relentlessly execute our plans for each of our businesses in 2020."

Tesla's surge inspires fans to buy, skeptics to dig in, drives fear of missing out

The electric vehicle maker's stupendous rally in recent months has given shareholders something to cheer about, cost short sellers billions of dollars and vindicated legions of retail investors who have long adored Elon Musk's company.

Tesla shares have climbed nearly 320% since early June, helped by the company's better-than-expected financial results and ramped-up production at its new car factory in Shanghai.

Share Your Best Free Resources for Stocks and Shares

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 05:39 AM PST

    Hi,

Can you share you best websites, apps and resources for stocks and shares tracking, news and tips.

For tips and ideas I use Motley Fool and Zacks. (MF Shares Advisor is the only paid service I have access to). For detailed information and charts etc I use Morningstar and and ETFDB.

I am looking for additional resources to help me picks and screen stocks and ETFs. Ideally free.

One thing I would really like, but I am not sure if it exists. An app or website that I can input my portfolios into and it will break it down in sectors, commodity classes, currencies etc etc. I have 4 active accounts which I have shares and ETFs in.

    Thanks in advance.

12% - To Dave Ramsey or not to Dave Ramsey Mutual Funds

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:56 PM PST

    Ok,

So I've been a fan of Dave's show for years now. I finally got to a place where I can invest and I'm super excited. Problem is, I legit cannot find many good mutual funds that fall into his categories and provide YOY 12% return. The few I have found seem to have high fees. Does anyone have any good mutual fund suggestions that actually grab 12% annually? Or even CLOSE to that after fees?

Maybe I'm missing something. Looking forward to seeing what others think

TLDR: I can't find the mutual funds Dave Ramsey preaches about and don't believe after taxes they exist to the extent he says

    ACB buy the dip/crash?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:34 PM PST

It's a hell of a dip, more like a crash. CEO exiting coupled with layoffs and major restructuring. Whether they'll ever be profitable is a serious question. That being said, their stock is dirt cheap and close to their 52 week low. Their 52 week high was 6.1x their current price. That being said many attributed this high price to overvaluation and speculation. Worth betting on this cheap long shot?

CD Projekt Red (CDR:WSE) overpriced or hold?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 11:44 AM PST

The stock has reached its highest ever this week. Do you think the stock is overpriced as it is now? Sell or hold until Cyberpunk, which is probably already valued into the stock price?

How is buying a stock through Options trading different from buying stock individually?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 02:38 PM PST

Hello. I currently have some investments in my brokerage account. All the individual stocks I owned are bought using my savings. For 5 years, that's the only way I know to buy stocks. I save then, buy a stock I want. I just recently found options trading. I watched countless videos about it but I am still confused about why would people want to use it. For me, it's almost the same as using your own money to get stocks.

Will the bank/platform lend me extra cash to get 1 contract (per 100 stocks)? How do I earn money on it - is it a short sell? Is this like day trading?

When do you start enjoying the fruits of your labor?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 01:40 PM PST

So I recently started day trading and I've been semi successful at it. When do you start taking out the money and enjoying it? I always think about how I gotta account for taxes and then still save some of my gains to reinvest again.

Is there a percentage that you take out?

Broke descending triangle on 1h chart. 4h chart closed with bears losing massive ground to the bulls with a hammer candlestick. MACD good on daily, 4h about to signal, 1h green too. Weekly chart still significantly bullish. Bollinger band squeeze on 1h. TSLA second wave coming next week.

Why does nobody like WM anymore? :(

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:29 PM PST

So I first started investing a year ago and everybody loved WM, they all had it in their potfolio. I took a break from investing from September until now and... literally nobody talks about WM anymore. I have a really massive bias towards it because it was my favourite reiable stock. What happened?

SELB: Overvalued or about to pop off?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 11:30 AM PST

Looking for any insight into Selecta Biosciences. Seems like they ended 2019 on a good note and are poised for some solid gains in early 2020, but I'm new to this and not sure if it's just hype or if the signs are real. With it being a biotech company, I'm aware of it's high risk nature, but they just filed a notice of effectiveness with the SEC yesterday, so it may be more than just hype. Anyone have any familiarity with a company in this position and willing to offer insight?

    BX: hold or sell half?

    Posted: 07 Feb 2020 10:18 AM PST

I have held the stock since 2013. It has single handedly recovered my losses from when I started trading during the dot.com bust. It seems to be running out of steam about now and wondering if I should sell half and buy something promising or hold for when the market shits when a radical Democrat takes office?
