My dream is to start a business/company. What do I need to do/learn/study to do so.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:11 PM PST

Hi everyone. I'm not sure if this post will sound ridiculous or not and I'm not sure if I'm even in the right place but I need your advice.

I'm still in high school, going to be graduating next year. My life goal is to become an author. I also want to start my own company that has to do with writing. Like an editing company or something of the sort. I'm still figuring it out & I know I have time but I'm a very passionate person and love planning and just thinking about this stuff ahead because it's exciting.

So my question is what is everything that I should know to start a business? As of right now. What should I be studying. I'm not sure how exactly to word the exact question I'm trying to ask here. I just don't know what I should be learning/expecting.

Where do I start. Like I said, I am still in high school but I want to gain knowledge about this. I want to start learning now. I hope I'm making any sense. Your advice would be appreciated.

Scalable business models besides SaaS and online courses?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 08:41 PM PST

So, I am really bad at thinking of this kind of thing. I'm a conversion copywriter and I'm currently in a beta group for a high level funnel copywriting course. I've got a lot to offer the right businesses and I'm so stoked on it.

Problem is... I can't think of who could really use these. (Partially because I've only had experience with <$100k service based businesses) I mean everyone needs a funnel, but only a fraction are in a place to truly quickly grow. SaaS, health, and finance aren't my thing, and neither is Amy Porterfield... which eliminates a lot of online courses. (Though not all?) what kinds of other business models and/or verticals can handle rapid growth (and also would/could rely on words to sell rather than visuals)?

What's a good postal service to use for UK e-commerce companies?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:23 PM PST

The UK obviously has Royal Mail. But what courier companies are worth partnering with when it comes to cheap deliveries?

Music Magpie apparently use MyHermes, and MyHermes are known to have a dreadful reputation.

    Thanks

Looking for commission advice for one person business

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:45 AM PST

I work full time already in the medical field and I met an art collector who is looking for someone to edit and update his wordpress site for him. I have experience with HTML and CSS which is why I mentioned I could help out, and he said he could pay me hourly but hasn't given a rate and I'm not sure what rate to accept from him / offer him...

I'm also not sure if hourly pay would be appropriate if I'm going to be managing his website long term? He said he wants me to update his art pieces and testimonials and such ever few months. That wouldn't take long to do, which is why I'm wondering about the whole hourly thing...

Does anyone have suggestions on what rate to charge and such? I have never done web design professionally, so I feel very new to this, but I have made my own websites for my own personal purposes.

    Thank you

    Looking for collaboration advice.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:36 AM PST

I'm a small business owner and I have questions to those who have done collabs with other businesses. The reason being is; I recently was featured in a local paper and I have a few people who wante to do a collaboration of products. My questions are as follows:

    1. How did it go?
    2. Did you present the idea or the execution?
    3. Were you compensated or paid in exposure?
    4. Did you ask for fair compensation?
    5. How much is acceptable to ask for, and what determines that amount?
    6. How did you approach the terms of your collaboration with the other company?

I've accepted one collab already. They approached me to give them an idea, I provided. We've moved forward but have yet to talk about compensation. So I'm just looking for some insight as how to handle this. Any advice is appreciated.

I am also interested in approaching others and want to know how to do that as well. Thanks again.

    Sub contractor - electrical

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 06:33 AM PST

I'm 24 years old and have been working for my father, an independent electrician, since I was about 17 years old. He has been self employed since about 1996.

The thing is, he has always done work by word of mouth. Very little promotion up until recently. He has done fine operating this way, knows a lot of people and has some good contacts that would supply us with steady work.

Anyways things have started to dry up. Work is very unsteady and I was thinking we could get our certification of recognition (were in eastern Canada) and start bidding government work.

Anyone who has experience bidding government work and bigger jobs, do you have any advice? Do you need to have a big financial backing to do this sort of thing? We're a small business, just 3 of us that work on the job. How could we go about making this transition?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
